Sessile Oak in Carmarthenshire

Great service and lovely meal with the family.

It started badly when the server, Simon, told me rudely that the Blue Light voucher for 20% off food was not valid as it was a Bank Holiday. This is despite the voucher saying it was valid all day every day. Then when I was ordering and paying he took a call and went outside to answer it. I was left to pay and had to reach over and take the voucher for the carvery for myself. The food was not good. One of the party had scampi which were really gritty and the mushy peas stone cold. The carvery vegetables were dry and shrivelled up under the heat lamps. It's a shame as last time we went it was really good but this time it was terrible.

Duty manager wasn't very accommodating and quite blunt. Told him we'd booked online and he just pointed to a general area and told us to sit anywhere. Didn't seem interested in welcoming us or advising if there was table service or if we order at the bar etc. Table was a bit sticky and really wobbly. Walls were heavily marked, in real need of TLC. Same duty manager brought our drinks over and slammed them on the table in one. Opted for ice in the drinks but didn't get any. Guy who brought the food out was more pleasant. Food was average, what you expect for the price. Overall not much atmosphere at all and didn't feel welcome from the start with the duty manager's attitude. Wouldn't return.

Good beer, delicious food including every day carvery with tender toasted meats. Good for kids, family, dogs, it is the perfect pub. Service is great. We go there every week. And it is now with live music on Sundays

What an amazing duo both Emily and Kacey are through the time I was there they dealt with the customer traffic superbly and communicated throughout there were others there a male running food and another male who I believe is the manager he didn’t look quite so happy or approachable I heard how he spoke to others and how he spoke about others loud enough so they can hear him which wasn’t very nice to hear, really was lovely seeing the young women supporting each other

Clean, friendly comfortable room. Staff very good, friendly and helpful. Food is good and sensibly priced.

No receptionist so felt impersonal however was a budget hotel and showers weren't very powerful

Great value carvery for Sunday lunch. Well cooked meats given in decent portions with a variety of plentiful vegetables. The red cabbage was really tasty as was the cauliflower cheese. Staff are friendly and pleasantly engaging but not over attentive. Gets my vote for a go to reliable carvery venue.

First time there, the woman behind the bar wasn’t friendly at all. Big attitude problem. About 30 minutes after eating there, I felt unwell and had horrible diarrhoea and was sick through the night! Went on for the whole day after. Never been ill like that ever! Never go back.

Had a breakfast Easter weekend. Two slices of dried bread at the breakfast section, no butter, empty boxes of cereal thrown on the unit. Croissants advertised but none available, went to make a cup of tea/coffee, no water in the urn. Full English Breakfast was cold on arrival and had to ask for replacement cutlery as cutlery had the previous nights dinner still on them Absolutely awful ! Never again !

Good place to stay and eat, stayed for a few weeks for work, Vicky and Amy were very helpful and would stay again 👍🏻

A Lovely Spot for a Relaxed Family Meal We had a really pleasant visit to this family-style pub—it’s welcoming, relaxed, and has a nice local feel to it. The menu is full of comforting classics, with something to suit everyone, and the food was well-cooked and generously portioned. One thing that really stood out was how polite and helpful the chef was. He came out to check on things personally, chatted with us about the food, and made sure any dietary needs were taken care of without any fuss. It’s rare to see that kind of personal touch, and it made the experience even more enjoyable. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for a laid-back meal with family. We’ll definitely be back soon—it’s a solid choice if you’re after good food in a welcoming setting

Reasonable food at reasonable prices

Food was bueatiful,yet disgusting attitude of the lady behind bar I'm sure she was head manager,myself and my staff was having lunch with the ppl we support,when eating dessert the person we support was having trouble swallow chocolate cake,she had started panicking i went to bar where it was a queue so went to the nearest lady who was taking stuff back to bar,I politely ask please can I have a glass of water,she didn't stop an answer just mumbled back I'm busy doing something didn't even turn around to answer just walked of,by this time I had to go to ladies toilet to get water,appalling behaviour,food and atmosphere is outstanding there tho,seemed as if sum1 had an off day,the situation could of turned a lot worse!

