Big fans of James and had been looking forward to this for months, travelled over from Sheffield, food was nice, onion bhaji starter was fab, had the fillet, well cooked with the crispy edges, sadly had 2 thick veins running thru so left a bit, sometimes happens so no complaints, friends shared porterhouse said it was nice, not as big as expected but enjoyed it, service was good, apparently the staff recently had a wine tasting course so the waiter was so enthusiastic and helped with the wine choices, a nice experience, would be better if had direct access rather than going thru the casino, been to a few and it’s a bit dated (casino) Restaurant setting and decor is fab. I’d recommend they upgrade the wooden salt / pepper pots, old and worn and didn’t fit in with a £400 spend between 4 of us.

Food was lovely, service terrible basically left in a corner, had to keep attracting the servers attention!! Looking forward to this for a long time but will not rush back

As new members of the Alfie fan club (the really lovely waiter), we reckoned that James doesn’t really need to bother to be there. Sunday lunch was amazing value. Beautiful to look at, imaginative starters, superb roast beef with all the trimmings and puddings that were hard to ignore and difficult to pack in (we managed!). If we lived nearer, we’d be regulars and have celebratory meals there. We were very impressed.

I'd booked this meal in advance for a family birthday celebration last Saturday evening. Our party was 3 people. The reservation slot was 8pm-10pm. The staff were all very welcoming and took our drink orders promptly. We didn't order starters but the mains and desserts were delicious. The reason for my low score is that it took well over an hour after we placed our order for the food to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was in no way full and we weren't making any additional or complicated requests. it was half past 9 before the food arrived at the table. This isn't what I would expect from such a pricey restaurant and was really disappointing for something that was meant to be a birthday treat. The staff did apologise but I won't return.

We went for a pre theatre meal, it was lovely. Great table, knowledgeable and friendly waitress, beautifully presented food, and best of all it was delicious. We saw James after in his Manchester show which was amazing. Fantastic night overall, thank you

Absolutely great! Our second visit and another superb experience. Again the Sunday roast was delicious. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and we had a wonderful time. Will we be returning? Absolutely!

This Sunday at 1:00 PM, my wife and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at James Martin Manchester. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant impressed us—beautifully laid out with plenty of space between tables, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Service was impeccable—prompt, polite, and professional. To start, we had the soup, followed by a classic Sunday roast for my wife and a delicious vegetarian pithivier for me. We wrapped up the meal with a coffee, and the entire experience was excellent. With the bill coming in at under £100, it was fantastic value for the quality of food and service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great Sunday dining experience in Manchester!

2nd time here and was not dissapointed. Alfie our server for the night was brilliant. And the food was amazing as amazing as the last time. Sticky Toffee Pudding was sublime. Cant wait to visit again.

We greatly enjoyed Sunday lunch here during February. Food as anticipated was spot on, beautifully executed starters and beef roast and the recommendation for red wine was brilliant. Just as we expected, could not have wanted for a tastier meal! A couple of suggestions that won't cost much to implement: if you've changed the menu, especially the wine list make sure the old one is still not clipped to the new menu. The welcome is everything, I felt like we were intruding when we presented ourselves at the actual restaurant to the front of house member of staff. If you have a large coat rack, offer to take guests coats as it's part of the welcome. Also good luck with getting your dishwasher fixed!

We went for Valentine’s Day, the service was superb. Good food and well planned and timed menu. Definitely recommend.

My wife surprised me with a meal at James restaurant in Manchester it was as expected a great Birthday gift.. all the staff so nice approachable and the explanation of each meal and wine which compliments the meal , our waitress was Btyl she was lovely and when we had finished wished me a happy birthday and presented me with a photo card signed by James I’m a huge fan of everything he does made the night.

Had the tasting menu and it was disappointing. Small portions and one course was bread (which was the most filling) We had the wine pairing which was good, but more wine than food..

Excellent food -but a crap location-part of a seedy casino why do people go on slot machines but even the water was casino branded and access via a multi story car park - surely you can get a nicer location

Food was lovely but after the 5 courses I was still hungry. In my opinion it was extremely expensive for what I ate.

Great food (especially the lamb) and the service was excellent (Alfie being a very pleasant individual). Entrance is confusing and we should have given the chips a miss but these were not important enough to lose a mark.

