The best restaurants serving British food in England

I appreciate that Wetherspoons is a bit of a game of Russian roulette when it comes to food but tonight has most likely permanently ended my “giving them another go, because it’s quick and modestly priced”. I went with the Gourmet Sirloin in the hope there would be more about it but I was left appalled by the quality, presentation and staff attitude. The peppercorn sauce was worryingly tempt and therefore left untouched. The onion rings managed to be both cold and cardboard. Some of the chips were hot and ok others nearly warm and soggy (please God don’t let those be kitchen returns from someone else’s meal! I hadn’t thought of that until now). The steak was also merely just more than warm and the picture to accompany this review was the bit that was inedible, fat and gristle (approximately 1/5 of the steak). The remainder was of really poor quality and an unusual soft texture. When I flagged this to the young lad doing his best to clear tables his response was “I will let them know”. I gave “them” ten minutes in case they wanted to discuss this complaint and without sight of “them” gave up and left. At £13.89 including a lime and soda I do not expect a steakhouse steak but edible and some sort of courtesy when discussing the defects is surely not too much to ask.

Wanted Sausage Roll and Tuna sandwich and told to order and pay at till. There was 1 woman serving a gentleman already so stood to the side of him to wait. Then another woman joined queue to my left, then another. Before the gentleman was finished a second member of staff went to the other till (directly in front of 2 women to my left) and said 'next'. I pointed out that I was next and she motioned for me to move in front of her, which I couldn't. She then said (abrubtly) if I didn't want to order/pay then she would serve someone else. If I had been on my own I would have walked out but I was with an 87 year old relative and my mobility isn't great either. The food was appalling!!! Sausage roll was luke warm / cold in middle and grossly overpriced at £6.95. Tuna in sandwich I think had come straight out of tin with no seasoning or mayo and cost £9.95. The place (don't want to call it a restaurant) was very busy and chaotic. I'm surprised that with so many bad reviews for so many years things haven't improved. Needless to say will not return. 😟

We popped in on a rainy weekday lunchtime, and were greeted by a friendly server. We ordered our sandwiches and they arrived promptly, tasted nice too.

This is anything but relaxing. Filthy trays and unwiped tables abound. Having to poke in between a line of customers for necessity items is annoying to both parties. Jiggling teabags in paper cups is an utter pain. All necessary things for a simple snack are spread about. The staff are miserable and unhelpful and the stock is sold out. This RHS garden is coining in millions to the point you can't get parked. Yet this cafe is an utter disgrace. As an RHS member it's very unimpressive.

I rang to cancel my upcoming booking, as the previous day, my friend, with her adult Down syndrome child, was treated very badly by the staff and management of this venue. The lady i spoke to , i assume, was the manager, had the audacity to raise her voice to me, and told me it was none of my business and I wasn't there. True, I wasn't, but nobody should upset my friend or her child by being rude and obnoxious, especially if you are in a 'Management ' role. Sorry you have lost my business. Avoid if you have a disabled child/ adult as they appear not to be welcome or their needs/ behaviour are not understood by the staff!

Avoid, you’ll have quite a few chips with some crunch and resistance on them. Sausages have given me an upset stomach. Guys there seem nice enough, but don’t have a clue about traditional fish and chips. Really overpriced as well.

Hello Mr Ramz ,yesterday had two chicken Shish -Chips -Two Cokes -as we don’t live in the area -had not been there for 3 years — has new shop front but we found it . Food was lovely nice and fresh and Piping Hot .Only Thing I Missed Was they don’t do hot Drinks now use to love their Hot Mugs of Tea for the Winter with your sit Down Food . Loved the piping hot Bread nice Portions of Food .👍 up from us . Thankyou

¡Qué decepción! No soy amante de las nuevas máquinas que han instalado en los mejores momentos, pero la visita de hoy ha sido la peor hasta ahora. De lo sublime a lo ridículo: un chocolate caliente negro al 65 % que era tan débil que era como beber agua de vajilla, y un chai latte que era tan fuerte que era increíble. ¡Asegúrense de M&S! Esperaremos hasta que lleguemos a casa para una bebida caliente la próxima vez.

Mi familia (5 de nosotros) vino a almorzar hoy, ninguna de las comidas era tan caliente, chaqueta de patata estaba fría. Pedí que nos dieran una patata caliente, tomó más de quince minutos para conseguir esto. Se quejó al personal del bar se le dijo que reembolsaría, pero luego se negó a porque empezamos a comer la patata chaqueta nueva cuando llegó. Ni una disculpa. Atención al cliente impactante. Muy disgustado.

It is always a pleasure to come here and buy a high quality good value fish and chips tea. The staff are excellent in every way and make every customer feel special. And there is no problem with cash only as there is a cash machine close by.

Hemos visitado Parkstone y Heatherlands bastantes veces recientemente para tomar una copa y comer algo. Por lo general la comida es bastante buena teniendo en cuenta el precio, pero en nuestra última visita el 14 de febrero de 2025 mi comida era terrible. La mitad de mis papas fritas estaban frías y no se cocinaron correctamente y mi envoltura de Schwarma de pollo era muy grasienta y empapada de salsa o grasa. ¡Fue terrible y dejé la mayor parte! ¡Me ha retrasado la visita de nuevo!

Acaba de llegar a tomar café. El café más débil con escoria flotando encima. La decoración es de , plástico con un ambiente de hogar de cuidados.

Had a lovely tasty 3 course meal, lovely service ,Olivia P was very attentive. Highly recommended.

We visited again the following week. This time we had fish and chips. The service was friendly and helpful. The food arrived hot, plentiful and delicious. Thank you for your good service.
