Mr Rams & Mrs Cod in Chelmsford

A small place selling fast food. We ate in before going to the cinema. Food was nicely cooked and service was quick and polite . For the price the value was above expectations. I expect it can get busy due to its excellent location so if queues annoy you then avoid and go somewhere else. I like this place.

I ordered the mix Kebab lamb Doner and Chicken Doner It literally came in a small salad pot couldn’t believe my eyes. The smallest kebab I’ve ever had in my whole entire life.

Do not order from them online. Took my money via their website. No food arrived. No one answering the phone. No reply to emails asking for refund.

Food did not come pay £60 got no food and the owner call me a liar I email him and no response do not order food from there disgusting customer service

Delivery of Cold greasy food. £24 WASTED. Food shared between the dog and the bin. Will never use them again.

Ordered jumbo sausage and large chips,had 23 dry and shriveled chips and a part cooked sausage.Did not notice till I got home, sausage went in the bin and eat half the chips.Used them in the past but this was taking the piss.

Used to be a decent reasonably priced establishment but since the new owners took over the prices have literally doubled and the portions got smaller. I know we have 10% inflation but that does not justify the overnight price increases of up to 30/40%. I have been a regular customer for many years but will be voting with my feet in future & hope everybody else does the same.

Got a home delivery, will never order again gave us all an upset stomach. The lamb Shish had no flavour whats so ever and the mayonnaise sauce was like water. Absolutely disgusting

Never again ordered food paid by card food never arrived and was told not allowed money back staff was very threatening and rude told me they had called my number 4 times never happened

The driest hot wings you’ll ever eat, or should I say crunch…should call em crunchy salt wings, and the amount of salt on em will dry you up quicker than the Sahara!! Clearly been sitting around for a day or two with plenty of re-heating, well I won’t be re-eating here. I’ve eaten cereals with less crunch to em, make sure you have ya dentist on speed dial!!

This fish and chip shop has definitely gone downhill. Portions are really small and the large cod and chips was more like a small. Plus expensive. Vast difference than they used to be. Sorry but I won't be returning

DISAPPOINTING.. it’s like ‘make your own kebab’ all the ingredients come separately and you put them together. You even have to cut the pitta bread!!’ The doner meat was chunky, the chips were more like thick potato wedges and the sauces were watery. Have used this takeaway for many years but it has gone downhill and won’t be using again!!!

It looks like it has recently changed hands with the detriment of quality. Grubby looking people serving greasy low quality chips with plenty of eyes and skin left on them. Fish was ok. No pensioners special as advertised in the window. Okay I suppose if you want something to fill you up after you have had a skin full of beers.

2 hour wait for food - 4 phone calls - complete lies as to where the food was - when it arrived (having been promised they use "hot stones" to keep food hot) the food was unsurprisingly stone cold - phoned again to say I was not going to pay for iced stoge -Adrian said that he would refund it to my credit card - two weeks later - surprise surprise - no money back! They lie lie lie.... We stupidly tried again last weekend with my wife going in to the shop and they tried to over charge her by saying there was new prices - different to the prices on the wall - they tried this crime with the person in front of her and the one behind- absolute con.... They apparently claim they can't understand - funny that! I'm not going back after a good 25 years of use... I assume they have new people/ criminals running this.... Great shame given they used to have the best kebabs and cheesy chips in town!

Absolutely disgusting. I will upload a pic of the chips I ordered. looked like they were bottom of the barrel and they were gritty like they weren’t clean. then to top it all off we paid £3+ pounds for this rubbish.

We had a takeaway from these on Friday and yet again an item was missing from the order. When we phoned to query there was no attempted delivery, no refunded delivery, nothing !!. We had to go to the store ourselves despite paying for delivery and pick up the missing item. When we get there, they offer you a drink as compensation. We usually use these people at least twice a week, but no more. I assume its changed hands as the customer service is awful !!.

