Grover & Allen in Babergh

I've been using this Spoons regularly for a few years now. Until Covid the quality of the real ales served here was decent. However, over the last few years it's been increasingly difficult to get a decent pint here. All the real ales served here are nearly always cloudy and flat. I doubt there's a member of staff who knows the first thing about the storage or the serving of proper beer. In future I'm going to give this place the miss and head for the White Horse instead.

I asked politely for ketchup from the waiter when he brought our food and asked if we need anything. He then proceeded to point rudely and tell me to get it from the table on the lower deck. (I’m in a wheelchair).

Got to say the service was quick and staff friendly but most of all the food was delicious, my son and I had the small fish and chips and the fish was cooked to perfection! The batter was lovely and crispy too. This is a great stop for a good value enjoyable meal.

If you want a simple uncomplicated breakfast come here. Easy to order, plate hot and for less than £5 you cannot go wrong. No it is not artisan sausage or eggs from chickens who have piped music to their coup but if you want to 'fill a corner' Mind you, clever site buying as there are at least 4 undertakers right next door for patrons to go window shopping.

Very pleasant place ,staff were polite friendly .Tables clean.Toilets good .Ordered food delivered timely and was enjoyable .Plenty of room .Was warmer at the back of pub.Near Door was a little chilly .

Group of 4 meeting for lunch we were told when ordering it would be 20 mins one friends lunch arrived but no one else's I complained after an hour wait ! Other friends lunches arrived I was still left waiting only ordered a penni and salad so not hard to prepare . Everyone had finished their lunch when mine finally arrived after me chasing it up yet again . It was awful cheese wasn't melted bacon looked still alive it was cold but hard on the ends will not be returning other tables were getting a refund and leaving .

The food on offer is great for the price and good. But think they lack front of house staff - leading to dirty/sticky tables and a long wait for food - not their fault, the staff are lovely and helpful but sticky tables and general grubbiness is a little disconcerting in Covid times.

The peas were hard Skeak was not edible purple inside and grisly pink and terrible never have had it like this before

I have eaten here twice over the last 2 months - I have to say that I did so because prices are so good and, to be fair, the food is pretty decent for the price. Meeting friends for a cheap lunch as we were all on furlough.However, in this particular time of 'germ phobia' I have to say they are failing very badly, we had to ask for a table to be cleared of cutlery/crockery - then we had to ask for somebody to come and wipe the table - having waited 10 mins I got some hand wipes out of my bag and we cleaned it ourselves - this happened BOTH TIMES!. Living in Suffolk we have become too comfortable due to lack of COVID cases and that's probably why this has been allowed to continue. Shame on you Weatherspoon's - you have obviously advised safe guarding practices to your many venues - but there is no way you followed up and made sure it was actually in place.

We came into wether spoons sudbury just after 8pm to a fairly empty pub. We are regularly come here to enjoy a drink once a week or visiting with family. Well this evening there was 4 floor staff on and we are unable to order at the bar due to covid-19 (this is understandable). But having to wait almost 40 minutes to be asked what drinks we want to order is ridiculous, especially when one of us went and asked one of the bar staff if we could order (after 30 minutes), she was very snotty saying we can't order at the bar but she would be over in a second to take our order, fast foward 10 minutes we had to get another staff member to take our order.Everything else was perfect even the food but 40 minutes was a bit extreme, especially when it's only a 1/4 filled and most of the seated people are using the app.

Ok so I popped into here whilst having our car valeted and had time to kill. Ordered a traditional breakfast and a bacon sandwich. Now I don't consider this a challenge for a basic chef however.. the food had been left near the hot plate for a while before our server was reminded it was there. The bacon sandwich was super dry almost toasted and my breakfast was stone cold. I told the server of our issue and he went to get fresh. Only a few minutes later he returned with our replacement meals that as it turned out mine was microwaved to warm it up and the sane bacon was just put into 2 slices of unbuttered bread. It was a poor excuse for a meal and we just got a refund and left hungry and disappointed.

