This was our second time visiting this restaurant on a Sunday the staff was lovely the starters great but the main meals was terrible they both came out cold meats where mushy, one was beef the other pork's cheek very disappointed as we haven't been able to get out in year's due to terrible family circumstances so really upset the meal was so bad and for the second time wouldn't return due to this fact.

Just had Afternoon Tea and couldn't fault it at all. The service was outstanding.the food is fabulous. Exceptional value for money it is the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon highly recommended. Thank you

The venue, when you've passed over the fact it's upstairs in casino, is stunning. Way better than the afternoon tea. The food served was no better than an afternoon tea in a substandard cafe. So disappointed. Tough bread rolls on the chicken sandwich. Then soggy nasty bread on the salmon sandwich, overly sickly sweet treats and spongy disappointing signature scone. Not one for the foodies unfortunately. Prosecco was definitely needed. James Martins Manchester then compounded the experience by responding to this review asking if we coukd provide more details so we could work together to resolve. Time was taken the email was sent and what a shocker.. It's all just for the show... No response to our email, no response to the complaint. We felt hopeful one of thier team cared... Now we feel doubly let down. Spend your money elsewhere, if James served this up on TV he'd never work again!

We attended for afternoon tea. Service was exceptional. Our server was B who really looked after us. She really loved her job and really engaged with enthusiasm. All staff made sure our drinks were always topped up. The sandwiches where really tasty and home made. The egg mayo was the best. And the cakes were honestly the best I've ever tasted. So light and airy. The location was fab. I felt like a dabble at the casino when I was there which is located downstairs. Don't worry you can't hear the slot machines in the restaurant. We had a lovely window seat and the chairs were really comfy. We will definitely book again xxx

We ate Sunday lunch here as a family. We were made to feel welcome and perfectly at home by all of the staff. Melody was was our waitress, she was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and attentive with out being overly so. We all chose the Roast Beef dinner along with different starters and desserts. The food was perfectly cooked and presented, every course was a winner with us. We chose a bottle of James Martin's Chardonnay to accompany the meal and were more than surprised with the quality of the wine, very top class 😊. Our meal at James Martin's Manchester will remain a very happy memory with us for a very long time. We will be returning to eat here again.

First door was closed had to ring I was told only open in the evening but no sign on door first time food was cold ask staff and they agreed but was not good for first time seen him live said I will give you 10 percent discount so sad over this experience

The food is incredible with fantastic service it was our 2nd visit to James Martin Restaurant. The staff are so attentive and so friendly the decor of the restaurant is of a high standard and immaculate the service was efficient and the food is so fresh and tasty 10/10 .

It was a birthday celebration for my sons 40th, there was a booking for 20 people, unfortunately it had to be a set meal, 3 people ordered the fish dish and 2 out of 3 were over cooked and inedible, waiter asked if I'd like another one,to which I replied if you can't cook it right the first time why would we like another, unfortunately I would not return,my husband is celebrating his 60th we have booked the hartshead in in ashton,it's a ego restaurant the food is delicious, it's for 25 people and it's NOT a set menu, you can pick anything from the menu, think this sounds better x

Alex was a wonderful server, very professional and attentive. The food was fantastic, Chef Ayisha is incredibly talented. Amine took time to check in on every table, a very welcoming and friendly manager. Team couldn’t do more. Will be back very soon.

Took my mum the week before Mothers Day for an early treat as she was in town for the Theatre. We were looked after by Melody who was brilliant, she was so attentive and friendly a true credit to James Martin Manchester. As it was Sunday we had the Sunday Roast Menu, I started with the Mushrooms and they were delicious and a great size portion for a starter. We both had the Roast Beef for main, this was delicious and melt in the mouth beef cooked pink and was just perfectly cooked. The veg were tasty and the gravy was delicious! For desert was had a a sticky toffee pudding and the bread and butter pudding both were delicious. After 3 courses I felt comfortably full and we both left very happy. The venue location is great a nice space with a good atmosphere, comfortable furniture and just all round a great experience. We will be back in future for sure!

