Rating this under my cafe list since I separate restaurants, cafes and franchises. I gotta be honest this was pretty solid and a lucky find. It’s one of the few places I could find open on a Sunday in a town I’m not familiar with and everything was cooked perfectly - I decided to go off the beaten track and order something weird and not exactly on the main menu and went with the pancakes, bacon and eggs. The only issue I had was you had to tell them you wanted the eggs and bacon and it’s not made super clear on the menu so I had to order them later and wait for them to arrive (it was definitely worth it though.) Interior is colourful and pleasant enough, it’s cosy and it’s very clearly popular with the locals. But most importantly it’s comfortable and clean. It’s got your traditional cafe meals on there :- breakfasts, coffee, ham and eggs and so on, But the menu was actually quite extensive beyond that with steaks, mixed grills, pork chops and even a build your own roast dinner section. It even included an actual picture of the dishes made in house rather than just using text or some generic online photos which somehow makes the whole menu more appealing. I wish I had taken a picture of the menu but there was a wait for tables and I didn’t think about it until I had left - felt a bit daft going back in but it’s where I’ll be coming next time I end up in Bargoed for any reason.

Go there all the time with friends, family or partner and its the top cafe in Bargoed by a mile! Food is always at least 9/10 and all the staff are super friendly and happy to help!

The food is always very good and excellent value for money. The owner and staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

Staff are welcoming polite had the big breakfast it was lovely and hot toast melted as you eat it very fresh I would recommend this cafe to anyone all meals cooked in front of you

I have visited this cafe many times and love the food and friendly service. However, I ordered takeaway breakfasts today for the first time after a recommendation from a friend and I was so impressed. The food arrived piping hot, the cappuccinos were also piping hot and still frothy. The trays are divide into 2 compartments so that the tomatoes/beans don’t cover your breakfast which is a great idea. The toast was bagged separately which was also great. The delivery driver was super friendly and even closed my front door for me as my hands were full after he gave me the order. I can’t recommend this place enough and now I know about the takeaway service I see a regular new habit!

Had a take away panini last week. Absolutely amazing. Very fresh and lovely side salad with crisps and coleslaw. Staff very friendly

I spent a few days working in this café when my broadband was down at home. The staff were happy to let me occupy a corner for the whole day and use their wifi. They were friendly and welcoming. I got through a variety of drinks and lunches, all of which were very good and decently priced. Portions are good. The omelette is huge! The café is often bustling; there are many regulars, and the atmosphere is laid back and friendly. Will visit again.

Opposite the police station - this is,a cafe with cosy and comfy seating areas. Good range of food at decent prices. Staff were friendly and courteous. I'll definitely be coming back

Booked for 11 of us to have Sunday dinner 1pm. First meal came out at 1.15.....last meal came out at 1.55. Terrible service! The girls working there were lovely and polite and apologetic, but the service ward terrible. We had an upstairs room..... there were no lights on, no cutlery up there, we weren't asked if we wanted any sauces.... never again! Very very disappointed.

I am a regular customer of Fireside, have been for years. I can only comment on the breakfast, because thats all i ever order, mostly for pick but i have sat in on times as well. I am a fan of a good cooked breakfast on the weekends and i have tried places throughout the Rhymney valleys and beyond over the years but i must say Fireside are my favorite bar no one, the breakfast is just exactly what you want! They do offer variations of a breakfast but i always have a large breakfast (2 of everything) sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, beans (can also have tomato) mushrooms and black pudding with home made toast and i am never disappointed. Slight criticism could be that they can take some time to answer the phone on occasions but otherwise they never disappoint, food is always ready for me to pick up within 10 minutes of me calling and they serve breakfast way into the afternoon which is handy when nursing a hangover some times!

Now half the size it used to be, the Fireside Lounge is still one of the friendliest and cosiest cafes in Bargoed. Plenty of choice of food and drinks, and the service is always cheerful and prompt. There is still a great view from the back window, but the ventilation still needs some attention.

Not knowing this area I went into this location and found one of the best cafes in the area. The meal sizes were more than we expected and very nice too. The staff on duty were more than helpful and walked around with smiles so none of this blank expression nonsence one would find in many similar cafes. The layout of the cafe is also very welcoming.