Track and trace at the front door ,an improvement for wetherspoons, but no one is checking people are wearing their masks when moving about within the pub , to the toilets and outside to have a smoke , no one is checking !, come on wetherspoons get with it , and for the safety of your customers that the goverment recommends, or lose customers , like myself and my husband , who have been loyal customers for years , people need to feel safe and your failing them !

I visited this Wetherspoon Grover & Allen with my wife, four times in the last five weeks, on each occasion we left, simply because the menu choice was so depleted, along with a very limited selection of beer. Many excuses were made including the supposedly high demand during the Richi Sunak meal deal. Therefore that was the reason why we tried several times after the offer had ended. But sorry to say, still nothing had changed, there was still very little food, and hardly any beer! I asked if their suppliers had been paid, after a long pause, and a wry smile, the lady serving at the bar said she didn't know. But then maybe she did! Our last visit was lunchtime 16th September when we only saw about eight people in there and two of those were staff. If you're thirsty and hungry this is NOT the place for you! I must add that we have always been up till now, big Wetherspoon fans, but not at the moment. ls it just the Grover & Allen that is affected or is Wetherspoon in some kind of difficulty l hope not! Anyway they'll very much have to go some to win us back!

Ordered drinks off the app, it does not let you choose two mixers on one drink ie.. gin with lemonade and lime cordial, so the drink come without cordial.... when we mentioned it to the waitress she advised the guy behind bar won’t allow cordial with drink without paying for it on the app, we then tried to order cordial separate and pay on app but the waitress came back and said that you can’t do it separately and would need to go up to the bar to order it. Considering it was just a dash of lime cordial we was after we thought this was totally unnecessary and could of been resolved in a better way.

First I have to say that the chili jacket potato I had was really nice - and as always at a Wetherspoons great value. Unfortunately I was surrounded by uncleared tables and the table I sat at (which was the best of the bunch) was covered in wet drink rings and sticky. Service was not great - took quite some time for someone to come and take my order and then they forgot my drink. Honestly - I went there alone and would probably go back as the food was OK and the price is great - but I would never take somebody there to eat - its just a bit grubby and the staff don't seem to care.

mixed grill more like mixed grease...cold pretty awufull food filthy tables and menus carpet looks like in need of a srub...mind you it is a wetherspoons

Not much I can say food average staff helpful and friendly It was clean and tables cleaned down as soon as anyone left Menus paper so could be thrown away once used - excellent.

Went here for some lunch. We tried to find a clean table but everyone was dirty. We had to get someone to come and wipe down the table. They wiped it with some antibacterial stuff but wiped in straight onto the floor. The floor was disgusting. I don't think it had seen a hoover in weeks!. We ordered food but it took about 45 minutes to arrive. They forgot the 2 bowls of chips we ordered, so we had to wait longer for them. 3 of us ordered meaty feast pizza and they weren't that great. They were very dry and not a lot of meat or cheese on them and barely any tomato sauce/ tomato puree on them. One positive, when they arrived, were the chips, they were really nice!. Won't be going there again.

The food here was nice. The place was really quite dirty though. The floor was covered in random filth that wasn’t cleaned in the four hours we were there (12pm until 4pm). The tables were dirty and were given only the most bare-bones wipe-down. My first coffee cup was too dirty to use and I had to get another (which had a chip in it). The staff all seemed busy, and were all friendly and helpful. I wonder if they were short-staffed and didn’t have time to clean properly. If cleanliness is next to Godliness, these folks won’t be going to heaven any time soon.

The staff were very friendly. The food was hot.We came in the late afternoon to watch the FA cup. The tv was not on but the staff put the tv on when asked. There were just a few watching the match and everything was fine. We then ordered a meal which came quickly. As the evening progressed loads of youth came in possibly from the garden. There were No social distancing what so ever. The pub was selling jugs of blue and pink stuff and they were being sick in the toilets. First visit to a pub since lockdown and it will be my last.

