Went yesterday for afternoon tea . Well what can I say it was dreadful . Was asked if we wanted tea or coffee asked for Redbush no they did not have that so ordered one green tea and one mint. They then come back and said they did not have that either. We could only have ordinary tea. Which we don’t drink. Asked if some one could go to the shop just down the road. Which they did but then when it did arrive they gave us both mint tea. We had four fingers of mixed sandwiches each . A rock hard scone with jam and cream and one sickly looking chocolate cup cake and dark looking fruit cake. We did not eat the cake. Asked general manager for 2 glasses of Prosecco . Which we was charged £10 . Definitely won’t be going back there.

Lovely hotel but one could get lost with all the rooms. We went to the restaurant for dinner. The food was lovely but the waiter’s shoes were annoying as you could hear him coming and going. Also we were sort of kicked out as it was 11 and they wanted to go home

First to the pass for the privilege of eating a tiny portion of poorly cooked meat and an array of bog standard cold vegetables. Understaffed but no excuse for the lack of care and customer service shown. Dirty tablecloths, cutlery and plates - nothing good to say about it at all sadly

We booked a table for three for the Sunday Carvery. Table was booked for 12 noon but letting them know we may arrive slightly later. On arrival (at 11.55) the first impression was poor; dozens of dirty glasses piled up on the bar opposite the entrance door. The sole visible member of staff was trying (unsuccessfully for over five minutes) to take a payment from another family. Meanwhile, a quick glance in the dark, empty restaurant revealed no carvery set up and no tables laid. When the member of staff became available we said we had a table booked and were told; oh, ok I'll go and lay a table for you... At 12.10 we asked when the carvery would be ready (as we needed to be away by 1.15pm) to be told; oh, it's ready now, I'll let chef know you're here. At this point we were shown through to the restaurant. Only two tables were laid. Our table had dirty marks on the tablecloths and the very cheap cutlery was grubby. Shortly after, another family arrived to sit on the other table. Then we waited whilst watching the chef amble in and out of the kitchen carry single plates/dishes of food. Eventually at 12.30 we asked again when it would be ready to serve to be told, oh, you can go up now if you want... We were handed plates, two out of the three of which we felt the need to wipe to remove visible specks. We were then served meat, one tiny slice of gammon and two even smaller slices of turkey and beef. I am going to guess now that the Sunday Carvery here is not busy as I've cooked bigger joints at home for three of us! There was a good, if unimaginative, selection of vegetables. Sadly though, no sauces or other condiments and no salt or pepper on the tables. On starting to eat the meal it was tepid at best but as we needed to eat and be away within 25 minutes by this point we decided to get on with it. In the meantime, another couple had also come in for the carvery. Within five minutes of starting to eat, they left their food and asked for a refund. Shortly after that the other family (despite having eaten most of their meal) also asked for a refund. At this point another member of staff (apparently, although you'd never know from her clothing) asked if everything was ok with our meals. I said that it had been lukewarm and that the chef probably needed to check the temperature of the bain marie. She said thanks, she'd let him know... Within a few minutes we'd eaten our meals and needed to leave to make it to our afternoon event; so, no inclusive dessert (no desserts even on show) for any of us and no offer from the staff as we got up to leave. As we walked back through the bar they were just starting to clear the mound of dirty glasses. All in all, it's hard to imagine how it could have been less impressive. The whole place feels tired, the food was second rate at best and the few staff there were on duty could not have looked less interested if they'd tried. It felt like no-one had any sense of purpose or pride in their role and there was absolutely zero evidence of any form of customer service or care. It goes without saying, we will not being going back any time soon.

We went to the restaurant for a cheeky midweek meal. We were the only diners on this Wednesday evening. There was no ambience to the place... At all. I streamed a radio station on my phone for some background music. The food was delicious tho and they accommodated my vegetarian choice without hesitation. However, we felt very rushed to leave which was a bit annoying as there were no other diners. We felt that it would've been better to have not offered dining on this night (possibly any week night) Nice food but you need more than that to avoid a rubbish evening.

