We stayed here while we were attending a wedding a few miles away. We received the warmest welcome on our arrival, the man checking us in was lovely and made us feel welcome, and interacted with our 2 young children as well. Our room was beautifully decorated, clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable and we all had 2 good nights sleep. We had breakfast on each morning of our stay, the team again were very attentive and welcoming. They lose a star on my rating though as the hash brown on both mornings was so unbelievably salty there were clumps of salt residue on my plate; and the scrambled eggs had an unusual unpleasant taste that I was unable to eat it. The continental breakfast was good though. All in all a lovely visit.

The restaraunt we were looking for turned out to be closed so we ventured into Flanagans instead, we weren't sure about it at first if I'm honest, it looked more pub than restaraunt but we needed dinner so took a table. The bar server was friendly and passed us a couple of menus and pointed out the specials. Drinks ordered we sat and went through the menu but both decided on the beef and ale pie from the specials. Whatever misgivings I might have had disappeared as soon as I cut into the pie! This chef knows how to make pastry! And the filling was glorious, big chunks of tender beef, rich with ale and gravy it was easily one of the best steak pies I've ever tasted - and filled to the brim as well. A lovely buttery mash and fresh carrots and broccoli to accompany it along with an extra little pot of gravy. Proper home style cooking, loved it. If we ever come back to Sandown we will surely go back to Fanagans

Needs to make clear that it is a restaurant if that is indeed what it is rather than a pub and take that stupid sign down from outside. You are told you can't have a drink there on a Saturday evening as all the tables are reserved. At least the manager was bleatingly polite.

What a wonderful little pub. My colleague and I were on a business trip and came across this gem as it was near to where we were staying. First off it has a big car park and pub garden. Walked in to a warm pub with a lit open fire and jovial atmosphere. Beautiful old style building with beautiful big beams. Staff and landlord were extremely welcoming and attentive. Food portions were large and wonderfully cooked using fresh produce. If we lived locally we would 100% be returning.

We were 2 couples having dinner at at The Anchor and it was absolutely delicious. We all had different starters and mains and non of the food disappointed us. We've been here several times now over the years (we live in Nottingham). The portions are huge too, so even Dodger (the dog) enjoyed the extra beef and chicken. Stefh and the staff really looked after us. Thank you to you all for a great afternoon. See you again very soon. Caroline

The Navigation on the Rush bearing festival is absolutely packed. Staff work fast and friendly and courteously despite huge pressures and a multitude of thirsty customers. The pub itself has a quite traditional interior and is tucked away down a small road off the beaten track. But it's worth making a detour. Even better is making the short walk along the canal from the canal basin.