Had a hard time choosing which of the curries to eat, but Connor Robinson behind the bar was brilliant in advising me on which was best for me. Good customer service

The tables are never clean. I had to clean my own with wipes I just happened to have in my bag. The food looked as tho it had been thrown onto the plate and was no where as good as it used to be or, indeed, should have been. Potion size drastically reduced and I shall never ever go into this wetherspoons again

we went there for a late lunch with 3 members of our family, the tables were greasy, l ordered steak and kidney pudding, cut it in half to let the heat out (wrong) NOT EVEN WARM. it was cold as were the chips. we all had cold chips too. l called a young lad and said sorry but its cold, he took it away, by now the rest had to start their meals, they all finished their food, mine still hadn't come, our daughter went up twice to ask where is it,totally ruined our awful visit. mostly young people working there.

Staff poor, food even worse - don't waste your money - food was cold and took a long while to arrive even though I was in my own. The veg looked like they had been swept up off the floor, they had no colour.

Went for breakfast yesterday, most of the food was poor,cold, fried eggs had to be sent back as they were like rubber and the 2 that came out weren't much better.One person serving food and one person serving behind the bar.The poor girl was doing her best but had no chance.Sticky floors , disgusting place.

Poor quality food very disappointed. We had the Christmas lunch and it was one of the worst plates of food I had ever had, my wife had the same menu choice in Downham Market and it was fine.

Breakfast on a sunday. Cold toast, mushrooms missing on one plate, pathetically small amount of beans, small portion on scrabbled egg, tasteless sausages. Dissatisfied and won't be back any time soon, far nicer places in town for a good breakfast.

Pub was busy but found a sticky table and some comfortable chairs Not very warm as air con was blowing , but can’t beat drinks pricesSecurity on the door were friendly Returned Saturday morning for breakfast another table that needed a wipe , only one coffee machine working and my breakfast arrived without bacon Bar staff apologised and swiftly got a breakfast with bacon on a warm plate Typical Spoons , untidy and disorganised but good value and the ladies toilets were clean

Poped in for a quick bite and drinks with my kids, after sitting down for a few mins the fire alarm went off. Staff quickly evacuated the place within a couple of minutes and the place was checked for a fire. 5 minutes later after staff had confirmed that no fire was present we were allowed back in shortly followed by the food we had ordered. All food was great and staff worked in a very professional manor under such circumstance. Well done to all staff who worked to a precise planned fire alarm drill.

Stopped here several times and had no complaints about the food,though they could do with more bar staff as the queuing system is a nightmare..So annoying when queuing for ages and another bar staff person arrives and someone at the end of the queue gets served..

This is a sole less money making machine that is killing the world of local public houses. We should have leant our lesson junk food and even worse servers the staff are so wrapped up in themselves that the customers play very little part in the running of the prison like atmosphere.

Meals arrived quickly but both meals were Luke warm /tepid the area manager needs to get a grip as I see from previous posters I am not the only one complaining about cold food would have complained to bar person but only one person on duty and they had a big queue in front of them

Every time our son & his wife come over from New Zealand due to the landing time, we head for Weather spoons in North street Sudbury, they miss the good old full breakfast, we had good food in the past, but this time, the food was cold, No Frid eggs, only scrambled eggs, and the Bacon was undercooked, white fat. Sham all the way around the world and a three-hour drive from the airport.

Came here to eat with family yesterday, wish we would have gone to McDonald’s instead. The place is filthy..my flip flop came off at the bar as it was stuck to the floor. Tables not cleaned so had to clean our own table so we could eat. No fizzy drinks were working that day so had to have cans although not too much of an issue. We were disgusted by the food had too send it back. Beef burger rock solid black and burned but stone cold?! Eggs were like rubber and cold. Steak resembled an old pair of welly’s. Absolute dump will never come back. Felt dirty just sitting in this place everything was sticky...yuk

Breakfast hit and miss depending on the chef, plates are never hot..toast burnt, cleaning non existant, tables sticky, stained chairs, carpet very rarely hoovered. Floor usually sticky in front of bar after the cleaners have gone home.

Went for a family lunch at the Grover and Allen. Very varied menu with many meals offering an inclusive soft or alcoholic drink.

Having had quite a few meals here in the past all pretty good to be fair, we were disappointed when on a recent visit for breakfast we found that the meals were cold.