The Afternoon Tea was a gift via a Groupon Voucher, I had pre-booked and asked for 1 savoury and 1 sweet tea- this request made no difference to what I know is probably a standard 'package'. Our stay was a total of 40 minutes, the general atmosphere was quiet and the place a little dated . We were sat in the bay of conservatory which was a little on the stuffy side, the window seal that surrounded the table had clearly not seen a duster in a good few days. I concur with a previous comment that people standing outside smoking nearby isn't a great nearby view so perhaps the fact the windows were shut was a good thing. Staff were friendly and we we were promptly seated and a glass of 'bubbly' served , the bubbly wasn't great -a cheap sparkling wine I imagine neither glass was finished . Then a 2 tier cake stand arrived with 2 very large scones and 2 iced chocolate cakes , the bottom tier had a pot of jam , pot of cream and 8 tiny finger sandwiches , 4 brown (2 egg mayonnaise and 2 fish paste of some sort ) , 4 white (2 cucumber and 2 ham and mustard) , we had to ask for tea and along came one pot that was just enough for one cup of tea each , the tea was a tea bag but none the less the tea was ok. The sandwiches were small and rather tasteless - we left the 'fish paste ones' . The scones were ok though out of proportion to the 'savoury' sandwich side , the iced cakes were hard even perhaps a little stale so again most of it was left plus i discovered one had a small hair on it !. We decided to leave and left the table when a more Senior Lady (it would seem) indicated there was more cake (gateaux) to come ? - she was very nice and we did explain it was quite a let down and very disappointing and therefore we would rather just leave , she said she understood. So to conclude- in my view Afternoon Tea here is a waste of money , a Groupon/voucher may seem a good deal but the price probably reflects the quality , quality and standard of what you get and that is being generous. I would not return unfortunately and certainly would not gift a voucher to someone else , I am now in the position that IF asked how my 'gift experience' went I would have to be honest as I certainly wouldn't want anyone to waste their time or money as I could not recommend the afternoon tea unfortunately . I would lastly add I do not serially or frequently post negative reviews , on this occasion there was no other option.

Visited with a Groupon voucher which gave us 2 courses each for £19, and was value for money, we could order anything on the menu which was good, I had the stuffed mushroom and and the 8oz rump steak and my wife had the deep fried breaded brie, all courses were good, my steak was cooked to perfection (rare) and was tender wich was good as no steak knives were provided, my main issue is the decor, the restaurant looked tired and in need of a refurb, not the most inviting place, and the chef served the mains as he couldn't find the waitress, who also works on the bar so was very stretched. I will say the lady that served us was very friendly, respectful and very helpful. Overall worth s visit if you have a Groupon voucher.

Every other week for about a year now a group of us meet up for Afternoon Tea for a get together and to catch up. There can be between 4-20 at any time and although we try to go somewhere different we do occasionally go back to places that we really enjoyed. Of all the places we’ve been for Afternoon Tea this was by far the worst. 10 of us were booked in at 12:30. A few were running a bit late so we didn’t actually sit down until 12:45. We didn’t get our food until 1:15. We let the waitress know that we all wanted tea so no coffee. We had finished our sandwiches but still no tea. We went to look for the waitress and who we assumed to be the manager who greeted us when we first arrived but neither could be found. When we did eventually find the waitress we asked for the tea. By now we had finished our scones and cake but still no tea. In our past experiences the tea is always brought out first but maybe here it’s done differently. We eventually got our tea after asking for it a second time. Also this is the first time we had finished our tea and were still hungry. The portions were tiny. We definitely will not be returning here for our Afternoon Tea

Booked through Groupon, this was the worst afternoon tea I have ever had. Four finger sandwiches, with ham that looked like luncheon meat, others were crispy round the edges. One tiny scone (which was like a rock cake) and one small cupcake. I didn’t expect the Ritz by any means but it really was awful. Never ever again! 🤮

Disappointed afternoon tea. Only four finger sandwiches with very thin fillings. No offer of tea or coffee and when requested was forgotten. One small pot of tea was provided between two people with no offer of refill. One of the desserts had a long black hair draped over it! Will not be returning.

