Sunday afternoon 19th Jan - Having just had a bad experience at a Llanelli Brewers Fayre we stumbled upon this place on our one-hour drive home and gave it a go.. What a positive difference. Atmosphere and layout of the table settings was so much more pleasing, uncluttered and roomy. Approached the staff at the bar and asked about food and were greeted with warmth and a welcome from the tattooed lady behind the bar. We took a seat, gave our table number and paid for one main carvery and one vegetarian dinner(and there were choices of veggie meal) and then proceeded to get our food with no fuss. Plenty of food was available and a choice of lovely looking meats for the non-veggie eater... as one would expect at a carvery!!. A decent selection of vegetables was also available to choose from. We filled our plates and found that the gravies were all suitable for vegetarians too. Well done guys. Next thing was to EAT the food. Lovely succulent meats with fab taste and the veggies were equally as good.... so much so that for only the second time in such an establishment, we both went for seconds of the vegetables. Consequently, neither of us wanted a dessert, but were reliably informed that a decent selection of desserts were available. The place was pretty clean throughout and the only negative inside was a few sheets of paper on the floor in the toilet which other dirty customers were responsible for! They would be cleaned soon after. Outside, there is tarmac car parking but this is limited but there is an ample sized overflow carpark with level access for wheelchair users BUT... the surface of the overflow carpark has deteriorated somewhat and wheelchair access would be possible, but a little bumpy.. i.e. it could do with a new re-surfacing!. The main carpark seems fine. Overall, we were very well pleased with our experience here and would certainly place it on our list of places to eat again if we find ourselves hungry and in the vicinity again.

Lovely team, good breakfast and a decent bed to sleep in. Check in was seamless with plenty of parking and close to M4. I will be back.

Food was awful. Had a carvery and the gravy was like water. Yorkshire pudding was like rubber and could not cut it. Stuffing was not cooked and full of huge lumps. Place has gone downhill over the last year. Won't be returning

Very poor. Despite pre-booking a Boxing Day menu for 2 the table was not set up properly with only one set of knife and fork (we had to take from another table for our mains) & no table cloth. Starters were served 10 mins apart, akin to a relay race!!! My wife ordered a carvery meal & I had ordered a Salmon En Croute, both of which had to be collected from the carvery - strange to say the least. Dessert, we both had Berry Crumble, was piping hot including the bowl it was served in. Unfortunately the custard was cold. Also when booking we asked for a bench seat as, being diasabled, I have difficulty sitting on a single chair. Despite the pub being only 25% full, that request was not fulfilled. We have always believed the Sessille Oak to be one of the best places to go for meal anywhere in West Wales but after yesterday they will never see us again. Sad really.

Had my Christmas dinner there this year, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this place. You won't be disappointed 🙂

Xmas day experience was so well done ,well organised the food was outstanding the temperature was not too hot inside the building and the staff and manager were fantastic.We have had some bad experiences over the years at this pub .This made up for all of them ,see you soon and definitely next Xmas

Enjoyed everything and not rushed

We visited here today for Christmas lunch and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely food and lovely staff. Good price for a three course for Xmas day. My large wine at almost £12 a glass knocked me sideways but besides that an enjoyable time.

We visited today for Breakfast with Santa and it was such a good experience. The food was lovely, the place was clean and tidy and Santa was brilliant. He made an effort to come round every single table and talk to all the kids. It didn’t feel rushed or cheap. But most of all, the staff were absolutely outstanding. Attentive, friendly and efficient. It was very busy but not once did they let on that they were stressed or under pressure. Always either serving customers, clearing tables, answering questions or helping kitchen staff. My husband is vegan and there was still plenty of options for him with Ben being very mindful of cross contamination. I want to give a special mention to Ben, Emily and Eli especially as they were gold star throughout. Excellent morning. Thanks for putting a huge smile on the kids faces. Merry Christmas x

It was a brilliant experience. The staff were all friendly, and the welcome was friendly. The prices are good, and the food is tasty. I highly recommend it.

£6.30 a pint and the worst carvery I’ve ever tried to eat, diabolical.

