If you are in the area, just DO NOT THINK OF STOPPING at the Forge. The prices are HIGH and the food is diabolical. The big “turn off” was when I arrived at 13.00 the approx. 80 seater restaurant was empty. Where on earth the chef came from does not contemplate thinking about Do yourself a favour PASS and save yourself a lot of money.

stayed in one of the cottages sea view,on arrival the cottage was spotlessly clean, soon noticed there was no shower over the bath as advertised and the toilet seat was broken plus the water wouldnt go down the sink as the plug was jammed,we reported this straight away but the problem was never done meaning we all had to manage in en ensuite. The garden was shared not private like they advertised. The motel was closed one day for cleaning and the one evening we were phoning them they were shut.We had a meal to celebrate a birthday,we booked it but when we got there we were told they hadnt looked at the booking in book. They had run out of steak and chicken. The meal was boring but expensive. All in all a dissapointing stay.

Lovley breakfast, the most important part for me is a decent cup of tea to go with it and this has never failed in years of visiting the Forge, we will always call it that. Enjoyed breakfast, great service and the best cuppa with ample tea bags in the pot and extra hot water...brilliant 🔥 10/10 Trying to organise a big family breakfast before Christmas now 😋

Having heard a mixed review on the forge since changing hands we thought we would give it a try....we have been calling at the forge on the way home for years and like the simplicity of the food just like home cooked without all the fancy nonsense. It was as good as ever and the puddings were even better and well presented....so well done we will be back. For anyone doubting the place...please go back and give it a well deserved chance....happy we did !!

Very dissappointed..... lager tasted like it had been in pipe for a week...luckily my partner went for a bottle!!! Service was okay but not overly professional.... food...where do I start...fish definately not fresh (based by the sea!!!) Chips looked liked they been delivered by local chippie!!! Partner had burger and the extra cheese would be indescribable as cheese.. garlic pots, basically boiled spuds in garlic what I can only call as a floury gloopy sauce!!! The only upside...they were garlicy!!! So disappointed!!! Will not be returning!!!

Was a little disheartened that the burger ordered consisted of a meat patty & 2 parts of a sliced bun. Some extras to it would nice. (Tomato, beetroot, pickle, cheese - just an idea). My fellow diners loved their scampi and the choice of extras when asked. Overall it’s got friendly service, the place is a bit ‘out of the 80’s Would I visit again, yeah, but I’d give the burger a miss next time.

Having decided that we were too lazy to cook, we decided to eat out in one of the local restaurants. Having had disgusting food in the nearby Savoy in a number of occasions the easy option was the Forge! Although it is like stepping back in time with regards to the decor of dark wood furniture I must say that the service and food were amazing. Staff are all local people so you can be assured of great Welsh service. The food arrived speedily following our order and I was stunned by the 4 thick cut lamb chops which arrived, all perfectly cooked with home made chips and a garnish of peas. Partner had the gammon which was huge. We returned again this week and sampled more from the menu and certainly were not disappointed. Will definitely be making this our go to place when we can’t be bothered to cook.

