Front of counter staff did not let us know breakfast had finished. The breakfast menus was still up. Changed order to a sandwich not asked what type of bread. Menu said salad garnish and on a bloomer bread but it came with a packet of crisps. and sad white cheap presliced bread.. A rubbish experience.

An ignorant and balding gentlemen rudely pushed past me and my 98 year old grandmother he was red in the face, had sweat patches and was wiping it with a napkin. I went to Complain only to find out that he was the restaurant manager! So they pointed me in the direction of the garden centre manager who was sat on the floor with a big builders bum talking on the phone, it looked like a children’s nursery area I will never return again

I came to this cafe about 10 years ago and had a cheap and cheerful turkey lunch with my mum. It wasn’t posh or fancy, just hearty food at a reasonable price. Fast forward to today, we thought we’d go back but to our surprise, the prices are in excess of what I would pay in a gastro style pub and yet food quality is actually worse. It’s just a plain carvery with very overcooked plain vegetables. For what you get, the carvery should be about 10.95 but it’s actually 14.95. Go to any other decent pub in otley for a better value lunch.

Food okay, apart from rock hard cauliflower cheese. Poor staff service, reminded me of school dinners. “Move along” one staff member told an elderly couple. Needs improvement. It lets down the garden centre that is very good.

This used to be a regular family treat and trip out - a look around the garden centre, buy too many plants and other gifts and nice enough lunch at Hattie’s. We have been to the new restaurant (now Tong garden centre) several times and it is uninspiring and way too expensive. Pushed the boat out last week and had the carvery (way over priced at £14.95). What a disappointment. Poor roasties and watery gravy and everything tasted totally bland. Felt totally ripped off. The tables are slow to be cleared and they forget to clean the sills next to the window so it’s not even inviting. We will pop into Otley next time or - sadly - just stop coming here. The plants are also over-priced and the toilets smelly. The checkouts were dead. They really need to turn this place around and quickly. It could be fantastic - people love a great garden centre. Alas, it will have lost a lot of customers already.

Well, I know it would be busy as it was lunchtime but there were several staff either chatting or standing/floating around and trying to look busy. I heard a lot of people complaining about this. So the service for hot food was very slow. Eventually one person came on to serve; there were plenty of others about who avoided taking station - even a person I took to be the restaurant manager who decided after a fair bit to do a couple of dishes of chips! That said the menu, although basic & standard lunchtime fare, was plentiful well-cooked and tasty. The hot food was reasonably priced but as with previous visits other items such as sandwiches, cakes etc seemed overpriced. The serving staff who were working were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of seating and fairly comfortable.

I really can’t understand how this can actually be run as a business. The hot food laid out like an old motorway service station, under lights and looks like it’s been there ages. Sandwiches bland and boring fillings in bland and boring bread. Sometimes you can get a jacket spud, sometimes you can’t. Earlier in the week I had a ‘salad nicoise’. It was tinned tuna, hard boiled egg, a few bits of tomato and cucumber, couple of bits of boiled potato, all piled on a bed of out of the bag leaves. No dressing available. Since when is that a salad nicoise? I thought the rest of it was hiding underneath, it wasn’t … plus it was over £9! Only vaguely healthy and edible option available. I don’t begrudge paying £9 or more for a decent salad! Friend picked up a lemon meringue pie, but after having a look, put it back as it was dry round the edges. She had scone which was ‘ok’. Drinks fine. Staff are usually young and not over interested in the food or the customers. A kind of ‘computer says no’ attitude. No slur on young workers at all, just an observation in this case. It is clean though, I’ll give them that. Unlike the revolting toilets, but they’re in the garden centre itself. This place could be a goldmine. It’s owned by the Tongue Garden Centre group now. The cafés in their other branches are excellent, but for some reason they’ve overlooked Otley. Great shame. After your shopping, go in to Otley and support all the lovely independent cafés. See you there!