I then ate said collect Kabab. Pic 3 Then at 19:20 I was called to state that I hadn’t picked up order and paid. They stated that I had to pay, I declined the second order as they had fulfilled my only order with payment. They were rude and believed that I had not come in I describe my appearance, who I spoke to, all the time they insisted I pick up the order and pay. I stated they were trying to “fleece me” and stated that I would turn to social media. Just for concern if I had booked a collection and collected why undertake a second order 50mins late! We had a delivery today, one item of which was missing (as has happened before), and the chips were lukewarm and portions were inconsistent (we had 5 small portions).

Been going for many years - was the best. But appears to changed hands. Rude staff, most standing about. One person serving who was more in retested in phone orders, no other staff to assist. Finally ordered Lamb kabab - lamb gristley and not as nice and tender as before. New chilli daisy hot ( ok) but salty. Fish portion for a large was small. And the chips were chunky and not cooked enough so under cooked inside. Afraid will not be returning. Where have the original owners gone ?

I placed an order through just eat and my expected delivery wait time was an hour and 15 minutes (I only live a 10 minute walk away), but it never arrived at all and it would appear that no one who works for this company,...

Allied with a kebab joint in a walk-through next door shop in Chelmsford's still slghtly sleazy cosmopolatan Moulsham Street it's all that you love in a chippy.

So I give this place numerous chances and each time they just confirm how awful they are. Terrible service, cold food and very disappointing ting service when you call and say the order is wrong CHEAP and for good reason DONt ORDER!!!!!!

Ordered from here for delivery via their app. Our experience was absolutely awful from start to end. Driver had no clue at all when delivering and tried to give us 2 different wrong orders first. Wouldn’t believe it was wrong without us opening and him...

Honestly ridiculous we ordered food for three people paid for sauce and got 1 sachet we called and asked if they could bring some more and also complained as our food was cold and he laughed at me and said no we’re not delivering sauce...

I have rarely had a problem with Mrs Cod over the years apart from the odd late delivery, but last night what an absolute farce. Ordered online at 19.52 estimated arrival 20.35 rang after an hour and was told they'd never received the order and would have to contact Just Eat for a refund. Then tried to place new order but the chap on the phone said my card was declined twice another 40 minutes trying to get through to my bank to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with the card - there wasn't it was because they were pressing the wrong button saying I was in the shop when I wasn't. Huge relief, card is still good. So here I am out of pocket trying to get a refund. I have one app open still saying estimated delivery and on another deice saying food delivered. FOOD NEVER ARRIVED. Mrs Cod please speak to Just Eat and get this sorted. Be very careful how you order and if over the phone make sure they know how to operate the card machine.

this was a take away, came early, fish was 90% greasy batter, ribs were bone, missing garlic bread and salad.

Longtime patron of this establishment, often after merry nights in Chelmo but have paid many sober visits as well! Excellent range of food from classic fish & chips to kebabs as the name suggests, but also burgers, pizzas, fried chicken and others (battered Mars bars are a fond memory of this place for me!). Some of the other reviews may be saying the quality isn't great here to which I disagree... I've never had a bad experience with this place and would class this joint above a lot of others in Chelmsford, the burgers I've always thought particularly highly of here. Prices are fair and the staff are always willing to cater to specific requests! If you want fine dining then go elsewhere but if your belly is rumbling and you're craving some of that feelgood fast food then this place more than fits the bill!

Ordered online at 23:30 food was due to arrive at 00:20. It is now 02:00am and the food still has not arrived. I rung the shop 3 times and every time they said it was on its way I doubt that it was ever cooked. Food Never arrived and I was lied to by the restaurant. Absolutely unacceptable, they have lost a customer for good

On Friday June 26th, I made an order through Just Eat for £16.30. We were due at a friend's that evening, so I ordered early at 5.15pm. The online confirmation showed an estimated delivery of 6pm. At 5.50pm, I received the usual automated phone call to say that our order was on its way. From 6.15pm onwards, I tried phoning to see where it had got to but it was engaged every time. By 6.40pm (we were due at our friend's at 7pm), we had given up waiting and so my wife started to cook something instead. At 6.50pm the driver turned up with the food. I told him it was far too late and we didn't want it and to take it back and tell the restaurant we wanted a full refund. Not only that, we don't know that it hadn't been in the car since the automated call at 5.50pm!On Sunday, I phoned the restaurant and asked about the refund. Whilst the person I spoke to didn't speak brilliant English, he confirmed that he would be able to give me a refund as I had ordered through Just Eat. We are now nearly three weeks down the line and no refund has been forthcoming.It is a shame because I have used R&C many times in the past and like their food. However, on the back of this experience and £16.30 paid for nothing in return, I will not be going back there. On Monday night this week I used Favourite Grill instead. The food arrived half an hour earlier than estimated and was excellent. Therein lies the difference.