Booked for a special occasion and sadly were left disappointed. We did arrive 10 minutes or so early and despite the restaurant being only half full were told we would have to wait in the bar until our booking time and that we would be collected. This did not happen so we went back up to the restaurant reception where a rather dramatic game of "find an available table" seemed to take place before we were seated. The restaurant was only half full so not sure why it was so difficult to seat us - certainly not a welcoming experience. Service after that was slow and we were made to feel like an inconvenience but when the food did arrive it was, in the main good quality and enjoyable. The desserts were excellent however the chicken sandwich was poor - a hard roll and the tiniest piece of chicken with no sign of the promised ceaser dressing. Although not the worst afternoon tea we've had it was definitely not up there with the best and, sadly not one we would recommend to friends

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. True to James's Yorkshire heritage the portions were generous. Prices for Sunday lunch were very reasonable, he doesn't build upon his fame. Can't wait to go again.

We have just returned from a 3 course Sunday Lunch, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food was faultless and the service was excellent. Alfie was very attentive and ensured we were well cared for during our visit.

It was the worst steak I've ever eaten in my life and I'm 58. However our server was lovely. If you want to walk through a casino and eat terrible steak in an almost empty restaurant at 7pm on Friday night in an incredibly busy City this is the place for you.

Big fans of James and had been looking forward to this for months, travelled over from Sheffield, food was nice, onion bhaji starter was fab, had the fillet, well cooked with the crispy edges, sadly had 2 thick veins running thru so left a bit, sometimes happens so no complaints, friends shared porterhouse said it was nice, not as big as expected but enjoyed it, service was good, apparently the staff recently had a wine tasting course so the waiter was so enthusiastic and helped with the wine choices, a nice experience, would be better if had direct access rather than going thru the casino, been to a few and it’s a bit dated (casino) Restaurant setting and decor is fab. I’d recommend they upgrade the wooden salt / pepper pots, old and worn and didn’t fit in with a £400 spend between 4 of us.

As new members of the Alfie fan club (the really lovely waiter), we reckoned that James doesn’t really need to bother to be there. Sunday lunch was amazing value. Beautiful to look at, imaginative starters, superb roast beef with all the trimmings and puddings that were hard to ignore and difficult to pack in (we managed!). If we lived nearer, we’d be regulars and have celebratory meals there. We were very impressed.

I'd booked this meal in advance for a family birthday celebration last Saturday evening. Our party was 3 people. The reservation slot was 8pm-10pm. The staff were all very welcoming and took our drink orders promptly. We didn't order starters but the mains and desserts were delicious. The reason for my low score is that it took well over an hour after we placed our order for the food to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was in no way full and we weren't making any additional or complicated requests. it was half past 9 before the food arrived at the table. This isn't what I would expect from such a pricey restaurant and was really disappointing for something that was meant to be a birthday treat. The staff did apologise but I won't return.

This Sunday at 1:00 PM, my wife and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at James Martin Manchester. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant impressed us—beautifully laid out with plenty of space between tables, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Service was impeccable—prompt, polite, and professional. To start, we had the soup, followed by a classic Sunday roast for my wife and a delicious vegetarian pithivier for me. We wrapped up the meal with a coffee, and the entire experience was excellent. With the bill coming in at under £100, it was fantastic value for the quality of food and service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great Sunday dining experience in Manchester!

2nd time here and was not dissapointed. Alfie our server for the night was brilliant. And the food was amazing as amazing as the last time. Sticky Toffee Pudding was sublime. Cant wait to visit again.

We greatly enjoyed Sunday lunch here during February. Food as anticipated was spot on, beautifully executed starters and beef roast and the recommendation for red wine was brilliant. Just as we expected, could not have wanted for a tastier meal! A couple of suggestions that won't cost much to implement: if you've changed the menu, especially the wine list make sure the old one is still not clipped to the new menu. The welcome is everything, I felt like we were intruding when we presented ourselves at the actual restaurant to the front of house member of staff. If you have a large coat rack, offer to take guests coats as it's part of the welcome. Also good luck with getting your dishwasher fixed!

