5 star food, fantastic 3 course Sunday dinner reasonably priced for city centre in a lovely setting

Booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary and use a voucher. What a lovely evening, great food and atmosphere and our waitress, Eboni, was utterly charming and made the evening.

What can I say if you want amazing food and atmosphere and staff that make your feel very welcome this is the place to be at. We opted for the tasting menu with matching wines. It was superb Ebony talked us through each course and explained why the wine was paired with the plate which enhanced the whole experience. Every bite on the plate you wanted more and each plate in my opinion got better as we finished. We will be back again to try the main menu for sure. Well done to everyone involved, it’s a lovely restaurant and service was perfectly timed not rushed. Attention to detail top notch.

Once we found the restaurant as it is tucked away at the back of a casino we found a lovely restaurant with limited but nice food options. Food delicious. Service from Alfie 5 star.

Felt very old fashioned, food was decent and the staff were pleasant and helpful but I felt like I was on a shit cruise ship for the duration of the meal. The atmosphere and decor could do with some updating (background music was dire). The menu was ok, again could really do with a bit of creativity but good if you’re looking for typical English food with a high quality flair.

Came to James Martin, Manchester for a date day. What a special day it was and made extra special by Pavel (our server). He was fantastic and looked after our every need. The food was superb, flavours that I’ve never experienced. Just WOW! Great day, book now, we will be soon…

Great restraunt from the time we walked in, 3 course Sunday Roast was fab and the Sticky toffee pudding was amazing.

Went last nightfor tasting menui have a few allergies chef (Craig ) came to see me and actually altered for me well the food was amazing everything was so well put together I couldn't have asked for anymore to be done so thank Craig.. Alfie was our waiter what a lovely man and described everything perfectly this our 5th visit and can't wait for our 6th

Had a wonderful experience. The food was superb, absolutely cooked to perfection. Our plates were empty at the end of the meal. our waiter Saj, was an absolute delight, he was so nice, relaxed and chatty but totally professional, as was everyone we came into contact with. The ambience was "spot on" Worth every penny. When we can afford it, we will definitely be back Thank you to all for such a wonderful evening.

Visited the restaurant for Sunday lunch in August which was absolutely delicious, the meal was so good we cancelled my dad's 70th birthday dinner reservation at another restaurant so we could celebrate at James Martin Manchester the following week. Alfie was our server on both occasions and he was absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend for an impeccable dining experience.

The table for 12 was booked 7 months ago for a 60th & food was pre-ordered as requested by the restaurant. On arrival there was no one to greet us and all 12 of us stood around for 5 minutes as waiters walked by (it was 6.30 and not busy at all). The waitress was unenthusiastic and unknowledgeable (referring to the ice bucket as “thingymagig”. Service was painfully slow, from drinks to obtaining the bill. Food was mediocre at best & barely warm. The staff were unhelpful when we wanted to split the bill between the 6 couples and one member of staff decided to give us a lecture. The birthday boy is a huge James Martin fan and travelled from Sheffield and was bitterly disappointed.

So very disappointed by this restaurant. We made a reservation for our anniversary and were really looking forward to a lovely meal. Sadly, this was not the case. The menu had changed and the dishes we were looking forward to had been removed from the menu, not the end of the world and we made our choices from the new menu. I ordered a specific gin from the menu, but they had run out of it. Again, a shame but I chose a different drink. Starters came and were nice. Main course came and firstly the 2 members of waiting staff who brought over our meals were unable to tell us what was on the plates, but far worse was the raw, red and cold, duck that was served. It was difficult to cut it, and impossible to chew. The manager told us that the chef said it was meant to be like this. Absolutely inedible, and probably pretty dangerous. We will be reporting this to the food standards agency on Monday. The manager was completely useless and just made excuses. We have never walked out of a restaurant before mid meal but we asked for the bill for the drinks and starters and left hungry, disappointed and concerned that the small amount of duck eaten will make us ill.i really don't recommend going to James Martin Manchester.

Was a amazing experience food was fantastic very tasty,had a taster menu which included lovely wines with each dish.well worth the money. The staff was amazing explaining all dishes and wines could not fault anything. 5star and more.would highly recommend.

Disappointing. We have eaten here many times without issue but tonight the service wasn't great. The gent who brought out the first few courses just put down the plate and didn't take time to explain the courses. Disappointed when we asked for the bill that you are now charging for water, I have never been charged for water before. When we are seated you are asked whether you would like still or sparkling water it was not mentioned that this was now £3.50. The server explained that they had a new manager and they now had to charge for the water but that she only charged for the one 330ml. Unfortunately this spoiled the meal and the experience as a regular customer I don't think I would return.

