Hi The car parking was confusing as the signage to the restaurant is poor. When eventually you see a sign the road has a disability sign on it and the other road leading directly to the restaurant is blocked by posts. This really should be investigated as this is a potential hazard to pedestrians with cars having to reverse down the road as it's too narrow for car's to turn around. When you get to the restaurant the room was a great location and decorated tastefully; a reminder to the days of splendor in a manor house. The meal was absolutely delicious, with large portions and it was nice to eat a traditional meal using local ingredients and not catering food. The roast potatoes were like my wife's Grandmother used to cook, the broccoli was cooked perfectly, and the cabbage was perfectly cooked using vinegar oil to flavour it. There was a good option for a dairy free meal. A special thank you for Molly for helping with the menu choices as we needed a dairy free option and for being such a knowledgeable and attentive and friendly waitress. We will definitely return when we next holiday in the Lakes.

Family of 5 had Sunday lunch at a lovely table with an amazing view. Loved the flavours that were added to the roast potatoes, red cabbage and sprouts. Lamb was delicious. One of the beef was a little tough, but gave free dessert to compensate. Very friendly and attentive staff. So pleased we booked here.

Never even made it in. Having rang the bell, the manager eventually came out and told us they had no tables. Fair enough. She then went into the intricacies of why they were busy; lack of staff (not our fault). This was then repeated to us. We made the ‘do I look like I care face’ and left. Rubbish. The menu looked good to be fair but don’t lecture us on staffing problems when we have two hungry kids present. No one cares. Yet to have a really pleasant dining experience in the Lakes…

We called in for a late lunch whilst in Windermere collecting from one of our suppliers. We both had a main and a sweet. The setting and views are superb as is the place itself. The menu was interesting and varied the food was first class and the table service can't be bettered . Prices for mains were average but the sweets were very reasonable overall it falls in to the must do again category

Having been to The Gaddum earlier in the year, I couldn't think of anywhere I'd rather go in the area to celebrate my birthday. We enjoyed a truly delicious lunch in beautiful surroundings and the team looking after us were fabulous. The standard of food is very high and, especially for the Lake District, exceptional value. I'll be back before my next birthday!

My son booked the Gaddum restaurant for my birthday lunch. The room was decorated for Christmas so beautifully and we sat by the fire. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I have an allergy to sulphites and the waiter was very diligent in checking the ingredients in the food and drink. The lunch was delicious and I was presented with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on my dessert plate. Thankyou so much for making my day special for me. August 2021 We had a lovely Sunday lunch experience here. We are return customers after having a lovely visit on our last lakes holiday in October. Molly was great, welcoming, engaging and just the right amount of conversation, interested but not intrusive. The service was also great. Thank you Molly. The kitchen did a good job too, our smoked salmon starter and beef or lamb roasts were really good. The courgette wasn’t to everyone’s taste and there was quite a delay to get the veg portion and gravy to the table. Not so long that I would mark them down, but something that needs refinement. Not sure why everything wasn’t on the pass waiting to go? But once we got it the potatoes were good and the cauliflower cheese was ok. A little watery for my preferences, but again not enough to mark down. Deserts were delicious and enjoyed by us all. Highly recommend going here for a lovely meal and some peace, calm and respite after all of the Brockhole activities. October 2020 Lovely quality lunch here before tree top trek. Service was great, food quality and presentation also great. The restaurant is on the left as you enter the building. The decor is very tranquil and country house. The two hosts front of house were lovely and dealt with all of our queries and questions. The service and the food were really good quality and presented very well on quality bone China. The chocolate tart was particularly special. If we could afford it one of my children wanted to employ the chef in charge of the brownies as our personal chef, they were THAT good!! Don’t pay for parking if dining here there is a pass system.

