Annemarie and Rob are such friendly host! No effort was too much to create a marvelous experience for us. We walked the Offa’s Dayke Path and had our best sleep and bedfast at the Tafarn y Wean. Beds are very comfy and clean and we had a choice of 3 kinds of breakfast. We choose the scrambled eggs with salmon and also the granola yoghurt and croissant. Both were delicious and kept us on our feet the whole way to Prestatyn

Visited the new restaurant scoops today and was looking forward to a lovely treat. First off the welcome by the gentleman who served us can only be described as he wasn’t bothered about us being there. I ordered a Nutella crepe, on arrival it was placed in a triangle cardboard container. I can only describe it as a thick pancake. I asked the said gentleman if it came with anything as the picture I saw had cream and strawberries. He was quite abrupt in saying well what did you think it came with? And stated they were add ons . The cost of the dessert was £3.79 and on leaving I checked the menu and it should have come with whipped cream. Quite honestly it felt like an inconvenience to him that we were there. I shall not be returning.

So disappointed. Booked in for 1pm Carvery was 12-2. Went with 23 others. Booked well in advance so we'll aware of our party size. Poor choice. Poor communication. Poor customer service. Poor staff qualities very dismissive of needs. Contact the hotel and basically get accused of lying. Offer 25% off a family of 4 as a ""good will"" gesture wanting us to spend £60 in order to get £20 off. I wouldn't send the dog there for lunch.

If you are in the area, just DO NOT THINK OF STOPPING at the Forge. The prices are HIGH and the food is diabolical. The big “turn off” was when I arrived at 13.00 the approx. 80 seater restaurant was empty. Where on earth the chef came from does not contemplate thinking about Do yourself a favour PASS and save yourself a lot of money.

Woman that works there spends more time outside smoking than in the shop working , enough to put you off your grub before you enter the shop

Christmas lunch 2023, £90 per head. Utter disappointment and a truly Fawlty Towers-esque experience. We had to laugh as it was Christmas Day but it was really awful. No one in reception, sign saying go to the bar. No one in the bar, eventually found a passing member of staff and we were directed to where Christmas lunch was happening. Through a door with a large sign saying ‘toilets’ past a kitchen set up and into what I assume is their banqueting space. We managed to catch someone’s eye and rather than being shown to our table we were waved in the general direction and had to please ourselves. After ten minutes of just sitting there I had to get up and ask a nearby waitress to take our drinks order. She seemed a little bit surprised we wanted drinks… Eventually some drinks arrived but it would take four more times asking for some water for the table before it came. Starters came out eventually and were fine. We then thought it would be nice to have some wine…. Me- could we have some wine please? Waitress- ……….. Me- do you have a wine list? Waitress- …..not really a wine list no…… what were you thinking of……. Me- maybe some white wine? Nice and dry? Maybe something from New Zealand? Waitress- erm…. I think we have a Pinot?? I don’t know about wine, I’m the wedding planner….. Me- ok let’s try the Pinot… Screw top of Italian Pinot Grigio plonked on the table and three glasses plonked down upside down….. By this point we really needed the wine! Mains were served, plated turkey dinner. We wait patiently for the dish of veg seen in the middle of all the other tables. It doesn’t arrive. I catch the eye of the waitress and enquire…. In her words ‘hmmm, they have run out of veg and there’s no more. I’m not sure what the plan is….’ No apology, nil, nada. Not five mins later we see veg sailing out to other tablets. At this point not even the wine is enough to soothe and we managed to ask the only sensible member of staff in the place, who magics up some veg asap. I could go on but I won’t. What the experience lacked in terms of service, it make up for in sheer comedy value but was daylight robbery for what we actually had. Hey ho! Update- very kindly the venue read my review and got back to me directly without me having to chase. They kindly refunded the cost of a bottle of wine and £15 per head. To be clear, the food was fine, I think we expected a little more for the price though, maybe a glass of fizz on arrival, coffee and petit fours after the meal etc. Kelly was fab on the day and when replying. The rest of the service was poor as described as above.

Staff friendly but really need some training. Dining room pretty empty despite insistence on pre-booking a table. No atmosphere, poorly laid out and stark lighting. Tables laid with unlit candles and redundant side plates. We'd booked a week in advance online advising of gartlic sensitivity. Staff reacted with surprise and dismay to this, weren't sure they could accomodate it. We explained that it's not an anaphalatic shock allergy, just that including garlic in my food causes an upset stomach which I'd rather avoid, but Maitre D looked really shocked and scared at the news. Not a great start. We were seated on one side of a round table big enough for 6 - 8. We ordered a bottle of white wine which was brought already open, and plonked on the far side of the table in a cooler - both bottle and cooler were at room temperature and we had to stand to reach the bottle - no chance to check it was what we'd ordered, no offer to taste or pour. No bread offered. Husband's deep-fried starter was okay, as was my prawn cocktail (as expected, tasted like it came from a supermarket ready made tub), but served with a chunk of iceberg lettuce (not shredded) and no bread and butter. My main course was pretty good, panfried fillet of bream or bass (can't recall), and husband's burger was also okay - but the string fries were cold and flabby, quite inedible. Unused side plates removed before dessert offered, and I can't remember what the desserts were like, so neither awful nor fabulous. The next evening's meal in the bar was 100% better in every aspect. Maybe there was someone different in the kitchen, and perhaps the bar staff are more experienced than the younger people working in the restaurant.

Called in for some food and a coffee. Very pleasantly surprised. For the size of this café, I was astounded at the range of food and drinks on offer. O K , the prices were a little high, but to be expected in a beautiful beach front setting. Had ham salad sandwich, cheese and onion toastie ,and two coffees, around £21 , but delighted with the size, presentation and Freshness of the ingredients. Have actually read some negative feedback about this place, and found the feedback Totally False, and not my experience at all. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area, probably come back just to see the staff here, they were so pleasant and helpful. Many thanks, Pamela and David.