I recently dined at James Martin Manchester to celebrate a special occasion—my mum's 50th birthday—but, unfortunately, the experience was far from what we had hoped for. From the start, the service was lackluster. We were not served properly, and no one bothered to check how our meal was. Despite informing the restaurant about the significance of the occasion beforehand, it wasn't acknowledged until we made a complaint. This was extremely disappointing, as we expected more attention to detail for such a milestone event. Throughout the meal, our drinks were left empty, and no one offered us refills or asked if we wanted more. When the main course arrived, our starter plates were still on the table, which was both uncomfortable and unprofessional. To make matters worse, we were mistakenly served someone else's food, which was then taken from our table and served directly to the other customer. This is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about hygiene standards. We were also told beforehand that we could bring a cake and that a manager would light the candle for us. However, when we arrived, we were told that lighting the candle was not allowed. This inconsistency was frustrating and added to the overall disappointment of the evening. The food itself was a mixed bag—some dishes arrived cold, the steak was not cooked as requested, and the presentation of several dishes was incorrect. The staff seemed unsure of themselves, lacking the confidence and professionalism you'd expect at a restaurant of this caliber. Overall, the entire experience was poor, and it certainly did not meet the standards we expected for such an important celebration. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, as the issues we encountered are simply not acceptable.

The best Sunday roast in Manchester! Lovely, homely feeling restaurant and the staff were all very professional, friendly and funny. You have to walk through the M235 casino to get to it but the restaurant feels very separate once your there. The best food! 100% recommend

Went here for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife and friend’s Birthday's. Even though we have been previously and know what to expect the place still gives you the feeling you’re going to have a very special time. The food was outstanding a three course that taste awesome and fills you to that satisfaction feeling, the service from all the staff was fantastic friendly but not intrusive and they have a great sense of humour. A special mention to Alfie and Fabio who attended to us for the afternoon they were superb. The pricing is tremendous value for the level of food, atmosphere and service. We cannot wait for our next visit.

We have just enjoyed a Sunday lunch at the James Martin restaurant in Manchester. Everything was absolutely first class from the moment we arrived. Alfie, our waiter, was very attentive throughout; friendly, but professional at the same time. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection; we shall definitely be returning!

My lovely wife booked for us to have afternoon tea on my birthday. We chose the bottomless Prosecco option. From start to finish the welcome, service atmosphere and food were wonderful. The savoury selection of sandwiches, Yorkshire ham roll( My favourite) sausage roll, Salmon and cream cheese and cucumber wand watercress were sublime. As for the pastries and cakes, good job I wore loose trousers.Macaron, raspberry sponge, hazelnut choux pastry and scone were to die for. I can’t believe but we did finish with the crème brûlée. Our waiter Sarj although new was attentive and never too intrusive. AND to round it off a small lemon marshmallow with happy birthday on the plate topped it off. That is a bit of a lie because I received a personally signed birthday card from James Martin himself. I would strongly recommend a visit. Unusual access through the casino but so worth it. Visited James Martin Manchester yesterday for my wife’s 65th birthday treat bottomless Prosecco, what an experience fantastic atmosphere beautifully elegant restaurant amazing staff, especially”Fabio” who was very personable and a great conversationalist , whose knowledge was vast, the signed card and a little birthday treat for my wife were a lovely touch , we were seated at a nice table overlooking the city, our table was also attended to by a very lovely young Vietnamese girl with impeccable manners, what an afternoon we had we will be regulars I think , Oh by the way the Food ,Sunday roast was in no doubt the BEST IN TOWN !! Excellent experience, the food was of a quality standard throughout the meal. Tasty and cooked to perfection. Our waiter, Fabio, was attentive and offered suggestions and advice on the meal and wines. Service was great and the food was served promptly. Would throughly recommend the Thai Crab Risotto, the flavours were amazing. Will be going back again very soon!!

19.07.24 - We had the 5 course taster menu with paired wine and it was honestly the most delicious food I've tasted. The wines were beautifully paired too especially with the scallop course. Above all, the service from Fabio was top class. He was so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and gave us a wealth of information about our food and wine. It was a perfect experience and we will without question go back for more!

