What an experience ! No wonder it's highly rated on Trip - I can't think why people put 3*or less over minor things ? Ordered the platter for two ,omg, it's enormous - there's not portion control here !! The chef even comes out to ask if all is OK and you're happy ! Can't fault the service or the food in any way, shape, or form . If I lived closer, it would be a monthly visit, but sadly, a 41/2hr drive each way says no. But we visit twice a year - and I will be back ! Hope I convinced you to have a try ,you won't be disappointed!!

Food good quality. Please when wiping tables dont just wipe debris onto the floor :(

We were a party of 32 on a Sunday evening after celebrating my daughter’s wedding and we couldn’t have been treated any better on our visit here. All of the food was served hot and delicious with generous portions and tasty homemade tartare sauce. The service was excellent and the newly weds were made to feel very special. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves good food (especially fish and chips) Can’t wait to come again. Thank you 🙂

Friendly staff and nice atmosphere

decided on here after reading reviews and they do gluten free but unfortunately I won't be returning. the young lady that served us was very blunt and not polite, food had been kept warm for too long and the wait for gluten free was an hour.

Absolutely perfect pure white cod, all our meals were lovely, we was made very welcome not like winking willy's on seafront bad attitude, all friendly staff here nothing was too much trouble, place looked clean and tidy too thank you we hope you are open when we visit again from 27th Dec to 30th Dec xxx

Found the reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to see for ourselves. Kindly welcome at the door. The place wasn’t busy, but was noticeably very clean and tidy (even the loo was clean…how nice!). The food was delicious, the cod done to perfection. Of course we had curry sauce and mushy peas too! Unfortunately the senior option we opted for (hoping for a smaller platter) still exceeded our abilities… Lovely place, good service and good food. What more do you want when in Yorkshire?

Visited here as it advertised gluten free fish option and was not disappointed!, very friendly staff fish and chips and fish and mash was gorgeous!! The wife had gluten free fish in batter, with salad and gluten free gravy, shes allergic to a host of things but had no problems at all after eating her meal, will definitely return.

Had lovely lunch in immaculate surroundings. Perfectly cooked fish was best we have had for long time, place was busy but staff were faultless in serving us.

Went along based on recommendations. Wasn’t disappointed. The service was excellent as was the head of house. The head chef came and greeted us and ensured our food was up to standard. It was. I had the fish pie special which was creamy and delicious. Full of fish in eat bite. The chips were cooked to perfection. My wife had the cod. She is an experienced fish frier herself so knows the trade. Her fish was very fresh, meaty and cooked to perfection. The batter was just right. Golden and crispy. Cannot speak highly enough of Martin and his team and the product they serve. To cap it off. We felt it was priced just right and not over the top. We shall return next time we visit Scarbados.

Some of the best gluten free chips etc that we've had. Nice and crispy and good amount. Seemed very knowledgeable too....

5 star experience food was very tasty and high quality and staff were so accommodating and welcoming would highly recommend.

Superb food, great value. The platter for two is unreal. Service was very good and the head chef even pops around the tables to chat to patrons. The lady serving us also gave our Lhasa apso a free sausage and a bowl of water, which he enjoyed immensely - such a welcoming place. Will definitely visit again.

Only went because they do gultenfree only to be told there would be over a hour wait because restaurant was busy it looked empty and we where in the take away side lucky my daughter can troalate chips but still had a 15 minute wait and the takeaway side was empty only us in

Excellent all round! Good sized portions for the price and very tasty. Great view from the window. All gave us a bowl of water for the dog and complimentary sausage for him. Staff were very nice and prompt.

Visited Catch 55 for the first time last Sunday and was impressed with the whole set up good food and run very efficiently, because we visited Scarborough for a second time on Tuesday we decided to use Catch 55 again because of our first visit, oh dear what a mistake can't make my mind up if it was because different Staff were working or the first time was a fluke I think it may have been the latter. On arrival the vibe of the place straight away was different the main problem was the staff were Rude sloppy and slow we sat at the table for a good ten minutes before anyone served us the were congregated near the steps to the upper food preperation level they then took the orders of two other tables who came in after us before anyone bothered with us, when the food did arrive it was average at best. This was a total contrast to Sunday. If I were to use this establishment again it would be a case of having a look what staff was on and if it wasn't the Sunday staff I wouldn't be bothering.

