We were a party of 10 for a 7 course Taster menu. The venue is stunning and the restaurant is a lovely size so still feels cosy. The food is out of this world from.presentation to taste sensation. The staff are friendly and welcoming and highly professional. We will be back in a heartbeat as this venue is outstanding.

First time visit here for an overnight stay and the full 8 course. Lovely staff for the most part, very welcoming and polite just what you want really and the little intro tour was great. The cosy room we stayed in was perfectly located in the main house, trying to get it to a comfortable temperature was a challenge so it wasnt boiling. The window kind of helped. Also the TV channels in the room, what's going on there that the basics dont even work? The meal was very good after being well versed in fine dining. The usual extra bits of snacks and well explained. I did find the standard of some explanations differ depending who served us, some with more gusto than others who were more on the basic side. That's where the star is missing for me, it needs to be excellent service, but also consistent ! Really enjoyed Robert the sommelier with our pairing wines, great knowledge and stories. Most of the dishes were cooked very well, venison lovely and pink. Breakfast was also v good albeit limited. Vegans didnt seem accommodated for and my g/f isnt great with eggs so again a bit problematic there.

We went to Hipping Hall for our wedding anniversary and could not have been more impressed with the food. Everything was a delight from the first bite to the last. However, the highlight of our evening were the fantastic waiting staff and in particular the Sommelier Robert Platt. Robert was hugely knowledgeable and gave fantastic suggestions for wine, take his advice! We had a wonderful meal.

This place has been on my list for awhile, and thankfully were able to slip a lunch in on our way back home from the lakes to sheffield. First, the location is beautiful. The hall itself is a gorgeous building and we were received with smiling friendly staff. The food… just incredible. Subtle flavours that were perfectly balanced. Each course was an adventure. I didn’t have the listed dessert of strawberry (cos I hate them) but they managed to magic up some incredible cherry affair that was simply the best thing I have ever tasted. This place should be on your list if you like food. Beautifully cooked and well presented. We will be back! Next time to stay being that the rooms look incredible. I recommend strongly.

Had a good weekend here and enjoyed our stay. The quality and presentation of the food was extremely good. Often unusual pairings, but generally of very high quality and exquisitely prepared. The current staffing situation is evidently an area of concern and strain, as it is in so many places, however, the prices charged do not reflect this, no matter how obvious to the customer. We had two large rooms in the main house (we were hoping for the modern ones in the stables) although we felt they are in dire need of some refurbishment (tvs and phones not in working order, bathrooms and the heating system needing maintenance). The grounds are very attractive, neat and spacious but there is considerable road noise for rooms at the front and kitchen/service/extraction noise and smells for rooms at the rear of the building. Hopefully a speedy resolution of the staffing problems will help to alleviate some of these current difficulties.

The luncheon was simply delicious, with delightful Amuse-bouches to start with pre-lunch drinks. Everything we had was delicate and flavours that surprised occasionally. The halibut with St Austell mussles was my personally favourite... but it was hard to choose. Absolutely outstanding! 5 stars for food. However, this is a 4 star review because although I could put my finger on it, something didn't feel quite right 'front of house' - it didn't spoil the lunch at all but standards of exactly who's job is who's and housekeeping need attention.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a family celebration and had a wonderful time. We booked cosy rooms and I anticipated tiny accommodation but the rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean with fabulous comfortable beds. One of our rooms was on two levels and had a little downstairs seating area which was great for us to meet up in. A very thoughtful touch and one we hadn't requested. This was our adult children's first experience of fine dining and they were blown away by the quality of the food. Whilst clearly understaffed, the service was great, friendly and relaxed but knowledgable. We had the tasting menu one evening and the four course menu the second. Both were really memorable. Like everywhere else, covid has caused problems for them but the staff are doing their best to overcome it. I read a few reviews on this site in which people were unhappy about the value for money aspect. Yes it's true that it's not perfect (some cracked tiles in our bathroom, underfloor heating not working in some areas in our daughter's) but honestly, in my opinion, if you can afford to come and stay here, you can afford to cut them a little slack considering what it's been like over the past two years. Great location; we went to the White Scar Cave, Ingleton Waterfalls Walk and Kirby Lonsdale Brewery during storm Eunice and coming back to huge hot baths, fresh milk for in-room drinks was great. The enthusiasm of the front of house staff and the technical expertise in the kitchen make this a winning combination - not a bit stuffy and a great experience.

went to this restaurant with rooms for a special occasion and was not disappointed. The rooms were very comfy and the food was amazing especially so since it was the first evening for the new chef Peter Howarth. Of the 14 courses we had including breakfasts there was only one we did not enjoy (hake with razor clam) but that was probably our taste. Food very creative and well presented and although small portions we never left hungry. Expensive but it was something special.

