100% recommend Great Baddow Barn to everyone if you love a chill, friendly atmosphere. The staff here are all lovely and very helpful. I came for some lunch with some work friends and it was all amazing! I got the ham, cheese & egg melt which was worth it.

I went for a lovely meal with my boyfriend last night. The food was amazing, the staff were very friendly especially Stacy and Lorna and helped us out massively. We both got the curry and drink deal for £8! Such a great deal. I would definitely recommend great baddow barn to everyone!

Food was terrible, I had a vegetable lasagne and the cheese on top wasn't even melted. I would have sent it back but I was with two young kids so I couldn't hang around. We went to the outside play area and there was lots of rubbish around despite the restaurant being really quiet so doesn't look like anyone cleans up from previous days. I don't have very high standards for a budget restaurant but I would expect food to at least be cooked and rubbish to be picked up.

Here now, Such a shame! 😞 been here before but not for ages so was hoping it might have improved.....what looks like an eyelash is on the side of my lasagne... lasagne has a sloppy consistency very strange! My daughter had a long hair in her chips! Table is sooooo sticky which is gross, in general the whole place looks like it is desperate for a deep clean! Staff seem a bit too relaxed which probably contributes to some of the above and some strange shouting etc coming from the kitchen area......it would be interesting to see the state of the kitchen and wether people preparing food actually wear hair coverings? Overall very disappointing! A massive shame and a wasted opportunity for a restaurant with tonnes of potential to be a great family friendly restaurant and probably the only one in chelmsford with amenities for children! Id love to see this place thrive but ive lost hope in it now, Shame! 🤷🏼‍♀️ The only thing good about it was it's so cheap but I guess the saying "you pay for what you get" should be this places motto 🤷🏼‍♀️

We visit this restaurant quite a lot as its cheap and cheerful It is very hit and miss had good meals and also had bad Place never seems busy so not sure why sometimes it is bad It is such a shame it is a beautiful barn that really needs a lot of TLC, staff are lovely but the building needs work on it to be honest is disgusting to look at so much work could be improved To be honest either greene King need to come and renovate or they should close the doors We often say someone needs to come and buy the building and renovate it could be beautiful Things are falling down, wires trailing Outside at the front bushes are not cared for need I go on Come on sell up and get a decent restaurant in to renovate or improve it's not hard We came tonight on a Saturday night and it was a ghost town with love this place should be heaving I mean if wetherspoons can do it We came on a Wednesday night and the same but that night they had run out of everything at 7pm! Improve or move on!

Nice little family pub for casual dining

Food was awful. shame as so much hear for the kids outdoor park and indoor soft play. I sent my dinner back as couldn't eat it was burnt and over done. Wont be back, wouldn't recommend

The only thing about this place that was good yesterday was the price my sons had the belly ache all day there was food in the garden sourpumded bu flies when we got there moved the food ourselves to order food our food came stayed there the entire time flies absolutely everywhere now I’m worried I may have to take my son to hospital with possible food poisoning, I would not recommend

Not a good start when the table is sticky and the only available cutlery needed cleaning before you would want to use it. Thankfully plenty of serviettes to clean it with. Food nice, large portions and reasonably priced

We went for a meal here some weeks ago now and it's been on my mind to write a review as some of the staff here really deserve a mention. I've got 4 hungry horse pubs closer to me but go to this one because of the ladies that work here. Ali has served us several times and has always been really friendly and helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Amy and Evie were great too. When I rang with some questions Stacey was most helpful and answered my questions happily which actually made me decide to visit the restaurant the first time we went there. Having friendly helpful staff really does make a difference to the whole dining experience and definitely makes you want to return.

Lamb kofta on flatbread with feta and salad. Huge!! Make sure you are hungry when ordering this dish. Very nice.

Food was terrible: cold, dry and/or overcooked. Ordered a mixed grill - all of which was either overcooked, undercooked or soggy. The burger was dry and my children’s dinners were cold and dry. We then waited 30 minutes for puddings for us to find that the crumble had no flavour, had clearly been microwaved to boiling point and drowned in custard. Considering it was a quiet evening, this cannot of taken that long. One positive is that the staff were friendly.

