We arrived at the restaurant which is very dull and no ambiance at all. The chairs are in need of a clean and are stained, when I sat in one of the cushioned seats I fell down a lot further than expected and swapped my chair with another as I was so low. After ordering the food took a very long time to arrive, even though the restaurant was not busy at all. One of the starters were nachos which had obviously been sitting in the kitchen a length of time before being served as all the cheese had dried and gone cold and the nachos were just one big lump unable to seperate them as they’d been stuck together with the dried cheese. When the mains came out I asked for steak with garlic butter. It came with 2 lumps of garlic butter on, however as the steak was barely lukewarm the butter didn’t melt and I had to spread it over the steak. Steak was presented with a small amount of greenery, no tomato or anything else. Presentation in the whole was poor and not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. When we finished our meal we were told we couldn’t order dessert as the kitchen had closed but they could do us ice cream. We declined. Paid and went for drinks at the bar. I had a tea, when putting milk and sugar in I asked for some white sugar, sorry was the response, we don’t have any white sugar. Well I’ll just leave it there it needless to say we won’t be returning.

I came here for a spa experience which included a meal. The whole experience has left me repulsed. The food was vile. I ordered fish cakes and it had more salt on it than most of the Atlantic Ocean with no exaggeration. I was offered a chicken sandwich after complaining which was two pieces of stale bread with ice cold chicken and lots of mayo slapped on for good measure topped with floppy lettuce. To make matters worse the restaurant was filthy. All the chairs were dirty. I noticed that my trousers were wet after standing up. Upon checking my chair it was wet. Upon smelling my chair to investigate why it was wet I discovered it was urine. This is very disgusting and not at all acceptable. Avoid this place like the plague.

We haven't been here since before the first lockdown but was told they have revamped their restaurant and menu so we gave it a go... and we're so glad we did! The food is 4* and so is the service. The main menu looked tasty but we went with the added menu and the stuffed chicken was the best chicken we've ever eaten! Tart starters were lovely, as were the panna cotta (recommended by one of the servers Katie) & crumble, but the chicken was our favourite. The young staff were lovely too- Ben and Lucia were polite and efficient throughout. We are local and will return!

We used to come to this restaurant regularly. It was good food and a lovely ambience. Sadly neither is now true. My husband and I had booked for the restaurant, only to find we were placed slap bang in the middle of a coach party who had all arrived shortly before we did. The coach party were of course enjoying themselves with loud laughter - and were very "dressed down" -- as of course is often the case with coach parties. My husband and I felt totally overdressed. We had to wait half an hour for our starter - after my husband pointed out we were still waiting. We also had to ask for rolls, as they had not offered us any when we arrived. I'd like to say when the food arrived it was worth the wait - it wasn't. I had the pate - it was no more than ok. My husband's Caesar salad too ok. Then he had a pie and I had a steak with chips - no vegetables came with it, I had to order and pay for vegetables to go with it. I was not given a steak knife and tried to cut the steak with the cutlery provided - in vain, my husband had to track down a waiter to ask for a steak knife. However, as the steak was as tough as old boots, it only marginally helped. The chips were ok - but I expected better in a restaurant that describes itself as "one of the best restaurants in Chatham ". I had to leave half of my steak and chips, the steak was close to inedible. We gave up on desserts. When my husband pointed out to staff that we had not had a good experience, he was told that the restaurant has coach parties most days so it is always busy. If he had been warned when he booked that we were booking at the same time as a large coach party, we could have decided whether or not to go ahead with the booking - although to be honest, the food was so mediocre that there is nothing that would tempt me to return. So ambience nil, food probably 1 out of 10, and general experience poor. Such a shame, this used to be a very nice restaurant.

A dampener on a lovely spa day. Filled out a preorder form for our lunch at 9.30. 42 minutes late for a Chicken sandwich!! Yes a sandwich where they had to butter two slices of bread, put ready cooked chicken between the slices, open a bag of crisps and put some salad with sauce on a plate. Complained to a manager (we are not usually people to complain) and the manager offered to take the food away!! Finally offered a drink to go with our lunch as we had already brought and drunk two rounds to go with said lunch.

