The Hunters was just a short drive from our holiday home and had been recommended by people staying in an adjacent cottage. You will note that almost all the reviews rave about the Sunday carvery, as did our neighbours. We went mid week and ordered from the main menu. I had a duck and orange pate which consisted of two large pieces of pate and three large pieces of lightly toasted bread. I deliberately left some of the delicious pate to leave room for my main course and dessert which were to follow. My wife had a crispy chilli beef starter. This was delicious and so tender. The portion size we thought was probably a little too much (I know, right !) and was sufficient that had it been paired with a portion of rice would have been enough for a main course, but I digress. For main course my wife had Hake on a bed of tomato and chorizo sauce with new potatoes and she raved about it. I had beef stroganoff which was excellent. The beef was flavoursome and tender but again too much in quantity for me (don’t worry it got doggy bagged up so wasn’t wasted). Dessert was ana Oreo cheesecake type affair for the wife (she loved it) and I had sticky toffee pudding with a caramel sauce and clotted cream. This again probably could have been halved in size and been sufficient but not wanting to let the side down I cleared my plate (it saves on the washing up so it’s like I’m helping out). The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. 3 courses and 3 glasses of wine went about £85’ish. Honest if you’re in the area give the Hunters a try and don’t just limit yourself to the carvery, the main menu has plenty of quality, freshly cooked food. Well done to the kitchen team 👏

Me and my family love this pub. The staff are very friendly They have a huge garden which is great for functions. The food is absolutely amazing, especially the Sunday roast dinners. It's run by a lovely, caring family. They make you very welcome, and they will do anything for you. Definitely recommend this pub

Cracking little real ale and cider pub. Not a drop of bloody inch's in sight, and more the better for it. 12 odd ciders from the barrel and about the same number of beers. 15 mins walk from the city centre but come up the riverside and it's much nicer. A must visit pub in Norwich with a great and knowledgeable landlord &team.

I go to The Olde Peculiar about once a month for a meet up with my brother's for a meal and a pint and it never disappoints. The food is always excellent, generous portions, and great value for money. There are always some 'specials' in addition to the usual menu. The beers and ales are always good and the Olde Peculiar beer is fantastic 😋 Thoroughly recommended.

First time I've been in here even though I've been to the island many a time. We went in for food and a few drinks. Now I wasn't expecting what we got food wise to be honest. " Never judge a book by it's cover" I was blown away with the food. Fresh and so tasty. ( just shame I didn't take pictures) In the few days we were on the island this was far by the best we had! It was fantastic. I am just sorry we didn't go back there again before we left. We will most definitely be going there when we return. The food, staff, atmosphere and the friendly locals should put this place on the map! It was a great evening...and decent music 🎶 . I highly recommend this place. A great pub without all the pretentious thrills. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now, usually riding in from Wigan during the summer. It used to be a decent little stop, but lately, the service has gone downhill—fast. The staff are just plain rude now. I don’t know if it’s because we’re bikers or what, but the attitude is clear. Cold, unwelcoming, and miserable. Today was the last straw. They’ve got some bizarre issue with people eating outside. Unless you specifically say you're eating outside, they don’t tell you you’ll be charged more. I always thought the extra fee applied only to eating inside. I buy my food, sit outside, and suddenly I’m being told—again—that I should have said something. Why? What's the logic? It feels like a trap to squeeze more money out of people who just want to enjoy their lunch in the sun. And the staff today? Absolutely no excuse. The older lady behind the counter was downright nasty to a frail old man who just wanted a cheese pie. She wouldn’t even walk around to help him find it. Just stood there, blank-faced and unbothered. It was honestly hard to watch. The younger woman wasn’t much better—snappy, passive-aggressive, just zero effort in basic customer service. If you don’t like bikers, say it. Put it on the website, slap a sign on the front door. Don’t take our money and then treat us like dirt. This place has lost whatever charm it used to have. I won’t be coming back, and I’ll make sure my mates know not to bother either.

This was our first visit. I reserved a 3hr slot as we were meeting family for Christmas. A family member ordered the pulled pork burger, she is not a fussy eater but what was served looked like dog food. The pulled pork had disintegrated. I tried some and the texture was not nice. Coated in a very large amount of bbq sauce. Not what you expect when you order pulled pork, you expect the nice shredded pieces of pork. This was mush. I raised this with the waitress and they said they can cook a plain one as there is a issue with there pulled pork, but the waitress said she would need to charge me for the new burger. This is the first time I've come across this. If your food is not up to standard and doesn't taste nice is is rude to charge them for something they haven't eaten. I went ahead and got charged with it as it was more important at the time to enjoy our family time and make it memorable than to be arguing with the waitress over extra charges. When the new burger was brought out the burger itself was stone cold, to the point where the cheese slice wasn't even melted so it had clearly been sitting around in the kitchen for a bit before serving it. Which I don't understand why as they were not busy there was only 1 other table dining at that time with 4 people on. My family member decided to eat it but diddnt enjoy it and left most of it. About an hour and a half into our booking the waitress comes to our table and said I've rung your bill up you can pay at the bar. Which made some of my family feel like they wanted us to leave even though I had booked the table for 3hrs. Overall decor is nice. But the food is awful. Dry cold burgers and pulled pork mushy and customer service bad, charging us for a new burger when there food is not up to standard.

Second visit within a few days. Lovely atmosphere in a very welcoming pub, and a large garden with good seating in cabins. But the main reason was to enjoy again the cod and chips which are historic, possibly the best in Cheltenham. There are lots of good, interesting daily specials now. Really enjoyable pub.