Took an age for the soup starter to come, and having ordered leek and potato I got tomato. No apology, just “that’s what we have”. Soup was nice though. Main was good. In summary, food good, service not so much.

We always stay here when visiting family prior to Christmas. The only criticism is the strong smell of cannabis at the doorway to the accommodation block and particularly at 6.50am this morning (20/12/24) which must have been blowing through the heating flew. Otherwise a nice place to stay and eat. The staff a exceptional.

Only popped in for a drink but carvery looked and smelt delicious dessert were so pretty too. Big place tables not too close to each other.. would go bk again. Will try food next time. Funny thing all the time I've gone shopping here I've never noticed this pub!!

Amazing service! Friendly staff with a homely feel. Tasty meal for the family and good, well kept beer for the gents of the family. Will be returning very soon

2 guests had 3 courses. 1 x prawn cocktail - bowl full of lettuce topped with 5 prawns and a light drizzling of sauce. 1 x chicken strip and popcorn combo which was light on the bbq sauce and the chicken was like it have been cooked yesterday and today. Both had carvery, the meat had some taste to it and was nice, the Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard even when soaked in gravy. The carrots and peas were rock hard, good enough to put in a pea shooter. The stuffing was nice. The cauliflower cheese was OK. Desert - the only only bareable part of the meal. The apple crumble could of done with a few more minutes under the grill and twice the amount of custard. Rocky road sundae was nice.

Fantastic service, although it was really busy, and we were a large party, the team were so friendly, and provided great service. It was the best experience I've had there!

I have been to many Marsden pubs throughout the country and this is by far my worst experience Being a vegetarian I always have the cheeses leek and potato pie as it is absolutely gorgeous on this occasion when the pie arrived at my table it looked like it had collapsed when I enquired they told me it was like that as they microwave there pies!!!! Needless to say I could not eat it as the pastry tasted Raw!! Absolutely terrible never again it has put me off ever frequenting one of your pubs again Absolutely Shocking!!!!!

Friday 6th Dec 24, 1pm. Three of us had the carvery. None eat more than 40%, it was terrible. The fourth person had a jacket potato with chilli which was okay. A complaint was made prior to our table being cleared of the waste food. To my knowledge the complaint was not acknowledged but I was busy in the toilet dispatching the little I had eaten.

Absolutely amazing service, especially by Emily 💖 But all the team are amazing always welcoming 😍 my lil family love coming for a game of pool, watching sports and enjoy the food and drinks 🥳

Food was cremated in a furnace from hell, hairs in food, got 2 meals instead of a meal and a side costing extra, staff are nice though but just issues with food

Alex behind the bar was very helpful, friendly and polite, took our food order which we had a few alterations to, everything arrived exactly as we asked. Generous portion sizes and good value for money.

Booked the hotel for a cheap and easy place to stay when visiting family. Room was lovely and just what we needed. Room was quiet and comfortable. Easy to access and location was great to get to where we needed to be. We also ate in the pub, food was excellent. Atmosphere is great and just a nice place to relax as it wasn't too noisy. Definitely will stay again when we need to visit family.

Very friendly staff, great food, great value. Stayed in hotel so had breakfast and dinner. Carvery had loads of meat and veg was amazing. Breakfast was plentiful and again lovely. Staff have been amazing throughout our stay.

Myself and my husband looked forward to a roast and usually it is delicious but today was awful, the sprouts were hard, the beef was tough and did not taste like beef and the roast potatoes tasted odd, we were really disappointed as we do not go out much and this is our treat. Will be thinking hard about returning

Came here for my son in law's wake. An area was sectioned off for us. Plenty of food available in the buffet my daughter had arranged. Also went to alot of trouble to set up a laptop so we could see photos of Pete.

Great service from Vickie this evening (12/11/2024) it was myself and three feral children! Vickie watched my kids while I went up to the carvery, was pleasant to myself and kids and even gave them all a squidgy toy for being so good! She also helped me get the kids back in their coats and wellies when leaving which was really helpful. Lovely lady. Thank you Vickie, you made quite a stressful meal time that bit easier :)

We had a lovely delicious Sunday lunch today. We both had pork, it was gorgeous. The veg trimmings, gravy tasty. The staff and chef very friendly. Will definitely return and recommend.