Meal was nasty cold and waterie made me feel very ill next day they said they would credit it but when I thought I would give them another chance but order was declined they've gone very down hill used to be good when it was just Mrs cod what a shame

In this time of Covid-19 I don't think it's a good idea to have 5-6 people working behind the counter with no gloves or protection . All working on top of one another. Not a good advert for health & hygiene. Won't go back.

Not happy about the order today as I ordered through just eat and given the current situation the whole of just eat is contactless delivery, he knocked on the door so I went to the door and instead of walking away he gave it to me in hand, the portion sizes are tiny! And for how much I paid there should of been a considerable amount more, the salad was a little pot half full, and the kebab wasn’t even enough to feed a infant, certainly gone down hill this place, a shame really as I used to be a regular here.... not any more

Waited 2 and a half hours for our delivery, no apology and lied to me when I called to check where our food was. When it arrived it was just about warm and the chips were horrible. The delivery driver, knowing I wasn’t happy most probably, was rude. I will never order from them again. Avoid!

Visited Mrs Cod on a Saturday night and ordered large cod and large chips twice.Got home to discover the cod was fine but there was only about 10 chips! Very disappointed as i have been a customer for years.Have now lost my custom due to being very stingy!

Well. Where can I start?I have ordered food on their app and it said 30 to 45 mins. We were alright with that.BUT NO. 1 hour and 40minutes late.The food was cold. The pizza was disgusting and the chicken on it was really dry.The driver was really rude.I work in the customer service industry and this is not how you keep your customers. I am a waiter and a chef.Never going back here again.

The food I received tonight was totally amazing, hot and excellent value for money. Unfortunately the server forgot to put the chips in and pizza, spare ribs and hotwings just cannot be eaten without chips!! However, this wasn’t a problem as the lovely driver went to the chippy just round the corner from me and got me some chips! That’s what I call service - lovely guy - thank you

We have been a number of times in the year we have lived here but won't be going back again. About 2 months ago, after buying takeaway, myself, husband and son were really sick. Thought it could be coincidence and maybe we had a bug. Tried again this week, I was very sick. A bit of investigation found that restaurant has hygiene rating of 1 (major improvement is necessary). Best avoided

We have used mr rams home delivery for a while now with no problem or complaint.

We ordered and it took over an hour with 3 items missing, called and they said they’d get it straight out. Food finished now and it’s been half an hour since we called about the missing food! Terrible. Won’t be returning.

Went to Mr Rams after a night out, my fiancée ordered a kebab which looked pretty good, however I ordered a large Ram burger (burger & lamb kebab meat) which cost £5. To our mistake we ordered this as a take away an when we got home and I open my burger it was just a normal 1/4 pounder burger with no kebab meat what so ever!! Probably should’ve cost me £2! I was incredibly disappointed and in future will always check my meal before leaving to make sure I have got what I’ve paid for! Genuinely feel ripped off after this visit!

First of all I ordered my food to be delivered at 7.45 dident get here till 8.15... 2nd of all the delivery driver went to wrong address and I was standing outside my flat he went to get back into his car lucky I called over and asked 3rdly he was on the phone to someone so find that quite rude 4thly food was cold and 5thly food was dry! Won't be ordering from here again!!

Ordered 2 kebabs and chips for my girlfriend and I!!

I bought a mixed doner kebab from Mr Rams accompanied by good old-fashioned chips from Mrs Cod. I enjoyed a really tasty kebab that was a lot less greasy/fatty than others I've bought. This, together with a decent portion of proper fish and chip shop chips, made for a really enjoyable take away meal. Friendly, efficient service, good food, and good value mean I'll be returning.