I wanted to book a meal in the restaurant after seeing such good reviews on the food. Due to Covid I was told I would be put on a waiting list as hotel guests get the first option for tables, which is completely understandable! However the confusion came when I was then asked what time I wanted to eat and how many people would be eating. However I ignored this and expected to hear back from them whether or not I could have the table. I received a call on the same day of the date I asked for in the afternoon by a member of staff named “George” stating I was booked in and asking if I was still attending in the evening. Out of confusion I mistook this for another restaurant I had booked due to not hearing anything back until now about the table. George then took this as an opportunity to tell me “Well you’ve booked somewhere else now so it doesn’t matter”.I stated that I would happily eat at hipping hall and not the other place because I really wanted to eat there. George then was incredibly rude and went on the defence how he couldn’t facilitate a table for me now, even though at the start of the call he clearly stated I was booked in and if I was attending! I was left no option to continue with this booking, however was just given poor attitude! Shocked by this call and on reflection, I rang up again in attempt to complain about this, I was told I was speaking to a manager on the phone, as the lady enquired about it, she came back to me and told I was booked in, I then complained about George’s attitude to the “manager”. She then put the phone down and when the phone was picked up again, it was George! He then persisted to complain how “staff here have booked you in when they shouldn’t have” and how “staff have left here after a week of working here, we had a table of 6 arrive the other day because someone had booked them in without telling me” and “you didn’t even know about the booking until I called so it shouldn’t even matter because you’re booked in somewhere else” If this is a 5 star hotel/Michelin restaurant then I’m shocked, rude staff all around, poor management and no organisation around bookings. Leaves no surprise to why staff leave after a week, with how they treat potential customers and customers, I’m glad I didn’t spend money on this place. Will not be attempting to book here again.

Staff member George (supposed manager) was incredibly rude and unprofessional on the phone, despite the mountains of good reviews I would not want to give my money to the place based on the lack of respect and poor attitude of the staff in this establishment, The quality of the food and the hotel would not make up for how the staff handle you as a customer. He divulged the high turn over of staff leaving after one week, if I’m honest I’m not surprised if this is how they treat the customers.I would recommend other places in area which are just as good, with lovely staff who can’t do enough for you, if you want to avoid dinner with an atmosphere. Will not attempt to book here again

As a lover of The Trip and Masterchef it seemed a no brainier to book Hipping hall, for a rare opportunity for a night away - with out the kids! From start to finish my wife and I found the whole experience an absolute delight, from the moment we walked in to a warm and friendly welcome from the front of house staff, to the moment I slammed the car door shut and we drove off on our merry way.The room was fantastic, the shower was a particular highlight! No three jet lukewarm trickle here! Hot and powerful...proper stuff. Bed large and the linen crisp. We sampled the tasting menu which was simply superb. The fact that several of the courses were brought out by the cheffing team, accompanied by an insightful description was a fabulous touch. And as Oli approached our table bearing the latest course we were genuinely thrilled! We opted for the additional baked Camembert which we enjoyed in the relaxed bar area with a drink on completion of the tasting menu.... seemed rude not to!! Indulgence at its finest!I can’t speak highly enough about the whole experience at this wonderful establishment - with its fabulous food, head chef and attentive front of house staff is only missing one thing...one of those shiny little stars from Michelin. In my opinion though it’s overdue and only a matter of time!!

The restaurant has recently re-opened and they are trying but haven't quite got it right yet. We went for pre-dinner drinks, some dinners where given wine lists we weren't. When we asked for one they picked it up from another table and gave it to use, no wipe down at all.The food itself was very good but the service a bit lacking mainly due to too few staff, the two waiters were working very hard. Clearly they needed three. Strange that they brought three starters together (to save visits to the table) but collected each empty dish individually. Same thing with the deserts.Hopefully they will fine things as the kitchen is very good.I would still recommend a visit

We went back to Hipping Hall as our first choice of place to go for a weekend after four months of going nowhere. It did not disappoint. The food is fabulous Michelin quality without the irksome pretentiousness of Michelin style service. Staff are friendly but not obsequious and thankfully no one offers to escort you to the washroom. It’s set in an idyllic location ideal for walking off the exquisite dinner and hearty breakfast. It is expensive but less so than some places with food not half so good. Ideal place for big treat.