Been to a few weather spoons not one I would visit in hurry arrived yesterday with group friends just before quite busy a few tables free not one of them had been cleared saw people walking out expect because of this? mind went to bar 1 person only seemed to be serving 8 of us waiting anyway ordered food and drinks couldn’t carry all drinks had to ask for tray also glass for bottle beer also straws for soft drinks food was delivered within 15 mins all enjoyed couldn’t fault food but seemed serious lack of staff it’s a shame compared with other weatherspoon restaurants seemed have let them down

Successful spontaneous decision for a pint leading to eats! Have walked passed many times and tempted but not tried out this pub. I hadn't realised how large it is or that it has a large rear patio area. The beer was excellent as were the staff, we deiced to get something to eat and settled on the 3 small plates for £10.25. Despite doing a good trade with many customers eating the food arrived in good time and was well prepared and hot. The wait staff was very engaging and topped for a chat.

what a shambles this place is ordered Eggs Benedict and toast with Jam BOTH arrived cold the toast was burnt. Asked POLITELY for them to be changed animosity from waitress. They walk about like The Living Dead in here. Tables were filthy from the previous evenings drinking after the boring football. It happens DAILY here the cleaning is awful toilets had Landing strips down regularly and smell awful all the time.

Decided to have a family breakfast on a Sunday morning. Ordered our food and drinks. The drinks were lukewarm also the pub was dirty with dirty plates left on tables not cleared away and sticky tables. Dirty cutlery sauce and condiments not filled up. Food came and was all cold. Toast was hard and stale tasting. Beans freezing, hash browns hard and crispy, egg was slimy, sausages cold and bacon was like shoe leather. Big disappointment and mistake eating here.

We visited Grover and Allen in April and like all Wetherspoon pub the food was cheap.tastey and excellent value

We had breakfast there this morning and it was the same old stuff.....The food is ALWAYS cold , the place is a filthy hole of a place .......Worst Wetherspoons I have ever been in !!!!!

First visit to 'Spoons, been to many others and as usual it lived up to the best value eatery chain around. Food is fast, easy to eat, plenty to go around and cheap. Mixed grill I had was the small version but there was plenty of meat and I enjoyed it. Shouldn't ask for more from this kind of outfit.

Colleague and I fancied a change from the hotel and strolled into Sudbury. As real ale fans the IPA being served was excellent and fantastic value as you would expect from a Wetherspoons. Couple of pints and two serloin steaks for under £22 couldn't really go wrong. Pub clean and tidy and will certainly be going back.

We popped in for lunch on Monday having been let down at another place where we had booked a table, but they turned out to be shut....

Not particularly busy, took ages to get served. Food took ages to arrive. Mediocre. Cutlery was dirty, no salt anywhere. Desserts of fruit and ice cream and crumble and ice cream took even longer. Gone downhill since our last visit, won't be returning.

On entering the Grove & Allen we were met with a scene of dirty uncleared tables and had to clear a table for ourselves to be able sit down for a drink, this was not because it was busy as there were several empty ones.On asking for some real ales I was told that they only had 2 on as they don't sell many of those, this is the opposite of what Weatherspoons is all about.This used to be a good clean place but it seems to have gone down a lot lately.

Had lunch here & regretted it - service at the bar awful & filthy restaurant - sticky tables & chairs & not cleaned the hour we were here! Would not come back

Cold items (again, gave them the chance to redeem themselves after sending it back last time) and not given what was advertised on the menu/picture. Never ordering breakfast there again.

We visited on their Thursday Curry night, excellent value and the food was very good, service was quick and efficient. Only thing I would say is that quite a few of the tables had not been cleared from previous customers but there were plenty of tables that were clean. The range of drinks was excellent, all in all very good.

Went here on a Thursday evening and selected from the curry menu. Two edible and quite tasty curries, rice, poppadoms, naan, samosa's and drinks for just under £15. Really busy with staff rushing around to deal with table service which meant tables hadn't been cleaned and cleared. Is it what it is okay for cheap food and drink and very popular but not the cleanest or tidiest pub in town.

Well its far better food than the evening meals we had there . Good value with free refill coffee and its not too busy early in the day .