We went here for my daughter in laws baby shower: afternoon tea. Service diabolical - not enough sandwiches only gave us our tea when we asked for it (with no milk) when we asked for milk took 1/2 hour to get so tea was undrinkabke. Sandwiches limited choice and fillings sparse (actually ok if you were in a diet). Choice ham and mustard/egg/cucumber and I think tuna (not sure to be fair). All sandwiches were sent out together so we had to pick out lactose free (even though they buttered them) and gluten free from the others. One small scone each but nothing for lactose or gluten free chaps as nothing offered. One Tesco cupcake each in strawberry ice or chocolate flavour and that was it. When we complained we were given a slice of cheesecake each - again food intolerant people couldn’t eat this so they brought out melon after another wait. Food rough, service crap. It was only the fact we were with great people the afternoon was good. The organiser made the afternoon great with her games etc but would definitely NOT recommend.

I will always try and see the positive in any situation, but I struggled here. We came for a Sunday lunch as we live locally and have never visited. Please be aware that on a Sunday it is carvery ONLY and if you can’t eat that then there is no alternative. You don’t get offered an alternative, you will not be allowed to order from the main menu and you will have to stay hungry and sit and watch everyone else eat (personal experience). That being said if you enjoy a carvery, this still isn’t the place to come. Once the meat is all gone, there is no more to come. The turkey had ran out on this occasion so we were stuck with beef or pork. The beef was very chewy and definitely not recommended by those in my group to have it. The veg was also apparently soggy. You do get a free dessert if you book in advance however. We didn’t stay to try it after a let down of a visit. A few members of the group didn’t eat at all and those that did wished that they hadn’t. Staffing wise, this needs addressing by the management. The restaurant was very busy and the wait staff had no time to do check on tables and man the bar. Drinks were offered on arrival, great. Sadly this was the only accession that we were offered and we had to chase if we wanted another. There were definitely not enough staff waiting, the bar was often unattended and there didn’t appear to be anyone in charge overseeing things. I would recommend that another menu is available for those with dietary requirements be available on a Sunday. All other major chains do this (alongside the ticketing system the management replied to someone else’s review with...) This ticketing system also was not in place when we visited. Sadly this will be my first and last visit until changes have been made. The place has great potential in a historic building that has been in place for a long time. It needs someone who can look after it a bit more so that it’s not just half hearted.

I visited the Larkfield Priory restaurant today for lunch with three girlfriends. We used our Meerkat voucher, which I'd told the person I'd spoken to on the phone when I booked I intended to. When we arrived we thought we'd come to the wrong place. The lounge and restaurant was totally empty. Considering its two weeks before Christmas we found this strange. We rang the bell and a young lady eventually came and took a drinks order. I asked about the Meerkat offer but she wasn't sure what it was so had to go to find out. We took our seats at the table and ordered our food. Not a bad menu. However, my friend and I had baked camembert. It arrived but didn't seem to be cooked thoroughly. When we asked the waitress she said she didn't know how it should look 😂.Our waitress then disappeared and a young man took over. The rest of the meal was ok, nothing special. We asked for a jug of water. He asked did we want lemon with it and we said yes. We laughed when it arrived, minus glasses but with half a slice of lemon in a large jug of water! The waiter then disappeared and we had to go hunting for him to get our bill. He didn't offer coffees or ask did we need more drinks. If we hadn't used our meal deal voucher we'd have been really discussed. The whole experience was pretty awful. Wouldn't recommend visiting unless you want a really quiete lunch. We won't be going back.. Unless it's to offer customer service training to the staff.

Thought we'd give it a try as we are local, the service was very good, although the restaurant was extremely quiet with only a couple of other tables occupied. The food was fine, not the best I've ever had but not the worst, we got a discount through meerkat meals so found the value fine for what we paid, but I would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price. The food was all standard pub grub, well presented and edible, but nothing exciting or different to try. I had a chicken caesar salad which was ok, but the chicken was dry and the croutons tasted a little stale. There were only a couple of options for my vegetarian daughter, of which she would only consider one and didn't eat much of it. I also found the atmosphere very lacking, that may be because we went on a Monday night and it was particularly quiet, but I don't know if that's the norm or not. I've tried quite a few places locally and do prefer everywhere else so doubtful I'd come again. I guess if you want to guarantee a table and like the quiet it would be fine, but it's not really my cup of tea and when I eat out I want a treat, not something I could cook and prepare better myself at home.

