A lovely experience with Tracey! She was very catering to our table and provided a lovely service to me and my friend Amy on a sunday evening.

Had a lovely time here with my friends. I had the chicken burger it was really tasty and my friends had the chicken parmigiana which looked lovely. I could not fault anything. Service was top tier from Amy and amber. They are a great asset to the fox and raven team.

Waiting for a drink the bar took ages. Order food and it took nearly an hour. People where in the restaurant Waiting longer than us. Will never return again.. Make sure you eat before you come here

Food was mediocre, definitely will not be returning and we usually leave a tip but we had already spent over £100. On the plus side the waitress was very friendly and professional and I requested sitting somewhere quiet and we had a lovely table and atmosphere. It’s such a shame the facade of the building didn’t match the food that was provided. Maybe it was just a bad day like we all get now and again.

The Atmosphere of the country pub was very wholesome and cozy! As we sat down, we were greeted by a lovely waiter who took our drinks order and then our food order. We heard that the Sunday Trio was worth trying however, we were soon informed that it had run out. We then tried to order something else and it was a lot of back and forth from the waiter and the kitchen to find out what was available! We waited around an hour until our food was served, which was a little disheartening but sitting and talking with good company made the wait speed up. The food looked great when it arrived; I ended up having the burger and fries, but unfortunately, the fries tasted very stale and starchy, which may be a sign of some fries that have been sitting a little. The burger was nice and also the slow cooked brisket, but for the value I would argue that there are other burgers in chelmsford that can tick that appetite/ quality box but also for a good value. I did enjoy the dinner and ambience of the pub but I wouldn't recommend revisiting based on the cost to quality ratio of the food.

Popped in on a Saturday lunchtime (the pub was relatively quiet), ordered the”Signature Skewers”, which took a little over 35 minutes to arrive. The food was nice and the waitress was apologetic, but previous experiences have also been long wait times too so be prepared!

Met a friend for lunch around 12-10pm. Only two customers in front of us but only one person taking food orders and serving drinks so took about 10 minutes to get a drink. Found a table outside and both ordered hot beef brisket sandwiches as it sounded really good. A few people that arrived after us got served before we did as it took around 40 minutes to arrive. When it came it was really disappointing the fries were very over cooked and the top slices of bread were almost toasted where they must have sat under a heat lamp for ages,. If it was supposed to be toasted the bottom slices of bread were not. The beef in the sandwich was also very dry. We asked for replacement fries which came exactly the same dark colour and over cooked.. Sad to say it’s got plenty of seating outside so nice for a drink when the weathers good but we won’t eat there again.

Needs more staff the queue at the bar was ridiculous at one point there was no one behind the bar at all. 15 minute wait

Very disappointed, popped in for dinner with our infant daughter, simple order of two burgers and chips. Drinks came out after a while but no food appeared in over an hour so we asked for a refund and left hungry. Staff were courteous and no problem to refund but not good enough 😕

Met a friend for lunch, we had booked a table, that turned out not to be necessary, plenty of tables. Our table was as right by the till and the entrance to that part of the restaurant. We had plenty to talk about, so didn't really notice the service to start with. The girls were all polite and friendly. Food took a while, but was really good. Enjoyed it. Dessert menu arrived, I chose coffee, my friend ordered the mini frighteningly waiting for it. Slow service really let the place down.

We hadn't been to The Fox & Raven for a year due to previous terribly bad service and long waits so thought we would give it another try. We are glad we did. It was a busy time despite it being a Wednesday lunchtime but we were seated immediately and served by the lovely Diane who was very smiley, friendly and professional. We received our drinks and food within half an hour. The fish and chips were very tasty, however for the almost £18 charge there needs to be more chips. When my meal was delivered it only looked like fish on the plate, the very few chips were hidden by the fish. The pub is beautiful and was refurbished very well. We will return!

Staff were really lovely and the food was amazing. We were given enough time to decide from the menu. There was a really great choice. Our waitress was lovely and friendly. I definitely recommend and will be coming back. Thank you!

As always never, never enough staff behind the bar. Just one poor person who had to serve drinks AND take food orders. He did his best but the service was painfully slow. Not acceptable.

Came here for the grease movie night! It was great! Team were lovely, there was a girl wearing a pink ladies jacket! What a lovely touch!

We went there on Monday 19th August, we noticed most of the wine glasses on the table were dirty, my girl friend ordered the fish cakes, that night she got really sick, food poisoning from them. As we have to fly out the next day, it wasn't good for us. I don't recommend this place

Friendly and helpful bar staff. Lovely views out the back. Cutlery and condiments brought out to us. But food was mediocre. It's a shame because it is a lovely place and has great potential. But it has been the same for years. Will choose other venues for food as you can get much better for the same price.

Fancied a rare steak,Rib eye was not rare Pork belly was good Scallops and prawns were good In general, nice and decent. Just annoyed steak wasn’t rare. Wasn’t worth the money.

Our waitress Amy came in as extra help because of how busy it was and she absolutely smashed it. She was so lovely and attentive.

Came for dinner and drinks - half the menu missing , no calamari , no chicken wings , no scallops , no rocket , no asparagus. We also asked for the wifi / the answer was I dunno have a look on your phone. We ordered what we could. We were sitting outside. The food came and we were Told cutlery inside . That is fine , we then asked for mayo and was given an empty bottle. I went to the bar to ask for some more sauce and they said have you tried out the back fridge and I can’t find any more . I went back to eat as I lost hope

Had dinner there this evening (Sunday) which was ok.. some of it was nice, other things, like the beef, tough as old boots.. our waitress was pleasant and reasonably attentive.. however, there was another lady who we believed could be a manager as she was not wearing the black and white that the waitresses were wearing, who was incredibly loud, laughing with the other staff.. nothing wrong with that as such, but when you can’t hear each other speak because of the staff, it is somewhat frustrating. Also, when we left, we walked directly past the same lady and other staff who were still standing chatting and not one of them said thanks or goodbye. I work in hospitality myself and this is a fundamental basic part of the service! It wasn’t as though it was busy, and simply just rude to ignore customers as they leave! Shame as the setting of the restaurant is lovely on a summer evening, overlooking the fields as it does.