My wife surprised me with a meal at James restaurant in Manchester it was as expected a great Birthday gift.. all the staff so nice approachable and the explanation of each meal and wine which compliments the meal , our waitress was Btyl she was lovely and when we had finished wished me a happy birthday and presented me with a photo card signed by James I’m a huge fan of everything he does made the night.

Had the tasting menu and it was disappointing. Small portions and one course was bread (which was the most filling) We had the wine pairing which was good, but more wine than food..

Food was lovely but after the 5 courses I was still hungry. In my opinion it was extremely expensive for what I ate.

Excellent food -but a crap location-part of a seedy casino why do people go on slot machines but even the water was casino branded and access via a multi story car park - surely you can get a nicer location

After many years of positive visits this will be out last tune for so many reasons I had to sleep on my review to see if it improved after reflection. It didn’t sadly. Service started quickly on arrival some of the staff were very good and explained the menu food etc. After the stater course things went from bad to worse. The portions are frankly derisory (see photo) There was more space vacant on the tiny plate than covered with food and gravy. The food was not “hot” but acceptable. The real horror occurred in our 40 plus wait for the tiny dessert option to arrive. Not a word of apology from anyone. At this point we withheld the mandatory tip, Our visit this year was an unprofessional despite what came across as a very quiet time. I slept on my review to see if my thoughts changed further better on reflection. But sadly not. I would urge anyone checking out these reviews to seriously consider other venues. The end of an era for my family. Very sad. No dish is recommended.

We went to James Martin for our anniversary. Food was absolutely awful, I ordered a ribeye and the attached photo below was my steak which cost over 30 quid??? The restaurant is in a casino and it’s not a very nice location. The waiter Alfie was really nice however.

First time for me at this restaurant..i can highly recommend.. great food great atmosphere and was fantastic to meet James Matin himself.. this was a Christmas 🎄 gift from my best friend.. what a fantastic gift..I could not ask for anything better excellent..10 out of 10 brilliant 👏

5 star food, fantastic 3 course Sunday dinner reasonably priced for city centre in a lovely setting

Booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary and use a voucher. What a lovely evening, great food and atmosphere and our waitress, Eboni, was utterly charming and made the evening.

What can I say if you want amazing food and atmosphere and staff that make your feel very welcome this is the place to be at. We opted for the tasting menu with matching wines. It was superb Ebony talked us through each course and explained why the wine was paired with the plate which enhanced the whole experience. Every bite on the plate you wanted more and each plate in my opinion got better as we finished. We will be back again to try the main menu for sure. Well done to everyone involved, it’s a lovely restaurant and service was perfectly timed not rushed. Attention to detail top notch.

Came to James Martin, Manchester for a date day. What a special day it was and made extra special by Pavel (our server). He was fantastic and looked after our every need. The food was superb, flavours that I’ve never experienced. Just WOW! Great day, book now, we will be soon…

Felt very old fashioned, food was decent and the staff were pleasant and helpful but I felt like I was on a shit cruise ship for the duration of the meal. The atmosphere and decor could do with some updating (background music was dire). The menu was ok, again could really do with a bit of creativity but good if you’re looking for typical English food with a high quality flair.

Had a wonderful experience. The food was superb, absolutely cooked to perfection. Our plates were empty at the end of the meal. our waiter Saj, was an absolute delight, he was so nice, relaxed and chatty but totally professional, as was everyone we came into contact with. The ambience was "spot on" Worth every penny. When we can afford it, we will definitely be back Thank you to all for such a wonderful evening.

Visited the restaurant for Sunday lunch in August which was absolutely delicious, the meal was so good we cancelled my dad's 70th birthday dinner reservation at another restaurant so we could celebrate at James Martin Manchester the following week. Alfie was our server on both occasions and he was absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend for an impeccable dining experience.