This was our first visit of many more to come I hope. Friends had told us we should go and experience the quality of their Sunday lunch. In the end we opted for the offer of the 5 course tasting menu and wow it did not disappoint. From the outset the first three seemed to get better and better with each course leading to a beautiful and succulent beef dish followed by a sumptuous sweet. All courses were presented with full supporting information which was not over powering but just enough to enjoy the experience. However I must give a shout for Fabio who looked after us all evening, his knowledge and style added significantly to what was an excellent evening and his tips on holidays in Brazil were an added bonus. Thanks Fabio and James Martin for an evening to remember celebrating our anniversary and birthday

We shared an evening with James. The food was great and the wine was great, service was good. Was a little disappointed he said he would come down to the bar we waited quite a while but he sat up in the restaurant with two ladies chatting with them. But we had a great night something the wife had wanted to do for a long time.

I have to thank Tom who when above and beyond to make sure we had a good bottle of wine to our liking and was very attentive. It is one of our favourite restaurants in Manchester.

food was alright. service and hygiene weren’t so. when we arrived, we wanted the window seat and the waitress said it was booked. but the table stayed unoccupied even when we finished our meal. when we sat down, we accidentally dropped a cutlery, the waiter came to help us pick it up but decided to just put it back on our table instead of getting a new one. the food was okay and reasonably priced. one suggestion for the crab risotto is if it could be plated on an actual crab shell, it would have looked much better. the broccoli side was also a little burnt. overall experience was so-so, would not visit again though.

I booked a table for Father’s Day for 5 people, I arrived at 2.30 pm only to be told I cannot go in The reason for this is that my daughter was 16 years old and the restaurant is inside a casino, I was told of the person at the door I was basically stupid for not reading the T&C As it clearly stipulates you have to be over 18 , he then calls the manager of the restaurant who echos this again to us He said he will not deduct the 50.00 reservation fee as a goodwill gesture ???? HERE IS THE THING THEY CLEARLY HAVE A IT PROBLEM, IF YOU BOOK VIA THE WEB ON A SMARTPHONE, IT DOES NOT STIPULATE NOWERE THAT YOU HAVE TO BE OVER 18 YEARS OLD A HOUR AND HALF OF MY LIFE WASTED, My DAD UPSET, AND TO MSKE MATTERS WORSE WE WERE MADE OUT TO BE LIARS @JAMES MARTIN GET YOUR IT PROBLEM SORTED OUT !!!

First time visit blown away by the place all the staff very helpful & friendly, as my wife has very poor sight they all went above and beyond to make sure everything was just so for us...The food was excellent the wine selection great. They even did a little something very special for our wedding anniversary..totally recommend a visit everytime in Manchester ..5star..

Some of the best service I’ve ever had! Went for Mother’s Day and we received a complementary canapé as well as a free glass of champagne and a cocktail thrown in for free for mum as well! Excellent food all served piping hot by 3 superb waiters who could not be more attentive! Big shoutout to Gracie who really took care of us.

I had a lovely Sunday dinner today at James Martin. The waiter was really helpful accommodating my allergies (oral allergy syndrome), the food was absolutely delicious and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I had unfortunately gone out to early after a recent operation so needed to get home and our waiter was really helpful by getting the bill quickly and he was just really attentive, thank you.

We absolutely loved it here. Food was amazing and lived up to all expectations. We were in Manchester for the week and was the best food we tasted. Brilliant.

Great atmosphere and service. Food was reasonably priced and all very tasty. Would give 5 stars but our risotto was undercooked and everything just needed a pinch of salt to bring out the full flavor. Would still recommend and go back!

It took us a while to find the place as its actually in the casino. Which is a bit of a mood killer. But, the staff are friendly and really helpful. And the food is huge portions, as you'd expect from James Martin, but also really good quality. It's pretty pricey, but given the quality fair.

Very good restaurant with nice à la carte and meat options. The meat was great, but a bit pricey. The main highlight for me was the service, warm and attentive, proper Northern hospitality.

We went to Mr Martin's restaurant today one I have always wanted to go to for a long time and what a pleasure it was the main man himself came out to is guess 👍 food out off this world all the waiters where excellent I would highly recommend you go you will not be disappointed. Very Good Sunday Lunch. Exceptional ? No, but certainly hard to fault. It’s hard to “knock it out of the park” with a roast dinner, but this was definitely an 8 or 9 from 10. Perhaps the beef could have been a little more tender. Accompanying carrots, cabbage and roast potato’s were also very good. The carrots tasted excellent, even if they were slightly over cooked and lost any amount of ‘al dente’. Our server(forgot to get name), was excellent. Knew when to be around and responded to all requests professionally and promptly. My mother and I thought that the price was spot on for the quality and experience.

Been a patron of their Sunday roast deal twice now, 3 courses for £35ish can't beat the value on that! They did add a service charge at the end, but I think the quality of food and the value for money on the deal makes up for it.