Rooms are an ok size for about 50 -75 people seated. Food was not great - it can be eaten but nothing wow about it. Bar placed in the rooms were basically dysfunctional with a bottle of wine going for £28. The bartenders allocated to our dinner party of 45 couldn't mix a drink to save their lives.the servers were neat, not coordianted but neat. The main bar though had an young black woman and she was on point with the baby guiness shots! Made our night! These 3 stars are for you hunnai! We booked a Sunday carvery lunch. We were shown to our table and requested water rather than wine. The jug was slapped down on the table and that was it. Five minutes later the drinks waiter arrived to take our order and he didn't know what Bitter Lemon was.....a little more training maybe. We requested glasses for our water. Throughout all this time, waiting staff were standing around talking but no-one e explained the self service system to us. Cutlery was sadly lacking too. The food was appetizing and tasty with a good choice of salads, meats and vegetables. There were four desserts and a pudding. The plates were cleared by a young lady who made no effort to engage with us. We sat around waiting for the bill and eventually gave up and went to the podium....more problems here so eventually escaped. While the food was pleasant enough I would not recommend this venue for a special occasion.

Following a meeting involving colleagues from Holland, Belgium and France we had booked a meal at Squires restaurant for approximately 20 people. The organiser had to sign a document guaranteeing full payment in the event of any no-shows, fair enough. We sat down at around 7:00 pm, I got my starter around one hour later, not the high quality fishcake described, rather something that looked de-frosted. This was followed by a shot glass of sorbet 20 mins later, then nothing for a further hour. Following complaints we were assured that the main courses were "on the pass" and would be out immediately, we then sat and watched while they served other tables that had arrived significantly after ours. I left at about 10:00 pm before the main course was served as I couldn't wait any longer. the next day I was told that all the main courses were of a very poor standard, and that most people left before the dessert.

I paid just short of £80 per person for lunch on Christmas Day here and it was awful. Not worth the money, would have been better value at the Harvester, but the way the menu and brochure was portrayed I thought this would special. It wasn't. Food was running out and cold, nothing was replaced unless you asked several times. No taste and I was so very disappointed. I did lodge a complaint afterwards and nothing was done, just lip service, no sort of compensation was offered. The email I received back from Guy was full of spelling mistakes and not even coherent. I cannot believe how dull and uninteresting the food was for our special occasion. And the Kitchen were given ample time to prepare it : 2 hours [ one hour waiting for Soup, which was quite a good Soup ; another hour waiting for awful "main" course ]. Crisis in the Kitchen there might have been that evening - but why no apology ? Why did I have to draw attention to the wait? Surely the Waiter should know we were waiting? And why no Inspector of food before it got as far as our table? An Inspector would have thrown out a bit of unappetizing steamed fish on a bed of dry peas- ungraced by cheese sauce or mushroom sauce or onion sauce. My companions' main courses were no more edible: Nouvelle Cuisine done badly. Better to revert to good wholesome food traditionally presented with plentiful dishes of fresh vegetables for the Table to serve out between the 6 of us. On the other hand, the slim desserts were satisfactory as far as they went, Latterly , staff did appear to wish us Happy Birthday & to take a photograph - but this was 6 times a ridiculous, stratospheric, £28 completely down the drain. 3 hours later.

We've been to this restaurant before and heard from the staff about their March Taster Menu so we thought we'd give it a go and we're so glad we did. The bread board was first and the lovely waitress suggested we have the 2nd starter (mixed bean soup) straight away so we could dip our bread in the soup- great idea as they were both so yummy! The 2 main courses were hake and pheasant. We love fish so the hake was a winner but we have never tried pheasant and it was gorgeous! Such a surprise. Desserts were warm chocolate brownie with coconut ice cream (lovely combination) and a local cheese board- something for us both. The portions were not tiny and we left full and satisfied! The food here is always high quality and the staff are always so welcoming- Jack, Abbie, Imogen, Charlotte and Katie. All this for £29...And a cocktail each made by the bar supervisor Dylan!! Tiny criticism, veg was roasted not plain boiled which isn't to everyone's taste, and the broccoli was quite hard and not quite so pleasant, but everything else was very tasty and well presented. I always judge a carvery by its roasties, and these are delish... Choice of starters, roast meats and puddings plus cheese and biscuits if you can manage them. At £17.95 not bad for a yummy lunch in pleasant surroundings.

