Hunters Inn in North Devon

Most excellent Sunday carvery. Great variety of meats and veggies (vegetarian choices available) excellent service and very clean.

The food was excellent, with generous portion sizes. It would have been a five-star experience, but the service was a bit slow, so I'm giving it only 4 star for that.

Unfortunately we had an upsetting experience,I took two friends and my daughter with her guide dog .we were shown to the pet dog area I explained the law refusing access to guide dogs in areas that the public can go to but with no avail so we left it was my daughters Birthday treat .

Food 2/10 staff 6/10 wait time 0/10 waited at least an hour to serve us starter. Another hour mains arrived finally. No atmosphere. I totally waisted two hours on a normal pub night. Not recommended.

The food served here is excellent and good quality. A lovely place to dine with family & friends. I'd highly recommend a visit, you will not be disappointed.. Friendly staff & owners 😍 Once you go for lunch you'll return, just delicious 😋

Sunday carvery, food was excellent, so was the beer. Dog friendly as well, what's not to like?

Busy pub. Seem to be lots of regulars which is always a good sign. Excellent carvery. Would definitely go back again.

What a lovely find. First time we've stayed here and would definitely return. Would recommend to family and friends. Nicky and John are great hosts. Friendly, approachable, showing an interest in you and your holiday. Knowing the area a fountain of knowledge about places to visit and things to do. Dog friendly - they obviously love dogs here making such a fuss of them. The Hunters Inn is a great country pub with rooms for overnight stays. A breakfast not to be missed served at a time to suit their guests and a fantastic restaurant with a varied menu serving great locally produced food. Compliments to the chef/chefs. All staff were friendly and helpful. Probably the best Sunday Cavery we have ever had. We were made to feel welcomed and nothing was too much trouble.

Hospitality and food excellent. Rooms comfortable, dog friendly Strongly recommend you to stay in the adjacent Hunters Lodge, rooms comfortable with bathroom. Wi Fi available.

Great food and service. My wife is gluten-free and was very happy at the large variety available to her. We will be back .

Had a 5 night stay here August/September, and it was great! Excellent location to stay or just to eat. Fantastic hosts and very friendly staff. Accommodation in adjacent Hunters Lodge is excellent; with large clean modern rooms, and kingsize bed. Included breakfast is the best we have had. Our complimentary Sunday carvery was perfect, and we had an excellent evening meal. We couldn't fault this in any respect, and will be returning soon!

Excellent pub. Fantastic Sunday Carvery and dogs are allowed in as well and they also get a taster Carvery.

We were down on holiday and had a lovely meal on the first night, We came back for breakfast the next day and a carvery on the Sunday. Such lovely staff and the food was great too. Our little dog was made so welcome. Thoroughly recommend :)

Have only had a lunch meal here, so I can not comment on rooms. Very inviting and cosy pub, and it is a little confusing once inside, but great once you work out which way to go. Food is very good indeed with quite a good menu of well cooked and presented meals. Another of the "if you want a desert don't have a starter" pubs as you won't have room for all three courses. Large carpark at side of pub. We would certainly recommend this pub for meals.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Hunters Inn. The room was very comfortable with a lovely en suite shower. The food was excellent - we had breakfasts and dinner and because it was so good we stayed for the carvery on Sunday which was one of the best we’ve had! Everyone was so welcoming - thanks to John and Nicky and all their team. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

£9.70 for a pint of bitter and half a shandy. Draw your own conclusions. We will definitely not go there again when at Heddons Mouth.

I can honestly say that this place serves the best carvery in North Devon. I would highly recommend a visit, but would advise pre-booking to avoid disappointment as they are extremely busy.

Had a table for eight people celebrating my birthday. We had a wonderful meal plus nice wine and of course beautiful puddings. Thank you and we will be back

We spent a couple of nights in their comfortable accommodation. The rooms are well equipped, very clean and welcoming. The en-suite was excellent and toiletries provided. We really enjoyed the breakfast. Traditional English full breakfast freshly cooked to order . The owners are very friendly and obviously take great pride in their business

I have just read a review for The Hunters Inn .Saddens me to read it .We were the hosts of that function.The Staff are always friendly,and the food is outstanding as it always . I would not ever give them a Two Star .Their was no way the vegetables were soggy,My husband and many more had the beef and all said it was tender.Seeing it took four weeks to write the review and as host feel this was not a true insight to everyone else that was their .Please Hunters team keep up your great work .

We went for a social gathering. The carvery was awful. Beef was dried out. Vegetables were all soggy. It was a large gathering and they we were all sat at tables of 4 which was very unsociable. Staff were unfriendly. Certainly wouldn't recommend the carvery and don't need to rush back

Lovely food, nice atmosphere, big portion sizes, lots of gluten free options. The owners have coeliac family members so really have an understanding of gluten free! Would recommend.

Warm friendly welcome. Sunday carvery was excellent quality, with a selection of four different meats to choose from and a large assortment of vegetables. Very good value, we will be visiting again soon.

The service attitude is very good and friendly. The food in the restaurant is of high quality. The room is new and large and very comfortable. The check-in and check-out procedures are simple. The location is slightly remote.

We had Sunday lunch there then came back for a evening meal, the chef made be gravy with no onion and garlic on Sunday then on the evening made me a different sauce, amazing service as so many times when I eat out I'm so limited, will definitely be back when in the area, Thank you so much,

A lovely looking pub but no atmosphere at all. Ordered creamy garlic mushrooms. They were swimming in a mushroom sauce and not much taste. Wasn't impressed with the lasagne and the garlic bread was burnt. My husband's gammon was dry and hard. Altogether not a very impressive meal which wasn't cheap.