We went with family as we were visiting down south as we live in the north . I orderd fish and chips , husband orderd might mixy grill mum orderd the sunday roast and the childs roast . Food came my fish was plaice not cod it was all dried up and black inside the peas were raw uncooked . Husbands meat was dry and chewy and freezing and mums and childs dinner the meat was like rubber the vedge was freezing cold and the roast poatotoes were raw . We did complain and manager gave a refund for the roast and fish but not for the rest seemed unfair as all the food was appoling . They said please dont be put of and come again but doubt i will ruined the meal really .

The workers were extremely polite and helpful no air con in side room sadly we came home and had bad tummies all four of us

Though they were under staffed tonight, service was as polite as possible under the stressful circumstances and the food arrived hot and delicious. All drinks were served with smiley faces in spite of the rush as well 😄 thank you!

I have been here a few times now it’s always been nice , but lastnight I was disappointed we booked a table , table we got was covered in pepper , we was told meal would be about 30 mins wait that was fine we got a drink , meal came out I had ordered gammon egg chips , and a mixed grill when it arrived we both had no eggs so I went to ask to be told we haven’t any , why was that told to me on ordering also the peas were hard and cold . Steak was medium rare but more like a burger well done , but we ate most of it ordered a dessert one was still frozen so sorry last nights meal was not enjoyable

We ordered gammon egg and chips no egg just a onion ring , when I asked why they said we haven’t any , I said why not say when I ordered my meals . Few times we have eaten here todays was the worst meal we have had . Steak was hard not medium rare peas hard and cold and the chips we did have were not good also dessert was frozen still

Wow half an hour plus to get served for a drink. Another 20mins to order food . Then 1hr 11mins for food to arrive Staff very apologetic but this is a sign of poor management. Absolute shambles felt sorry for young staff .

The burgers were great, the garden is nicely kept and the play areas, indoors and outdoors, are a great feature of this pub the only thing I can say on the negative is they missed 2 items off my order and I had to go and ask them to check what I ordered but other than that it's a great hidden gem pub and kids eat for £1 on Mondays

I recently visited the barn, the food was amazing and the service was great. Waitress Evie was fantastic and helped us all during our visit. Food was hot and arrived quick, toilets were clean! I would definitely visit again :)

Wow! Had no idea there was such a fantastic pub in the area! Small soft play made it entertaining for our three and 8-year-olds. The place has separate areas for those with children and where only above 18 are allowed - so it is your choice if you want to sit near noisy kids 😀 Excellent fast service food was tasty. The child-friendly area has diner-like sitting (like booths) with high backs - like it to have a personal space as a family. These booths also have small tvs with cbbc playing with subtitles. Plenty of parking.

Great Baddow Barn is a large family pub, with plenty of parking, parking entrance is to the left of the building if looking from the road, we went past and had to turn around. We visit Tuesday after Bank Holiday weekend and couple of the food items I picked was off menu, the food was excellent value. Both staff members who we interactive with were very friendly and helpful. There is outside play area and the actual barn area is 18+ only so room for all. Overall it looks impressive but there are bit that look an update is needed. The best part of our visit was the desserts.

The food is ok, just ok. Cheap and cheerful.. They also managed to send the wrong food, so I ended up eating after my daughter. While queuing to order, the staff just walk off and start emptying the dishwasher and clean the floor (and do not wash hands after) as if your not standing there waiting. The place is very dirty and tables are very sticky. Food on carpet under tables. I informed a team leader the soap dispensers where broken, one was laying on the side leaking soap everywhere and the others pump mechanism wasn't working. This still hadn't been resolved by the time we was leaving. Dirty nappy on the table in the garden was the icing on the cake! Disgusting and won't be returning.

Incredibly good value for money. The food was good but lacked some salt, but the service and atmosphere were just amazing. Super friendly but not overbearing staff and gorgeous old barn building. loved it. would go again when visiting the area.

Tasty food. Nice service. That's the positives. Negatives are; we both had sizzler dishes, however they were not sizzling upon arrival at the table, and the food could have been hotter, guessing they were waiting for service staff, which was surprising as we were there before 5pm, also several staff about. Sticky unclean tables (not just ours but adjoining too). I believe the cleaning solution is softening the varnish on the table top. I wiped the table with a napkin using condensation from the ice bucket and the napkin came up brown (see photo). The lights above the bar, at just above head height, and therefore within easy reach, were all full of cobwebs. Considering there is a sign in the toilets claiming "Cleanliness is our high priority ........" it's a shame it didn't extend elsewhere in the premises. We will not be returning.