I recently ate here to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of two friends. We were shown to our table and found that, unasked, the staff had decorated the table with small golden decorations. A kind and unexpected touch. We were given our menus and asked if we would like drinks and left to peruse the menu. There were about nine or ten choices for each course and my choice was the goats cheese salad which consisted of two large scoops of soft goats cheese with a large serving of mixed salad and was very good. This was followed by a main course which I chose rib eye steak and my friends chose the lamb. These were cooked to order and were perfectly cooked. They were served with grilled mushroom and tomato and a side of fries. As a desert we enjoyed treacle tart with ice-cream and a crème caramel. The portion size of the treacle tart was the only dish which I felt was overpriced. I know we are supposed to eat less sugar but I felt that £6-50 for a very small slice and a small scoop of ice-cream was exorbitant. The service by Jack and Morgan was excellent and by the end of the evening we were all having a good laugh together. Stayed over as working close by, room was large and comfortable, lights rather dim for reading. A little dated but ok for the price generally for the room. I didn't enjoy the dinner however, basically prawn coctail and lamb shank which was presented in a very very sweet and nasty jus. The vegatables I added were priced extra. For the price I could have had two meals in a decent restaurant so felt a bit let down. Annoyingly the young and inexperienced waitresses asked me six or seven times if i was 'enjoying my meal' and 'is everything to your satisfaction sir'. After one IPA the tap ran dry too. Breakfast was fine and wide selection available. Check in reception and hotel staff were great and helpful, if the restaurant improves and tries to be a little less something it is not then highly recommended. Good car-parking and access.

THE FOOD!,On previous occasions the food had been good and we were all looking forward to a delicious meal. The starters which I can only comment on two the pate and the prawn cocktail were bland and not interesting at all. The main course which once again I can only comment on two. Firstly the roast turkey when my plate arrived it was swimming in a watery gravy, the turkey was cold, the roast potatoes had a twang and certainly were the most bland pale roast I had ever seen, the Brussels sprouts were hard need I go on. It makes me so sad when a large establishment cannot get a basic Christmas dinner right. The people who opted for beef could not cut it it was so tough. The sweets were insipid. On the good side the waiting staff were bery pleasant.

The menu was varied and with good wine selection. We both had starters followed by delicious lamb for myself and a generous home made burger for my husband. We couldn't find room for a dessert. If anything, I feel the meal and drinks a little on the pricey side but I was happy to pay this for the quality and quantity of all that we chose. On to the service. The restaurant was fairly busy with what looked like a tour group but the service was excellent and from mostly young staff who should be commended on their efficiency. Initially started well. It was mid week lunch time, we not only got a parking space but we found a table and the bar person cleared it for us. Placed our order and got a drink. 35 mins it took to get a chicken Ceasar and a sandwich. I think they had to hatch the chicken! Benefit of doubt given, so ordered a dessert. Only wanted coffee and a piece of cake. Drank the coffee and waited another 35 mins for the cake, by which time we had drunk all our coffee. Another customer came in and got her sandwich in ten minutes. Bar person (not the same one that took our order) did not seem to care at all! We did get a free coffee though. Won’t be going there again! We did ask if they were short staffed, but there weren’t! Over-priced!

Thank you very much. The table had sprinkles, and happy birthday sprinkles already waiting for us on the table, and was already reserved for us as well. The Food was really nice, and service was great. Not much more to add, but to say that we definately be coming back again, and recommending you to our friends.Nice relaxed dinner despite coach parties and residents being attended too.

Me and my husband came here in the evening for our anniversary in July. The food was amazing! My husband had the seabass and even though he has high standards when it comes to fish dishes, he loved it. I had a steak dish and mine was perfect too. This is one of the reasons we keep coming back here but also for the staff. They all smile and are genuinely happy to serve you; Andrew with his tray explaining the dishes as he puts them down, Jackie enthusiasticly took our order and gave us some great recommendations and Supervisor Katie running the restaurant- always happy to chat while keeping the restaurant running. When chatting we mentioned it was our anniversary and the waitresses organised a lovely 'happy anniversary plate' with our desserts. Thank you so much girls! I know where my husband will be taking me next year :-)

Not a very quiet restaurant as it attracts coach tours, wedding families and the tables are not suitable for a relaxing intimate dinner for two. Menu was fairly limited, steaks plus a few alternatives but the meals were well presented and tasty. The wine , if you want a decent quality is very expensive at £8 a glass!

This was a thoroughly disappointing experience. Firstly lunch is served in the bar during the week. Myself and a group of friends visited to celebrate my birthday, the experience was comical with every stage being a scene from kitchen nightmares from the quality of the food, value and service, all I can say is that having eaten out significantly this hotel is taking customers for fools. After much discussion with staff and management the result, after being initially offered free dessert which either came out frozen solid or was so small the one raspberry was bigger than the tart, we refused to pay, not an ideal outcome to celebrate a birthday. Before I forget, drink prices are the same as London, lemonade and lime £4.50!!!!

Booked for 17 family members to celebrate Fathers Day...We were in a room of our own, good service, clean, help yourself to courses, good choice, all looked very appetising, have as much or as little as you like. The roast was delicious, my only criticism was that the chef carved up roast beef, bit too rare for my liking, so opted for the turkey, but instead of using a seperate board, he wiped the blood covered beef board down with a cloth, assume he was going to do that continuously throughout service...wrong in my opinion...Desserts very nice too.. Very nice enjoyable meal, good value reasonable price.I am very fussy and picky with my roasts...and this was one of the best!