Just returned full to the brim from an exceptional three-course festive lunch at The Gaddum, it was truly amazing. The ham hock croquette starter set the scene to an absolutely brilliant main course of roast turkey which was just sublime! The hidden treasure though was when we found the sausagemeat below, omg, delicious! Served with yummy roasties and seasonal vegetables. To cap it all, a beetroot pavlova dessert, the testament for which was when my hubby said he could safely say that was the best dessert he’d ever had! With the three courses came coffee of your choice served with a petit mince pie. And can’t forget to mention they serve our favourite Prosecco! The restaurant is beautiful, and at the moment is decked out with classy festive decor, the wood burning stoves add to the delightful ambience. All staff are discreetly attentive and really friendly. We had the Festive lunch and it was absolutely superb. Venison tartare and salmon both amazing starters that we could have kept eating all day. Lamb and fish of the day both had some interesting (weird sounding) elements that proved to be totally delicious. The veggies were all seasonal but nothing was standard or run of the mill-sesame paste with the root veg and Jerusalem artichoke with olive sauce. Sounds weird? Yes but... it. was. incredible. We had a beetroot pavlova for dessert even though we’d eaten too much already and the mini mince pies were crumbly and sweet. Service was quick and friendly, we didn’t much like the rose but they were very accommodating in finding something to do the food justice. Beautiful venue, view of the lake. It really was the most wonderful afternoon. Would highly recommend-this is high end restaurant food for a fraction of the price: 2xsoft drinks, 2xglasses of wine, 2xstarters and mains, a shared dessert, 2xcoffees and mini mince pies-£67 bargain. Not to mention lovely people. Go here. (Didn’t get pictures of the starters because we ate them too fast)

Existing reviews are very inviting but it is massively overrated in my opinion. It might have been good once but between booking problems, the sheer ordinariness of all of the food and drinks presented in terms of how it looked and tasted ( I mean, the finger sandwiches looked and tasted like they had been produced days beforehand) and the slowness of the service, I cannot recommend this place. Added to this, the lack of directions to parking and then the profusion of confusing signs around parking etc., really not good.

We are ladies who like an Afternoon Tea but I won’t be recommending the Gaddum! It’s hidden away and after finally finding it we were hoping to be pleasantly surprised but we were very disappointed.4 very average tiny sandwiches, 2 tiny scones and 3 little bits of cake and that was your lot. The only plus side was you could have as many coffees and teas included in the price. It usually costs £25 each but we got it on the eat out to help out offer so it was £15 each. To tell you the truth it wasn’t even worth that. Come on Gaddum I’m sure you can do better.

Although we’re locals, first time we ate lunch at the Gaddum today and were very pleasantly surprised. The food and service was really excellent. Like a Michelin star restaurant at half the price. The Arts and Crafts decorated room and views are also lovely. The only issue The Gaddum has is that you need to park down in the main car park and walk one minute up to the house, but that really is a small price to pay for such a wonderful lunch.

Whilst I have rated the experience as AVERAGE I want to point out that the food we ate was extremely good and beautifully served. The issues I have were to do with facilities primarily. I appreciate that The Gaddum is marketing itself towards the high end of the market and think that the whole experience should reflect this.Parking is in the main Brockholes car park. This isn’t very convenient especially as you have to walk up to the restaurant to get a car park ticket then go back down to put it in your car then walk back up to the restaurant again. A fit person on a fine day would have no issues but my first impression wasn’t good at all. People may not be appropriately dressed to walk up and down a steep path, possibly in the rain or in the dark. There needs to be a separate car park right next to the main entrance of the restaurant. The other concern was the long walk to the toilets and close proximity to the main cafe and shared use of facilities.Whilst I accept that it may be difficult to have separate facilities installed, the noise levels from school parties of kids and using joint facilities took the edge off the atmosphere I’m sure the management are trying to convey. The building work and restoration look great so far and are very sympathetic to the age and period of the building but I think these two inconveniences need to be overcome if The Gaddum really wishes to attract the clientele the menu suggests they are searching for.