Ate here 2 nights on the trot and certainly didn't leave hungry !Starters were a good size and the mains were huge. Ordered half a duck and I thought they had brought me half a swan - it was so big it hung over both sides of the plate ! Nicely cooked and very tasty but could have done with a little more veg or garnish. I ordered it with a baked spud and all it came with was a few peas.Same story the next night, pork chop this time. Plenty of it and again cooked nicely but only a few peas to accompany it. A bit of a mixed selection would have been great.Good food and plenty of it - no major issues with the food.Served a nice Welsh real ale but it was kept in a fridge behind the bar, spoilt it a little because it was too cold. Real ale should be cellar temperature, cool yes but definitely not refridgerated.Breakfast was also good with a full choice including juices, fresh grapefruit, cereals, toast and a full cooked to order brekky. We visited The Forge twice, while staying a short way outside St Clears, only finding it as we passed by to visit Anna's Zoo. What a find too, we decided to stop there on our return that afternoon, after spotting an advert by the road for the Sunday lunches.Very glad we did too.I am a wheelchair user, so can be an awkward issue. Not at The Forge, practically every table was accessible to me, With a few tables already set up to take wheelchairs. Which was something I had never seen before in any Gastro Pub.The first visit, I had the Plaice, which was amazing, very moist, beautifully bread crumbed but without it being too much. Chips were crisp and fluffy. My companion had the chilli, which smelt divine. and tasted that way too, according to her. After eating the fish and just a couple of chips, my worst nightmare came to pass, I have Chron's disease, you see and just at the wrong time, it came on with a vengeance.I went very pale, was huffing and puffing, trying to gain control of on coming pain and issues, sweat pouring from every pore. The staff were brilliant, instead of panic, one staff member asked if I needed help of any kind and then kindly left me to get on with it, while keeping a close eye on my companion, as she dealt with the situation. On second visit, i was in a much better condition and went straight for the Sunday Roast, as did my companion. I had the beef, Cherry had Lamb. We ordered extra roast potatoes and mini sausages in bacon.(pigs in blankets) along with Sticky Toffee pudding to take advantage of the 2 courses for £9.This time I was not the only wheelchair user present, and several other walking wounded disabilities, and I still didn't feel as if I was in the way once. The meat was done perfectly and melted on the tongue, the veg were just right, great carrots I must say, roasties were just right.Sticky Toffee pudding and custard, all made on site and just as it should be, no skimpy portions. . Amazing staff, Great meal, Fantastic atmosphere.

Another good stopping off point on the A40 west to Pembrokeshire, or eastwards from holiday or the two (Fishguard and Pembroke Dock) Irish Ferries home. Linked to a petrol filling station and motel, the rrstaurant offers a good 'pub style' menu, which is always well cooked and served, and reasonably priced. Rarely busy, and used extensively by locals, this beats the normal 'comfort break' stops later on the M4.

My husband loves eating there and tries to stop whenever we pass that way. It is good enough to make him drive the 25 miles from Pembroke just for a meal) Some people might find the restaurant lay- out strange, being in sort of straight lines of booths but it works well. The staff are lovely there and make the diners feel really welcome. They are attentive, and relaxed enough to exchange a few pleasantries but the service is prompt and the food is always delicious. The menu is probably basically unchanged in a good few years but there is all the variety one needs to choose from .Although it is nicely presented, don't expect fine dining, just good wholesome food served by cheerful friendly staff.

Stopped here for an evening meal. Restaurant dated and felt a little cold. Asked for a childs portion of the homemade curry as this is what my son wanted, but told not an option and had to settle for the typical sausage and chips from child's menu. I opted for the homemade curry, which unfortunately was quite tasteless, not enough of it and slightly overpriced.

Left Kent at 6 am to go to Pembrokeshire. Did not want to stop at a motorway services for mediocre food, so stopped at Chiswick Bp for a coffee and danish, then hit it all the way to the end of the M4, after leaving the M4 The Forge was the 1st cafe / restaurant on the westbound carriageway of the A40. What a result, 2 courses of a full breakfast, good coffee for 2 only £20-00 including a good tip. Lovely staff and theee best sausages, can only assume the lodge is as good, as the private owners obviously take care of the place and take care choosing their staff

I believe the Thomas Arms were going through a reorganisation when we booked our meal, and it was difficult to contact staff. However, they now have changed their contact system to cover the different dept options, so I'm sure this has been resolved. We were a party of 12, at a time when the pub was very busy with the Christmas light celebrations, but the staff seemed to manage well and the table service was very good. The food was good in general, and the starter options of cockles, and the sticky toffee pudding were outstanding. All the staff were very pleasant and attentive

This was a great spot for lunch! We stopped off on spec and I was pleased to see vegan options. I had the vegan burger which was lovely. My parents had the chicken burger and the gammon, and they were equally pleased with the food, the portions and the service. I also had a vegan crumble tart with custard which was delicious! Overall a very pleasant experience, although prices were a little on the high side.

Stopped off here for lunch with my elderly mum and was pleasantly surprised. Whilst the seating was adequate the staff were very friendly and cleared vacated tables promptly. The drinks and food menu’s had plenty of choice and I decided to have the jacket potato with chicken curry which came with a salad garnish. The portion was great and the chicken curry was delicious…mum had a toasted sandwich which came with a small salad, coleslaw and some crisps. Both very reasonably priced and would not hesitate to recommend if you are looking for a lunch time bite. We will return.