Went there to meet a client, was very disappointed. Tables where dirty, used the toilet, ladies monthly sitting in a toilet, found a half decent toilet, but broken toilet holder. Then to top it off they charged £6.60 for a tea and coffee, and unable to offer me a receipt. I was unable to complain due to entertaining a client. Hence to say will NOT be holding a meeting there again.

Took my mum here for lunch. We got to the bar, but the waitress went to serve another couple first... anyway.... We both ordered the beer battered fish and chips with minted green peas. The best thing on this plate were the 20 small chips in a wire basket. Fish was so small and greasy, no beer batter, just tasted greasy with no seasoning. Peas were not minty and dry if it were from days and days ago, however the presentation of the peas in a jug was ok. A pint of coke was over £4 !!! We were both looking forward to this lunch time meal and we were both bitterly disappointed. NEVER AGAIN

Visited to try the Sunday carvery. The service was very good for the most part. The selection of starters was excellent. There was a good choice of freshly cooked meat and the choice of vegetables and potato was good. Deserts were nice too. Overall a very enjoyable Sunday lunch.

My eight friends and I went for afternoon tea.It was the worse experience we had. After charging £5.05 for a small water and soda and lime, was told the girl was new so that was why We were overcharged.Waited 40 minutes before we was offered tea or coffee,no serviettes crockery was more for a cafe, not a hotel.the sandwiches witch some girls had 3 but most only had 2 ,the one scone was fine, but the cakes if you can call them that was awful. For £13.00 pounds a head it was a real ripp off.The service was awful ,maybe due to a wedding they had,but this was not down to them to disregard us.Will never go back EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The staff at this restaurant are very friendly and welcoming. The menu looked really lovely. Lovely sounding meals!! Although the reality is, it's vey basic food!! Nothing wrong with it. The food was tasty and hot. But no better than a old pub meal! We was staying in the hotel for a few days, the breakfast was very good. Everything you could want for breakfast. Was very impressed! Again the staff in the whole hotel are very polite, chatty and friendly.

After a busy day in London we decided to stop and enjoy an early evening meal in the Squires restaurant and can not fault the attention and service we received on arrival. We were warmly greeted, and although we had not booked, were shown to our table.I opted for the rib-eye steak and my wife the lamb shank.....both were well presented and very enjoyable. The waitress who served us was really polite, helpful and friendly.Towards the end of the evening the restaurant was filling up and obviously staff were stretched, but it can not excuse the rudeness of two couples sitting next to our table who 'complained' about a lack of menus, not having their drinks served immediately, and being downright rude to the waitress.....I wasn't impressed !!!All credit to the staff on the night who in my opinion did a brilliant job and patience is a virtue. We definitely will be returning to enjoy a good quality meal in comfortable surroundings.

Was expecting a lovely meal in a four star hotel with my very dear friend whom I have not seen for six months and was very disappointed we both ordered the chicken and leek pie with mash and baby carrots after waiting 45 minutes for the meal to arrive it consisted of an earthen ware dish with the chicken and leek and a rather pale looking puff pastry top a neatly arranged mound of mash potato also a bundle of baby carrots the vegetables were cold the pastry under cooked, my friend had her pastry cooked more but they left the vegetables to get cold we did mention this to the waitress she arranged for us to have a complementary drink and the chef gave us a complementary dessert, which was all very nice but the meal had been very disappointing which was supposed to be a special reunion, but the staff did do all they could to rectify the problem and we left having had a good catch up.

Would definitely advise booking before hand as when we went people were turned away as it was fully booked. Excellent food and service. All the staff have a wonderful manner and are very attentive. It's self service with a huge amount to choose from. Starters , salads, prawns and smoked salmon, pasta and rice dishes with cold meats and of course soup. Main were various meats with the chef carving them for you, this time it was gammon, turkey and delicious roast beef. All the veg was kept nice and hot and was cooked to perfection, deserts were excellent too, something for everyone fruit, cheesecake, chocolate torte, apple crumble and cheese and biscuits. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant and hotel.Around £20 per person. and £10 for children.