Worth the drive from Preston in the wind and rain. Lovely country hotel - though it’s signing could be improved as we drove past it! - it would be even nicer in a clear sunny day. Friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Small lounge / bar area with nice fire to sit by with a drink whilst deciding on whether to have the 4/6 course menu! As we’d not been we before and were unsure of portion size we opted for the 4 courses though on reflection I’m sure I’d have been able to fit in the 6 as the food was delicious. Portion sizes were p, in my view, suitable; having been to Michelin star restaurants before I think the only difference was no canapé / amuse Bouche prior to lunch (though you could argue that the butter pie was just that) and no petit four with the tea / coffee or perhaps they just don’t want the pressure a Michelin star brings? the food is just as good as Northcote etc. Anyway all courses excellent - I loved the cod, chicken and rhubarb dishes, home made bread and butter also good. I opted for the £20 wine flight which comprised of 2 small (maybe less than 125 ml) glasses and a desert wine. All in all I’d go again. £118 (which included the service charge) for 2 4 course lunches, 1 wine flight, 1 glass of white wine, 1 G&T, 1 coke area and a tea and coffee.

We had the six course tasting menu as a special lunch treat for my wife - and what a treat it was. Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, outstanding service and excellent attention to detail. The main restaurant dates back to 1688, and you get a real feel of the history of the hall, but the food, each course brought to your table, and explained, by the really knowledgable team, is modern, fresh, local and absolutely exceptional. It was difficult to pick out one favourite, the Butter Pie is a treat for both the eye and the mouth, I’m not a fish lover but really enjoyed the trout and the cod with prawn sauce. However the beef really stood out, and the toasted oak, a damson ice cream dish, was delicious and the Pine Apple was a superb tour de force. However - as I don’t eat mushrooms, my wife’s hen of the woods was replaced for me with a potatoes dish which showed off the team’s skills.Having eaten at a number of starred restaurants, this is So deserving of a Michelin star - could not fault it from start to finish.

My husband and I booked to eat here on their 7 course tasting lunch. We have taken part in many tasting meals both around the Lake District and the UK, so naturally we were excited to try Hipping Hall as we have never been. We received a very warm welcome from what seemed the restaurant manager, and shown to a table in a lovely intimate dining room. The food was delicious, each course well thought out, presented to a high standard and melted in your mouth. However there are two factors for us that really let Hipping Hall down. The first one being, although the food was delicious, when we came to the end of the 7 courses neither my husband or I felt adequately 'full'. Now by all means we understand a tasting menu, however we felt these portions sizes were taking it too far, tasty but minuscule . Now for what really put a dampener on our whole experience. The waiter. Never in our lives have we been made to feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome whilst in a reauatuant setting. He was rude and obnoxious without uttering more than a mouthful of words as us, as that's exactly our issue - we only received grunts, nods and huffs! Not even a conversation when he cleared our plates, or we ordered more drinks. We thought that either he really despises his work, or he has brought an attitude with him to work which really should be left at home. What got to us even more is when further tables entered the restaurant he completely changed his tune when serving some of them, chatty, friendly, the way hospitality should be. We felt completely victimised and he really did let himself, the team and what should have been a lovely, warm and intimate dining experience dow . All in all we wont be rushing back here. We found that The Forest Side is their sister hotel, we have stayed here on numerous occasions and can only sing their praises. We suggest the whole team at Hipping Hall take note of how The Forset Side do things, they really put you to shame.

A friend told us about Hipping Hall and we’re very glad he did. Our stable room was nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed and the staff gave us a warm welcome from the moment we arrived. The tasting menu was as good as many one-star restaurants we’ve been to and that was combined with very friendly but still professional service from all the waiters and chefs, many of the latter who came out to serve the food they had been cooking. The intensity of flavour in some of the dishes was very impressive and the use of some routine ingredients taking them to a higher flavour level than would normally be expected from them was noteworthy. All in all, somewhere we’d be happy to visit again and, as others have said, the Michelin man should surely be paying this place a bit more attention.