Not great lamb & chicken donors I've had. A little bland and dry for my liking. But Mrs Cod next door always hits the spot.

This takeaway is in a prime location on Moulsham Street. I like to grab lunch from here and take it home and enjoy the feast. The guys working here are friendly and will cater to your requests. I like my lamb doner well done and they obliged. I got the mixed one with half lamb and half chicken shawarma. The hot suave is great and the pickled peppers are tasty. Great food, good prices and friendly service. On my top 5 list in Chelmsford.

excellent choice, food delivered and it arrives hot. been a customer for nearly 20 years and rarely had a duff meal. we were requested to have a delivery for my son's 10th birthday by him.

Always find myself in mr rams after a night out. Have never not enjoyed a meal here the food Is always served quick, fresh, good value and tasty, the place is always clean although could do with a makeover. Opens late every night and the staff are extremely friendly. Have a really good relation with the regular customers always greeted with a hand shake or a gesture. Not sure if they're all family but they seem to work like a close knit family.

The fish and chips was nice and well enjoyed. I found the plastic seating very uncomfortable for a larger person. Staff were friendly however a confusion with my order. Will go again.

For a number of years we have been going to Mrs Cod for our Fish and Chips. Also tried many other Fish and Chips shops in Chelmsford, but we always return to Mrs Cod again. A large cod is indeed large, and the batter is nice and crispy.

Generally good is good but customer service over the phone is appallingly bad - ordered for kebab meat and buns for 4 people - received the kebab meat - buns and salad- but a salad for 1 person - I rang them - not to complain but to say 'look this has happened - please can you be aware of it'

Mouth-watering, literally. I love the way the word 'fusion' is thrown around to promote fine dining. I had 'con-fusion'. My taste buds didn't know which way to turn, they didn't want to move on from the current joy to the next in case it fell below par. Quite simply, it didn't. With every chew it took me to a different place, a different happy memory was jogged, I almost reached utopia. When banqueting with friends or entertaining clients in the heart of Chelmsford's fine city, look no further.

Lovely bit of tradition fish n chips, batter not too thick, fish lovely and white (skin on) . Chips well cooked and fresh. Must have a gripe about a can of coke for £1.00We all know they're only approx 25p a can from suppliers. I think if your paying out for fish n chips the least you can do is make it easy.on the drinks. 4 children cans is £4 same price nearly as fish n chips.

Their menu says you get a free bottle of solt drink with every order over £20. Our order was for £28, they asked us what flavour drink we wanted, we told them...the order arrived but NO DRINK. Asked the driver, he said they would send it later: STILL WAITING !!! THIEVES, RIP-OFF MERCHANTS, DISHONEST. Trading standards have been informed. This is not the first time this has happened to us here either.

We ordered a home delivery and very much enjoyed the kebabs, salad and pizza, that arrived timely. The meat was real tasty, both the lamb and the chicken, and our son rapidly devoured his pizza. Will surely order again from this renowned central Chelmsford takeaway.

I've ordered from this place before. I ordered a chicken shish kebab which looked like it was cooked 2 days ago, no option on their app for salad so arrived with no salad. I called up asking for a refund, they argued saying that I didn't state I wanted salad but there is no option! They agreed to finally give me a refund which I paid on card, they turned up to refund me in cash without no apologies on the phone or in person. They then said they needed to take back my food which was long gone in the bin!!!! They then said that the council doesn't take the bin straight away and acting like it was funny when it clearly wasn't, and very unprofessional! I wasn't going to allow some random man in my house to look at my bin or even dig out this kebab out of the bin. Therefore, I did not end up getting a refund or what I wanted! I will for sure never be ordering from them again!!!

People who run it are prejudice and said that gay people are not normal. Not very impressed considering we are paying customers. Must do better. Shocking.

Good place for a takeaway kebab or an after night out snack. Guys in there have a bit of banter, and prices are decent. Good isn't great health wise, but obviously it's a kebab shop so you expect it! Chicken wrap with salad and garlic sauce from Rams is the one to get!!