So so shabby and sticky, staff great but what a bloody waste of a great spot, felt like moving back to uk and running it and not into the ground as has been done.

Ordered nut roast dinner and turkey dinner how the chef could have sent these out is beyond belief never seen roast potato’s like this or burnt nut roast

Could be a good pub but the staff sit together on the same table every time and create an awful atmosphere. Loudest people in the pub and make ordering next drink difficult

Fast friendly service when we had limited time. Shame the indoor and outdoor play areas were both closed, but food came out quick and was decent enough.

I have not visited the barn for years due to several bad experiences but I would just like to say we booked a table for Wednesday evening and I cannot fault anything great service lovely staff food delivered promptly and great value will be going again and will recommend Anne foreman

Came here for lunch with my son! Very clean and tidy inside and my little boy enjoyed the play area also considering the bad weather so it was a bonus! Everything was reasonably priced and the food was lovely and hot when it arrived! All the staff were very friendly and smiley! Overall it was great experience!

Served by Kirsty who was fantastic, easy and quick service. Was very friendly , cheap and a great atmosphere to go with on a double date. Would recommend and come back. Had great parking area

Went on a whim as not normally in the area, seriously great food, wonderful decor, the staff are attentive to everyones needs and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was as good as possible, i will be coming back again!

Really good value for money, friendly staff. Great deals on the food. Just a shame the play area was shut as being half term we came for that, but these things happen.

Dirty plate cold chips not impressed

Came here for lunch with my friend and was greeted by the lovely Stacy and Kirsty who quickly showed us to our table, food came out quick and hot which was amazing would definitely recommend going here would 100% come again

It was a lovely looking restaurant, we stepped in to a lovely greeting by two amazing staff members(Kristy and Amy-as said on name tag) We were directed to a table in the main bar were we sat down and enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal. The staff were so lovely and made us feel so welcomed. It was a perfect dinner to conduct our anniversary of 7 years . We hope to go again and eat more of the scrumptious food. Thank you for catering to us and supplying our need , I couldn’t have asked for anything better !! We shall be seeing you again .

Came in the other night for food and drinks with a few friends, the food is really good value for money and the staff are also very friendly, especially Kirsty and Gracie who made us feel very welcome and looked after, will definitely be returning.

Visited the great baddow barn, Tuesday evening, had a lovely family meal, food was great value you for money, we all have a mix it up and it was really nice, staff are also very welcoming and we will definitely be returning.

Absolutely awful. Waited an hour for our food just for it to be freezing cold. My brothers birthday meal was ruined from this as we refused to eat it and got a refund. No waiters came round to check if we were ok or if food was ok. There was a few tables round us and not one waiter walked past for around 30-40 mins. Will not be going back there again because of this issue.

I come here for breakfast on my days off so im a bit of a regular. I've never had an issue at this pub. The food is amazing & the service was 10/10 staff are very friendly. I ordered the mega breakfast and wanted to change out a couple items, they were more than happy to accommodate me. I honestly can't fault this place thank you guys (I've reviewed this pub before, but I wanted to give an update as the service/food has only gotten better.

Regularly visit this restaurant and always find the staff very helpful and cheerful. The food is great value for the money. Very accommodating for all who visit. Sometimes attend with service users who have restricted mobility issues and the restaurant is very accessible for them. Every visit we notice how Great and hard the Team work here they always ensure to ask if everything is ok and we never have any problems.

Always pop in here with the grandchildren, when in the area. Food is good, big portions and caters for kids. With small, indoor soft play and outdoor playground. Ideal for families. Reasonably priced.

Had a lovely lunch with my Mum 22nd Jan. All the menu options we requested were available including vegan. Food was well presented and hot. The member of staff was very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend and return again.

The barn is a beautiful building and the food is proper pub food and lots of it to be had. Prices are very reasonable and all of the staff are cheerful and friendly. It’s great for families too but we just go as a couple and we love it there. Very comfortable.