I went here 5 times over a 7 day period whilst on holiday with my mam and autistic son, the staff were brilliant and 1 in particular my son took a liking to I didn’t catch her name and the cook had no objections with my sons requests with his food, it has amazing views looking out over the beach, food is amazing and big portions you definitely get what you pay for it’s a 10 out of 10 from us and we will definitely be back!

This was one of the best fish meals we have ever had. The fish platter for two was totally amazing. Very friendly staff as well. We will definitely go there again next time we are in Scarborough. 10/10 recommend

First rate fish and chips great for allergies. Gluten free all cooked in separate fryer. Large portions. Would highly recommend.

My new favourite Scarborough chippy. Had the large fish and struggled to finish it. Prices are not inflated like most chippy's and can take out or eat in. Would highly recommend

Arrived at the restaurant which was also dog friendly. We were greeted by a waitress we found to be called Jenny who took our orders, even our dog was given a free sausage and a bowl of water making you feel even more welcome. We ordered gluten free fish and chip meals and we were not disappointed. Stand out of this restaurant apart from the food was the amazing staff especially Jenny who was warm and friendly Would we visit the restaurant again 🤔 Definitely on our next visit to Scarborough

We are always on the lookout for good gluten free fish and chips as my husband is a coeliac, and Catch 55 did not disappoint. Really delicious and generously portioned. The service was excellent and we will definitely be returning.

We went there for the weekend last week and Took are Gran kids.The staff couldn’t do enough for us.The food was Amazing.The fish was a very generous size.The price was very fare The manager Martin came over to us and had a chat.CATCH 55 .Give it a try you will definitely go back we will .10/10

This is the only place we could find near Scarborough beach that offered gluten free chips. And they were cooked in a separate kitchen. Lady at counter was super helpful and made sure we walked out with Napkins.

Absolutely sensational fish and chips. By far the best I've had on the East Coast. They have got something special here. Traditional and fried in beef dripping - Absolutely exceptional. Beautiful haddock, amazing chips, mooshy peas, curry and tartare sauce. The only downside the fish was skinless but faultless otherwise.

Lovely food and brilliant service, they might have forgot the gravy but the lady who served the table was greats with the kids and looked after us. I’d definitely recommend this place.

The food was briillant, really tasty and great portions, the young waitresses attitude spoilt the meal a little as we asked for missing items but slamming down the peas on the table wasn't the reply my Wife was thinking of. The chef was extremely polite and helpful when clearing the table, and the head chef was very friendly and polite asking if we had enjoyed the meal. Overall a lovely meal, yes the restaurant was shift staffed but there is no need for attitude towards the customer. A pleasurable experience with a slight blotch.

First time been in Catch 55, after many years of going to Scarborough. Wow, such a lovely place. Greet you as walk in. Being early we had choice of where to seat, so we sat by window overlooking the beach and sea. Waiting staff so kind and friendly. Open kitchen, so get to see your food being cooked. And it was delicious. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommend. Well worth the 5 stars.

Went this afternoon, food fantastic. Service excellent, the ladies were so kind friendly and made us feel so welcome. We are support workers , and visiting with clients. They went out of their way ,to speak to us, and treat us lovely. Said only been open 5 weeks. Just wanted to say well done , everything was terrific. Thank you.😃

Had a lovely meal with our 3 children and dog this evening. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The decor was light and airy, with a view of the harbour. Will definitely be back again soon. 😁😋

We had cod, chips and mushy peas, haddock, chips and curry sauce, 2 pints of Scarborough Fair IPA. Not the cheapest at £43.38 but absolutely delicious and worth the money. We had a window seat overlooking the beach. Totally recommend this place. All cooked to order, the batter, light and crispy and the fish perfect

fabulous plaice lol , food was excellent as I only eat a small amount it wasnt a problem , batter so light and tasty , Martins reputation goes with him , you wont be dissapointed and the restaurant is beautifully decorated and and has beautifully sea views