The table for 12 was booked 7 months ago for a 60th & food was pre-ordered as requested by the restaurant. On arrival there was no one to greet us and all 12 of us stood around for 5 minutes as waiters walked by (it was 6.30 and not busy at all). The waitress was unenthusiastic and unknowledgeable (referring to the ice bucket as “thingymagig”. Service was painfully slow, from drinks to obtaining the bill. Food was mediocre at best & barely warm. The staff were unhelpful when we wanted to split the bill between the 6 couples and one member of staff decided to give us a lecture. The birthday boy is a huge James Martin fan and travelled from Sheffield and was bitterly disappointed.

So very disappointed by this restaurant. We made a reservation for our anniversary and were really looking forward to a lovely meal. Sadly, this was not the case. The menu had changed and the dishes we were looking forward to had been removed from the menu, not the end of the world and we made our choices from the new menu. I ordered a specific gin from the menu, but they had run out of it. Again, a shame but I chose a different drink. Starters came and were nice. Main course came and firstly the 2 members of waiting staff who brought over our meals were unable to tell us what was on the plates, but far worse was the raw, red and cold, duck that was served. It was difficult to cut it, and impossible to chew. The manager told us that the chef said it was meant to be like this. Absolutely inedible, and probably pretty dangerous. We will be reporting this to the food standards agency on Monday. The manager was completely useless and just made excuses. We have never walked out of a restaurant before mid meal but we asked for the bill for the drinks and starters and left hungry, disappointed and concerned that the small amount of duck eaten will make us ill.i really don't recommend going to James Martin Manchester.

I recently dined at James Martin Manchester to celebrate a special occasion—my mum's 50th birthday—but, unfortunately, the experience was far from what we had hoped for. From the start, the service was lackluster. We were not served properly, and no one bothered to check how our meal was. Despite informing the restaurant about the significance of the occasion beforehand, it wasn't acknowledged until we made a complaint. This was extremely disappointing, as we expected more attention to detail for such a milestone event. Throughout the meal, our drinks were left empty, and no one offered us refills or asked if we wanted more. When the main course arrived, our starter plates were still on the table, which was both uncomfortable and unprofessional. To make matters worse, we were mistakenly served someone else's food, which was then taken from our table and served directly to the other customer. This is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about hygiene standards. We were also told beforehand that we could bring a cake and that a manager would light the candle for us. However, when we arrived, we were told that lighting the candle was not allowed. This inconsistency was frustrating and added to the overall disappointment of the evening. The food itself was a mixed bag—some dishes arrived cold, the steak was not cooked as requested, and the presentation of several dishes was incorrect. The staff seemed unsure of themselves, lacking the confidence and professionalism you'd expect at a restaurant of this caliber. Overall, the entire experience was poor, and it certainly did not meet the standards we expected for such an important celebration. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, as the issues we encountered are simply not acceptable.

Disappointing. We have eaten here many times without issue but tonight the service wasn't great. The gent who brought out the first few courses just put down the plate and didn't take time to explain the courses. Disappointed when we asked for the bill that you are now charging for water, I have never been charged for water before. When we are seated you are asked whether you would like still or sparkling water it was not mentioned that this was now £3.50. The server explained that they had a new manager and they now had to charge for the water but that she only charged for the one 330ml. Unfortunately this spoiled the meal and the experience as a regular customer I don't think I would return.

The best Sunday roast in Manchester! Lovely, homely feeling restaurant and the staff were all very professional, friendly and funny. You have to walk through the M235 casino to get to it but the restaurant feels very separate once your there. The best food! 100% recommend

Went here for Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife and friend’s Birthday's. Even though we have been previously and know what to expect the place still gives you the feeling you’re going to have a very special time. The food was outstanding a three course that taste awesome and fills you to that satisfaction feeling, the service from all the staff was fantastic friendly but not intrusive and they have a great sense of humour. A special mention to Alfie and Fabio who attended to us for the afternoon they were superb. The pricing is tremendous value for the level of food, atmosphere and service. We cannot wait for our next visit.
