Mother Hubbard's in Scarborough

As usual, perfect fish chips and mushy peas followed by a steaming pot of tea. The gluten free batter is definitely the best in the county ❤️ highly recommend.

The gluten free fish & chips were the best we have ever tasted! (And the gluten fish & chips were thoroughly enjoyed too!) The GF dishes come with a GF flag on them. Great service.

First time here & great first experience. Fish fresh, batter flakey and crisp, chips fresh and not over done, scraps provided free of charge, premises clean, staff welcoming. Well done, a great chippy restaurant. 👍

I needed the services of the lift to access this establishment close to Scarborough Railway Station so it was an ideal stop prior to my journey back to West Yorkshire. There are a number of dining options, I chose the Senior Citizens 3 course special at £14 and as I don't drink tea or coffee I was allowed a larger glass of fruit juice. The fish and chips were delicious so much so that I wanted more but understandably for the price it was a smaller portion so if I do find myself here again I may treat myself to a larger portion. The third part of my special was the Peach Melba and it was absolutely delicious so it resulted in an extremely enjoyable lunch stop especially as the staff, without exception were efficient and courteous throughout.

Again we were not disapointed at the quality of the food here, well worth the price what you order, and the cosiness of the place is excellent. We would definately recommend here if you have never eaten here before

Always eat here when in Scarborough Lovely staff very helpful and caring when my friend fell ill. Food excellent as usual.

Mother Hubbards is an exceptional fish and chip restaurant. The fish is fresh with lovely crispy batter. The premises are very clean and well cared for. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Should you have the misfortune of being disabled the facilities are well provided for this. The food is excellent and very good value. We have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to all. An absolute must if you’re visiting the town. We will be back soon.

Lovely fish and chips great service and friendly atmosphere

Returned to scarbor for the day.and went to our favorate restaurant.and yet again superb. From entering greeted with a smile staff all smart and happy.so clean.food as I've said before the best frier inthe country.been to many over the years.mother hubbards best by miles please don't change what you do. Lunchtime visit whilst staying in Scarborough for a few days after Xmas. Came after seeing the reviews... It did not disappoint... I had a beautifully cooked cod and chips and my wife had the lunchtime special. Great service and everything was cooked amazing.. I am from Grimsby originally, and so fussy about my fish and chips, but this was amazing! Highly recommended, 👏👏Thank you!

Brilliant food. Service and atmosphere

I’ve been going here for more than 25yrs I am from Scarborough and have always told everyone that it’s the best place in town for fish and chips.now I live in Nottingham and every time I visit my dad we go to have a meal,absolutely love it and well done to all the staff

Nice fish restaurant, best we’ve had in a while, prices and portion was good. Food was cooked perfectly and the haddock was delicious. Waitresses were very at-tentative and helpful. Would definitely return, puts the likes of papas to shame!!

Upstairs restaurant, with a lift or stairs. Although you can book a table, it is possible to walk in as quite spacious. Greeted on your arrival you are given a menu and usually have a choice of booth or chair seating. The menu is very good with different courses or inclusive deals all great quality. Our regular choice is the Senior Citizen Special and is a real treat, choice of starter, thin crispy batter on freshly cooked fish and homemade chips followed by your choice of homemade dessert, tea or coffee, bread and butter. All brought to table by your waitress. We also have a family member that has coeliac disease and he is delighted to be able enjoy Gluten Free Fish and Chips with us and is catered for well, even GF vinegar is available. Can’t wait until our next visit

Lovely food but £17 for a large haddock and chips which wasn’t that large is very excessive. Enjoyed but didn’t feel like it was good value for money. Had the prices been a bit more reasonable I would rate higher

Great senior citizens special, good food, good value

Been coming to Mother Hubbard for the last 12 years, Always get treated like as a friend, With having Celiac Disease it's great to eat out, knowing that you will be taken care of. We have to travel from Derbyshire to have Gluten free scampi,, Having Prostate Cancer as well, its GREAT to go to the gents, CLEAN, but really C L E A N Take the time to find this First class Sea food restaurant if unsure just ring them, for directions.

