The Moat House Hotel in Caerphilly

Superb Sunday Lunch. Good choice of meats, with veggie, vegan choices too. Good sized portions of perfectly cooked Turkey and vegetables, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings and Cranberry sauce. Tasty and satisfying meal. All for £9.99 each. Jason and Lianne are friendly and welcoming and the pub had a nice Family and Community feel. Will definitely go again for Lunch.

Went to The Moat for Lunch with my Children and Grandchildren recently. The Service was excellent from the extremely courteous staff. The food was served very quickly and was up to the usual very high standard with all of us really enjoying our meals, even my young Grandchildren finishing their meals. I would recommend The Moat to anyone and we are all looking forward to our next visit.

A group of my old school mates were looking for a venue for a meet up, and food. One booking in town had dropped through and I suggested to meet and eat in the Moat House. All were familiar with the pub but were wary because of they had heard things about the pub from 3-4 years ago. I reassured them that the pub was very different these days having been turned around and improved greatly as I am a regular and have posted the same on here before. The pub is now a great venue for all, including families, with many old faces returning and new faces appearing to enjoy the well kept ales, beers and food. I have read a recent post with some surprise as this is certainly not my experience of the pub in recent times. All my friends enjoyed their time at the pub and very much enjoyed the food served for them. The atmosphere is friendly and warm. The staff do what they can to help your visit go smoothly and if there is a problem will do what they can to resolve any issue they are made aware of. Needless to say the all enjoyed the visit and many have returned to the pub since following their experience.

We are regular visitors to the Moat. Always receive a warm welcome. We had food tonight which was lovely. We had steaks , mixed grill and everything was well cooked and delicious. Thanks to Jay, Leanne and staff for great service. 😊

Waited 2 hours for food. When the food arrived it was of a very poor quality. My mixed grill consisted of ‘ bits ‘ of very small meat. I didn’t even try the chicken breast as it was bone dry just to look at , and the steak was smaller than the size of a standard frozen burger. The sausages actually tasted ok and weren’t dry. Overall the quality and service was non existent! Looks like they’ll just take your food order despite having a pub full of people. It was just chaos in there. My partner ordered her steak to be cooked Medium , but again was way over cooked and non edible. This pub could do so well under the right team / management but it’s being run by people who unfortunately haven’t got the first idea of how to run a food order/ hospitality establishment. Easy pub food menu = delivered very poorly.

I went to the Moat House over the weekend just for drinks with friends. The atmosphere in the pub was excellent and the staff were amazing. I was so happy to see that sky and tnt sports is back in the pub as this has been missed over the years. From experience I can only highly recommend the most house to anyone. It is a great local pub. The food is always amazing too. The pub is a credit to how it’s run by the management and by the team of staff they have. I for on will be going back in the near future and do recommend it to all my friends and family

Absolutely beautiful food, everything was cooked beautifully & the chef/owner refunded the price of my whole meal as he said there was only half a portion left of my chilli (which was huge) what a fantastic experience, definitely coming back.

Booked a meal for 13 people a few more came, staff weren't phased , excellent service, great food and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended we will be back

Great local with no frills and good value food. Try it…. Clean, tidy and well run if you’re looking for a good meal on the basic side but well prepared and in good friendly surroundings this is a fine place - Nothing fancy but still good value.

Today was the second time that we had lunch at the Moat House. Both times the staff were polite and helpful. Today, my wife had the gammon. Her preference with meat is for it to well cooked. Also, with her being blind, she needed the gammon to be cut up as this makes it easier for her to manage. No problem. The gammon was cooked to her liking and cut up as requested. I had the rump steak. Again cooked as requested. Both the meals were piping hot. In addition, they offer a good range of drinks including cask ale, which is served at the right temperature and appears to be well kept. I had Directors, which is a very nice bitter.

Great little pub , held the wake for my grandfathers funeral here , staff were spot on , food the produced for the wake was fantastic. Would recommend for a meal , a drink or indeed a wake.

My experience was amazing! We had our Christmas get together here and the staff were fantastic and the food was delicious.

The new owners have really turned this place around compared to the previous management. The cask ale choice is perfect and always available, Marston’s menu is really comprehensive but the extra touches are what make the difference. The home made batter using Marston’s Pedigree is brilliant. We visit every week and haven’t had a single bad experience. Would recommend to anyone looking for a really good value for money foodie pub. Biggest problem is deciding what to eat each week! Would give 10 stars if I could.

This pub is a lovely family pub great atmosphere lovely very attentive staff whom go above and beyond to make your experience there a great one .Food is amazing great value for money and always to a high standard . plenty of parking and a garden area for those warmer days .

Visited last night. Have to say, the food was outstanding. Reserved a table for 4, met up with friends, a nice Christmassy vibe going on. Service: Despite a busy bar, was promptly served. Like the fact they politely inform customers that haven't booked if there is going to be a slight delay on food delivery given the number of largee bookings they catering for. That's good service. Lets people make an informed choice for themselves. Was asked how our food was. During and after meal. Don't be shy speaking up there and then, they would prefer to rectify something if its not quite right. They would rather have happy customers after all. Why wouldn't they?! Food: I went for the Mixed grill, large plate of perfectly cooked food. Tasty and lots of it. Steak cooked exactly how I like it, sausages awesome. Egg not overdone. Friends had the Spicy Burger. He said he loved it and would go for it again, had just the right kick to it he said. Wife had sausage and mash and her friend has steak and ale pie and both enjoyed with a good quantity of steak in the pie. Clean plates all round which is why we tipped. We never usually tip in a pub but felt everything was pretty much perfect. Will definitely continue coming here. Thanks to Jay, Leanne and staff for great food and service.