I am here at the moment with my Mum and daughter , we purchased 2 hot carvary baps, which are literally a beef sandwich and chips. When we sat down an elderly gentleman came over to our table, he said that he'd ordered 2x bacon sandwich at a hefty price (I might add) and this was to big for him, he didn't realise what he was getting. Why on earth they didn't explain to him , I don't know 😕... anyway I don't think that we'll be back. The gentleman went home with what he couldn't eat.

The scone was wrapped in plastic and obviously not home made or fresh. Latte and hot chocolate were fine from a machine. We got there about 3.30pm. Service was poor and staff seemed to be more interested in looking at their watches for home time rather than greeting customers. Moping around your chairs and vicinity whilst drinking coffee not conductive to a nice experience. Was hardly cheap costing over £12 for 2 ropey fruit scones a small latte and a hot chocolate. Not great and won't be back 😕

Visited Otley and decided to go for a quick snack, we chose Hattys as we have been before when it was Stephen H Smiths. We decided to have a sandwich, but when we saw the price, £5.45 for a ham sandwich, we decided to share one. The ham was miniscule, not even covering the bread, cut thin and looked very unappetising. It was served with a very small garnish of salad. Certainly not value for money and won't be returning. The garden centre itself was also uninspiring, much better when it was Stephen H Smiths.

We visited here before the take over, when it was still Stephen Smiths, the meal had been very good then so we thought we would have another visit, disappointing to say the least! We ordered a chicken and bacon Mayo sandwich with salad, a panini and 2 portions of chips with a pot of tea. The sandwich had to be collected along with the tea and the hot food was brought to the table. So the cold sandwich sat on our table whilst waiting for chips etc. Odd how they weren’t all delivered together. The “hot”food was only luke warm, but tasted ok. The tables aren't wiped down between customers. I watched a member of staff clear a table then wipe the crumbs into her hand and onto the tray. No spray and wipe as you would expect. The garden centre is ok but just feels like a big shed and the whole thing in comparison to its sister centre Tong, is sadly lacking. Hopefully they will get their act together as there is major room for improvement!

We are regular visitors of Stephen Smith's garden centre in Harden and always eat in Hattie's restaurant there which we find to be friendly, warm and welcoming with very reasonably priced meals and cakes. We visited Otley recently and thought we would have coffee and cakes in Hattie's situated in the Stephen Smith's garden centre there. We walked through to the restaurant only to find very little choice in the way of cakes - there were small slices of cake (emphasis on small!) at £4.45 per slice! We then read the menu and the coffees we would normally drink were £3.05! We were a party of 4 and it would have cost us £17.80 for the cake and £12.20 for four coffees - a total of £30! ...... £30! 😳😳😳 We came away and ate elsewhere for far less. We don't understand why their prices are sooo high compared to the prices charged in Harden?!

For the second weekend in a row we have gone to hatties for lunch and both times have been awful quite honestly. Yesterday at 1500 we ordered sandwiches from the menu that stated they were available until 1545 (they close at 1700). However none of the staff knew what time they were serving food until and it was as though we were putting them out by ordering food! We were not the only ones that had to wait in line whilst our server went to find out if they were still serving food! They seemed far more interested in cleaning and customers seemed to be an interruption to this. We felt completely unwelcome and were treated as a nuisance. The staff were not friendly and the customer service was appalling. For example the waitress that brought our food literally put it on the table and walked off without asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything or even speaking to us! As this is the same experience we have had two weekends in a row we won’t be back.