A bowl of tomato soup - Less than half full. Onion Bhajis - tasteless, overcooked, associated salad virtually non existent. Garlic bread only toasted on one side. Mac cheese was OK but the main course offering is what I would call starter size and there was virtually no pulled pork and it was certainly not worth the extra £2. All paper dispencers in lady''s toilet were empty.Toilet paper on the floors or on a top of hygine waste bins and generally looking unkempt. Table was not properly cleaned.

Everyone we met were friendly and helpful. They were attentive and professional. The food was lovely and there was something for everyone.

We were greeted as we came through the door and told we could sit wherever we liked. Friendly staff and great service, warm atmosphere. Food was fresh and hot without a long wait. It's why we keep coming back.

Had a lovely Carvery last night with my mum food was lovely I'd like to thank Ben and Tristan for the best fresh cooked carvery it was 10/10 😋 100% recommend here especially when Ben and Tristan are in as the food is always exceptional also the service by all staff was amazing 👏

Visited the Sessile Oak for a birthday meal and had a fantastic evening. The food was delicious – freshly cooked, well presented, and generous portions. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome throughout. Great atmosphere too, perfect for a relaxed celebration. Will definitely be returning – highly recommend!

Very impressed. Clean, welcoming, music was at a nice level,not overpowering. Only had drinks and snacks. But very nice.

Went in last week with a table of 6 with 2 in wheel chairs seated straight away with plenty of room. Bar staff were lovely and the chef went above and beyond to be fair we needed purified food and he over heard me saying I would cut up another's food and he came and offered to cut it all up ready was a great experience for our service users thank you

Been here for food twice recently (Christmas Day and Mothers Day) and both times we had great food and great service.

Ordered the steak pie came with jacket potatoes and peas meal was cold so sent it back came black nice and hot but no meat in the pie so will not be coming back

I always have breakfast Saturday but this week only 1 person was working there was no hot water no juices no plates the tables were all cluttered eli (elizabeth) wasn't working she is the best waitress you've got we also go every Sunday and when she's there it's a fantastic atmosphere everything is efficient really a difference when she's not there . Also I have ordered the new dark chocolate mint dessert twice and you havnt got it why put it on the menu if you havnt got it Thank you Gaynor Preece A loyal customer

I just have to leave a review to say how fantastic the service has been for me tonight. After recently being diagnosed as gluten intolerant and having a very bad experience at a high street food chain last week. This has been a breeze, my food has been beautiful, hot and most importantly tasty. I’ve been able to have poppadoms and a chocolate fudge cake which have both been delicious. Thank you to Vickie, Amy, Eli, Kieran and Kacey for your superb service tonight. You’ve all been amazing.

Firt time I'd been in years.. vegetarian option were great and very tasty. Staff and atmosphere were relaxed and lovely.

We dined last night and the food me and my partner has was shocking. We both went for the doner kebab which is priced at just under £15 I think. Well what came out was bad! I had 6 slithers of meat and my partner had 5, i dont know how that can be classed a main meal, my plate was mainly chips and pitta bread which was not cooked. Very disappointed and doubtful I will return

I enjoy coming to Sessile Oak in Llanelli. Kieran, Elli, Emily, Amy, Vickie and Casey made my day magical with pixie dust and made my dream sparkle at the Sessile Oak, Llanelli all the Staff are friendly.

Really lovely bar, the carvery was amazing! Really friendly and welcoming staff.

Very disappointed with the service, we had to wait almost 30 mins for our drinks to arrive. Our food arrived and we asked our server for our drinks, she said she would find out from the bar. She didn't return to let us know why there was a delay. When our drinks were delivered by a server he apologised for the delay but when we asked to speak to a manager to explain the delay, he told us to go to the bar to ask. We were going to complain on the way out but there was only one person serving at the bar and we didn't want to pressure them. If there is a next time we will order at the bar not the table.

Always first class here. Excellent service from the staff. Carvery is exceptional. Meat,vegetables and gravy are the best around. Place is very clean with a good relaxed atmosphere. Cant reccomend highly enough. Thanks!