Had lunch here for the first time today, meal was delicious, stake was lovely, tender and juicy. Welcoming friendly people. Will defiantly be back soon. David Price Aberbargoed

Las chicas que trabajan allí son encantadoras, pero es muy claro que no se anima a hablar a los clientes debido a la manifiesta parece recibir fuera de los nuevos propietarios si no dejan de hablar. Más de una vez cuando he estado allí he sido testigo de las chicas que llamaron a los clientes lejos de sus charlas. Forma pobre para ejecutar una cafetería del pueblo que una vez fue un lugar muy popular entre los habitantes locales y conocida por ser muy amable y desenfadado

Great service and delicious breakfast well worth a visit. Also they were more than happy to make my sons individual request of beans and toast and a hash brown.

We did enjoy a bacon and mushroom bap and toasted teacake coffee was a bit milky for me .seating was comfortable a little cold while seated without coat .

Hemos estado en este lugar tres veces es un buen lugar para tomar un café y también para el desayuno.

Mi hija y yo nos detuvimos para comer en el Fireside hoy. ¡Qué relación calidad-precio que ofrece, las comidas son grandes y sabor fabuloso. Tuve salchichas, patatas, guisantes y salsa, mi hija tuvo la cena carne asada, era enorme y no cuesta la tierra.

Lovely place to eat. Lovely friendly people who work there. Very clean. Parking very easy. My mum always used to eat here. They always looked after her and made sure she was safe.

Called in for coffee while shopping.Found the place to be very clean. Good furniture allround ss you had low high tables. Found good service. If you go upstaires you got beautiful views looking down the valley. Prices found to be very good. Recommened a cake coffee.

Visited Sept 2916 my first ever visit . The food was beautiful lovely presentation I had scampi but the added extra salad was beautiful the scampi was cooked to perfection . My daughter had grilled gammon she said it was beautiful and lush coffee ! Definitely returning here !

Went for a spot of brunch on a wet Saturday afternoon. Lovely food a good selection to choose from and good customer service. Would highly recommend.

My sister took me here on a recent trip from Manchester to s Wales. I am so glad she did it was out of this world. Myself and my girlfriend had a large breakfast each and we probably could have shared 1. The quality of this food was amazing considering how cheap it was. We will absolutely be visiting here again next time we are down!!

Stopped here for brekkie and ordered the big one.I was astonished when it arrived - 3 sausages, 3 rashers of bacon, 3 sunny side up eggs, 2 slices of fried bread, a tump of mushrooms, beans and plum tomatoes. Coupled with 3 slices of toast and a milky coffee!

Im a regular visitor to Fireside and have been for a long time now. I agree with other reviews that when the seating arrangements changed it was a bad move, but thankfully that has been rectified and its a nice, comfortable atmosphere again. I have my favourites so usually stick to the breakfasts, toasties and omelettes which i always enjoy....especially the toasties! It did hit a bit of a slump at one point last year but its back to its old self now. Very nice coffee every time and the staff are always friendly. A nice touch too is everything on the menu is available to take away, which also comes with a small discount :)

Regular visitor to the Fireside since it returned back to its 'casual' look with sofas etc . The school canteen look just didn't work !!All day breakfast is a good one especially the veggie brekkie. Like the coffee too!Ambience is good alsoJust one suggestion, perhaps another sofa or two at the far end to overlook the valley might be worth a trial run.Staff are pretty good tooA happy customer nonetheless !

ive used this cafe for breakfast many times in the past always been over priced butgood food and good service so i didnt mind but in the lst 6 months or so this place has gone down hill fast terrible food and terrible service save your money and go else where much better places in the area to eat

Well I thought the BAD REVIEWS were a mith, so my wife and I went there for a breakfast. We went on 10/10/15. We sat upstairs. I couldn't believe my eyes when I got there. It looked like a junk shop.Eventually when the waitress brought our food put the tin hat on it.There were a few watery beans, a few tin tomatoes., one egg, a few mushrooms, 1 sausage, 1 scabby piece of bacon and a piece of toast. I had to ask again for my tea which came in a large two toned cup and a white sauser.Like i read in one of the reviews "the tables and chairs must have came from a boot sale"Well I think they were right. The food i would give it a 2, The service a 3 and the cleanliness a BIG FAT 0.You have to go there to experience it BUT don't have any food there. Go upstairs and have a look

Went to the fireside coffee lounge as I'd heard great things about, well here's what happened on my visit. Waited ages for two baguettes to be done (tuna mayo & chicken mayo). Tuna mayonnaise baguette was dry and tuna was warm. Chicken mayonnaise tasted of vinegar, all I can say was good about this visit was the two cans of pop we had

Well we decided to visit this coffee shop after a pleasant visit approx 18 months previously.Well all I can say is " what's happened!!"Since our last visit the cafe on a positive note appears cleaner! And we did not leave with that fatty/ greasy smell from poor venting of cooking smells. However, was not impressed breakfast was over cooked and toast cold! My daughter ordered pancakes and they were just barely cooked!We will not be returning, much better cafés in the local area.

