Trof - Northern Quarter in Manchester

I booked the function room here (on the top floor) for my 30th and would 100% recommend to others. It was easy to book, staff were really friendly and helpful, room had a great setup with a projector and music. Good menu for food and drinks. Deposit was £100 but redeemable on drinks (other places I looked at were more than this and non redeemable). Also dog friendly. Hopefully you are still around for my 40th!

Wow amazing place!!! Highly recommend. I had the roast lamb and my partner had the roast chicken and we both said it was the best roast we'd ever had. Cannot fault it!! 10/10

Chicken burger on a par with KFC, tasteless - gone downhill in last couple years

My sister and I + our dog came here yesterday (08/03/25) I found Trof after googling "dog friendly restaurants in Manchester" and the menu immediately appealed to my sister and I. We booked a table for 4:45 and showed up a couple of minutes before, we were immediately taken to our table and our dog was even allowed on the chair which was really nice. For starters we ordered the crispy potatoes + the cheese & leek croquettes. When the starters came out they accidentally gave us Korean Chicken instead of the croquettes and when I told them this they let us keep the Korean Chicken for free! The crispy potatoes were utterly amazing, super crunchy and the sauce on top was perfect. The Korean Chicken while too spicy for my sister & I it had a crispy coating with a soft inside. My cheese & leek croquettes were the best out of the starters, absolutely covered in cheese on top and the inside was gooey and unctous. For mains my sister ordered the cheeseburger while I went with the half chicken. My sister really enjoyed her cheeseburger. My half chicken was so incredibly filling, the chicken itself was tender and the gravy was the perfect accompaniment to it; only slight downsides were the chips/fries aren't anything special here (they're decent don't get me wrong just not amazing) and my chicken could've done with more seasoning (it wasn't bland or tasteless by any means just needed a little extra oomph) Everyone was incredibly nice at Trof, they're all a credit to the business. The inside was really warm and inviting and clean too. We are definitely coming back!

An oldie but a goodie. Early Sunday morning breakfast with the whole family, so it was quiet, we basically had the place to ourselves. Very decent breakfast dishes. Service was on point. Strong recommendation. ♡♡♡

I booked the upstairs room for a function of about 40 people, with a Trof buffet, for a work celebration for my 60th, with some invitees from a company that we work with in London. I never really do Google reviews, but the everything was so excellent I really wanted to. The team there are amazing...they look after you so well. The room is lovely with character and super atmosphere. The bar service was brilliant...and even the glasses for white wine came out of the fridge, the wine coolers had ice....little things, but I loved that attention to detail. You can play your own music, although I used their playlist. The buffet was super. The pre event communications were perfect. I can't recommend Trof highly enough for a function of this size. Massive thank you to the team, and every success for the future.

This is a place to seek out if you haven’t as the food and service is really good. You need to book though as it gets very busy. The food isn’t far off a five star (although the crispy pork Sunday roast was a bit disappointing this time - the meat was tough and loads of fat - but that may have been a one off) and the atmosphere would be better if tables weren’t so cramped together. Still highly recommended though.

A really great little find. Sunday morning and it was busy, this says it all. Only had a coffee, but it was one of the nicest coffees I've ever had. We asked the lad what coffee it was and he went to find out and gave us as much info as possible. Found it on the internet & bought some. Really nice place

Followed tons of good reviews, but honestly disappointed. We ordered avo with toasted and basic breakfast plate. It took us ALMOST ONE HOUR for these two dishes. The taste was not what I expected, sad! Not that tasty. Also we did not get what we added on into our dish. We need to remind the staff again (after waiting for almost an hour). Again, not worth waiting such a long time.

I want sure what to expect when booking a table here, but it exceeded any expectations I had. The food was sensational quality and staff could not have been more helpful. Happy to recommend.

Hosted a successful 'friendsmas' celebration of 13 people in Trof's private dining room at the top of the building in December. Everything from booking the room to paying at the end of the night was seamless and we couldn't have been more happy with the experience we had. Having the room booked for 2.5 hrs, we were able to use the facilities to host a Christmas quiz with our group and play our own music through their sound system which was a bonus. All of us were impressed by the attentiveness of the staff and the amazing food we were served. Some of our group had dietary requirements which they were more than happy to accommodate. Special food mentions go to baileys tiramisu and the Christmas dinner roast potatoes.