Phoned Grover and Allen to see if they catered for gluten free diets, a very pleasant response from Simon who reassured me they had a separate menu. When we arrived and requested said menu I was surprised to see the variety of meals available. The bar staff were very friendly as were the waiting staff. They checked our meals were ok and cleared plates and glasses in a timely manner. A very relaxed, enjoyable environment where staff actually made you feel welcome and valued.

Popped in today for a quick meal with the family as we were in town and the little ones were hungry but really should of gone elsewhere, firstly tuna jacket potato came with sales on a red hot plate, so hot it had cooked the salad then the tuna had obviously been left on the pass too long as the heat lamp had warmed the tuna so it was all gloopy, when I asked a member of staff about it he showed no respect to us as a customer by blatantly lying and trying to tell us that’s how it’s supposed to be served and quiet rudely argued with my wife then walked off in a huff, we had the meal replaced but even then it was just about adequate, I know this is a busy pub and you get what you pay for but being rude to customers is totally inexcusable

Sunday Afternoon and unbelievable poor service from start to finish with bad food and bad beer!

This is a rather cavernous soulless place, but at breakfast time it's worth sacrificing ambience for decent cheap food and friendly service. Take a table by the window and watch the Sudbury world go by.

Came here a while ago, food was fine And Adam on the bar helped me perfectly with my daughter's allergies

Service was fine, food was enjoyable and alcohol was served pleasently and professionally, what more can you ask for?

Called in for late lunch, and decided to take advantage of the drinks included meals.

Went tonight for a family meal. No Sunday roast anymore? Veggie burger was nice but the chips were cold and the lettuce brown.

The food was good today, but the service was terrible, the two young girls are rude and clearly don’t enjoy their job, when ask for an item that we paid for, the blonde girl made it quite clear it was too much trouble to go and get it, 15 minuets later still not arrived, so asked the dark haired young girl, she also seemed unhappy to go and find out where it had got to ( our poor grandson wouldn’t eat his meal until it arrived) so had to eat his dinner cold. We had ordered a banana to go with our grandson meal, this too never arrived, so we ask the young fella working there, he sorted it out straight away, big thank you to him, for the good service, with a smile. Please weatherspoons sort your staff out, brilliant food as always.

Who ever the chef/cook was working today Friday 13 July at 1.15 should be retrained in how to cook burgers. The first one was burnt completely over one side and told this to two staff, this was changed with a complete meal. Looked at the second burger, yes, it too was completely burnt. It is probably the easiest thing to cook on the menu and they can't get it right. The rest of my table's meals were ok the fish and chips and lasagna. Staff friendly and tried to put things right. The pub was not very busy for a Friday.

We went to Wetherspoons for a meal yesterday evening as it was "chicken" night. The specilas menu loked good and we ordered our food. Whilst searching for the sauces etc we noticed there was no vinegar ! I looked all around the tables to be told by other diners that there was no vingar at all this evening. I then dashed down the road to a nearby shop and bought a bottle ! When our meals eventually arrived I asked the waiter for vinegar and he confirmed that they did not have any and would not be having a delivery until Friday(it only being wednesday) I also noticed that there was no coleslaw onthe plates even though the menu stated both dishes came with it. The waiter confirmed they had also run out of coleslaw !!!! After eating our meal I ordered two more drinks which were undrinkable, the wine tasting as if it had been watered down and the beer being completely flat.The bar staff did replace the drinks !!!! i know the food is cheap here but it is now getting to be rather a joke !I left the bottle of vinegar as a present for fellow diners!

I've visited this pub on a number of occasions for a simple lunch-grab and have never been disappointed. Always a decent pub-grub with the drink included. Highly recommend Pizza Margheritta and any of the Burgers. Rump steak is also of a decent quality. Value for money is amasing.

We usually order a vegetarian brunch/breakfast but usually there will always be some item of food missing each time. Today it was the toast, which I had to request. Other times it can be the mushrooms or even the eggs! Sometimes food is lukewarm, almost cold, although usually good enough. Tables should be cleared more quickly. Other bugbear is parents allowing their noisy brats to run around all over the place as if it's an indoor play centre!