Visited here with Mum as she recommended it. When our lunch arrived, I was super pleased as the portions were pretty big. The guy next to us ordered the omelette/beans and toast combo which was huge! Mum and were taking bets to see if he would finish it! Our lunch was delicious and the staff were friendly. Nice to see a lovely cafe in Bargoed. Sit by the window as the views are stunning.

Surprised to read some of the negative comments here, BUT, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Every time I have been here, the staff have been excellent, the food has been wonderful, always really clean. Cant fault the place

If you would like an excellent all day breakfast, then look no further! A variety of options, and our son ate free as there were two paying adults! You need to order at the counter. Staff are friendly and helpful. Service is very quick. Excellent views over the ever changing Rhymney Valley to look at when waiting. Have visited several times (they do lunch and evening meals too-all home cooked). Always good!

Orderd take out not only did they get order wrong but sausages well over cooked that they was crispy and roll tasted staleWill not revisit

Visited a few times for breakfast but if late the standards have dropped, food quality has gone downhill.It's quality and edible food people want but on my last visit thus was not the case.Will call back ASAP and hopefully things will improve.

Popped in with my children late afternoon for a quick bite to eat. Nice surprise to find one of the childrens' meals were free for each adult meal purchased. I had fish, garden peas and chips. The chips were mostly inedible as they were so over fried and crispy the potato inside had vanished. The fish was very nice. Both my children left mashed potato on their meals. I tasted it and i thought it was nice but i'm sure there was black pepper in there which maybe isn't a good idea for children. Again, the fish fingers were slightly over cooked. A few niggles too. My pot of tea was forgotten and I had to ask. One of the child meals was brought out over 5 minutes before the rest so she was eating on her own. The card machine was out of order. I have to say though, the service is always very good and whenever i have had food from the breakfast menu it has been delicious so as the title says, i was disappointed today.

Been for lunch a couple of times and haven't been disappointed. Very unassuming and unpretentious and prices to match.Great cosy place to drop into while out and about shopping and no doubt we'll be back.Perhaps the best development lately has been the delivery option for Sunday breakfast or dinner.

I regularly go to the Fireside & have been many times for breakfast. This standard breakfast wasn't the best as it was lukewarm. It didn't feel as if it had just been cooked, it was as if it had been cooked for a while & was waiting to be served. The cafe was quiet so it wasn't due to being busy. I've had better breakfasts there.

Fantastic lunch, generous portions & well priced. Served really quickly & not a long wait for food. Lovely & clean restaurant & a fab atmosphere there. Definitely recommend to people

Having not been a regular vistor to Bargoed I was surprised to find this lovely coffee shop and bar, in such a run down little town. Food was lovely and the coffee. would highly recommend a visit.

Called in here after dropping my dog off for his grooming session. I ordered a coffee and panini. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the food was excellent - their coleslaw so good, and the prices were really reasonable. I'd certainly eat here again. BTW the coffee was fabulous too.

Who ever says this place is nice is crazy.... had to move in the room next door because of the smoke coming from the kitchen. The oven chips which are fried the fish which oozes fat I was literally sick after leaving. The best thing about this place was leaving there. I wouldn't go back there even if I left my wallet there.

This is by far the nicest food in Bargoed, i love the cooked breakfasts, like the venue.i would have given a 5* however, i ordered a take away carvery dinner, and didnt think it was good value for money, didnt enjoy it, and it reminded me of school dinners.

After hearing a few friends ranting and raving about how fantastic the Fireside Sunday Carvery delivery was, my partner and myself decided to give it a whirl. I really wish we hadn't. mashed potato that tasted exactly like Smash.. yuck! All most all the vegetables tasted frozen, not fresh. Frozen Yorkshire puds and frozen roasties which in my opinion is the absolute worst. All cold on arrival! Top with absolutely tasteless gravy. Needless to say after tasting, mine went straight into the bin. I think that Fireside are going for 'quantity' rather than quality. And considering the money we spent I'd expect the quality to be there! Very disappointing,will definitely not be ordering again.