Pleasant room, good size, nice shower, sensible heating controls, very comfortable bed, pretty quiet once other guests had settled. Carvery meal generally good - cauliflower cheese was very undercooked and some of the vegetables were not very hot. Meat serving was generous, all meats tender and properly cooked. Info below relates to evening meal only!

Had a very nice carvery meal here. Quick service and good value.

Sticky tables and menu. No cutlery on our table or any nearby, no idea where to find it. Meal was okay, beef was hard and burnt on the outside. Team seemed very young think maybe some maturity on the team might help with customer experience.

The gravy with the carvery was unusual - 1 pot of gravy ( was water ) and the other pot of gravy ( was treacle)

We hadn't been before so we weren't sure if we needed to wait to be shown a table. A sticky table and an even stickier menu. No cutlery on our table or the next. Staff polite enough but they all seemed young, perhaps a bit of maturity and experience in the team would help them give a warmer welcome.

Staff were brilliant, polite and helpful.Food was lovely. Unfortunately the staff were rushed off their feet as the establishment did not staff appropriately, not taking into consideration that it was half term. It was obvious to see that the staff are not looked after by Marston's.

Very expensive for what we had for food

Such a shame. The food was ok but the service was terrible!! Waited ages to be served. Did manage to get a coffee this time but the spoon little on the large side. Wish they would smile and be polite would be an improvement!!!

Classic Pub that serve same standard food of several other. I know that it’s not tipical food but if added in the menu not only fish and chip but a piece of salmon, perhaps foraign client can really appreciate it.

Usual Marston fare of a very poor range of beers and lager, and very bland virtually everything. But pleasant enough, although the all-day carvery looked pretty uninviting to me!

Put 4 stars as it was ideally located for the Scarlets stadium. The place was nice enough and breakfast excellent. The service was OK, though slow to serve. Just wish there was music of any sort in the background. The tv was on....but no sound. I will stay again, but because of the location. The place could do with a bit of regular maintenance, painting...etc.

Understaffed, staff not knowledgeable on dishes, a number of customers waiting for meals to be delivered to complete the table. Staff gave the general impression that they didn't want to be there. I've had this experience there previously, I was hoping that there had been an improvement but there hasn't been. The food was okay but nothing special.

Had a great Sunday lunch recently. Good value and tasted great. Staff were excellent and could not do enough as it was a special occasion. Would highly recommend.

All the food was overcooked and took a long time to arrive 40 plus minutes

We visited the Sessile Oak recently for a quick meal after visiting Trostre for a shopping trip. The restaurant was clean and tidy, not too loud or busy which was perfect for our baby. The servers told us to pick a table and pop up when we're ready. We sat next to the pool table, which is a new addition since we visited last. We quickly scanned the menu and popped to the bar to order. My other half ordered a Veggie Pie, and I ordered a Pulled Pork burger, with Veggie Nachos as a side with our mains. The meals were brought to us within about 10 minutes, which was perfect after sitting down and having a chill. As far as the food goes, my burger was outstanding. The chips were nice and crispy, and the burger was full, but not so full it was falling apart. I did eat it with a knife and fork since it was probably too big to pick up but it tasted amazing. Our nachos were brilliant too, full of nachos and plenty of sauces and flavors on top (much better than other Marston's pubs I've been to). The pie however was unfortunately a let-down. Microwaved as usual, too soggy and wet for my other half to enjoy and she eventually couldn't finish it. Her chips were thick chips, tasted good, and the gravy, as usual in a carvery, was great. Vegan too! The disappointing pie meant that my other half didn't enjoy her food and felt like not eating, which is why we've voted for a 3/5 for food, but 4/5 overall. If the pie was crispy , happy days! No dessert this time, but definitely next time, since the sundaes and cakes here are usually outstanding!

Really like this Marston's chain, the bar staff work incredibly hard in this pub to make sure food comes out quickly and on time. Shout out tonight to Vicky behind the bar who didn't seem to move from taking everyone's orders!

Had a carvery there today and the food was the best it has been, full of flavour. Nice choice of vegetables , parsnips, peas ,carrots, roasties, red cabbage , cauliflower cheese. The veg was soft not hard like its been in the past. Good value for money.