My wife and I booked the bed, breakfast and tasting menu offer which is excellent value for money. It was our 4th visit to Hipping Hall and yet again the quality of the accommodation, the standard of the food and the excellent staff did not disappoint. This was our second stay in a Stable room and once again we could not fault it. The bed was fantastically comfortable, the bathroom modern and the bedroom beautifully decorated and well heated. The evening tasting menu was sublime and made more special that the chefs, including the Head Chef Oli Martin served some of the courses. We opted for the accompanying wine flight and this worked really well with the food and was expertly described by Gabriel! The only issues which let our stay down occurred at breakfast. The food choices are very limited, indeed fresh fruit was not even available! In addition, we were not offered toast, despite there being butter, jam and marmalade on our table. Also missing from our table were the usual condiments of salt and pepper! I also had to ask for brown sauce to accompany my full English breakfast. These points whilst relatively minor, really did detract from what was another wonderful stay at Hipping Hall.Hopefully management will take on our comments and act upon them, as this hotel is too good to be let down by these minor but important points!

I stayed overnight with my husband in order to enjoy the 11 course tasting menu served with a very nice white house wine. Every course was art on a plate and each dish was met with sounds of ecstasy from us as we savoured the sometimes delicate herbs in the dish, or the tastes of the forest or the spicy notes in other dishes. I thought the small portions wouldn't satisfy our hunger but I was surrendering by the end of the meal. The chefs, including the head chef, Oli Martin, all came out to describe the dishes they served and the General Manager, George, was very friendly and amusing. We felt very welcome indeed and can only describe the whole experience as a delightful evening of the nicest food we have ever tasted, in the setting of the great hall, looked after by charming staff and chefs. I find I can now only eat food that is decorated with pretty miniature flowers as I have been thoroughly spoiled at Hipping Hall. Our twin room was in the main hall and was perfectly adequate with a modern ensuite shower room and extremely comfortable beds. We looked at the Stable Rooms and Cottages which looked very smart and would possible stay in one of these next time we decide to treat ourselves.

I first wanted to eat at Hipping Hall back in the late Noughties. I used to contribute to a restaurant discussion forum and folk were always going on about the food and the then chef. But he left before I got there, and later reports were that the place had “gone off”. So it faded from memory. Fast forward to a few backs back and I was flicking through the new edition of the Good Food Guide and thought “I’m sure the chef there was on Professional Masterchef”. Which is how we came to be eating Oli Martin’s food.

Our second visit to Hipping Hall was just as good as the first. The tasting menu was excellent. It possibly took a little too long to deliver. Three hours. It was clear that several tables were being delayed so that they could roll out the 'main course' - lamb - at the same time for all. That course nevertheless stood out with the chef resisting the temptation of including a taste of shepherd's pie.

Four of us had the tasting menu on the evening of Saturday 27 July. It featured 11 superbly executed courses, all with excellent, well thought out flavour combinations. Definitely on a par with Michelin star establishments. The 5 glass wine flight was also extremely good, featuring some off the beaten track wines. Atmosphere wise, it’s comfortable country house hotel territory with the 17th century gable ceiling hall which houses the restaurant being a lovely place to eat. I had read reviews about service needing some improvement and this is definitely the case as on arrival we were left looking for someone in charge, then clutching coats and umbrella and the bread arrived after the third course. The Maitre D, who has just joined from L’Enclume, volunteered some of the staff are in need of skilling up. However, this was all minor stuff and shouldn’t put you off. At £70 for food and £40 for the wine flight this definitely one of the best value for money meals I have had.

Having heard so much about the restaurant (and as we were staying nearby in Kirkby Lonsdale), we thought it was time to pay it a visit. The place was not quite what you would expect. The restaurant areas themselves were smaller than I had anticipated, and appeared to be arranged in a staccato fashion. However, this is not a criticism, as it added to the charm of the place.

Made a note of this place when their head chef Oli Martin was on MasterChef. Finally got round to booking a stay for my husbands birthday. What a fabulous night. Everything was perfect from check in, the beautiful stable room and overall service

Some very good friends took us to Hipping Hall for the first time this week to celebrate our golden wedding The grounds were beautifully tended and the building has obviously been renovated tastefully and in tune with its past. We were greeted warmly but professionally and shown to the lounge to enjoy a pre lunch aperitif

We have visited Hipping Hall regularly over the years and this was our opportunity to sample the new style menu. We stayed in a stables room and this was luxuriously appointed with our own private patio. The staff were friendly and welcoming and our waiting staff were excellent - friendly and not overly formal. The food was a delight and there were no disappointments. Each course was well thought out, presented to perfection and flavoursome. A wide range of wines to suit all pockets. The breakfast also was also top quality. A definite return visit is the order of the day.