When I arrive with my partner to eat breakfast we ordered two breakfast rolls and coffee.When we sat down to eat not only was our table very wonky but my partner noticed that there was a smashed plate that was just there under the table that nobody had cleaned away.The food was delicious! But the service from the waitress was also poor. Its a shame really, Id suggest they need some better staff.

My husband, daughter n I went for a cooked breakfast for a Saturday treat. The waitress weren't very good to start with. But thought I would give her a chance. My hubby n daughter's food arrived, she didn't say if mine was on the way.....because it weren't! I asked where was it, to the reply of ok. But they had both finished their meals and mine was nowhere to be seen. I had enough by this time and asked for a refund because I had lost my appetite by them. Will not be rushing to go there again!

Went to the Fireside with colleagues from work at a lunchtime, normally we've always had good food when either visiting or ordering takeaway but this time it was deeply disappointing 3 colleagues had to send their breakfasts back as they were cold I had a mixed grill whilst the portions were great the meat was cold although I did eat mine. Speaking to colleagues who've never been there before afterwards they were surprised we'd recommended it. I'm not sure what's gone wrong but I've eaten there on numerous occasions and it's been full all the time this time it was only half full and this was at what many would consider a peak lunchtime. Sorry for the bad review but things aren't as good as they were.

Fireside is the best place for a cooked breakfast, I've been there many times never been disappointed. Their other meals are great too. Good value, plenty of food for your money. Arrived quickly, and friendly service. Best cafe in the local area.

Love this cafe! Always a warm welcoming environment, have been going here since it opened to find new add ons or new services each month. Can't wait for winter to arrive to snuggle up with Hot Chocolate. The Best!

My wife and I have just had a carvery takeaway from here, even though they were more than happy to deliver to Blackwood area! Plenty of meat, pots, veg etc and we all really enjoyed. If I had one criticism it was the gravy. Although the gravy was very nice, it was quite thin and slightly bland, put thats just my opinion on it, I am fussy with gravy and love thicker beef gravy. Would def eat here again and recommend to all. Good dinner for three and no pots and pans to wash. Result :-)

Just returned home form a very pleasureable evening meal @ the fireside, this was the opening night here and I must say the staff did an excellent job, my meal was probably one of the best I have ever tasted!!! My compliments to the chef ! Myself and all the family really enjoyed our meals, drinks and atmosphere etc, this is by far one of the best tasting and best value meals I have ever had, any one looking for somewhere to go please do not rule this place out as it has a new outstanding menu with something to please everyone's taste buds, overall rating 12/10 !!

I'm a regular here and never had a bad meal, the food is home made with ample portions, friendly staff and quick service, I've never heard anyone says bad word about the place-keep up the good work!

I have been coming to this cafe since it opened and have always praised it. Many of the original staff members are still here who are very nice and always friendly however for the past 10-12 months there seems to have been an influx of new staff many who are young or adolescent and quite frankly since this time my estimations of this place have gone rapidly downhill. The customer service is awful, hygeine (LOL) and speed of service is slower than snails pace. I have often received drinks 10 minutes after we have received our hot meals. On two occasions I have ordered a delivery sunday dinner which has on both occasions arrived extremely late, cold and on one occasion only enough to feed a small child.I cannot warrant spending my hard earned money in such a badly run establishment anymore which is such a shame as I previously rated this place and it's staff so highly.I would advise anybody to AVOID!!!

By far the best cafe in the area! We live a few miles away, but we always travel up to have either a sit down meal or a take away! We have even attended a Sunday carvery! They are great with both my boys and always willing to help!

I call in here regularly for my latte which is always excellent. I love the cheese on toast for breakfast as I find the breakfast too big for me. I call in often for lunch and even though the girls may be busy they are always friendly and helpful. They never fail to ask after my parents who are elderly and my brother who lives in New Zealand. I find them hardworking,genuine people whomare trying hard to make a great business be even better by trying different things. Everybody has blips but the regular excellent service should outweigh this a thousand times. Well done, John, Steve and the girls

I am a regular customer at fireside, I think the food is amazing, and never have to wait long for your food. The staff are really friendly. The coffee lounge it self gives out a nice warm friendly welcome. I would recommend this place to anyone.