After many years of positive visits this will be out last tune for so many reasons I had to sleep on my review to see if it improved after reflection. It didn’t sadly. Service started quickly on arrival some of the staff were very good and explained the menu food etc. After the stater course things went from bad to worse. The portions are frankly derisory (see photo) There was more space vacant on the tiny plate than covered with food and gravy. The food was not “hot” but acceptable. The real horror occurred in our 40 plus wait for the tiny dessert option to arrive. Not a word of apology from anyone. At this point we withheld the mandatory tip, Our visit this year was an unprofessional despite what came across as a very quiet time. I slept on my review to see if my thoughts changed further better on reflection. But sadly not. I would urge anyone checking out these reviews to seriously consider other venues. The end of an era for my family. Very sad. No dish is recommended.

We went to James Martin for our anniversary. Food was absolutely awful, I ordered a ribeye and the attached photo below was my steak which cost over 30 quid??? The restaurant is in a casino and it’s not a very nice location. The waiter Alfie was really nice however.

Had the most fantastic meal for my sister’s birthday! Rose, our waitress for the eve, was just fantastic! Such a lovely girl and impeccable service! The whole thing was finished off with a birthday card from the team, which was a lovely touch!! Thank you for making our visit so special! We can’t wait to come back! Xxx

5 star food, fantastic 3 course Sunday dinner reasonably priced for city centre in a lovely setting

Booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary and use a voucher. What a lovely evening, great food and atmosphere and our waitress, Eboni, was utterly charming and made the evening.

What can I say if you want amazing food and atmosphere and staff that make your feel very welcome this is the place to be at. We opted for the tasting menu with matching wines. It was superb Ebony talked us through each course and explained why the wine was paired with the plate which enhanced the whole experience. Every bite on the plate you wanted more and each plate in my opinion got better as we finished. We will be back again to try the main menu for sure. Well done to everyone involved, it’s a lovely restaurant and service was perfectly timed not rushed. Attention to detail top notch.

Once we found the restaurant as it is tucked away at the back of a casino we found a lovely restaurant with limited but nice food options. Food delicious. Service from Alfie 5 star.

Felt very old fashioned, food was decent and the staff were pleasant and helpful but I felt like I was on a shit cruise ship for the duration of the meal. The atmosphere and decor could do with some updating (background music was dire). The menu was ok, again could really do with a bit of creativity but good if you’re looking for typical English food with a high quality flair.

Came to James Martin, Manchester for a date day. What a special day it was and made extra special by Pavel (our server). He was fantastic and looked after our every need. The food was superb, flavours that I’ve never experienced. Just WOW! Great day, book now, we will be soon…

Went last nightfor tasting menui have a few allergies chef (Craig ) came to see me and actually altered for me well the food was amazing everything was so well put together I couldn't have asked for anymore to be done so thank Craig.. Alfie was our waiter what a lovely man and described everything perfectly this our 5th visit and can't wait for our 6th

Had a wonderful experience. The food was superb, absolutely cooked to perfection. Our plates were empty at the end of the meal. our waiter Saj, was an absolute delight, he was so nice, relaxed and chatty but totally professional, as was everyone we came into contact with. The ambience was "spot on" Worth every penny. When we can afford it, we will definitely be back Thank you to all for such a wonderful evening.

Visited the restaurant for Sunday lunch in August which was absolutely delicious, the meal was so good we cancelled my dad's 70th birthday dinner reservation at another restaurant so we could celebrate at James Martin Manchester the following week. Alfie was our server on both occasions and he was absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend for an impeccable dining experience.

The table for 12 was booked 7 months ago for a 60th & food was pre-ordered as requested by the restaurant. On arrival there was no one to greet us and all 12 of us stood around for 5 minutes as waiters walked by (it was 6.30 and not busy at all). The waitress was unenthusiastic and unknowledgeable (referring to the ice bucket as “thingymagig”. Service was painfully slow, from drinks to obtaining the bill. Food was mediocre at best & barely warm. The staff were unhelpful when we wanted to split the bill between the 6 couples and one member of staff decided to give us a lecture. The birthday boy is a huge James Martin fan and travelled from Sheffield and was bitterly disappointed.

So very disappointed by this restaurant. We made a reservation for our anniversary and were really looking forward to a lovely meal. Sadly, this was not the case. The menu had changed and the dishes we were looking forward to had been removed from the menu, not the end of the world and we made our choices from the new menu. I ordered a specific gin from the menu, but they had run out of it. Again, a shame but I chose a different drink. Starters came and were nice. Main course came and firstly the 2 members of waiting staff who brought over our meals were unable to tell us what was on the plates, but far worse was the raw, red and cold, duck that was served. It was difficult to cut it, and impossible to chew. The manager told us that the chef said it was meant to be like this. Absolutely inedible, and probably pretty dangerous. We will be reporting this to the food standards agency on Monday. The manager was completely useless and just made excuses. We have never walked out of a restaurant before mid meal but we asked for the bill for the drinks and starters and left hungry, disappointed and concerned that the small amount of duck eaten will make us ill.i really don't recommend going to James Martin Manchester.

