A regular haunt for our family, it's even better in the summer when you can make more of the outside space. Good celler and quality local food. Friendly welcoming staff and owners... Recommended.

My wife and I stopped here for a spot of lunch whilst staying in the area and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It is a typical local pub serving good wholesome food without the frills or inflated prices of some places nearby.

You know what you’re going to get here. It’s not trying to be super trendy or fancy, it just wants to provide a good service. And that it does - good drinks and good food, reasonable prices and friendly service. Seems popular with locals and visitors alike. Would definitely recommend.

Our walking group visited the Fox & Hounds at the end of our walk. A good selection of beers and beverages. The two pints of Earl Soham bitter I had was spot on. Disappointingly the kitchen had run out of the steak pie, but there was an adequate choice of other pub favourites, including basket meals. All our walking group enjoyed their visit. Good service, good wholesome food at reasonable prices and good beer. We look forward to visiting again

This lovely village pub was amazing. A warm welcome and a table to ourselves meant the four of us could talk and eat in comfort. Beautiful summer's day and lovely views through the open windows. The food was delicious and all homemade. Fish and chips and Hunters chicken were superb, best chips I've tasted for a very long time. Yummy puddings and a good cup of coffee. The price was very reasonable and we will certainly be back.

We came across this country pub with a great garden a month back when our son was out cycling, found it and said we should come down. We just had a drink in the garden that time, but vowed to come back for a lunch, which we have now done. Happily we were not disappointed as all five of us found the meal to be excellent, well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Their Covid arrangements are also excellent, with a one way system and all food brought out to table, along with any drinks ordered but not collected at the time of ordering. The garden is pretty large with all tables well spaced out with zero Covid risk. All in all, this is a really great place to come to for a quick drink, a longer time spent over a meal - you will not be disappointed.

We called in for a pint and light meal following a morning's country walk.Firstly, given the rate at which rural pubs have been closing in recent tines, it is pleasing to note that this establishment, situated in a tiny village in a rural location, is still going strong. They must be doing something right! The premises advertises itself as a Free House and sure enough, four real ales pumps were fitted to the bar, only three of which were in operation. Sadly I felt, all three pumps were dispensing different Greene King beers, brewed locally and while there is nothing wrong with these beers (which can be purchased and consumed very easily in this area) it would have been nice to have found at least one 'different' or non local beer to be offered given the Free House (not tied) status. The beer we chose, a special brew in connection with Remembrance Day, was nonetheless good. The premises were welcoming, clean and tidy. The former saloon bar was laid up as a restaurant area for which there was a menu, though we didn't pay this too much attention. The neighbouring public bar which we used, where you could also eat, operated more as a public house for drinks. There was a shorter 'light' meal menu but, unusually these days, it did not list sandwiches, baguettes or jacket potatoes. The lightest option (save for taking a starter from the restaurant menu), were a range of basket meals (e.g. chicken goujons, chicken burger, scampi and others) all served with a very generous portion of chunky chips. The baskets used were the plastic type that were a ubiquitous craze in pubs sometime around the 1980's - certainly I haven't seen one or eaten from one for many years so it was a bit nostalgic. The food was good, but more than we might have normally chosen to eat.We felt it offered good value for money. This is a good, down to earth, rural pub somehow managing to survive in these turbulent times. We shall use it again to help them with this quest.

Nothing flashy about this pub but if you want a hearty no nonsense pub meal then this is great. Parking across the road and steep steps up to the front door so Granny needs a hand getting to a seat. Very dated decor but it’s clean and comfortable. Wish there were more pubs like this around.

This was a nostalgic trip for us: I was born in Groton and it is the first pub that my son remembers being taken to for a meal as a 7 year old. We had recently heard good reviews of the Fox so we decided to go there for my son's birthday and to take his daughter. And what a good decision it was. The welcome was friendly and we were given the window table in the restaurant, with views across nearby Boxford. There were 4 real ales which were well kept. The menu had a good choice, supplemented by the Specials Board. We aren't vegetarians but they were well catered for. There was also a good Children's menu. The food was excellent. The sirloin steak is supplied by the local Boxford butcher and the quality shone through, with it also being cooked to perfection. My granddaughter had her scampi and chips in a basket, which took me back to the late sixties when this was the first pub in the area to introduce basket meals. The service was just right and overall we were very impressed. We will certainly return.

We received a lovely warm welcome and were impressed with the food, wine and range of coffees available. We chose to eat in the bar but there is also a beautifully presented dining room which would not be out of place in a high end restaurant. Why this is listed under Ipswich on trip adviser is a complete mystery, Ipswich is about 15 miles away. The nearest town is Hadleigh a lovely market town about 6 miles away, whilst Groton itself is a Hamlet. The lovely couple who run the Fox and Hounds have been there for 9 years which is a great achievement when may rural pubs close down or frequently change hands, so well done to them! We will definitely be returning and highly recommend you give it a visit, you will not be disappointed.

This establishment is currently CLOSED. No sign yet of new owners: nothing but rumours! Hopefully a new venture can bring it back to what it was 20 years ago.

We have visited the Peacock a number of times over the last year and have never been disappointed. We visited on a Saturday lunchtime with family and as usual got a lovely welcome from Jack and the team. I had the mackerel, followed by a superb risotto, my husband had the quail then the Halibut. We then shared the delightful petit fours, a nice alternative to a traditional dessert. All the food was beautifully presented and incredibly tasty, I would not be surprised if the Michelin people show an interest soon as the restaurant does deserve recognition.

Thankfully the refurb still left this as a real pub.I had been worried that it would end up with barrels with high chairs around them ,stupid prices and more wine than beer. This is a real pub, not something pretending to be one. Great staff and great beer at a reasonable price.