When this place first opened the standards where very high, but over time have come down now its hit n miss, even down to the hot chocolate, which is around 3 quid a cup, u may get a good one or u u may not. Delivery carvery on sundays you wait about two hours for it to turn up, the container half full and what is in there is stone cold and taistless. If you complain you have to phone back another day to speak to the owner. On returning a cup of chocolate as it just taistes of hot water n milk, they juwt say they dont know why. No refund or replacment. Being a regular customer I think the customer service stinks as you just get fobbed off, n the carvery on a sunday is a complete waist of time effort and money. Would rather go to the pub over the road.

very cosy modern cafe popped in for breakfast on friends recommendation. loved it!ate the eggs on toast and hubby had a lovely breakfast roll. lady offered us free coffee refills.

This was our second visit, the first involved two different meals from the menu which we found acceptable but nothing special. Our Sunday Carvery was better, but the premises themselves lack that quality feel that they may have been striving for.So, the food: the much acclaimed new chef, Julie, knows her stuff all right. A choice of three roast meats (or mix and match like my wife) and plenty of good veggies too. What a shame the plates themselves were stone cold, because by the time we had got to our seats the gravy was rather tepid, and the meal went from nice and hot to only just acceptably warm by the end.There were some problems at front-of-house: the till developed a glitch, and the card machine had to wait until someone using the telephone had finished their call: that's not professional, guys.The staff were just as smart, friendly and efficient as before, and boy do they work hard!Our biggest criticism is the almost total lack of ventilation. The lovely views from the large picture windows at the back soon misted over, as did my specs. Downstairs where the loos are there was a lingering smell from the all-day breakfast fry-ups, and it followed you up the stairs. This really needs some work.The toilets were clean and adequate (no hand towel or hand dryer in the one I used).A good family-friendly place with no claim to be a gourmet paradise, but maybe not somewhere you would want to take your friends for an occasion.

We popped in for breakfast on Sunday, a last minute decision. So glad we did. We eat out regularly in many different places from a truckers greasy spoon to 4 star hotels. This was up there with the best. There are cheaper breakfasts out there but here you get huge portions AND quality. The service was fast. Coffee served within a minute and breakfast served within 5 mins. The café was busy too. Both the coffee and the breakfast were delicious and we will most definitely return.

I visit often and enjoy spectacular views over the valley and the reasonably priced diverse menu. Personal favourites include the molten, gooey cheese and potato pie and hot chocolate not to mention the amazingly good value all day breakfasts. Pop in and enjoy!

Please take my word for it and avoid this place like the plague!!!! I visited this place on a few occasions and was completely disappointed every time, the chips were advertised as home made but when they eventually turned up by a very miserable ignorant dirty looking member of staff they were actually cold and still frozen. In the middle, the corn beef pie tasted like sour leftovers also frozen and you could stand your spoon up in the thick burnt tasting gravy!!! My wife had a breakfast and I must admit the toast was amazing but as for the rest it all tasted like it had been deep fried in 1 pan!! The decor is a cruel attempt of a modern establishment with all mismatched chairs you would buy from a boot sale. When i asked to speak to the manager i was told he was not on the premises, i have called in on many occasions since to express my concerns but never actually managed to locate them!! If any 1 has any ideas on going to this place please don't bother wasting your money.

visited on sunday for a meal with the family standard of food was very good servis was good price was ok we intend to use this place again.

I had popped into this cafe for a midweek lunch and, although it was cold inside, the food was ok and coffee of a good standard.So we decided to return for the Sunday Carvery when it was busier - what a dreadful experience! I ended up taking my meal back because all of it tasted (but didn't look) burnt. In fact all of the meals tasted the same, but my companions were more hungry than I was! We reckoned it may have been burnt gravy, but couldn't work it out.Even without the burnt taste, the food is cheap and nasty and there was no alternative to the carvery.Service is mediocre in the whole - there were some helpful and friendly young women behind the counter, where you pay before you have your food - but you are expected to know, without being told, that you have to hunt down your own cutlery.On the Sunday visit, we had booked a table and were allocated a cramped table in a very cold and cheerless room next to the main part of the cafe, having first been offered a row of seats at a counter by a completely steamed-up window (unsuitable for a family lunch).Never again!

Before popping in for I just expected another 'greasy spoon' type cafe.. but was pleasently surprised by this place. It's really smart and modern inside with plenty of different style seating. It's very clean & is definately falls into the smart cafe catagory, rather than greasy spoon. They do a briliant cooked breakfast, which keeps you going until t-time! They also do cooked lunches including a carvery on Sunday, which I haven't tried but will definately give a go soon. A hidden gem amonst not so pleasant Bargoed town centre surroundings.