When I first saw the menu, I had some fears that the place would be a sort of throwback to the 1970s, so reminiscent was it of the sort of choice offered back then. But I needn't have worried: Mother Hubbard's is a hidden gem, with fresh food and professional service in smart surroundings. We had a lovely waitress called Lily who was friendly and well-informed. The food was served quickly and was easily the freshest fish and chips I've ever had. Portions are not so big that you have to leave some, as in some competitors, and the prices are good value.

Whenever we visit Scarborough (every 3 - 4 weeks) we eat here. This place must do the best fish and chips in the country. Food is always fresh and batter is so light and crispy. Service is quick and staff are polite and obliging. Seasonal specials and other foods are on the menu too. We always look forward to our visit here and we can highly recommend this place. We are a family of 4 adults with a wheelchair and there is an efficient lift to the restaurant for us all. If you love your food, we'll probably see you there.

I’ve had lunch at MH with friends and family on a number of occasions. We have between us tried most dishes on the menu and always found the food to be excellent. I must recommend the Lemon Sole, and the Scampi. They are the best I’ve tasted any where I’ve eaten, and I eaten at many venues ( I’m in my 94th year).

Booked a table for a family meal as this was my late grandmas favourite place in Scarborough, the server that took our order was very nice and pleasant however one of the older servers made me feel uncomfortable she asked us if we “wanted anything else” at the end of the meal so we said please could we take a look at the dessert menu, to which she said nothing just looked annoyed walked off without saying anything to get a menu and came back which seemed rather rude but the main issue which has prompted me to write this review - We also have a 1 year old who is very chatty and although she is eating she is not old enough to eat with a knife and fork so unfortunately there was a bit of mess on the floor under her high chair.. which of course I always pick up under before we leave any restaurant. My husband saw the same server looking annoyed and gesturing and pointing to the dropped stuff under the high chair. Staff also just seemed to stand and watch our table until we left This then made me feel uncomfortable, that they just wanted us out of there. - not the family restaurant I thought it was.

Amazing fish n chips. Great quality, not greasy, definitely recommend. In the main shopping area of Scarborough but worth the short walk off the main sea front.

Perfect meal good service top marks.

We love our fish and chips and had the pleasure of visiting many restaurants around the country. Mother Hubbards is now one of our favourites. Delicious food, reasonable prices and good portions, what’s not to like. Wish we could’ve given a tip, felt guilty as we were so pleased with the food and service. Most places you’re able to add it to the credit card machine. Felt a great review would make up for it!

Food is okay as far as a chippy tea goes . Looking a bit rundown. No ice or coffee as machines broken and male toilets not working.

Attended at lunchtime, was busy but we got a table swiftly. Speedy service by pleasant staff. Food was delicious. Was much better than trying to find somewhere for fish and chips and then eating in the rain! Would certainly go back.

Polite, nice entry, and served quickly. I had a challenge to get train in a hour which was fulfilled by keen lovely staff! It's reasonable, the food is excellent chios just as they should be, the fish is fresh as a daisy and the batter is gorgeous, final lap was an old school peach Melba-recommendex Well done ladies, I shall return at a more leisurely pace.

An excellent Fish Restaurant, good menu. We enjoyed the all day medium haddock, chips, bread d butter, pot of tea with a side order of garden peas. You can order wine or beer. There is a dessert menu. Seating is nicely spaced. Staff polite, friendly and professional. There is a lift for the disabled as the restaurant is upstairs, also a stairs lift to the toilet facility on an upper floor.

I had some lovely and tasty Fishcakes on Thursday 11th May at Mother Hubbard's. I would recommend the Fishcakes to anyone. The staff are lovely and friendly.

Made three visits during a fortnights holiday near Pickering. Excellent food on all three occasions. The atmosphere is delightful. What really impressed on all three occasions was the quality of the staff and the way they work together. Excellent teamwork of a very high standard.

Do not be deceived by the naff 1960's building inside lies a fish and chip paradise. Only word of warning is go large at your own risk.

Really good, excellent fish and chips, however...., menu states "and a pot of tea or coffee" for the Lunchtime special, but this was not provided, per Lunchtime Special - a pot of tea and a pot of boiling water provided between 2 of us each ordering the Lunchtime Special with Tea, when description suggests 2 tea pots should have been on the table. Unfortunately this stops me giving 5 stars. If I was on my own and ordered the lunchtime special, would have a pot of tea for one... UPDATE: 2nd visit, as good as the first, and this time had a pot of tea for one ;)