The chef with the big beard was very pleasant, and brought our food with such a smile, the bar staff vickie and Amy were amazing also, highly recommended for food and drinks. The food was piping hot, as there’s a few things I disliked on the dish I ordered,the understanding and acceptance was amazing and I can’t thank the staff enough. Atmosphere here was also good, Thank you all for an amazing evening 100% 5* rating !!!!

Everyone was very friendly when we arrived as well as throughout the evening. The food were there quickly and it was lovely. It was my birthday and the lady that served us even sang to me. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Lovely Sunday roast . Staff very pleasant

First time at venue , nice clean and tidy place, nice food and most importantly for us was friendly and pleasant staff , in particular ELI who was very nice and accommodating throughout ,right up untill we left , would for sure be visiting again

Restaurant and hotel review: Restaurant is pub like with carvery that's served every day. The staff in the morning were excellent the food was a three out of five, just a standard fry up with a selection of boxes cereals and bread etc. It got the job done. The evening can get busy at peak times and the staff were busy so the freindlyness dropped and a few times I was ignored at the bar whilst food guests took priority. The hotel is better than Travelodge standards, the beds comfy and the room faced the rear of the property, I did notice that my bed base was disgusting with lots of marks and stains see photo. The outside is busy so this may disrupt your nights sleep. On arrival food waste was outside the entrance and although the bin was emptied daily there was constantly rubbish in the car park, it needs some TLC and a clean up. Overall it's a good setup the food was good and I slept ok but wouldn't visit again.

Went for sons 14 birthday party 20 of us service was quick and catered to our every needs. Left tip also as staff were lovely.

Unable to order from the full kids menus on line. Service was slow and none cleared the tables meaning we had all plates on the table from main meal and puddings. Staff were friendly and carvery was very good. Steak and sausages overcooked. No cutlery for kids. It was an ok experience but not sure we would come back.

Family venue for meals, nice rooms good service from the staff. It's out of town so you have to book a taxi couple of hours in advance. We used S&G taxis. Great service. All round great stay

The pub itself is great and spacious but do NOT recommend the carvery. Went to put some potatoes on my plate and there was a hair in my food!!!! The beef has some sort of blue shine to it and it was excessively pink!! Vegetables were rock solid and over all just over priced, sticky tables and I was sat by a wall that was covered in food and god knows what else!! Won’t be returning.

Chose from the carvery, which had a good choice of vegetables and meats. However, the food appeared to have been kept warm for quite a while; very dry vegetables, the roast potatoes were very dry and hard around the edges, not crunchy. The roast beef portion was a good size but quite a lot of it was "chewy". Service a bit slow but they were fairly busy.

Cold food waited ages for replacement food we gave up waiting went to bar for refund to be told we had requested for fresh food , I said no , had a refund never again will go there

Went for dinner 3 of us . Order steak and chip's the chip's I would say we're leftovers from earlier dinner soaked in oil , onion rings same, steak was like a rasher. Lasagne with very little mince tiny portion. Chicken that was out of the microwave no serviettes had to ask for cutlery, NEVER NEVER AGAIN

All ok except steak was chewy and tough. Poor quality for £17.50!

Was very disappointed. Had a party of 11 for my mums birthday most of the food delivered was cold sent one back we all finished by the time they had redone this one a lot of food we paid for was wasted as it wasn't hot enough to heat will not return also no steak available

Terrible food.. waited 30 minutes for the food wich was ok as expected.. but it was cold and over cooked .. chips had been mixed with older chips hence the dark brown ones withe lighters ones ..plus paid extra for a larger poition all together about 30 chips in total and yes I did ask the server if this amount was was correct .she said (yeah it was) the pie crust was so hard I only ate the filling wich was stone cold 🥶 side of peas 🫛 well one folk full .. shocking 😱 4 star 🌟 review will not be there again ! Mc Donald's can do better .. total waste 🗑 of money £13 💰.. stay clear from this rip off place .... only gave a 1 star because I had to to be able to post this reviewing post

Loved the food nice atmosphere would recommend

We've visited the pub many times, but this was our first time staying in hotel. We stayed for 3 nights, Thursday - Saturday. Overall, a great experience and will definitely stay with you again as convenient for us when in area. Constructive feedback - there was no towel rail in room for us to dry towels so we could reuse so you ended up changing everyday. And I suspect the extractor fan in bathroom was faulty as got very humid and damp in there after 4 of us has showered in the morning! Everything else was great, staff were lovely and friendly and we look forward to staying with you again.