Was a amazing experience food was fantastic very tasty,had a taster menu which included lovely wines with each dish.well worth the money. The staff was amazing explaining all dishes and wines could not fault anything. 5star and more.would highly recommend.

Disappointing. We have eaten here many times without issue but tonight the service wasn't great. The gent who brought out the first few courses just put down the plate and didn't take time to explain the courses. Disappointed when we asked for the bill that you are now charging for water, I have never been charged for water before. When we are seated you are asked whether you would like still or sparkling water it was not mentioned that this was now £3.50. The server explained that they had a new manager and they now had to charge for the water but that she only charged for the one 330ml. Unfortunately this spoiled the meal and the experience as a regular customer I don't think I would return.

I recently dined at James Martin Manchester to celebrate a special occasion—my mum's 50th birthday—but, unfortunately, the experience was far from what we had hoped for. From the start, the service was lackluster. We were not served properly, and no one bothered to check how our meal was. Despite informing the restaurant about the significance of the occasion beforehand, it wasn't acknowledged until we made a complaint. This was extremely disappointing, as we expected more attention to detail for such a milestone event. Throughout the meal, our drinks were left empty, and no one offered us refills or asked if we wanted more. When the main course arrived, our starter plates were still on the table, which was both uncomfortable and unprofessional. To make matters worse, we were mistakenly served someone else's food, which was then taken from our table and served directly to the other customer. This is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about hygiene standards. We were also told beforehand that we could bring a cake and that a manager would light the candle for us. However, when we arrived, we were told that lighting the candle was not allowed. This inconsistency was frustrating and added to the overall disappointment of the evening. The food itself was a mixed bag—some dishes arrived cold, the steak was not cooked as requested, and the presentation of several dishes was incorrect. The staff seemed unsure of themselves, lacking the confidence and professionalism you'd expect at a restaurant of this caliber. Overall, the entire experience was poor, and it certainly did not meet the standards we expected for such an important celebration. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, as the issues we encountered are simply not acceptable.

The best Sunday roast in Manchester! Lovely, homely feeling restaurant and the staff were all very professional, friendly and funny. You have to walk through the M235 casino to get to it but the restaurant feels very separate once your there. The best food! 100% recommend

Went here for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife and friend’s Birthday's. Even though we have been previously and know what to expect the place still gives you the feeling you’re going to have a very special time. The food was outstanding a three course that taste awesome and fills you to that satisfaction feeling, the service from all the staff was fantastic friendly but not intrusive and they have a great sense of humour. A special mention to Alfie and Fabio who attended to us for the afternoon they were superb. The pricing is tremendous value for the level of food, atmosphere and service. We cannot wait for our next visit.

We have just enjoyed a Sunday lunch at the James Martin restaurant in Manchester. Everything was absolutely first class from the moment we arrived. Alfie, our waiter, was very attentive throughout; friendly, but professional at the same time. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection; we shall definitely be returning!

My lovely wife booked for us to have afternoon tea on my birthday. We chose the bottomless Prosecco option. From start to finish the welcome, service atmosphere and food were wonderful. The savoury selection of sandwiches, Yorkshire ham roll( My favourite) sausage roll, Salmon and cream cheese and cucumber wand watercress were sublime. As for the pastries and cakes, good job I wore loose trousers.Macaron, raspberry sponge, hazelnut choux pastry and scone were to die for. I can’t believe but we did finish with the crème brûlée. Our waiter Sarj although new was attentive and never too intrusive. AND to round it off a small lemon marshmallow with happy birthday on the plate topped it off. That is a bit of a lie because I received a personally signed birthday card from James Martin himself. I would strongly recommend a visit. Unusual access through the casino but so worth it. Visited James Martin Manchester yesterday for my wife’s 65th birthday treat bottomless Prosecco, what an experience fantastic atmosphere beautifully elegant restaurant amazing staff, especially”Fabio” who was very personable and a great conversationalist , whose knowledge was vast, the signed card and a little birthday treat for my wife were a lovely touch , we were seated at a nice table overlooking the city, our table was also attended to by a very lovely young Vietnamese girl with impeccable manners, what an afternoon we had we will be regulars I think , Oh by the way the Food ,Sunday roast was in no doubt the BEST IN TOWN !! Thankyou so much to all of you for making my wife’s birthday so special Jon chapman

Excellent experience, the food was of a quality standard throughout the meal. Tasty and cooked to perfection. Our waiter, Fabio, was attentive and offered suggestions and advice on the meal and wines. Service was great and the food was served promptly. Would throughly recommend the Thai Crab Risotto, the flavours were amazing. Will be going back again very soon!!