We came here for a birthday celebration and I cannot commend the service enough. Gracie was amazing, recommended delicious courses and the team provided a complimentary round of prosecco and card for the celebrations. The food was lovely, but not necessarily anything I've not had better elsewhere, e.g. the steak was not outstanding as you would expect.

Lovely Easter Sunday spent at James Martin having the Sunday bottomless lunch which is good value for money - all the food is absolutely delicious and the staff are so helpful and Gracie the young lady that looked after us for the afternoon was professional friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent Sunday roast meal at James Martin. The beef was perfect. The potatoes are nice and crispy. The carrots was a favourite. Honey roasted or caramelised slightly, they were so tasty. Had the ox cheek croquettes and it was amazing. So rich. My partner had the baked goats cheese and said it could be a daily, it was that good. We both finished with the delicious sticky toffee pudding. All in all a well recommended roast experience. Well done 👍

This is the third time at James Martin and It was a little quiet on a Friday night but that didn’t affect the quality of food, flavours are just amazing cannot quite describe how amazing the steak is.

Food was phenomenal. Didn't like the waiter whatsoever. Came over with a bottle of rioja (I ordered) and said " sir this is the wine, would you like to try it" to my partner. Never looked at me or addressed me once. It's 2024.... like cmon. He did the same at other people's tables too .... just talked to them men? This just ruined my whole experience to be honest. I picked the resturant and the wine and I don't even get spoken too? Female waitress was lovely !

Wow wow wow!! We've had many roasts and this was THE ONE!! The meat was so so tender and the vegetables was something else! Don't let the walk through the casino put you off. Excellent resturant with great food and friendly service

Great to vist for a special occasion. Food was very tasty but seriously lacking in content. Our waiter Ashton was brilliant, very helpful, knowledgeable, and made the perfect recommendations. Would I go again, possibly not, it didn't live up to expectations.

Unfortunately we were disappointed, we have visited previously for a meal and it was excellent but afternoon tea was below our expectations. We should have spoken up at the time but not once did we get asked if we were enjoying our food or if everything was to our satisfaction, we are generally not ones to complain anyway as we are easily pleased. We had to wait 35 minutes for our food to arrive which usually wouldn't bother us but it is a strict 1.5 hour slot and by 4.30 people were being moved with their drinks to the bar below in the casino area.I saw one lady complaining and asking to finish their drinks at least but they were moved regardless. Maybe we expected too much from the food after our last experience and also as we are fans of James Martin. I have to say that the presentation was beautiful and everywhere was spotless. We were also greeted and taken to our table by a very friendly and smiley lady. The waiter explained our options and when the food came he told us what each item was The food just didn't seem particularly fresh as the finger sandwiches were drying out on top, as if very slightly toasted and the sandwich buns were very hard, I couldn't actually bite one of them at all. The salmon filling in the finger sandwich however was delicious. The banana creme brulee was very nice. The spiced walnut cake was extremely dry, as was the macaron. I also didn't eat my scone as it was sort of salty? It seemed as if it had been prepared too far in advance and left in a warm environment. We enjoyed the glass of champagne and also the Earl grey tea. As I say I really don't like to leave negative reviews if I haven't spoken up at the time, myself and my partner didn't say anything to each other until we left as we were hoping the other one felt differently, we just left feeling disappointed.

James, Martin is a place I’ve been going to for years. It is consistently one of the best restaurants in Manchester the food is original and divine. You probably won’t go wrong taking time out of your day to visit this restaurant.

Absolutely beautiful and really reasonably priced.

Excellent food, exemplary service, in a post industrial setting, somewhat bizarrely located at the far end of a casino. A dining experience made memorable by a very personable table service team. Steer clear of the casino bar below/adjacent to the restaurant area and don't order wine from there, we sent the first bottle back and its replacement wasn't much better, not spoiled, just very poor quality.

UPDATE! 12/1/2024 Sadly I am having to write again. Several weeks after leaving the review below I was eventually contacted and asked to message them personally so they could speak with me about my experience. I did this two weeks ago and have heard absolutely nothing! Talk about rub salt in the wound!! Firstly a disappointing experience to be followed up by poor customer service regarding my review about poor service. Come on James Martin Manchester, sort yourselves out. I’m sure James himself would be appalled at the way you have dealt with this! Well James, after a fantastic night at your live show the night before, we were a little disappointed with the restaurant last night. Food was excellent 5/5! Service not so good. We’ve been there several times and last night was not the best. We had to ask to have plates taken away, ask for more water and drinks and felt we just weren’t being looked after as we have been in the past. It’s like we were in an average restaurant with average service but excellent food. This isn’t somewhere we can afford to go to all the time so when paying these prices we expect excellent service and be made to feel a bit special and we didn’t get that. They even completely ignored the fact it was my husbands birthday, despite being made aware of this quite clearly at the time of booking. Please get the service levels back to where they were, especially if you are going to charge £18 as a service charge for a table of two!!

