Fancy Fry in Chelmsford

I haven't been to this eating place since before covid, thinking that the premises might have improved, we gave it a try. I wrote before that it was in need of a lot of refurbishment, the place now is disgusting. The food wasn't too bad, as I felt it was safe because the food is cooked minutes before it is served, so any bacteria should be killed. It was lunchtime and we were the only customers, word has got round, I think, that the place is now completely run down and very very shabby. Never, ever again, unless they completely renovate the place. Mirrors cracked, floor tiles cracked, dirty tables, bizarre very incompetent decor. Perfect place for a Halloween party. (Bring the sanitiser with you).

Food OK but delivery driver rude.

We fancied some fish and chips on our visit to Chelmsford how disappointed we was ,When it came up the batter was so greasy and thick the chips were the same I could tell the oil they were cooked in was old

Fancy Fry never let us down. Food is always spot on and always hot

Ordered a large cod and got a small. Ordered a large chips and got a small. Chips were under cooked (in my opinion). Mushy peas portion was very very small. Battered sausage was fine. Cheesy chips had hardly any cheese. Jumbo sausage was fine. Gherkin was tiny.

Nice chips, nice curry sauce and nice tasty wings, large rock was a little over, but would i order again? Yes

I didn't enjoy the meal unfortunately, wasted my money I feel 😪

The chicken was disgusting rubbery, and it was burnt and rock hard.

Disgusting re-heated chicken wings given to me last night. I got halfway through 1 and threw them in the bin!

All in all was good the food was nice and a reasonable temperature although could have done with been a tad hotter but how ever and was delivered within the time stated so yeah good

the chicken was black and both of my hot food items were cold

Pet's food looks more appetising. I ordered 2 items for delivery. Lamb chops and fried chicken. Very poor quality meat and waaaay overcooked and dry. The chicken smelled and probably fried in ten year old cheap oil.

was a bit disappointed that the batter on the fish was a bit under cooked and soggy .

Ordered a delivery, halloumi wraps which arrived in good time. Decent amount of halloumi but almost no salad... Shame as could have been amazing with the onions and cucumber that was selected upon ordering. Just a couple of stands of lettuce. Would order again if it actually contained the salad I selected.

the food portions have decreases especially with the cheesy chips. you are only getting about half of what you used to get and for the same price its not good

not very happy tonight! over half hour late, everything was incorrectly prepared. the chicken donner has changed, it used to be so nice now its just all fatty bits of meat .... not impressed. 2nd time its not been nice now, once more and I'll stop coming here.

Ordered large cod and chips with a kids meal ..was told 30 to 40 minutes..it came within 25 minutes it was hot (unlike other takeaways) the fish was lush all in all 100% will definitely be ordering again 😀

Definitely not beer battered fish or fried in beef drip. Also not fresh, had been refried. Disappointing. Chips, peas and curry sauce were ok, arrived warm. Onion rings were soggy. First time ordering here and will not be again.

I ordered chocolate banana milkshake got, banana yazoo not what I expected and I ordered strawberry milkshake got strawberry yazoo, I can’t drink yazoo due to the e numbers, chips where all cooked twice so hard to eat, curry sauce was so watery that I couldn’t tell if was a sauce or dish water, but the fish was ok

Really greasy fish. Chips were terrible.

Pie was almost inedible. The filling was gloomy and stringy like phlegm. Gagged while eating it.

Hot, tasty not greasy which I was gobsmacked about because kebabs generally are and the chicken was very flavoursum with crispy skin and a moist bit of meat

I am going to have to edit a post that i once gave a one star review to. This establishment was open at 2.30 am and not only served me but provided me with a decent meal. The price, which i once complained about as being expensive some years ago hasnt risen too much in 2024, too now be reasonable. An all round good result. This edit was not based on one visit but several.

I’ve waited for 40 minutes in a Hotel Reception and nothing turned up

Chicken wings seemed like they had been reheated for 2 days. And cant rule out a 2 way mirror in toilets.

Worse take away I ever order smell and tastes were terrible will never try this and won’t recommend it to anyone.

Used many times before but it seems as though they are getting worse each time. Food very greasy and cold also waiting nearly 90mins is a joke when you’re feeding kids before bedtime. Very dissatisfied will no longer order from here again

The Chips were ok.... savaloy was cols and Grey in the middle, I didn't eat it. Server was friendly, atmosphere was a bit dirty, sticky tables.

Absolute rubbish, ordered 2 chicken and avocado wraps, NO WRAPS, Haloumi Cheese with Pitta and garlic sauce. NO PITTAS or GARLIC SAUCE. Cod & Chips stone cold. Absolute disgrace and waste of £38. Had the cheek to say they would bring extra next time!!!! That won't be happening. AVOID

Food was delivered before scedule but unfortunately all was very cold ….

I have ordered here before but the past 3 times they got my order wrong, either not acknowledging it or missing out parts of my order in total;most recently being I was given 3 portions of chips when ordering 2 and 2 portions of wedges, no wedges were delivered; like a cover up for them forgetting time and time again. £6 spent on something I didn't get.

Great food, was a slight error with the order however it was promptly rectified following a phone call.

Food was tasty, but I ordered potato wedges and got chicken wings instead.

Kebab was just everything thrown in some paper wasn’t very well put together, they also didn’t put in what I paid for and tried to substitute it with a potato?

I ordered a chicken fillet burger and that's not what I got, it was kebab chicken in a bun, with a small amount of lettuce but couldn't see any mayo. Not happy cor the price I paid probably won't order again

Weekly customer. Both take out and dine in. Only had Kebab and Fried chicken. I like both. Other dishes No idea. Staff are well behaved. Easiest in counter experience.

Absolute mugs ordered 1st time and I got stone cold potatos and ordered again and ordered an apple pie & custurd and the gave me just an apple pie witch was also stone cold and soggy af

Chips were like they were cooked yesterday, dry, cold and tasted like cardboard. The kebab was stone cold and salad was non exaiatant. Very unappetising 👎

despite it arriving on time they still managed to get my order wrong.

We did not receive all the items we ordered, even though they took the money for the item I did not received. The chips were cold and slightly under cooked. I called the store to rectify my missing item and they said they did not have it in stock, so could not supply it. They would not refund my money and advised me that next time I ordered I would get an extra item for free. Not a satisfactory resolution. They over promised and under delivered and took extra money in the process. Won't be using them again in a hurry.