We had a wonderful return visit to The Gaddum yesterday for lunch, and can't recommend it highly enough. The dining room is elegant with stunning views, and the service was perfect: friendly and chatty but professional and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble and it was paced exactly right. We were fortunate to meet Katie, the catering manager, and Gerald the head chef, and their passion for the Gaddum was genuine. It really mattered to them that we had an enjoyable afternoon, and we weren't disappointed. The food was presented beautifully, and the flavours superb, so much skill, thought and effort clearly goes into each dish. The wine was delicious and very reasonably priced. Every aspect of our meal this afternoon was fantastic, from the moment we arrived and were greeted by a friendly member of staff to the moment we left. The food was exceptional: absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. It was very good value too: the prices were comparable to a mid-range bar meal but the quality and taste were in a different league altogether. It wasn't just the food that impressed us though. The staff were wonderful: friendly and attentive (but not intrusive) and they went out of their way to make our meal special. The restaurant and lounge (where we waited until our table was ready) are beautifully decorated and offer lovely views of the lake. All in all, I can't recommend this place highly enough!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in this beautiful restaurant. The cosy lounge and elegant dining room are worth a visit on their own but our meal was one of the best we have ever eaten and the price was unbelievably reasonable. The chef had used local ingredients in a very interesting and inventive way and the presentation was fantastic. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful and told us about the fascinating history of the building. All in all an excellent experience and we can’t wait to come back.

We enjoyed the most fabulous lunch here. The Gaddum is set within a rather lovely, restored Victorian Arts & Crafts manor, overlooking landscaped gardens with a view of Lake Windermere. Staff service was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. The food I can only describe as divine! Imaginative and creative, beautiful to behold and perfect on the palette. This a MUST VISIT experience when visiting The Lakes. Don't miss out.

We had the sheer pleasure of having our dinner at this restaurant one night of our 13 day tour of Yorkshire and the Lake District. The service was extraordinary and food beyond description. One of the very best meals we have ever had on a tour or even ever!! We had the staff make an appearance at the end so we could thank them all personally.

On arrival to the Gaddum yesterday, me and my partner were blown away by the beautiful decor of the restaurant. We were greeted by a very polite, smiley young man who took us through to the lounge area whilst we ordered our drinks and our food. The lounge was filled with comfy sofas and chairs and had a really relaxed atmosphere.

Visited for afternoon tea on a Saturday. We were very well looked after by Abigail. A lovely polite young lady who was attentive yet also gave us time and space to enjoy the surroundings and delicious food. Table was layed out beautifully. Appreciated the flowers on our table and at the window. Excellent choice of teas. Soft thick bread. Dietary requirements well taken care of. Thank you very much!

The Gaddum is situated in the main building at the Brockhole National Park Visitors Centre. At the moment they are only open from 1100-1600 which is a shame as the menu seems to be more aimed towards fine dining and not the usual lunch menu you will find in the majority of Lake District restaurants. Unfortunately my wife and I were the only customers which is a shame as the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. My had a main course and a desert each plus drinks and it was just over £50. My wife had Bream Blackened cauliflower, pickled cauliflower, capers, seaweed. Followed by Banana Parfait

I had a celebration lunch here with a friend during the Great North Swim. The restaurant is lovely and a fabulous treat for fans of William Morris. The dining menu is very good. I ordered sea bass which was beautifully prepared. I saw that you can also get afternoon tea here which looks amazing.

We decided to treat ourselves to afternoon tea on our last day in the Lakes District. From when I phoned The Gaddam to make a booking until we left it was faultless. Thank you Abigail. The service and food was excellent and the venue was beautiful. A great way to spend a drizzly overcast afternoon, then the weather cleared up just in time for us to take a walk around the garden. A very pleasant memorable part of our UK trip.