Have visited many times over the years but today the experience was totally unprofessional and unacceptable. On arrival my father who suffers with poor mobility, made a visit to the disabled toilet where he found the floor dangerously wet and the toilet flusher broken. He went to report this to a male at the cash tills of the garden centre who basically didn’t give a damn from his body language, whilst the lad on the next till found it highly amusing and laughed throughout. We proceeded to Hatties. On arriving at the cold drinks machine I was met by no full sugared coke, so I walked down to the fridge to find no bottled coke or Pepsi. I find this discriminationary and totally unacceptable as I, along with other people, have a medical condition of a high intolerance to sugar free food and drink as it makes me extremely ill. Regardless of my medical condition it is MY CHOICE to have a drink of my choice. The restaurant was full of teenage staff, as we approached the till to pay for the food and drink, the young girl disappeared meaning we had to wait till she returned sometime later as the hoard of teenagers behind the service area were far too busy chatting to notice a customer wanted to pay. It took five attempts to find a half decent table to sit at as they had not been cleaned, and on paying at the garden centre tills we were met by another cluster of teenagers chatting about their social lives. Needless to say we will not be returning to hatties or he garden centre.

Self Service - the checkout for the tills was very slow - not helped by them shutting 1 till line when still people queing. I would expect the place to be frustrating if it was busy say at weekends. Food reasonably priced. Comfortable and clean seating - but it was quiet when we went ( still a queue at the checkout though as I mentioned. The garden centre is rather pricey and no longer has a pet / aquarium section so not a place to pop in for general gardening needs and the cafe is not a place to make a special effort to go to just for itself.

Reluctantly settled for a ham sandwich for hubby and a cheese and tomato panini for me and both were really good. Nice bit of salad to go with it too. Hubby is very fussy but he was very happy his ham sandwich. Bread was fresh and the ham tasty. We also shared a generous apple pie - pretty good. I always like the atmosphere in Hatties, plenty of space to get around the chairs for a disabled person. Nice to have a wander around the garden centre afterwards too. staff very pleasant and helpful.

Come regularly for coffee and scone but find it disconcerting that staff start sweeping up and mopping the floor at 3 15pm everytime we are there. Makes us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.

A typical restaurant in a garden centre we were pleased to take our aged aunt who was in a wheelchair. There were 7 of us and we put two tables together. Service was a bit slow at the till but quality was good but not cheap. Atmosphere was decent and ambience decent. The main thing was we all enjoyed the lunch and we were not rushed. Pretty good.

Just stopped for hot drinks whilst shopping, they seem to have all the right equipment, but the coffees were very average, and the mocha not warm enough.

An outing to Stephen H Smith’s enormous and diverse Garden Centre to look for Christmas presents was quite successful so we stopped off at their Hattie’s restaurant for a quick bite, that turned into quite a long bite.

Saturday lunch for 3 people cost £37. Two of the party got lunch immediately when they had almost finished eating I received my overcooked battered fish. It was so dry that it was almost just batter. Then the elderly lady we were with wanted cheese cake. The joke of a manager said the portion which was narrower than a match box was almost £4.00 because it was gluten free. What an excuse!! We won't be back in a hurry

This place is great, there's loads of choice of hot and cold food, and drinks, and the seating area is spacious and plentiful. Food generally very good, no complaints, although they once did make my omelette extremely salty, cheese with loads of extra added salt! I put that down to a one-off though. Prices are quite high but portion sizes are generous. Breakfast probably not worth if you get a cooked breakfast as they are priced expensive for what you get.

This is a quaint little retro place in Otley Road Leeds .You cannot park outside so use the Sainsbury's car park nearby .Tucked away in a row of shops when you go in it takes you back to your youth ,with retro fold tables, wooden chairs and tables and the staff are very very friendly .As you go in order and take a seat either upstairs or downstairs. The pictures on the walls are for sale so if it takes your fancy go for it.This is a nice place for Tea,coffee and very reasonably priced .My recommendation is try the Freakshake Its diabetes in a mug .Probably 3000 calories but what the hell its to die for .If in Leeds definitely one place to visit for a milkshake ,or Freakshake if you dare .