Went to reception to require to be told they were all on a cigarette break - this was 7pm ..went out for a meal .. came back to drunken youth hanging around the receptionist...and it was noisy in corridors so in a nutshell got my case and drove home during the evening...

Six of us visited this Restaurant last night. It was a wednesday. We arrived at about 7.15pm and were shown to our table. The waitress took our drinks order. I ordered a gin and tonic with no ice. One of our party wanted a cider but was told they were out of most beers but they had some fosters. After about 10 minutes or so, my gin and tonic arrived with the glass filled to the brim with ice. I immediately told the waitress, this was not what I asked for. It was removed 10 minutes later and took about another 10 minutes to replace.

The restaurant was closed as the chef called in sick that day. I made the reservation for the afternoon at 2pm so I asked why (a) why no one called me and (b) why the restaurant has to close for one chef calling in sick. Surely a large restaurant has more than one cook on a Sunday? I was not met with a polite response and was told to go to reception. When I asked why, I was told so they can apologise. Table booked online. On arrival was told booking wasnt written down but "thats ok". Overheard guests of hotel being told the Sunday carvery was off due to issue with chef. Waited for a while for the starter (while being asked by 2 different members of staff "is this for you" as they brought out main courses meant for people who wisely chose to eat in the lounge). Main course brought out while starters had not quite been finished. Then an agonising 20 minute wait for dessert (agonising as we sat trying to talk above noise of tables being dragged around, staff calling to each other and sound of plates cups etc being laid out for breakfast ... at 9.45pm on a Saturday night). Finally the waitress who served us remembered we were there (their only customers by this time) and asked if we wanted something. "Yes our puddings" was our reply. A further wait of 5 minutes to be told that they didn't have the puddings we'd asked for as the strawberries had "gone off". Abysmal service. They gave us 10% off without us complaining or asking as they even realised how we had been let down. My first ... and last .... visit to this establishment.

Just getting our initial drinks at the bar was hard work, the bar staff were new and seemed untrained. One of the drinks had to be returned because the lemonade had no fizz whatsoever, this was replaced along with two flat cokes. They then realised they needed a new gas bottle.

My husband and I were bought Afternoon Tea for two at this Hotel on arriving we noticed out the front of the Hotel there were cigarette buts laying on the ground plus other litter it was very scruffy. We waited in the bar area to be served as we weren’t sure where Afternoon Tea was held, a lady eventually came and asked us to wait no Hello Sir/ Madam or Good Afternoon. We waited she eventually came back and asked if we were there for tea we said yes she showed us to our seats and said tea coffee or fuzz I asked if they did decafe she said yes when she arrived with our drinks she bought a small pot of tea for my husband and two Nescafe sachets of decafe coffee and the same size teapot of hot water for my coffee. There was no atmosphere no music and when I asked if I could sit at a bigger table as I had a plaster cast on and I needed to keep my foot up she said why didn’t you let us know not all the tables are laid up for afternoon tea and did a big sigh it took her a few seconds to move the wine glasses and cutlery but she made me feel like I was a nuisance. She then bought the sandwiches and cakes out and said the fuzz would be out shortly. The fillings in the sandwiches weren’t very exciting ham and mustard, egg mayo, salmon spread and cucumber and cream cheese I was disappointed that I was not given a pot of coffee and my husband was disappointed that he only got a small pot of tea. Eventually that lady disappeared and a different more smarter much more professional lady appeared asking if we wanted more tea and coffee, and did we want our slice of cake I asked what cake as we had already had two cakes after our sandwiches, she said sorry she should have told you we are giving you a slice of cake when you have finished your food, we asked what the cake was and she mentioned three types so we chose our cake.