We had stayed at Hipping Hall a number o& years ago and decided to return with friends for an overnight stay and to sample Ollies food.We were made most welcome from the moment we arrived and our rooms were all comfortable and nicely furnished. The bar area is relaxed and drinks were quickly served undoubtedly though the 11 course taster menu was the star of our experience. It really was quite exceptional so much work on achieving both elegant presentation but more importantly flavours wow ! We had a great night and breakfast fuelledus for a walk in the dales.Thank you to all at Hipping Hall

We stayed at Forest side a sister hotel the night before and were disappointed so weren’t sure what to expect as this restaurant doesn’t have a Michelin star. How wrong we were. From the initial greeting at reception to when we left this morning the whole experience was exceptional. What a talented Chef they have in Oli Martin whose enthusiasm for what he does rubs off on his team. A member of the kitchen staff serve each course to you and they are clearly proud of what they do and so they should be. We had a chat with Oli and he is certainly a very nice grounded young man who I think will go to the very top of the industry and in my opinion deserves a Michelin star now. The highlights included the Butter pie, Eggy bread, the North Atlantic Cod which was exceptional and the Pine-Apple. The whole experience was fantastic I thoroughly recommend.

Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. First impression as you go up the drive is good. We were shown into a waiting room where we were offered drinks and time to peruse the menu. We decided on the four course set menu. Drinks were a little on the expensive side and it worked out better to buy a bottle of rose rather than 2 large glasses. the dining are was well set out with plenty of room between tables. Service was excellent throughout. Each course was announced/described and looked a picture. (I still don't understand why small portions need such large plates? ) Portion size was my only slight negative on this visit, but if you're used to "masterchef" you'll know what to expect. Overall a very enjoyable tasty meal and I'm sure we'll be back.

We followed Ollie on Masterchef and just had to visit to try his food. Our friend's 80th was a good reason to visit. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, the service was great. The venue is very attractive with lovely gardens. More important was that the food was truly amazing. We had the 4 course lunch, which was very tasty and well balanced. Nice wines too.

We've eaten in a lot of Michelin star restaurants, including 2 star establishments and having seen Oli on Masterchef, we decided it would be worth the 3 hour round trip to try his food. The food was definitely worth it but I was disappointed with some aspects of front of house and I feel this will stop them from getting a star.

Having eaten in many of the countries best restaurants. I cannot believe that HH has not received a Michelin star. We went as a family on Saturday lunchtime, two boys aged 9 and 7. We were all made to feel very welcome. The food and service were both amazing, in particular the “ eggy bread” and “ pineapple” were amazing. Our boys got to meet The head chef, Ollie! And left with a signed menu. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

Coming back to Hipping is always a delight, with helpful and friendly staff and amazing food! We had the tasting menu, 12 delicious courses and a wine package (optional). Highly recommend the tasting menu as there are many different meats, flavours and condiments to try. The dishes are always explained to the customers and staff are always extremely helpful when asking questions about the food! The layout of the restaurant and lounge is absolutely exquisite, neat, clean and tidy! One of the chefs came to greet us and introduce himself which I thought was excellent! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a meal! Not sure on a dress code, but no one wore jeans or trainers any time I visited.

I have been fortunate enough to dine in many of the best restaurants in the UK and this chef (Oli Martin) is up there with the Michelin names – I just wasn’t expecting it to be so good! We had the shorter tasting menu and all the courses were either very good or excellent. It is unusual get such consistency across all courses but this kitchen pulled it off. Great variety, wonderful flavours and inventive combinations. The meal was helped by the impressive dining room setting, very good wine selection and excellent service – friendly, knowledgeable & professional. For us it was the perfect evening and we will return. Well done Oli & team – a Michelin star cannot be far off.

We stayed at the hotel, and it was my wife’s birthday so were looking forward to a lovely 5 Course meal. We have eaten here before, but this evening surpassed our previous experiences. All the food was amazing and each course were bursting with so many lovely flavours, and my wife felt really special when they presented us with an extra dessert with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate, nothing is to much trouble. The atmosphere in the Tudor hall is so amazing and the staff are friendly with an efficient attention to detail which they bring through obviously being well trained.

