We arrived with 2 prams and 4 adults, the look on the servers face when he saw us approach was that of distaste and inconvenience! We asked for an outdoor table (of which there were plenty) to be advised that area was closed. He then escorted us inside and advised where the most "convenient" table was... which involved both prams being on one side of the table with 1 adult between them... not reasonable so we brought one pram round to the other side and he had to approve this was not "in the way" before he provided us menus... the pram was essentially under the table and was in no way a hazard. There were alot of dogs in the cafe which meant that the babies woke up so we had to swap them out into high chairs. We could feel that this caused further inconvenience. The menu was good and the food arrived very quickly. It was good quality , fresh food and the apple pie slice was so soft and delicious. I would however expect this to be the case when paying above average prices. Upon leaving, we could see they had since opened up the outdoor area for other parties. Very disappointing. In my opinion, some staff training wouldn't go amiss. However, everything else was great.

It's a nice little spot. Initially we were in the shop, although wanted to sit down, and then we spotted the sign saying the cafe entry was around the corner. We were welcomed to a table and given the little intro about ordering via the QR code app, or at the counter. The queue at the counter looked quite big so we chose the app, but that was a mistake. I was a bit dissapointed with the small square slice of apple pie for the cost. It was tasty, but for something that I expected to be homemade it was just not what I expected.

Good food and coffees etc in this busy cafe next to the Ambleside ‘house on the bridge’. Busy = normally have to Q for a table but worth it. Have to order at a counter rather than via a waiter but goods delivered to table OK. Don’t just serve apple pie 🥴 !

When we got there we were really excited because we could see other peoples food and it looked amazing. There were lots of open tables and lots of members of staff walked past us but it took ten minutes until we were seated. Not sure why there was such a delay to be honest. Once seated we were told it wasn’t table service which was fine. We went up and ordered our food. The food itself was fantastic. I had the pesto chicken baguette and my partner had the sausage roll. We also enjoyed a slice of apple pie after which I highly recommend. It seemed very busy but in actual fact there were a ridiculous amount of staff roaming around but not seeming to do a lot and weren’t very friendly. Dogs are welcome which we thought was lovely. However, when we left the cafe we realised that we smelt awful. They smell from the cooking really lingered on our clothes and hair. We think (but obviously not sure) that this was due to having to wait by a vent for ten minutes.

The staff at the Apple Pie Café are lovely - friendly, helpful and welcoming both to me and my soggy labrador. Having been several times in the past I have always found it to be fairly consistent but I was really disappointed this time. I ordered a pot of tea and scone - at just under £8 it was quite a lot more than I usually pay at home so my expectations were high. The scone looked quite nice but it really failed to deliver - slightly dry, very little fruit, More style than substance. The jam 0 bit of a misnomer - paste would have been more accurate - a sugary, sticky, claggy mixture that didn't have any discernable fruit in it. It was a real shame and unfortunately such a poor experience I doubt very much whether I would visit again - far too expensive for something so mediocre.

Amazing food we had bean burger, falafel wrap, bacon brie and cranberry toasty and a steak baguette. The food was all lovely especially my toasty and the falafel. We asked for steak baguette with no mustard mayo and received normal mayo instead so our fault. The steak was so plentiful my little brother didn't realise until he had nearly finished. Exceptional mains delicious desserts would seriously recommend the vanilla slice and winter warmer spiced apple juice and gin. Lovely visit have been before and sure will be back again soon.

The Apple Pie Cafe has caught my eye a few times as I've passed through Ambleside, so, since I was looking for afternoon tea during a Lake District visit recently, I decided it was time to try it out. And sure enough, at the top of their menu is "Our Famous Apple Pie", so I had to give that a go. It comes either plain or with mixed spice and sultanas, so I picked the latter as sounding more interesting. All I can say is... believe the hype. This was quite possibly THE best apple pie I have ever tasted. The pastry (not too much of it) was very light and crumbly and dusted with sugar, the apples (Bramley) were utterly delicious and tangy, and the spices and sultanas just sent it even further beyond the next level and gave it a wonderfully Christmassy taste. Guess where I'll be eating again when I next visit the Lake District in December?? (And for anyone who's interested, the cafe also runs a B&B and self-catering accommodation, which I haven't tried, but would definitely be willing to give them a go in the future.)

Today was our 3rd visit to this cafe this week, the staff are so accommodating and pleasant, the food is exceptional and the prices are even more exceptional. Although we had to queue today in the rain to get in it was well worth it....

We stopped by for a takeaway apple pie and hot cross buns today. We all agreed it was the best apple pie we've ever had and equally the best hot cross buns ever. That is from a family of food lovers and bakers. Didn't eat...

This was our first visit back to The Apple Pie cafe since Covid. We had planned to visit after our walk up Loughrigg Fell. On entering the cafe the change was dramatic. Gone has the cosy, warm feeling you used to get. We got sat...

Can’t understand why when it’s almost self service they then add on a service charge, it makes you feel very pressured and uncomfortable to say yes! Prices are already very high. Over £18 for two coffees and cake, not sure I’d rush to return. The...

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

My husband and I were staying at the nearby county hotel and decided to call in for a coffee on the way into the shopping area. The coffee was great and the millionaires slice was lovely. Service was very good.