They waited 20 minutes before anyone even approached them after ringing a bell continuously. When they were seated the food served was less of a standard than a £1 sandwich from Tesco that was in the reduced section on its last legs, lack of filling and flavourless. One small cake and a scone. The bubbles as stated in the purchase couldn't have been any flatter. The service was appalling and the atmosphere not one you would expect for an afternoon tea but more of a working mans club. Never again will I waste my money on this establishment I could have put together what they had to eat for £5 or less.

Cupcakes looked like something out of a child's cake mix where u add water icing was almost pure butter. Scones were rock hard and my nieces scone didn't even have a bottom. To be honest it all looked like recycled food from previous customers which i doubt there would have been as they place was deserted apart from a table next 2 us with a couple who were also amused by what was going on.

Our waitress was very accommodating and supplied us with copious amount of tea and we were made to feel very welcome to stay there all afternoon. The bubbly was light and refreshing, we enjoyed it very much. The sandwiches were delicious (ham, egg mayonnaise, cucumber and tuna) as were the cup cakes and scones with cream and jam. This was followed by a large slice of carrot cake which we couldn't finish so our waitress wrapped it up for us to take home. So where do I start I am very very unhappy with the service we received at this hotel-I had organised an afternoon tea for my friends baby shower at 12.00, we turned up half hour before as we was advised - so we could decorate etc! But there was no one around rang the bell loads and finally a lady come out and did not know anything about the booking and said they don't do afternoon tea on a Sunday! I weren't happy as in half hour 19 people were turning up!!!!!!!!!Eventually at now about 10 to 12 she found the booking but the room now needed to be set up!!!! And she wouldn't let us in to put banners etc up untill they had set up!In the meantime the mum to be and guests had turned up so I had to keep them in bar area, where they then couldn't order any drinks as there was again no one around. I then asked if some of the sandwiches could be done without butter due to a couple of allergies the gentleman said yes not a problem, and went straight to the kitchen! Now 1.15 and food still hasn't turned up! so asked where food was - then it turned up but only enough for half of us so had to go n ask for another tray, which we did get pretty much straight away BUT still short for two people, so these two people had to have bits off other people's trays, which is unacceptable considering we had paid for everyone and even one person didn't even turn up but had paid her full amount! There were no sandwiches without butter. We had to send one pot of coffee back as it had all bits in it.A few of the Cups had all stain marks and on the glasses lipstick marks! And as we was leaving, there were other people sitting around having 'afternoon tea' to which when we arrived we were told they don't do on a Sunday. And considering all this had gone on, we never got an apology and our waitress was really not very attentive barely gave us a smile! So as you can imagine I was really not very happy at all!!!!!I have never complained about anything ever before but i set up an account especially to make this review!!!! DISCUSTING!!!!!!!I

Went there today with some trepidation having read the reviews. The building's a mess and there was only one other couple eating tea at 4pm. But we were made to feel welcome, given a nice window table and served an OK tea. The attentive waiter offered us more tea or coffee, twice asked our opinion on the food and gave us cake to take home to the grandchildren. No, it won't win any prizes – but, hey, what do you lot expect for £8 a head? You'd pay that for the wine in a lot of places. Get real, everyone!

Where to start? Tatty hotel bordering scruffy. I purchased two Luxury Afternoon Teas through Groupon (I really should have thought about it being too good to be true) the offer was £15.95 but claimed the actual price to be £49.90 which I would have demanded back in full had I paid this.We were sat overlooking the car park and main road (not lovely) and the table was sticky and the windowsills were dirty. Not a great start. The waitress offered us our glass of bubbly - it was Lambrini (fizzy pear juice - Perry) and not nice. Next followed the afternoon tea which consisted of four sandwiches each, all thickly spread with margarine which we had to scrape off and reconstruct the sandwiches. Egg, tuna, cucumber and what I can only describe as plastic ham. Next came the two very very small scones which were fresh with cream and a horrid jelly like jam with no fruit in it whatsoever. Two supermarket type chocolate muffins smeared with buttercream and sprinkles(!) which were stale and two slices of carrot cake, again, bought in and very artificial in flavour. The waitress was polite and offered more tea and coffee but to be honest we were wanting to just chat and ignore the food. It's a shame. The place is fairly awful and there's nothing luxurious about the afternoon tea. It's best forgotten and if you want a proper experience then pay the price and go elsewhere. I have had nicer tea and cake in a supermarket cafe.