I decided to book a surprise meal for my Husbands 60th birthday as James is his favourite chef. We were not disappointed on visiting, the service was exceptional, the food was exquisite, we will definitely be visiting again. We arrived slightly early and were given vouchers for reduced price drinks at the bar. When we were seated at the restaurant, our waitress was extremely attentive, served the wine - topping us up when the drinks were getting low, gave complimentary bread. We decided to try food that we had never tasted, so opted for the Ox cheek and quail starters - they were both delicious and so flavoursome. For mains we had venison and ribs (not a new try) they both melted in your mouth when eating them. The beef dripping chips were the best I’ve ever tasted too. Would definitely recommend eating here!!!

My expectations for this meal we’re really high. We had to have the Christmas menu as we were 8. The cauliflower cheese starter was tasteless. Main course vegetables were underwhelming and the roast potatoes difficult to cut into. Sticky toffee pud inedible. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Being British we didn’t complain. So disappointed as I am a big James Martin fan and expected a much higher standard.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal . Service was great waiters were very attentive. We ordered Sirloin steak however order was mixed up and we had fillet instead .The waiter was very apologetic and offered to change it we were not bothered in the least . The restaurant was very busy and mistakes happen. When the bill came we were charged for the sirloin we had originally ordered. We had a superb meal and would most definitely go again next time we visit Manchester.

Fabio was an excellent server, extremely polite and attentive but in a non invasive manner - there but not there. Surprised us with a glass of bubbles to celebrate our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Food was beautiful. Decided to go with the festive menu and had the crab risotto, Turkey dinner and cheese board - sublime. They even swapped out the smelly blue cheese for a mature cheddar which was light and tasty. Overall a fantastic night! Well done everyone :-)

We had the Festve menu. Having been a follower of James Martin for years I had high expectations of this experience and it didn’t disappoint. Every course had the perfect balance of flavours and the presentation was just lovely. It’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had and I hope he opens a restaurant in Scotland so that I don’t have to travel so far next time.

The best compliment I can give is I’m Struggling to find fault. Every detail of the starter and mains was cooked to perfection. Attentive yet not over bearing server, in a relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend Thankyou!!

Visited James Martin quite a few times and always enjoyed the food so decided to book for Festive Afternoon Tea, sorry to say was rather underwhelmed, my local garden centre at half the price offer a far superior afternoon tea with bottomless tea and coffee, the bread on the sandwiches had gone dry, the little bread buns were difficult to eat, the gingerbread mince pie was dry without much flavour, mulled wine macaroon nothing special, egg nog choux bun was amazing, dark chocolate and clementine pot was lovely, Christmas pudding scone very nice, but not too generous on the brandy cream and raspberry jam. We were not asked if everything was OK otherwise would have given feedback. Would appreciate your comments.

I am a huge fan of James Martin. I live in the USA so this trip was even more special as we celebrated with family we hadn't seen in a long time. Everything from start to finish was exceptional. The customer service was excellent, the food divine and the cocktails and the James Martin wine were phenomenal. I can't wait to come back again on my next trip back to the motherland! Thank you James Martin Manchester for a wonderful experience.

It didnt disappoint it was delicious We were celebrating our daughter and son in laws wedding anniversary the complimentary glasses of bubbles and card were a very thoughtful and kind touch. We live in Lincolnshire and wish this restaurant was nearer as we would love to dine here frequently. However our daughter lives in Preston so we will be back.

Four friends went for afternoon tea, well a festive afternoon tea. It was the best I have had and I have sampled a lot)! Atmosphere, staff, food, all superb. We booked immediately for an evening meal in January. Thanks so much!

We were at this restaurant tonight with our daughter and son in law celebrating their wedding anniversary. What an amazing place, great ambience, and the staff were so lovely. The food was amazing and the wine delicious. The complementary glasses of bubbles and the wedding anniversary card were a thoughtful and kind touch. We went with his recommendation which was the Venison it didn't disappoint it was fabulous. So thank you for an excellent evening one we will remember. Dined here for my husbands 60th and we were not disappointed. The Al-a-carte food was amazing, beautifully presented and tasted out of this world. The service we recieved was excellent, very polite and attentive without being over bearing. Not busy for a Thursday which was surprising but did not stop our enjoyment. Would highly recommend and will return.