Started off pretty well as app was impressive, however order was not delivered and we had to ring up the shop. Coincidently my order had just been processed meaning we would have to wait another hour. We had been told there was no charge on delivery as my address was in catchment however we had to pay £4. When the food arrived the chicken strips we ordered only came as three and definitely wasn't worth the price. Chips are good lol

Had a large doner Kebab and contracted very serious food poisoning. Question mark whether the meat is halal despite the staff saying it is.

Saw advert in window for early bird $1.50 sausage & chips. I thought it wouldn't be up to much and it wasn't.Sausage was rock hard & didn't taste of meat and the chips must of been the dregs they have saved up for days to offload as chips.When I told them how awful it was I just got a load of verbal and what did I expect .Avoid like the plague

This place has became an institution, if I move away from Chelmsford, this is one of the places I would go to, if I visit. Take away only, tend to be popular late at night after a few drinks or 5. Friendly faces, like the sheesh kebab and the chilli sauce. They have burger, chips, fried chicken, doner, fish and chips, etc. Good place to wait for taxi too for lone females. They look after you.Look, it's not healthy food here but at that time of the nights and at your current state, surely eating healthily is not your main issue, is it..... lol.

We ordered our takeaway on a Sunday evening and were told it would arrive within an hour. After waiting for an hour and a half we called up to be told the order was on its way. The person we spoke to was rude and said he was too busy to talk to me. I was told they were 'unable to tell their customers they were busy and to expect the order to potentially be longer than an hour'. We asked to a manager, which we were refused telling us they were too busy. They refused money off our order telling us it was 'not their fault'. All I ask is that they tell us a more realistic time instead of making their customers wait two times the estimated time. After 2 hours of waiting we called again and insisted we spoke to a manager. We were then finally offered money off after we pushed and pushed due to their poor service. The food was extremely greasy and stone cold by the time it arrived. I will definitely not be returning. Absolutely awful customer service and below average food.

Service is good and friendly staff chips are good kebab was lovely plenty portion size with chips and kebab fill all of us up will use again.

We have just received our order from Rams and Cod and half of it was missing. No salad and No Jalapeños on the the pizza. This is totally unacceptable....and we will never ever order from this place again, nor would we recommend this place to friends. Simply awful......and when the salad arrived....it was barely enough to feed a sparrow! One star for the food....a full refund would be better!

I always drive to Moulsham Street for take-a-way fish and chips ,even though there is a fish shop within walking distance from where I live. It is worth the 7 minute drive for the quality of the food.I have never had to wait more than a few minutes to get served .

This place has been about donkey's years and I have never once been disappointed. Whether your feeling low or high you know these catering giants will be there to serve you. If you are looking for a good fish and chip shop then look no further as the do an epic henry VIII style portion. However where their strengths lie is the fast food at the end of a cheeky night out. They offer an jaw dropping amount of options a sedative batter in sausage, glowing fried chicken and alurring pizza slices and its all served promptly and with a smile. I have graced this business so many times they are no longer just staff but family. In terms of late night fas foodt places they can only be described as the mo farah of fast foods or quorn should I say haha. They have kept up with the times and have a minimalist style of decor and excellent ceiling. Every-time I go there I reach euphoria and know the dish served will be epic. Keep it up

I tried traditional fish n chips in many places, but this place definitely scored in amongst the best taste I had. Though the sitting arrangements were not vey cmfy type or restaurant grade, but it served the purpose of having a quick bite. chicken doner from the other side of the shop is a must try. Overall nice experience. Would like to visit again.

my boyfriend and I go there regularly after a night out and staff are as rude as hell always taking the mick. appalling considering we give them money that keep them in business. they are only open because of the business they get late at night I think they should rethink how they treat their customers. Don't want to serve us then don't stay open late at night. Simple. oh and the food is only good after a night out, I would avoid it during the day. robinsons down the road is a much better fish and chip shop, the food is nice and the staff are friendlier

The food was terrible, actually inedible. The salad was swimming in water, leaked all over the car, the kebab was very greasy to the point the pitta bread was inedible, kebab meat was full of gristle. The staff were rude (i went in for food, not looking for cheap horny Turks) arrogant and looked like a bit of soap and water wouldnt go amiss. Would rather starve than return.