Brought my parents here the other week and had an amazing evening with well-priced, tasty food and drinks. The space is a little tight with chairs, but the servers were knowledgeable and friendly, and I'll definitely be coming back for more pub classics

Had a lovely chilled afternoon in Trof Manchester today 18/01/25 Mat C, the lovely girl behind the bar and lovely beanie hat boy looked after us so well. Service was impeccable efficient without being intrusive. The Caesar Salad was to die for and the French Martinis and Brambles were some of the best we've tasted Thanks again for looking after us on what appeared to be an exceptionally busy Saturday afternoon. We had breakfast and took a full English breakfast and a full veggie breakfast; I found one better than the other. The service was quick and precise and even if there were some difficulties with the language the waitress was willing to repeat and make herself understood

Ordered a few drinks and some fried chicken and chips. Fried chicken were too salty for me liking but good food and drinks overall.

- crispy pork £19 - topside beef £20 following trof’s many positive reviews and even claims it is the best roast in the city, i had high expectations. it is recommended to book especially for its sunday roast; we came as a spontaneous walk-in but we were seated quickly within 10 mins. the rustic candlelit vibes made it very cosy but it is a tight squeeze and the tables were tiny so it was a struggle to eat a roast out of all things. moving onto the food, the meat portion was generous but there were not enough of the sides to pair with it especially the potatoes which there were only 3 of. i would say the pork was better than beef but that is typically my preference anyways! the gravy was flavourful and a good consistency (no water gravy here) but they serve it poured on which made the potatoes soggy. other than the gravy, i found the roast quite bland and plain as i kept having to add salt + pepper often which i never usually do. i wanted to try their sticky toffee pudding but they were sold out already at 5pm alongside the lamb and even the cauliflower cheese by the time we left.

We went here for an early Xmas dinner thinking it was going to be amazing from the reviews. First of all... the place was freezing. We were all sat there dithering. We said to the waitress the place was really cold and she said 'I know' ! She did however go and ask for some heating to be put on We ordered off the Xmas menu then 10 minutes later they came back and said we couldn't have it because we hadn't pre ordered and the Xmas menu was only given to us for the drinks (we'd told them why we were going on booking and weren't told we had to pre order) All the time this was going on we still hadn't received our drinks we'd ordered 25 mins prior. We all ended up ordering starters and Sunday roast. It took 45 minutes for the starters to come and a further 20 minutes for the main. The 'pink' beef was far from pink but tough and well done. The 'crispy' pork did not have an ounce of crisp to it. Yorkies were flat and burnt and the veg bland. We left very disappointed and won't be returning. There are far superior places to visit

Good food poor service, our waitress went on her break through our dinner and no one really filled in . A mistake with the bill twice ,we pointed out there was no drinks on it ,it still came back wrong . Been here before usually very good . Didn't tip as not good service

Manchester is a great place to go for night out and is safe

Called in for a pre-gig drink early doors, and it was busy. Always a nice pint. Lots of choices, beers, wines, and spirits. Cocktails are available, too. Food is very nice and reasonably priced. (Best to book a table) Toilets are like being in spoons, but that can't be helped for the age of the building. One of the iconic NQ pubs.

Great Sunday dinner for 5,pork was fantastic,could of had more chicken,also beef was good, but once again portions could do with being bigger.

Would easily say top 3 roasts in Manchester, everything was perfect! They were extremely busy on the day we were booked in (and you can understand why!) but the vibe was great, staff were attentive enough but also were not on our backs to get the table back. It was super relaxed and perfect for a Sunday night! Only problem that there was no cauli cheese, serves us right for booking at 6pm! (Will defo book again soon and earlier!!)

WOW WOW WOW - Trof is simply amazing. a wonderful place to eat, drink, relax & generally chill. Huge amounts of choice to drink, every imaginable thirst quenching tipple will be covered. The food was top class, fresh ingredients, excellently cooked & beautifully presented. The place as a great, casual friendly vide & the service is professional with a huge dollop of smiles & chit chat - a brilliant place to visit whenever you are in Manchester

Very nice staff. I’d recommend booking if not just staying for a drink as it was tight on a Saturday afternoon. Food menu is well selected and there were a few veggie and vegan options too.

I chose to have a Sunday dinner here because it was rated on the top 10 best Sunday roast in Manchester. Lovely ambience and staff were lovely. I think I expected it to be amazing but it was just ok, Veggies and gravy were nice but the meat was stringy and cauliflower cheese wasn’t that great at all. Expensive compared to other places for a roast dinner so not somewhere I will return.