Arrived 20 minutes early. Only one member of staff on duty and she was very stressed even though there were only 3 other small groups in bar and restaurant. Weren't able to have a prosecco as none in fridge, so we settled for a glass of wine whilst we were waiting. Lounge area seating was nice and comfortable. Our afternoon tea was disappointing: sandwiches small and felt like they had been made some time previous. Selection was tuna, egg, cucumber and ham with mustard. Two fairy cakes and scones with jam and clotted cream completed the selection. The bubbly was revolting - far too sweet. I asked if they had anything less sweet but was told that was all there was. Tea was good but we were not offered a top-up. Towards the end we were brought out two large slabs of chocolate cake which was nice but I would have preferred it to come out with the other food so I could pace myself!Would I go again? Probably not.

The worst afternoon tea we have ever experienced, no cloth on table, paper napkins, only given one pot of tea and no choice offered and not asked if we require a top up, very poor selection of sandwiches, more mustard than ham in the sandwich, egg only in another, a bit of tuna in the next, eight small triangles in total. The scones were good, the preserve was definitely not home made as suggested on the website . We had to ask for the champagne, which was more like a sparkling wine and very sweet, would question if in fact champagne, which was advertised and paid for. This was a Christmas gift and not what was expected as advertised. Thoroughly disappointed and will definitely not return or recommend

Went on a groupon voucher for Mother's Day and can say I really wouldn't have gone on the full price of it( it's not worth it at all!) the sandwiches where not finger sandwiches more like something your nan cuts up for the kids and not a great selection, no salmon, no cress, just cucumber, just egg. The cakes were bought in not home made and far too big, the bubbly was flat, the only good thing was the big pot of coffee between 4 of us and the scones but at £25 person for full price I'd rather go somewhere a little more. I guess you get what you pay for

I had read the reviews on this before, but came with an open mind for the experience. We had to walk into a bar full of what looked liked workmen when we arrived which was quite intimidating, then told to wait while they were served their beer, If i had paid the £49.90 that they reckon this costs i would have asked for my money back, we priced up what we were given and don't think it cost them £10 total, the sandwich filling missed the bread, cakes were from supermarket. We didn't even have a cloth on the table, some did some didnt. The treatment of the old lady who was being treated for her 90th birthday was appalling she was just left standing and waiting to be seated even though it was evident she had a walking aid and would need assistance.Sorry i will not be recommending this.

The following email i sent ot the Hotel sums it up, and the fact they couldn't even be bothered to reply despite sending it twice, says how much they care.................We opted for the Carvery and must say we were extremely disappointed, the vegetables were obviously frozen from a packet and barely warmed in a ban-marie, which we found to be the case with the rest of the vegetables, the parsnips in particular looked well past their best. As much of the main meal was left, we thought we would order desert, after waiting for some time I had to call the waiter over, who when asked what was on the dessert menu was not exactly enamoured that we were wanting to order (it was quite obvious to us that we had outstayed our welcome and that he wanted to go home); Profiteroles for my son were great, but sadly the limp slices of apple pie which my wife and I had were sadly lacking, they were very thin and again tepid and there could not of been more than two tablespoons of custard on the pie. Part way through my meal I had to use the toilet, and there was no hand soap, I notified my waiter of this who mumbled something under his breath to the bar girl and walked off, this had not been addressed by the time we had left; additionally, due to the wedding fair being on and packing up, the exit door was open hence a massive draft, I therefore pushed the restaurant door too, the waiter rapidly re-opened it, I said I had closed it due to the draft, he again mumbled something and walked off, I have to say his customer service was a lot to be desired! After the meal I told the lady we were paying about the quality of the food, although she did apologise, we still ended up paying £45 for a meal and service which was far from satisfactory.