This is by far the best fish and chip restaurant I have ever been in. From first walking through the door we were warmly welcomed and things got better and better. The table waitress was jolly, chatty, polite and extremely efficient, nothing was a problem and we could adopt the menu to suit or needs. I don't like chips so when asking if I could have a salad as an alternative - no problem at all. Then came the food and WOW . Although we opted for the smaller haddock option it was large to us and cooked to absolute perfection, so so tasty. All throughout the meal staff were interacting with us, even the chef came over for a chat. I did notice that a couple sat near to us had a dog with them and the chef provided it with a sausage in a doggy dish

Just need to state that this fish was perfection!! The best ive ever had in fact. I would eat here everyday if i lived in Scarborough lol. Absolutely fantastic i would definitely recommend.

My friend and I came and got pensioner's special food was beautiful so good we came back and had it again3 days later and it was busier but food was just as good staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble Will definitely recommend and be coming back again

Wow fabulous fish and chips at Catch 55 . I traveled from the South of England to come to this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean and the atmosphere was great. We have a great table with a sea view. And the owner Martin made us very welcome . It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and the prices is very reasonable. Thank you and will visit again

Visited on a very busy Saturday in Scarborough and luckily managed to get a table straight away. The waitress was very friendly and enthusiastic about the food. She assured us that the 6-8oz haddock plus chips was a good sized fish and would be more than enough and she was definitely right. The portion was very generous and was topped off nicely with perfectly made mushy peas, the best I have tasted in a long time. The fish and chips were only £11.99 plus £2 for the peas. Very good value! If you're lucky enough to get a window seat, there are lovely sea views as well. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Scarborough.

Fabulous fish and chips done really well at a fair price. We both had the 6-8oz haddock, which we were informed was medium and was really substantial. The food was cooked to order, the fish lovely, white and flaky with a beautifully crunchy (but not too thick) batter. Friendly staff and nice surroundings, with a beautiful view over the South Bay. What's not to love? Will be back

Average. Food was ok, but there was no salad dressing for the salad which I was informed was ‘just for garnish!’ So don’t put it on my plate, and certainly don’t charge me for it.

Waked in as the place looked good and was greeted by a lady called Mitchell who was very nice, we asked if our food could be cooked in veg oil and she said it could be done . All Food was prepared in veg oil and tasted amazing, the chef came out just to let us know all was getting prepared, the staff take great pride in there job , service/food 10 /10 . No wonder the place is the popular and busy

Recently opened fish and chip shop and restaurant. loved the food in the restaurant that mutch went in twice in same week Highley recommend you won't be disappointed. the staff are very welcoming and polite nothing is too mutch trouble keep up the good work guys and gal's I'll be back

Finding a good place for lunch in a busy seaside town isn't easy,,,,, nearly walked past Catch 55 ,,so glad we didn't,its very rare these day's to find,,,super service great food and good prices,,,and incredible staff, keep it up Catch 55 your spot on,and we will be coming for lunch again thats for sure.x

A famished family of 4 visited this restaurant before going to a gig at the open air theatre. We opted for fish and chips and scampi and chips. Decent sized portions, (mine was the whopper, so was huge!) all washed down with proper Yorkshire tea. The service was excellent and waiting staff very pleasant and friendly. Will definitely go again and well recommended.

Catch 55 was a delightful dining experience, with the highlight being the delicious chicken nuggets. The nuggets were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. Each bite was a burst of flavor that left me wanting more. I highly recommend trying them if you ever find yourself at Catch 55. (My 10 year old daughter's review.)

We got the pleasure to sit right in front of the window that gave us the most beautiful view of the sea. The staff were lovely and helpful, Jo was our waitress and we all liked her! I had a battered sausage and chips which was lovely Jo gave me the option of battered or non battered all I can is it is a really nice place!