I've visited Hatties several times recently with my parents and have been very happy each time. Our particular favourite is the salad bar...a wide range of different salads including cous cous, pasta, homemade coleslaw, various chopped and interestingly flavoured vegetable mixtures..always something different to try. The addition of olives, mixed seeds, flavoured breads with olive oil, salami and cheese added a 'tapas vibe' today. The staff are always kind and helpful. The manager is much in evidence and happy to explain the different options and combinations available. The hot food options do look tempting but my parents and I enjoy choosing from the rainbow of salads which complemented the huge portion of home made quiche.Paticular thanks to the young lady who helped look after my dad, sitting us in a cool area and providing some much needed water and sympathy.Hatties is well worth a visit. We wil be back!!

Stopped on our way home for toilet and butty stop. Had to get takeaway as dogs weren't allowed in. We got bacon buns but by the time I got out to the car they were cold (don't know if they were hot to start with) coffee machine not working so had to have filter coffee which we don't like, so all in all not over enamoured with this place!!

I wonder if there is some confusion over this venue as there are several references to a garden centre which is obviously a mistake. We love this place. The décor is charming and the staff lovely. The breakfast is a feast and I have no hesitation in giving it an excellent review.

Took my parents for lunch to the wilsden centre and once again a lovely lunch, it was quite busy as it was Easter holidays but the service is excellent and the staff all friendly and efficient. We had the traditional fish and chips, jacket potato with tuna mayo and Brie/bacon panini. The salad which comes with your panini & jacket is really well presented, selection of leaves, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, pepper. This place is as good as pub food and reasonably priced. Three meals with 2 cappuccinos and a pot of tea £25. Plenty of seating areas and lovely surroundings, will be back.

Popped in for coffee and a toasted tea cake with a friend. There was plenty of space and we sat on a sofa so we could relax and have a good chat. The tea cakes arrived hot and with plenty of butter. The coffee was nice and my friends tea was served just as she ordered with the tea bag on the side not in the pot (she likes it weak!)

The place looks nice, very floral, ruined by dozens of filthy tables and I was sat on a sticky seat. Looked at the menu, saw an "ALL DAY" breakfast, went up to the till and was served by a very rude lady who said Breakfast were not being served (it says 11:30 on the menu, but yet why say ALL DAY in big letters if it is not??) Went back to my seat, and decided I wanted the moz ciabatta with chips. Chips had stopped being served. This was 2.00pm. So decided I wanted beans instead, we got a Cappucino and a Latte, the Cappucino tasted of rusty drain water with "froth" on top and the latte was cold. Food arrived, a ciabatta with cold beans and a load of crisps (was that to make up for the chips?) Tomato's were bland and tasteless and the salad tasted of soil. Despite the piling tables of dirty plates, there were loads of staff standing around, talking and not working. Stay well clear of here.

Having visited other Hatties restaurants we were incredibly disappointed. 3 year old hit his head on the tray rail and when I asked for an ice pack the response came across as very rude. No ice packs were available (I would have thought this was standard in a first aid kit!) and was told I only have wet clothes which we used to try and manage the bruise and bump that was forming. When the staff member saw the bump that was forming she did start to warm up. While we were there we also saw staff members rolling their eyes at customers over silly things like customers "being in their way". This is not at all what I would have expected from a Hatties! Sort out your first aid kits, train your staff in how to deal with injuries and some may need a refresher on basic customer service I.e eye rolling is NOT acceptable.

Over £20 for 2 jacket potatoes drinks and small kids sandwich! Jacket potatoes hard cold lacking in taste in fact it was that cold the cheese did not melt on it. No sour cream provided with chilli filling as stated on menu. Perhaps the jackets were warmed up from before as skin was very tough. Disappointing.

When this restaurant first opened several years ago after a massive makeover and expansion, it was fabulous. It had attentive, helpful staff, great food served at the counter or cooked (quickly) to order, fast service at the tills etc. Now you get staff with bad attitudes and zero training in food or customer service, cold food, dried up cakes, queues at the till meaning food and drinks that were already cold get even colder, hugely expensive dishes that are not even worthy of a staff canteen or greasy spoon cafe. Could have still been fabulous all these years but they just don't care as people still keep going.