We ordered two steak meals,one rump, and one sirloin,only to be told " there was no sirloin available as they had run out." The glass that I was given for the orange drink was dirty, excess of glass washing liquid possibly.

I went to this pub during a visit to Sudbury, I just had a drink. The pub is quite large inside, Food is standard Wetherspoon fare. The pub has outside seating at the rear. Recommended.

Very good Wetherspoon standard, A little slow, but there are not all under staffed.Good food of a standard this one has slipped lately, wrong orders and not hot hot, also messiy to long.

Chicken pieces in tikka Masala hard, cutlery filthy, cleaned it myself. Wine glasses very stained. App for ordering at table not working. Not a good experience. Probably the worst we have seen it. Going down hill.

When we got there, most of the tables hadn’t been cleared. We had to ask for ours to be cleared and wiped. Most of the other tables remained uncleared for the rest of the evening.

I'm in this place a lot but reviewing the breakfast we had yesterday. Despite a busy pub the food came out quickly. It was hot and tasty. Good value and enjoyable. Refillable drinks at a fantastic price is a bonus.

Attended with my father and sister. We made our choice from the menu,bearing in mind I had already ordered drinks, I had to make three journeys from my table to the bar to order food. First order was Lamb Shanks times two. Told none left. Returned to table made another choice. So back to bar with order for mixed grill and pie and gammon eggs and chips, queued again waiting some time as there only one young male serving, a totally disinterested female just walked off and was gone for some time. At last my turn to be served only to be told no gammon. So back to the table for yet another choice. Gammon changed for baked potato. Back to the queue and made my order. Won't it be great for the staff to inform you at point of contact what was off the menu. With a question like are you eating today and then informing what is off the menu. Your staff just went though the actions of service and I got the impression they would rather be doing something else or be somewhere else.

SUNDAY BREAKFAST . Food as very good and seems far better than that served in the evening . Good value too. free refill coffee a bonus .

We met some friends for a meal all of which come up hot and at the same time. We had fish and chips, chicken burger and 3 sharing portions. We all agreed that we had no complaints about the food or service.

We ordered the steak was cold and over cooked, halloumi was in shards and burnt and one portion short. Sauces were forgotten.

Popped in for a bite to eat at lunch time...ordered the chicken burger and mexican rice. Rice was deffo uncle bens packet as you could see the shape where they had put it on place. Chicken in burger was very dry and over cooked. Would not recommend at all

I love Wetherspoons. But I won't go back to this one.

cheap food with drinks offers, and you get what you pay for, poor service, very poor food (burnt and cold at the same time burger), small portions, very few staff (Saturday lunchtime, only 2 staff behind bar the whole time, for serving all drinks and taking all food orders), long queues, tables not cleaned (not one table was cleaned or wiped down, whilst we were there), would not recommend.

Usually we enjoy this wetherspoons when we visit Sudbury. But i ordered fish & chips and the fish was just greasy curled batter very little fish, and only a few chips. My partners meal was also below the usual quality.

Had very relaxed happy w/e lunch here and, although packed out (mostly families), we had friendly and fast service. A fussy eater smaller guest (!) enjoyed perfect chargrilled breast of chicken with 'very good chips', and plenty of sauces to choose from. Unlimited cups of good Lavazza coffee, once initial one paid for. Other guests enjoyed crispy battered cod and 'good chips' and also a mixture of steak, onion fritters, chips, etc. Everyone happy. Would certainly return.

service slow, more staff needed. meals basic you get what you order no trimmings. They have a good range of beers.

Reading some reviews makes you think some people expect a five star reasturant, spoons is a cheap tasty meal.

Really poor quality food served in a noisy busy environment . Service ok and as per expectations of wetherspoons it was cheap . But there are far better pubs to eat at locally serving great food .

I haven't been here for a while, and decided to pop in this morning with my partner, for just a coffee (how difficult should this be ?). Two people in front of me, no problem, girl behind the bar, looking as miserable as sin, no eye contact, no sense of urgency, took her time doing everything. , when it was my turn (eventually,everything seems to take an age in there )she served someone else who had just joined the queue, I pointed this out, she chose to ignore me, I walked out, don't need this sort of 'service' How can many of the other Wetherspoons get it right , yet Sudbury get it so wrong, Nothing changes in there, I now remember why I haven't been there in a while.