Spent the evening at the Sessile Oak Llanelli with my wife and son for food and drinks on Valentine's day. On arrival we were told by a friendly bar maid Vickie to sit anywhere and when your ready to order come to the bar with your table number. We ordered drinks first with Kacey who had the best personally ever. We ordered our food with Amy who was polite and very professional and you could see she loved her job. Our food was delivered by Nikki who was again polite just like the other staff. We come here every Friday night after a hard weeks work this is the place we just relax in a fantastic atmosphere and served by brilliant staff. The service weather it's drinks or food is fast and efficient and the staff go out of their way to make you experience at the Sessile Oak a great one. Plenty of bar staff, quick service and always a pleasure to come here week after week. See you next Friday - Kerri Evans

Lovely restaurant with great food but the welcoming staff are the real reason we return each week. In particular special mention to Vickie Nikki amy and kasey especially on such a busy night as valentine !!!!

Made a booking for Valentines Day a week ago. Despite their email saying someone would be there to greet us, we were ignored solidly for 15 minutes on arrival. We tried to talk to 3 members of staff, who all averted their eyes, walked off, or shouted over us to other customers / their colleagues. We eventually left, and went to the Joiners Arms instead. Much friendlier staff there - and thankfully they had a table at 6.30pm on Valentine's Day! Needless to say, we will never be returning to the Sessile Oak! Edit - I can see that someone from the Sessile Oak has read my review, and thanked me for my feedback. If the restaurant manager reads this, I would like to suggest they hire hosts / greeters (especially for special occasions) and put in place some customer service training.

Lovely carvery for a busy venue

Came here today after 1-2 years. Surprised to see there was a pool table which was nice! The lady behind the bar (dark hair with a fringe didn’t get her name) who served us was amazing especially as I had a few amendments, asked straight if we had any allergies and served us quickly and professional! Food was great, however only downside which is why I marked 4 stars was that the fries weren’t hot more warm and a bit crispy but definitely still more than edible! Will definitely be making more of an effort to come here now we have moved closer.

This is our favourite place when visiting Trostre Retail Park. Great service and food. Unfortunately, this time around, our full breakfast was a little cold and undercooked, hence just 4 stars, but may be because it was close to the end of breakfast service.

nice place in principle but lacks quality control in the food that comes out of the kitchen. 4 out of 4 visits has resulted in food being sent back to the kitchen because of quality control issues. Won't be going back. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Sunday afternoon 19th Jan - Having just had a bad experience at a Llanelli Brewers Fayre we stumbled upon this place on our one-hour drive home and gave it a go.. What a positive difference. Atmosphere and layout of the table settings was so much more pleasing, uncluttered and roomy. Approached the staff at the bar and asked about food and were greeted with warmth and a welcome from the tattooed lady behind the bar. We took a seat, gave our table number and paid for one main carvery and one vegetarian dinner(and there were choices of veggie meal) and then proceeded to get our food with no fuss. Plenty of food was available and a choice of lovely looking meats for the non-veggie eater... as one would expect at a carvery!!. A decent selection of vegetables was also available to choose from. We filled our plates and found that the gravies were all suitable for vegetarians too. Well done guys. Next thing was to EAT the food. Lovely succulent meats with fab taste and the veggies were equally as good.... so much so that for only the second time in such an establishment, we both went for seconds of the vegetables. Consequently, neither of us wanted a dessert, but were reliably informed that a decent selection of desserts were available. The place was pretty clean throughout and the only negative inside was a few sheets of paper on the floor in the toilet which other dirty customers were responsible for! They would be cleaned soon after. Outside, there is tarmac car parking but this is limited but there is an ample sized overflow carpark with level access for wheelchair users BUT... the surface of the overflow carpark has deteriorated somewhat and wheelchair access would be possible, but a little bumpy.. i.e. it could do with a new re-surfacing!. The main carpark seems fine. Overall, we were very well pleased with our experience here and would certainly place it on our list of places to eat again if we find ourselves hungry and in the vicinity again.