19.07.24 - We had the 5 course taster menu with paired wine and it was honestly the most delicious food I've tasted. The wines were beautifully paired too especially with the scallop course. Above all, the service from Fabio was top class. He was so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and gave us a wealth of information about our food and wine. It was a perfect experience and we will without question go back for more!

This was our first visit of many more to come I hope. Friends had told us we should go and experience the quality of their Sunday lunch. In the end we opted for the offer of the 5 course tasting menu and wow it did not disappoint. From the outset the first three seemed to get better and better with each course leading to a beautiful and succulent beef dish followed by a sumptuous sweet. All courses were presented with full supporting information which was not over powering but just enough to enjoy the experience. However I must give a shout for Fabio who looked after us all evening, his knowledge and style added significantly to what was an excellent evening and his tips on holidays in Brazil were an added bonus. Thanks Fabio and James Martin for an evening to remember celebrating our anniversary and birthday

We shared an evening with James. The food was great and the wine was great, service was good. Was a little disappointed he said he would come down to the bar we waited quite a while but he sat up in the restaurant with two ladies chatting with them. But we had a great night something the wife had wanted to do for a long time.

2nd time dining at James Martin restaurant in Manchester. Food is always 👌🏾 chefs kiss, but this time I didn't give 5 stars because ourMac and cheese was very dry. I have to thank Tom who when above and beyond to make sure we had a good bottle of wine to our liking and was very attentive. It is one of our favourite restaurants in Manchester.

food was alright. service and hygiene weren’t so. when we arrived, we wanted the window seat and the waitress said it was booked. but the table stayed unoccupied even when we finished our meal. when we sat down, we accidentally dropped a cutlery, the waiter came to help us pick it up but decided to just put it back on our table instead of getting a new one. the food was okay and reasonably priced. one suggestion for the crab risotto is if it could be plated on an actual crab shell, it would have looked much better. the broccoli side was also a little burnt. overall experience was so-so, would not visit again though.

I booked a table for Father’s Day for 5 people, I arrived at 2.30 pm only to be told I cannot go in The reason for this is that my daughter was 16 years old and the restaurant is inside a casino, I was told of the person at the door I was basically stupid for not reading the T&C As it clearly stipulates you have to be over 18 , he then calls the manager of the restaurant who echos this again to us He said he will not deduct the 50.00 reservation fee as a goodwill gesture ???? HERE IS THE THING THEY CLEARLY HAVE A IT PROBLEM, IF YOU BOOK VIA THE WEB ON A SMARTPHONE, IT DOES NOT STIPULATE NOWERE THAT YOU HAVE TO BE OVER 18 YEARS OLD A HOUR AND HALF OF MY LIFE WASTED, My DAD UPSET, AND TO MSKE MATTERS WORSE WE WERE MADE OUT TO BE LIARS @JAMES MARTIN GET YOUR IT PROBLEM SORTED OUT !!!

First time visit blown away by the place all the staff very helpful & friendly, as my wife has very poor sight they all went above and beyond to make sure everything was just so for us...The food was excellent the wine selection great. They even did a little something very special for our wedding anniversary..totally recommend a visit everytime in Manchester ..5star..

Some of the best service I’ve ever had! Went for Mother’s Day and we received a complementary canapé as well as a free glass of champagne and a cocktail thrown in for free for mum as well! Excellent food all served piping hot by 3 superb waiters who could not be more attentive! Big shoutout to Gracie who really took care of us.

I had a lovely Sunday dinner today at James Martin. The waiter was really helpful accommodating my allergies (oral allergy syndrome), the food was absolutely delicious and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I had unfortunately gone out to early after a recent operation so needed to get home and our waiter was really helpful by getting the bill quickly and he was just really attentive, thank you.

Great atmosphere and service. Food was reasonably priced and all very tasty. Would give 5 stars but our risotto was undercooked and everything just needed a pinch of salt to bring out the full flavor. Would still recommend and go back!