We went on day 2, a few tiny teething troubles with our order but the staff were great and doing their very best to put it right, even offering for us not to pay & a free drink as we had to wait. What a find! First time coming here and it has since changed name to ‘Catch 55’ and has been done up to look a lot more modern. Amazing food, hot and fresh! The staff are super friendly and lovely people (especially Mary)! Great view over looking the sea front and overall a really perfect place to eat fish and chip! They are also open everyday until 21:00.

We had a party of 10 struggling to find some where to eat. Walked past restaurant 55 and asked if they do a table for 10. The host was amazing and sorted a table for us. Food was very good. I recommend the cod and chips. Curry sauce was very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal and are host was great fun to talk too. Only been open 3 days, next time we are in Scarborough we will be coming back.

Had fish chips and mushy peas only the regular not the large, and there was plenty to keep us full up for the day. Also had a pot of tea for 2, plenty of tea for us both about 5 cups and strong builder's tea.The restaurant was very clean and well presented and the staff were very helpful and polite. We will definitely visit again when we return to Scarborough.

We been in Scarborough for first time last October and it was nice and sunny day - as all staff in 55 CAFE!!! We been served by very kind guy ( sorry forgot his name). All food traditional but fish was sooooo tasty!! Definitely will visit again!!!

Rubbish food Won't be coming here again!

Been here twice before and was lovely. Went today and absolutely abysmal.I don’t know if the difference was down to what looked like the owner working there (will get to that later)They were busy , but hey it’s lunchtime and not all tables were full so god knows what it would be like if so! The food today was very bland and obviously reheated and time between servings was very slow. What looked like the elderly owner ,he was a nice enough bloke and obviously ‘old school’ (liked to chat) but not in these current climate was it being done correctly. He is exempt from wearing a mask - fair enough - but then literally sitting at the table to take the order,and the process was extremely slow all the time in very close contact with you to the point of awkwardness I think this is what slowed down the whole process and disabled the other staff.If he is the owner- he needs to take a back seat and let his staff work.

Frozen ready chips & poor service

Sadly left as didn’t feel safe. Initially had spare tables either side but then a large party with buggy etc were seated next to us. There was no chance of being 1 metre apart, let alone more. People walking around to get the bill without a mask on. No details taken for track and trace on arrival- which is now law. I realise this may have been taken later, but it should be done on arrival. Menu looked good but unfortunately I don’t feel they have done enough to reduce risk and with the significant increase in transmission indoors, not a risk I’m prepared to take.

We stopped here because I love chowder. Its up a steep hill and we were lucky to happen upon it. We had a window seat. Friendly staff. Covid 19 precautions in place. Clean WC. The chips ordered were very soft and limp hence my marking.

We always make a point of coming to this cafe when in Scarborough because we love the triple cooked chips, they are usually lovely and crispy but they were horrible and soggy ! When I told the waitress she just shrugged her shoulders. The whole meal seems a bit rushed like they were trying to get rid of us, the haddock was actually cod and the cheese and onion squares were cold, won't rush back again.

Good service and covid 19 precautions in place . Haddock and chips was lovely , nice fresh fish , not too much batter , portions size was reasonable, served with bread and real butter for under £7 . My grandson has scampi with salad and chips which he devoured and throughly enjoyed ( under £10) Some tables overlook the beach .

Despite being very busy, the staff were brilliant and kept us informed of how long a wait would be for a table - 15 minutes was all we waited. Being a family of 6 plus high chair, we struggle to find space at many places but nothing was an issue for Cafe 55. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, the children’s meals were a perfect choice and both adult and children’s portions were larger than most places.Left to eat at our own pace and didn’t feel at all rushed by the staff. Would highly recommend and will be back.

We come to Scarborough every year and always visit cafe 55. Myself and my husband always have the chowder and have never been disappointed. I would love the recipe! 🤭. The kids are always happy with their coloring and the food. Winner for me.

Fantastic cafe. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. It’s a bright and clean cafe, beautifully decorated with a good atmosphere. The food and coffee is delicious and very well priced. Defiantly return.