It was a nice comfortable dining room and the food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. The vegetarian selection however was not very exciting and my vegetarian guest said her meal was stogy and not very nice. Decided to go to this restaurant for my birthday meal with my husband as we have had several excellent meals here. The menu has changed for the summer but was just as lovely. I had the mackerel starter, chicken with peas a la francais main and apple tart tatin. All cooked perfectly and reasonably priced, but it is also the service that keeps us returning. The new restaurant manager was so friendly, as was Katie and Andrew. Thank you chef for the thoughtful birthday plate! The next day was my actual birthday and we popped back in for breakfast. It was busy but under control and we had a relaxed meal. The food again was wonderful and so much choice! And was so lovely that Amina the supervisor came over to personally wish me a happy birthday. Overall, a fantastic evening and birthday.

We all had a great time there were jugs of Water already on the table which is fantastic as you normally have to ask for them separate, I would highly recommend the Sunday lunch here one for all the family!

Just left this restaurant and just feel hugely disappointed. We went for the Sunday carvery with a large family group of 17, seating at 1.30The dinner was nowhere near the standard you would expect from this class of Hotel.Roast potatoes burnt, veg overcooked, and meat not good enough. The dessert that I wanted was all dried up and not replenished, but I will admit that they did prepare a pud for me especially. The worst thing for me was that the crockery was not cleared between courses and I waited the best part of 30 mins to go and get my main meal, eventually clearing my own plate. This carvery costs £17.95 it's never worth it.

Was booked in for the 9.30pm meal and was not seated until gone 10pm. The evening was advertised as having entertainment. This consisted of a man sat at a table whilst Michael Buble was blared from a cd system, no singing, nothing else at all!The meal itself was billed as a 4 course. The best part of the meal was the starter which I chose was the chicken praifat. The so called champagne sorbet was just frozen lemonade in a teardrop glass!! Of which came complete witha short dark hair on the plate!! Disgusting!! Had the most driest chicken breast for mains with inedible vegtables which were so visably unappealing I could not bare to taste and had hardly any gravy on the plate. The dessert was meant to be lemon meringue but consisted of a small lemon curd tart with crumbled up meringue on top!All in all a total waste of time and money and will not forget this valetines for all the wrong reasons!!

Visiting the Bridgewood Manor on the 2nd January 2014 as an extended family of 7, meeting up for a 'late-lunch'. Although I am unable to rate the hotel itself (it does sound lovely!) or the quality of the food itself (explained later) I can certainly rate the service - poor. When arriving, we were seated on several large, comfortable chairs positioned around a small table (it would have been a bit awkward to eat on there). The staff were friendly enough and gave us all some menus. We ordered some drinks - and were disappointed to say the least. Two of us asked for a mix of OJ and lemonade, but instead received OJ mixed with what tasted like carbonated water. When asking the waiter politely to return the item and give us another drink mentioning that it tasted like 'carbonated water', the waiter then replied: 'I know, sorry about that. I'll take it back straight away. This was far under our expectations. We then ordered the (fairly expensive) food, which did sound lovely. Although I am unable to state exactly what all of us ordered, I can remember one of the items - a BLT something-or-other for two people. Everyone else ordered other items from the menu. The waiter arrived back to the table about 10 minutes later to tell us that there was none of one of the things we had ordered. Fifty minutes later, we were told that now BLT 'things' were available. We were anxious to eat, and therefore ordered something else from the menu, hoping that it would arrive promptly. Around 20 minutes later, some servings of chips that had been ordered with some of the meals had arrived - but were served at completely different times and they were absolutely stone cold. After this, we decided that we should leave. We did not eat our chips, and we complained to the manager - because...1. The waiter did not know what was available, and only told us what was a long way through the meal. 2. Our drinks tasted of carbonated water.3. We had waited long enough - it was like the main dishes were simply not going to arrive. The manager spoke to us, gave us a rather unprofessional reply and mentioned that they would be glad to see you again, and that they were sorry that this had happened. Considering how long we had waited, as well as the inconvenience we had experience, it would have been nice to have been given a gesture of good will (giving us the drinks for free) but this didn't happen. Most of the staff were friendly and the food sounded nice, but unfortunately the service was lackluster. I would therefore not be able to recommend this BAR-RESTAURANT. -Coollegoguy4.

What could be simpler than a ham sandwich on brown bread? Not something you could mess up easily. Surely? What I got was a sandwich between 2 extremely stale slices of white bread. Oh and the appetising ring of "honey roast" ham was more of the 'plastic' budget supermarket variety. A simple selection from the lunch menu - come on guys...

A lovely Sunday family lunch. A busy but friendly atmosphere. They were able to seat 8 adults and four small children comfortably. We had booked some time ago though. My wife and I had the Sunday roast beef. Lovely big yorkshire pudding and beef very good! My only complaint is that the broccoli was undercooked and it would have been nice to have more than two mangetout. Service couldn't be faulted.