We were slightly tentative beforehand about some of the courses on the tasting menu as they were not things that we would normally have chosen. But they all turned out to be really tasty. The dining room was lovely and the staff were excellent. The only thing was, at the end of the meal we were still quite hungry. We've been to a few restaurants offering tasting menus in the past, but we've never still felt hungry at the end before.

I canNOT believe that Oli Martin has not received a Michelin star yet! We have just spent the evening eating the most delicious food at Hipping Hall. Eight courses of fabulousness. Elegant, light, beautiful, perfectly executed, well-balanced and above all scrumptious food. I can’t recommend this wonderful restaurant, which celebrates and supports local artisans and producers, too highly. The Isle of Wight tomato dish was the most mouth-watering thing I have ever experienced. Everything ran like a well-oiled machine and yet it felt relaxed and just the right side of formal. Just brilliant.

This was our second on visit to Hipping Hall for lunch and we weren't disappointed. Staff remembered us and made us very welcome; and the service was relaxed but attentive. Our (Spanish) waitress was just lovely. The four course lunch is creative in terms of ingredients; and beautifully presented but don't expect large portions or "meat and two veg". The home made bread with home made butter is worth going for in itself. At £25 (web special price) per head, we thought the meal good value and will definately go back.

Let me begin by saying that the food here is excellent. Our 5 course tasting menu with wine matching was exquisite (and actually much more than 5 courses when a couple of amuse-bouches, a cheese board and a pre-desert were added). The staff too were very good, especially the Polish waiter/somelier who added humour to excellent service....

Good food but minute portions. We left hungry. The atmosphere was completely sterile and comparable to eating in a morgue. Totally pompous. Our waiter addressed us as ‘boys’ which was presumably because we dared converse at an audible level, rather than maintain the deathly silence. Very reminiscent of faulty towers on a rainy day. The red wine was so dry it had to washed down with water. Save your money for better venue

Faultless service. The delightful dining room was somewhat chilly as it was a cold February day. Four tiny courses each barely covering the centre of a large dinner plate. I had the vegetarian option. Interesting! The homemade bread and butter was delicious and was the highlight of the meal for me. Unfortunately although I enjoyed the experience whilst there, once home I had a stomach upset so some ingredient used did not agree with me. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her meal.

My wife and I visited Hipping Hall for Sunday lunch. Having not been for several years it was pleasing to see that the hotel has not stood still. The Old Stables have now been renovated to a high standard. This is not a venue for a traditional Sunday lunch with Beef, Yorkshire pudding etc. Instead on offer is a Fine Dining experience supported by friendly but efficient service. Every course was beautifully presented with fantastic flavours. The manager was very accommodating in swapping two of the courses for my wife. This meal presented excellent value at £29.50 including tea or coffee. We will definitely be returning soon.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

The following is an email I have sent to the cafe. After the below incident we did go back after our boat trip and had a pleasant experience, the other staff were polite, the food was good and the service was prompt… Just hope you don’t end up being served by the resident Vicky Pollard waitress that works there. Luckily there was no sign of her when we returned for lunch, she was probably in the back sharpening her tongue. She totally lets the place down, my stars would have been a lot higher if it wasn’t for that socially inept plebe… management can you be careful who you are hiring?! Hello, We have just now visited your cafe on our way to catch a boat and we wandered into the cafe thinking we’ll have a look to come back and have bite to eat later and to ask where we book for the boat. Obviously we knew we wouldn’t be booking from the cafe but we were lost and looking for directions. I politely said excuse me to one of the waiting staff, a young slim female, and then said do you know where reception for booking the boat is. She looked at me with an angry disgusted expression on her face before abruptly snapping “what!!” She was like Vikki Pollard. I repeated my question and she again very ignorantly said “I don’t know!! We’ve got nothing to do with boats!! We’re a cafe! She then put her nose in the air, turned and walked away from me. Luckily there was a man behind us who heard the whole thing and happened to be the person responsible for the boat we were to catch. He informed us. I’ve worked in hospitality and attractions for decades at a senior level, I was disgusted at her behaviour and attitude, what an embarrassment, as a manager I certainly would not tolerate that, there was absolutely no need for it, she could have just politely said sorry I’m not sure, and directed me else where. Can I suggest you ensure your staff have at least some communication skills and customer service skills or at least learn some basic manners. She was acting like she’d been dragged up!!