Visited the Moat House after the Christmas Fair in Caerphilly on the off chance of having some food. While the restaurant was busy & there was a small wait as a result the food was amazing and all cooked just as we requested. The staff were very polite & professional. As a result we ended up staying after food for a few drinks as well. I'd heard good things about the food here & can now say I've experienced it myself. Not on person from our group had any complaints. I can recommend popping in for food to anyone that's in the area. I'd highly recommend the steak, although the burgers looked amazing too!! Thanks to all the staff for a warm welcome & a good experience. We truly enjoyed our evening

Was shown to our table and advised of where to place our order which was very patiently taken as there were a few changes to the set menu required especially for mine as I’ve lost over 4 stone and didn’t want to sabotage my diet. Food for everyone came relatively quickly and no one was disappointed, all plates were emptied and we were asked if everything was okay and did anyone need anything a few times. Our table was cleared promptly giving us a clear space to relax and talk. Tonight we were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary for which we traveled 15 miles to be with family. We’ll definitely be back there for other family occasions.

I visit The Moat 3 or 4 times a week because the food is always excellent with extremely good service. The quality of the food is great for the price. All the staff are very welcoming. Whenever we have a family night out my daughter always says let's go to the Moat. Would recommend The Moat to anyone.

Absolutely terrible the only best thing on the plate was the CHIPS . Kids food was over cooked My bargette was frozen and defrosted in a microwave ends hard poor for what ww paid

Don't things change called in today 22/11/23 for a quick bite to eat think its under new management but the only best thing on the plate was the chips had a chicken bargette that must have been frozen taken out and defrosted in a microwave the bargette was hard on the ends. It was not the best the chicken nuggets where over cooked baby didn't eat them no music no tv absolutely dead. Never again. there last Friday not been here for a very long time it was a quick stop pint. Ended up having a meal top marks for a very delicious meal. Keep up the good food will be back very soon.

17 of us went here for the Festive Menu.. The Staff were amazing & went above & beyond to ensure we had a fantastic evening. They work very hard. The food was delicious & definitely value for money. Lovely atmosphere We will be returning!

Called in to the pub having returned from working away. I was on my own and am only too aware of the kind of treatment a “table for one” request can you as I travel for work. Not here the pub was clean and the bar staff welcoming and happy to engage in conversation and we're always courteous and polite. There is a good range of drinks that as well priced but most importantly well kept. The menu appeared to have something for everyone and there were some good weekday deals advertised. I chose one of these, a burger and pint for a set price. The food was prepared in good time, was well presented and most of all very tasty. The staff checked to ensure all was okay. A nice, friendly, local pub. Not in the town centre and the better for it. I have been back and will continue to do so.

When in initially for drinks but ended up staying for food which was absolutely amazing. Can't fault the new friendly management and all the staff were great too.

When asked about Sunday roast the answer was no. But I booked three weeks in advance so they said they would see what can be done. Great success they provided Sunday roast for 22 people. Made my mother and her twin brothers 75th special. Only disappointment was no sky/bt sports so we had to go elsewhere to finish the day off. But well done for the above and beyond service with the food, not a complaint from anyone, which is surprising knowing my family lol.

We have become occasional visitors since covid. Great Menu with traditional pub favourites, typical of a Marstons pub and nice choice of beers. Prices are reasonable and staff are always friendly and helpful and the food nicely cooked and presented.

A nice place to eat and easy access off a main road

We had a fab afternoon Saturday for my dad 85th birthday. There were 16 of us in total. Nothing was too much trouble. All meals were good and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks Jay, Leanne and staff 🥰

We go to the moat every other wednesday for a treat and always enjoyed it but tonight our meal was spoilt with the mix up on the order my husband had to eat alone while they cooked mine by then he finished his cause he felt uncomfortable and wasnt enjoying so he left half. I couldnt enjoy mine when it came so left half. Bar staff never even asked how meal was there was no interaction very dissappointed. Will be giving mastons a miss and try other venues in the area.

Absolutely disgusting service !!! Rude ignorant staff who were not only not at all helpful but downright rude 😡 had a large family get together (14 people) which we were hoping to tag on to but the kitchen was only serving food for that party, basically the kitchen couldn't cope with any more than 14 covers !!!! When asked about this staff were no help at all. Despite this we stayed to spend time with family and were made to feel nothing less than unwelcome !!!! Would not advise ANYBODY to get there 😡 disgusting service and attitude....

A great place for food and catch up with friends

I have been served couple of weeks ago with a burger and paid for a pint. I was eating and wondered where is the pint? I asked the bartender and he said I chucked away cause I was taking too long to long..,I try enjoy my chips. I asked why you didn't bring it to me? He went that's not what we doing here.... In other pubs like green lady Caerphilly is normal to bring to your table