Went in for curry club. Pub was messy half the tables had not been cleaned. Decided to walk straight out again and go to the cock and bell. That my friends is some proper grub.

I ordered rump steak medium rare look what they served. No-one has bothered to ask how my meal is. It's late so I can't be bothered to send it back. Shame because I've had good steaks in other Wetherspoons.

Visited here for the first time yesterday.

Popped in today with my family for lunch. Service at the bar was a bit slow . Food arrived and was fine. Unfortunately the interior could do with a complete make over as it does look tired and dingy. I regularly use Wetherspoons and find them great value for money. Would have been 4 stars if the interior was improved. Perhaps the manager and team from The Temeraire at Saffron Walden should come over and improve this Wetherspoons.

Went in here last Friday evening for the Fish and Chips.To be fair, the food was as usually very good and quickly served, ONCE you got your order taken at the bar.Service at the bar was very slow (only 2 people serving) with no Bud Light nor Coors lager so not happy with the choice I had to make.Also not the brightest Wetherspoons I have been in.Overall Food good, beer and service below standard.

Tried to get served and sit at a clean table, one person cleaning one person serving, extremely slow, mainy people waiting so we left. Normally the food is ok though. Shame because where we went .........the food was VILE as was the service

It's exactly what you'd expect from a Weatherspoons, hardly any natural light. Having said that, the prices are low, the toilets are clean, they serve ales, staff are friendly and helpful but unfortunately they do not allow dogs in the garden and this is the main reason why we do not visit. They allow dogs out the front but there's often broken glass and traffic going by. On the plus side, the do order to the table app!

PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. went today with my daughter and small grandson. after queuing for 20 minutes to place our order, we were told by the only person who seemed to be working, that it would be a 20 minute wait, OK. After 35 minutes asked the greasy little boy if he could see where our food was. 20 minutes later asked him again, as people who ordered after us were already eating and why he did not do the request in the first place, to which there was some grunting and mumbling in reply. he eventually returns to say that we had not placed an order. Needless to say after some discussions a refund was given. JUST AVOID.

As regular customers, we were very disappointed with today's experience. The order was wrong, and when challenged, the manager disagreed. One meal was delivered correctly, but the steak was inedible, grisly and impossible to chew, and the accompanying salad had stale lettuce leaves. On a plus side, the choice of beers was excellent.

First of all, I have to say that my experience of Wetherspoons in Sudbury has been generally good. Not posh grub but perfectly acceptable given the prices, hence the reason for my visit today with my children. Having queued for an infinity, someone ignored this queue and headed straight to a the member of staff at the bar who had just become available. I assumed there was a different queue for drinks only and that's why the bar girl served him, rather than advise him that others were in front of him. When I finally got served and mentioned that others had been waiting longer, the young, and dare I say it inexperienced bar girl, told me in a defensive and very unprofessional manner that basically they do not adopt a system for queues and they serve whoever approaches the bar next. Call me old fashioned but I think the majority of the civilised people do form queues and respect when it is there turn. Not happy that I challenged this rule, she proceeded to remove my meal order from the till system and walk away, stating "she wasn't going to be spoken to like that". At no point did I raise my voice, or swear, or become threatening. Gob smacked at how this was developing, I requested to see the manager. Low and behold, when she finally made an appearance, face like thunder and clearly having no interest in my perspective, she stood by what had been said and done. No wonder the young girl that served me had the attitude she did when that's how the so called managers conduct themselves. The usual staff were not there, but I am hoping it was because they are on holiday, as I have no intention of returning whilst it is run by the current staff!

Went to meet a friend here for a Saturday lunch time drink - her choice; not mine! Tables were sticky and uncleared, the carpet looked as if it was not cleaned regularly; the wait for service at the bar seemed endless. I would definitely NOT go here again. There are loads of good places in Sudbury and this is not one of them. However, Weatherspoons in Bury St Edmunds is in a lovely building although always heaving and again the queues for service are endless.