This place is a gem, you want to come here for an unforgettable experience. I will class it as fine dining but we walked in with sport attire with no question asked. Few things to note: this place is hidden away from many visitors. Park at main car park, pay the fee (I will suggest 3 hours) then speak to the waitress about the car park. The restaurant was tastefully decor with Edwardian design. More importantly, the foods surprised us with layers of flavour and creativity, which you would find at high end restaurant. For the price we paid, it was a good deal. We had 3 courses at lunch time, and all of them were delicious and mind blowing. Special thanks to Abigail who looked after us during the meal: good service attitude and She explained the ingredients of each food. We highly recommend this place.

We visited today for a delicious lunch after taking part in activities within the centre where the restaurant is based. I am not sure however, what clientèle this restaurant is trying to attract but with no dress code we attended in walking atire with my 2 children. The food was delicious, lovely decor but I think the place is trying to be more 5 star than it is!! Dead flies on the windowsill, paper napkins. A table next to us got a full explanation of their food from their server, a sign of a good restaurant, however we didn't - that is fine but be consistent and don't try to be something you are not! I told our server I had overheard and thought it was a lovely touch and she said in our case she had been too busy to tell us!!!! There were 3 tables occupied at the time. This made me feel quite uncomfortable as although we have children, they are well behaved and used to fine dining. My initial drinks order had been forgotten and tea was served stewed and cold. I think this could have been a much nicer experience but maybe we were just unlucky and the restaurant is good enough for a nice meal in a recreation area but if you are looking for fine dining the food may be passable but the service is lacking.

I'm not exactly sure what clientèle this restaurant is attempting to cater for - with it being set in the middle of an amazing outdoor activity centre. We had a lovely meal however, felt the staff dealt with us dining with 2 children a little differently from other customers - albeit we were in walking atire! Maybe they should set a dress code if lunch isn't open to all. I felt like they were advertising a 5 star restaurant with 5 star food with only 3 star staff. Quite a shame really they cannot pull it off as it is quite a pleasant location, and just because we have children they are well behaved and we do enjoy a nice meal.

The site of the gaddum is a delight, overlooking lake WIndermere. Internally it is thoughtfully appointed and well researched. Whilst the food was overly complex for my personal taste, the menu is interesting and diverse and there is certainly enough choice. The huge plus during our Sunday lunch visit was the attentiveness of the staff, those on view and in immediate attendance being Katie and Abigail. During a busy lunch service their professionalism was exemplorary, advising us and the other diners of the various options available. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you very much ladies.

We visited on Saturday for Afternoon tea Staff as always very friendly food was very good and they accommodated our dislike of nuts well. The Ladies had a large glass of Prosecco with theirs which they enjoyed. Tea was topped up as we required free as well.

We ate here today and the food was excellent! We ate from the three course menu and weren't disappointed! The Gaddum is fantastic value for money considering the high quality experience you'll receive. The decor is beautiful. It's country meets Gatsby chic with an open log fire, ornate crystal glasses, William morris wall paper and the 1930s Gatsby-esque piano. The main takeaway however is the view over the lake. You could sit and watch the world go by for hours sat on the balcony outside. The staff were exceptional as well and really went above and beyond, thanks especially to Katie for her help in renewing our driving ticket for us! Was the perfect start tp our holiday!

We visited very recently for the set lunch, there are around 3-4 choices of starters/mains & deserts. These are made with local & homegrown ingredients from the estate and with a period but modern feel, which is in keeping with the building which has recently been restored to a very high standard. I believe the menu will change seasonally, so I will be keeping my eyes peeled for latest menus. The quality & effort that goes into these complex dishes cannot be underestimated for the price. If you want to try a fine dining experience at low cost, then this is a must.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was lovely and good value for money. We sat outside which is a great little sun trap for those rare sunny days in the Lake District. We would high recommend and we will definitely be back .

An impromptu choice to visit Plato's today and what a brilliant decision and choice. We had a really superb meal and were made to feel very welcome by Ronnie, who looked after us! We had the fish finger sourdough sandwich and the chicken and paprika mayo sandwich...accompanied by parmesan and truffle chips 🍟 😋 absolutely delicious. All washed down with a delightful glass of rose wine. We will definitely be returning. It was such a great culinary treat.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