We took the grandchildren here for tea yesterday, they have already been here with thier parents so knew exactly what they wanted. The staff were lovely, the place looked clean and comfortable, we opted for the Carvery, the children ordered what they wanted, the staff were very helpful. As we were early in the evening we caught it quite empty, nice looking little tables outside under cover, for when the weather is suitable. The food was typically standard carvery, but was warm and fresh. We did enjoy the food and will definitely think of calling back, easy to get to, large parking area, and not overpriced, typical pub grub. The toilets were spotless, and to me this is an area that you also judge when eating out, how clean the business keeps the toilet is as important as the food, service etc. This place is worth a visit.

Stayed mid week, so a lot of other guests were on business. The atmosphere was therefore quite subdued. That being said, the service was excellent, along with the food. Typical pub grub menu, but cooked well. Room was basic but clean. Encountered an issue with a blocked toilet, which was resolved straight away. This is a budget hotel, but done well. Would recommend if you need a functional overnight stay.

Came here for a few drink and was a lovely experience, Rosie, Chris, callus, Harry and vivkie were an amazing team together. Will definitely be returning

Nice staff, enjoyed the carvery which we ate in the bar area and went up to the bar to order. The vegetables were cooked nicely, would rather some different veg to what was there but what was there tasted nice. Man serving apologised for short wait at the bar. Overall a pleasant experience.

Good friendly staff. Vicky, Callum and Rosie were really friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Also Vicky was great with the kids and kept them happy and engaged. Food was good too.

Great welcome from the landlord and staff - all very helpful. The room was clean and well kept, surprisingly quiet. Tea and Coffee-making facilities great - maybe suggest a couple of sachets of hot chocolate for non-coffee drinkers? Food in the evening and at breakfast was very good and in generous quantities, table service excellent.

A great place to go for breakfast. Excellent and consistent service by Eli. The large,full English breakfast is good value for money and includes an unlimited continental breakfast buffet, juice and hot drinks.

Nice place, feels compact but actually very big. Food was lovely, typical brewers chain manu, but it was very well cooked, presented and the serving staff were efficient and very helpful and all with a smile. We really enjoyed ourselves and will visit again.

As usual this was a very good, easy visit to the pub pre match at Parc y Scarlets. The service was excellent and food delivered what we wanted.

Lovely staff veg was very salty in carvery

Turkey had two large veins running through the turkey crown. The chef came to check and told me that it was normal, they cut it in half and the veins were still there. Beef was lovely and that was about it.

Simply bar and restaurant set up, enjoyed the first time, so chose here for an anniversary meal. This time, while the food was lovely and the staff very nice, the place suddenly felt run down and like a local pub more than a restaurant. The table was not dirty but a bit sticky, and everything was a bit tatty. It was a shame as I remembered a nice cosy, farmhouse type feel last time. But the food was great.

Here for the quiz and as usual Harry, Lyn’s, Rosie, Emily and Beth were a great team, hardworking and very polite when carrying out their tasks.

Great Sunday carvery. Limited beer choices, just the mainstream stuff but otherwise excellent. Staff were great.

My and the wife went for a midweek carvery, well to say it was not pleasant was an understatement. Meat was ok apart from the rock solid ends, the potatoes tasted like they been under the heat lamp since the day before. Veg was hard and completely tasteless. Mash was like wall paper paste. Yorkshire were like rubber , safe to say we will never be back after this experience.

Staff here are very helpful and friendly to talk to. I ordered via the qr code at the table, a minute or so later a staff member came over to check whether the starter was to come out as a main meal. I really hadnt thought about specifying it was a main meal for our vegan friend so I can only assume that the young man had seen that there were 3 of us at the table and only 2 main meals ordered, or the young lady at the bar (who knew we had a vegan friend) saw the order and sent the lad to double check. Whichever staff member it was deserves a pat on the back for picking up on my lack of information (we had just come from a funeral). I dont remember that level of attentiveness and forward thinking in any other eatery ive been to. The food we had was lovely and we all enjoyed our time at the restaurant.