Having had the root vegetable wellington at another pub in the chain, I was looking forward to it on Sunday, it really is good I was informed it wasn’t available despite being on the menu. I was offered a nut roast as alternative. It looked like cow pat, was mush and horrible, 2nd choice was an aubergine dish which was even worse My server tried to help, admitted she’d never tried any of these dishes, vintage inn should get staff to sample for feedback My bill was reduced, which was good considering vegan dishes cost the same as meat meals I will go back to the other venue in future

We were served by Ioana, and her service was excellent as she got our orders in the right amount of time, and the food there was amazing I had a Sunday roast with turkey and it tasted great would totally recommend this place to eat at.

Popped in for a Sunday roast late this afternoon. It was terrible. We sat outside to enjoy the sunshine. Ordered 2 roasts. They came out and looked ok. Told we could collect our cutlery and any sauce from a cabinet. We found there were no forks and no salt. Husband went in search of both inside. The meal was like warm at best. The vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were cold. Spoke to someone and our meals were taken back and we think we were given replacements which were hotter. It was all pretty tasteless and I have heard people say, don’t go for a roast late afternoon as it will have been sitting around, kept hot and will be nowhere near as nice as it may have been at lunchtime. We won’t bother again. Shame because it’s lovely inside and the views from the back garden are beautiful.

I have been to the newly refurbished pub three times now, and I can honestly say I've have nothing but praise for the food we were served to the service we received and the atmosphere. In fact we're going again and taking nine others with us for a meal very soon.

Great pub. Dog friendly. Has recently been refurbished to a high standard. We had a Sunday roast (turkey) and would recommend this dish. Nice range of ales, beers and wine. We will be back. Thank you.

The Fox And Raven is a beautiful setting, and I am fortunate to call it my 'local'. Ample parking, a decent menu at not too terrible prices.

Amy was a star the whole evening, very friendly and accommodating of us. Luke and Reggie worked wonders with the food in the kitchen, it was all delightful and I left feeling content and I’m high spirits. Couldn’t have asked for anything more from them this evening🫶

Service was lovely from Amy a total delight to have, the steak was cooked perfectly thanks to Luke and Reggie and the raspberry sorbet was mouth-watering.

Very good food (aubergin gratin, Sunday roast, fish&chips…) and atmosphere, love the garden in the back on a sunny day! Big fan of the flapjack that comes with coffee. We are regulars here and had a great experience with Mel today. Thank you amd see you soon :)

The food was delicious. The dipping sauces that came with the sides and main courses are very tasty. The food pairings complement well. Our server, Hannah, was fast and very friendly.

We had a lovely window seat with beautiful views. Windows and doors were open keeping it it lovely and cool on a very hot sunny day Tues 25th June. Our choice was the 2 course lunch menu which was reasonable priced. There was no herb and mozzarella topping on the aubergine gratin but our waitress solved this as best she could by bringing grated cheese to our table. Amy our waitress was very helpful and friendly. A family consisting of 2 adults and 3 children were on a table to the side of us. They left a terrible mess with food, paper and crayons strewn across the floor. One child had an erupted nappy the contents of which had seeped out onto the newly refurbished dining chair. Amy cleared up quietly and professionally. What a lovely young lady. 5 STARS FOR AMY!

We walked in Saturday evening at 9.30 and asked if we could have bar snacks and drinks. We were told by two staff members that it would be fine, we got seated and were given menus. In a couple of minutes we figured out what we wanted and walked up to the tap to order. The woman who was at the tap told us the kitchen was closed and asked who had suggested that we could still get food... 🤨 maybe it is a good place, but staff should talk to each other to decide when the kitchen closes... needless to say we didn't stay.

I went for lunch today with my friend. Was given a menu at the bar, I wanted a Pacific cocktail, the lady replied oh don't think we do that anymore, most on the menu..I replied well the meus should be changed ! The bar lady just put her head down.. Ordered food from the bar! and a drink Anyway was a bit of a long wait for food When our food had arrived my bacon Avocado salad was badly presented on the plate .. Lots of large leaves of lettuce 2 large pitta bread Few pieces of over cooked streaky bacon and 2 pieces of dry chicken no flavor.. Paid £15.95 wasn't worth it.. Anyway the waitress offered me something else so I went for the fishcakes new potatoes stem broccoli which my friend had.. that was better .. At the end decided to move inside table service to order a mini desert and drink took a while .. firstly the coffee came first.. Then the wrong desert arrived then the bar lady realised brought me the right one ..smiled . Says sorry you got no spoon to eat it with .. So I waited a few minutes no return with the spoon so I got up for myself one instead.. When I've had mini deserts before came together well presented on a long plate . I used to love eating at the Fox and Raven !! Now all changed very slow poor service food was not presented right ... Sorry but I won't be coming back or recommending you'd pub to anyone .. I know there was only one bar attendant and 2 waitress on! No excuse Should explain to their customers if there is going to be a delay on service food!

We did arrive early and we’re going to order a drink while we waited, the bartender told us it would be quicker to go to our table and order drinks but we did have to wait to order these for a while which was a bit disappointing. Overall had a good time and would come back!