We went to Great Baddow Barn last night, 27th January and sadly this was the worst visit we have had in all the time we have been going there. Firstly once we had decided on food, I found when I went to order that they had run our of Mac and Cheese; how is this possible!! When our meals arrived, the starters were great but the mains well that is another story. My husband had the Sea Bass which whilst he ate it and enjoyed it, he found at the end when finishing that there was a long black hair stuck to the plate. None of us has black hair so this could only have come from the kitchen!! My son had burger and chips but couldn't eat all the chips/fries as they were overcooked so not very enjoyable. I had Lasagne and a jacket potato which I thought you can't go wrong with, how wrong was I. The Lasagne looked as though it had been cooked/heated up numerous times as the sides were burnt and any juice/liquid that was in the meat had disintegrated so it was a dry mess and not very appetising. I couldn't eat all of it. The jacket again appeared to have been microwaved until the life was sucked out of it as the skin was wrinkled up but the potato inside was edible. We did tell the waitress when she collected our plates of the issues but heard nothing from the chef or Manager so assumed they weren't concerned. The final straw was when my husband went to get another drink. He only drinks IPA but was told by the server that they had run out and she didn't know how to change the barrel and would have to get help. After a few minutes the Manager came out and said that unfortunately there wasn't another keg ready to be put on as it hadn't been prepared the day before, so unfortunately there was no draft IPA available. Really, this is unacceptable. Do the managers/staff not check these things beforehand so they have a new keg ready. Unfortunately we decided to leave which spoiled the rest of our evening. We did note that another group of people sitting near us were about to do the same as the two gentlemen wanted IPA as well. We will not be returning here I am afraid for quite some time which is unfortunate as we always enjoyed our visits. Thank you

Come on a Sunday and there was dirty plates everywhere and food on the floor it’s was so disgusting and dirty I ever had a problem before but that was actually horrible and I can’t get in the disabled to get my baby changed so I had to change her on the floor I was looking a round for someone and can’t found anyone

Not great when you come with kids anymore. Soft play inside has been closed since the summer! Play area outside shut as well. Won’t be coming back again. Explains why it’s dead inside

We went yesterday New Years Day and was pleased with the service and food. The food came out all together and was hot. The staff were quick to let us know that the waffles were not available and made pancakes for our daughter instead. I...

Food not the best, but staff friendly and main reason we chose this place was for our child to go in play area........ which was closed.

I have been here a few times recently, and I have to say the food is very good and is very cheap but one thing I will say is every time I have visited there has been the same few people sat right by the entrance who are very loud and rude. They are also not discreet about making obnoxious remarks about other customers…

Ha Christmas lunch at the barn. Disappointed. Not very busy, poor service and felt like we were eating leftovers, particularly in the roast Turkey.

Breakfast with santa on christmas Eve wonderful. The staff were so busy and the breakfast was amazing. Happy content, children. Christmas day was also stunning! Best Christmas day meal we have ever had.

Breakfast with Santa. Table was sticky we had to clean it. I couldn't believe they couldn't send anyone out to get some Eggs, a breakfast with NO eggs unbelievable. Bacon was very salty and sausages were only warm and hard and tasteless. None of our family ate the breakfast, probably the worst meal we've had in a long time. ON THE PLUS SIDE...The Santa was absolutely brilliant, he was dressed for the part and played the part extremely well. We all thought he was excellent and almost made up for the terrible breakfast. Would recommend the Santa but not the food.

It's hard to get a good ale in chelmsford. This pub has become part of my regular routine. They know exactly how to get it right. Very good ale! Very good pub!

Christmas meal out of this world!

Booked here for a family dinner on a child’s birthday. No mention anywhere of the play area being out of use - either online or when we called. The whole restaurant and furniture looked dated and in need of some TLC. Bar area looked slightly better but we didn’t sit there so can only assume. Tables were very sticky, which was unpleasant. Adult meals were ok - big portions and came quickly but the kids didn’t each much as the pasta and rice were quite dry, which I hadn’t know was even possible! Staff were friendly and attentive.

Came here on a Saturday evening. Food perfectly cooked and so tasty. Staff are so nice. Very busy, very good value.

Had to send food back because it wasn't cooked properly. Twice so ended up not having a dinner. As rest of the people at my table had finished. Then puddings where not good..front of house took the orders but kitchen didn't take notice of the requests.of how and what we wanted. They refunded my dinner. But very disappointed as it was a Christmas do. Plus place was dirty