Nice bar with lots of seating across many floors - was still super-busy on a Wednesday. Ordered the fish 'n chips - disappointingly a little soggy (both the battered fish, and the chips)

I decided to book here for a Sunday roast for my boyfriend and I, as we were staying in a hotel nearby. All of the reviews said how lovely the food was so we were really looking forward to it We arrived about 5-10mins early and got ourselves a drink by the bar before our table was ready. Once it was, we were shown to our table and our food order was taken. I had the chicken roast, and my boyfriend had the beef, we decided to share a cauliflower cheese also. We didn't have too long to wait before our meals arrived and everything looked so good. As soon as we tucked in, we didn't say a work to each other for the rest of the meal- we didn't want to stop eating! Everything was so gorgeous. We were checked upon by a waiter and we requested some more gravy, which arrived shortly after. The waiter was genuinely really lovely and the food was the best Sunday roast we've had the pleasure to have. We'll make sure to visit again!

I’d organised a meeting here with up to 18 work colleagues from about 5.30pm but got here 4.15 with a friend, we ordered a couple of drinks in the downstairs bar and decided to explore the other two floors, there’s a small open air seating area on the next floor and a nice big room with a well stocked bar. After 6 I was glad to see another 4 work mates arrive and we all had some food, me just triple cooked chips which although tasty were a bit greasy for my liking but I heard the burgers were delicious. There’s a happy hour from 4-9 but this didn’t include bottles just cocktails and pints but it’s a very good deal for the city centre. TROF is nice, bare wooden floors, bare brick walls and friendly staff, it’s hard to stand out from the endless bars on Thomas St but TROF does a very good job. I’m sure it gets hammered after 8 on weekends. I’ll definitely be back.

Decided to catch up with my wife for a late Saturday afternoon drink and bite to eat. Thought we would try the NQ as we rarely go to that end of town. Trof was our choice and they did not disappoint. The wine recommendation was spot on, we had some lovely starters, a salad main for my wife and the fish and chips with side curry sauce for me. All cooked to perfection. My only criticism was that I would have loved the curry to be a little more spicy but that is personal preference. Jacob our server was very friendly and helpful as were the rest of the staff.

Food and drinks were absolutely phenomenal. Portion sizes are so generous for the price, coffee was PERFECT, staff were friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. Try the french toast!! We are tourists in Manchester and we couldn't have found a better spot in this lovely city. Our server Jacob was very friendly and helpful. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a brunch spot!

After spending ages seeking a dog friendly restaurant in Manchester, we found Trof. It was very busy but we were soon seated and being served by Megan. Megan was very friendly and efficient and we had our drinks in no time! A good by the glass wine list, well stocked bar and great menu. We both had the steak frites which was done to pink perfection. Crisp frites and a delicious leaf salad with orange dressing that really complemented the tender steak. Everything was perfectly seasoned; delicious. Oscar our Cockerpoo cross, happily sat under the table but enjoyed an ear tickle from Megan. Lovely little venue. Truly dog friendly (we were not the only dog in the bar) and very welcoming. Thanks Megan!

They recommended it to us for their Sunday Roast, which they cook with the typical bread called Yorkshire pudding. Highly recommend this puffed bread. However, I have given the food a low rating because the ox, the roast beef, was not of excellent quality. For my taste, it was meaty. I'm not much of a meat person but I love a good roast beef, and this was not the case. For the rest, all good!

Had fish and chips here it was the most discusting plate of fish and chip the chips were soggy and a discusting colour and the piece of fish was unbelievable first it looked incredably over cooked the batter was like cardboard and when cut into there was no fish I have eaten in restaurants all over the world and this was decently the worst meal I have ever eaten any where DISTCUSTING

We just had a quick beer and snack (courgette fritti) but everything was on point, bonus points for the amazing treatment to our dog 🐶

Lovely spot, absolutely brilliant staff couldn't have been more attentive or helpful. Food was great and will happily go back to try it in the evening and some cocktails.

One of the best English breakfasts I’ve ever had.

I haven’t been to this eatery for a long time. When friends have suggested to go to Trof for Sunday lunch because reviews were not bad, we went. Service staff and atmosphere were friendly and nice, sadly I can’t say the same with the food! We all agreed that the gravy was very salty, and it wasn’t served in a jug, it was poured over the roast potatoes, vegetables as well as the meats, it has made the crispy potatoes soggy and the belly pork skin wet and chewy, we thought it was bacon wrapped round the meat! The waitress was very kind to replace it with a fresh piece of pork with the crackling. Sadly, the meat was totally dry and tasteless. I have to say that it was the worst Sunday lunch I have had.

Roast leather anyone?? New chef clearly is more used to making jackets and shoes than he is cooking beef. Our whole table was given a refund because the food was inedible. The poor waiting staff! Devastated, one of the best spots for a roast in manchester has died. The skills in the kitchen belong in mcdonalds, genuinely sad for the owners.