Exceptional food, we had Sunday carvery and it was the best we've eaten. Plenty of choice, you can have all meats and trimmings should you wish and not limited - you can serve yourself the roasties, stuffing balls, yorkshire puddings, crackling, and all the veg, gravy and sauces!

Second trip to the area and we went back to the Hunters Inn on a Sunday for the carvery. Very much need to book, and consider how many cars you take as they get very busy - and quite rightly so. The carvery food is excellent. Plentiful meat serving and superb assortment of veg. All the different condiments available too. Nice selection of drinks available too. All reasonably priced making it very good value for money as its worth paying for quality. Service is brilliant too. Friendly, welcoming staff who are happy to help. Lovely to see staff going to the carvery for older customers. Sums them up perfectly. Visit here if you can, make sure you book early!

Second time we have visited The Hunters Inn, both times the service has been really friendly and efficient. A good choice of food which arrived in good time and was very tasty. (We especially enjoyed the creamy garlic mushrooms) If you're in the area well worth a visit. Third visit now, just as good as before, definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Have just had one of the best Sunday Roast carvery ever at the Hunters Inn @ Newton Tracy! Front of house staff were welcoming and hospitable, whilst the 4 joints of meats on offer and the variety of vegetables prepared by the chef and his team was excellent! The managers team of waiters & waitresses were very amicable and delivered again excellent service. I for one will be returning to this wonderful establishment for another meal and drink in the very near future! Well done the Hunters Inn you definitely deserve the 5*s given by me. Keep up the good work!

Amazing food, lovely big garden, friendly staff and nice that it’s dog friendly. Great if you want to walk down to the little beach down the side of the pub, what a hidden gem.

We visited whilst on holiday for Sunday carvery. We booked in advance this was a good idea as it was busy. We were given a great welcome as were our two dogs who enjoyed their welcome treats. The quality of food was fantastic particularly the roast beef the veg was perfect. The team are a credit to the owner all of them were friendly and attentive and clearly work hard but have a smile on their faces which is testimony to their attitude and motivation. Ourselves and the dogs had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend The Hunters Inn to others.

Spent 2 weeks on Devon in May 2023 visited the Hunters Inn every day they were open as.Fabulous staff always cheerful and helpful and Fabulous owner always a pleasure to go there as they never forget you and are always genuinely happy when you return. Food amazing really good choices as I have an eating problem but they always found me a meal I could eat umlike other eating places.Going back in September this year for 3 weeks and we cannot wait. If your down Newton Tracey way and have never visited you should and I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. Counting the days till we return. The Marriotts.

Excellent Pub food, doesn't try to be anything else. Mostly locally sourced produce and delicious. Friendly helpful staff will definitely be back. Update after another outstanding carvery, with more smiles and service that makes you feel almost as if you're at a family home.

Easily accessible from the main road towards Torrington and Bideford. Welcoming service. Totally unhurried. Wasn't too busy on the occasions we went but advisable to book. The food was out of this world. Scampi, gammon and the fish pie were sampled over our 2 visits. All perfect. Not over the top price wise. Worth every penny. Highly recommended.

Had a family meal for Father’s Day which was carvery only, would had preferred another meal of the menu. Was quite busy when arrived for our booking time. Carvery was very nice and plenty of it, staff very pleasant.

Broke down in Newton Tracey, so I had to sit in carpark, the pub was closed as no chefs, so the reception was excellent even had a visit from a black and brown cat who was very affectionate

I've been here a few times now and always make the time to get here for lunch and an evening meal while away for the week on holiday. The food is top-notch and excellent service.

Nice looking pub/inn looks like it's been updated large car park. Very welcoming good atmosphere very clean and tidy we had the medras curry off the specials and the southern fried chicken burger for starters we shared the pulled beef nachos and for afters lemon cheese cake all the portion sizes were good with a great taste and we were full.

We, as a large extended family eat at the carvery regularly, we love it. Such accommodating owners, nothing too much trouble and the food is A☆ well cooked, plenty of meat on your plate in fact l have to stop John piling it on. Nicki, John's wife is sooo friendly and just lovely, Stuart is great too and the whole team can't do enough for you. You know you are getting a wonderful home-cooked roast dinner where you also see so many returning customers. They will even do the slimming world potatoes for me, it doesn't get better than that. You are greeted as friends and always with a bit of banter. Love, love, love you guys and your food is second to none. I can't judge accommodation as l've not stayed on site.

The food here is out of this world. I have been here 3 times. Two times being the carvery on a Sunday. Both times the food was plentiful, hot and cook exactly how u like it and one time for breakfast (available Fridays and Saturdays I believe) the breakfast was the best I've had. The only place to rival this breakfast, that I have tried in the area is the Castle Inn at Landkey (friday only). I think they are as good as eachother.

Had a Sunday Carvery, glad we booked in advance. Very busy, standard and large plates available. My husband chose large and he had to admit defeat. Four types of meat, all excellent quality, plenty of vegetables to choose from. Literally, you can't fault it. Will definitely return.

We called in for lunch this week, hadn't booked. Enjoyed our meal, friendly and efficient service. It looks very well run - attractive and very clean. Beer is good. Fab chips - chips can tell you a lot about how a restaurant is run. Our meals arrived piping hot. We shall return and will book next time!

Refurbished, lacks a bit of atmosphere, maybe due to lack of custom on the evening I was there. Quite modern, friendly staff, food good