This Hotel which looks nice from the outside is opposite to where my sister lives. I took her there for afternoon tea yesterday as her Xmas gift. The first sign that things were not as I hoped was as we entered the building we went directly into a noisy bar area with a number of workman drinking. I quickly took my sister through to an area marked Reception and was then redirected back to the noisy bar area. We were then shown through to a table in the conservatory. I noticed immediately the lack of atmosphere and tableware not suitable for an afternoon tea. We were quickly dealt with and received our food. It looked so unappetizing and tasted exactly as it looked. The waitress came back a number of times to see if we wanted our free glass of sparkly wine and cake and we began to feel that they were trying to move us on quickly. The wine was not something that we paid for and I wonder if having had so many poor reviews (not something that I had read before we went unfortunately) that they were trying to make up for this. We were also given a chunk of chocolate cake with the wine. Again maybe to make up for the poor quality of the tea? This was my sister's first experience of afternoon tea so I now can't wait to take her somewhere else and show her how it should be done.

I treated my Grandaughter to afternoon Tea at this establishment as a treat and as local to where I live.Upon arrival we were unsure of where to arrive/go, we entered at Reception where greeted by three staff behind the desk, ALL three in a foreign language and ignoring us for at least a minute! Outrageous, upon stating why visiting they gave us directions , left, along corridor, right etc. Not one offered to take us even though me disabled on crutches! We tried to follow but ended up at a bar area, very old and tatty looking with guests within but construction workers drinking beer ring loud and some swearing, not something I wished my Grandaughter at 13 years to witness! I asked the bar attendant for directions, a very miserable looking man, he merely pointed through a door, we ventured within and to an empty, restaurant area again old wooden tables and chairs, luckily a waitress walked from a kitchen door , at last a smile and directed us to the area near the newer conservatory restaurant , albeit some 25yrs old we were asked to sit on old wooden, rickety tatty restaurant chairs and at same tatty table. I was concerned as disabled at the stability of my chair! We were asked what drink we preferred and then served a quite spare cake stand with cut sandwiches and scones upon, jam & clotted cream. The coffee was like Cuban style, very very strong and even with extra cream sachets in palitable. We ate, as hungry, the crustless sandwiches of just limited fillings, one just filled with cucumber, which ordinarily would have been acceptable if accompanied by other well filled sandwich, good cakes etc. But this wasn't the case at all. The scones poorly made where crumbled excessively upon trying to butter or top, making a terrible mess, we moved onto the cakes but soon banished to our leaving plate as were coated and filled with cheap and nasty synthetic creams. The whole experience was an awful one a total waste of money, one could excuse the ambiance, decor and tatty furniture if the afternoon tea was up to standard but we and at least two other couples there as we, were extremely disappointed and near as much left on plates as on the serving stands!!!We would not recommend at all with no hesitation. We will NOT be returning!

After reading recent reviews I was worried what we had let ourselves in for,but my friend and I took our elderly mothers here for afternoon tea today and we were really pleasantly surprised, the staff were really friendly and attentive anything we asked for soon materialised. The afternoon tea looked quite small compared to others we have tried but was followed by a large slice of a very rich chocolate cake,we ended up feeling extremely full up and could not have eaten anything else.My only thought on improving this would be maybe a few more sandwiches and slightly less cake, just to balance the sweet/savoury mix. The tea was served in a lovely bright conservatory which was decorated very festively,we all greatly enjoyed our experience and would definitely return to the hotel.

This is a lovely-looking building which has obviously been refurbished fairly recently. I visited the carvery today as one of a party of 6. There was no 'atmosphere' in the Carvery at all. We had booked, but were unaware that we needed to purchase tickets from the bar prior to using the carvery. The barman had difficulty in explaining the procedure. One of our party is unable to eat anything with oil or fat on or in it and therefore her only choice of vegetables were carrots (nicely cooked) and rather solid peas. We asked if there were any new potatoes but there were none. The food itself was OK apart from the peas, the gravy was very gelatinous!Robert, one of the waiting staff, was helpful and friendly and the carvery server was very pleasant. We saw few members of staff, in fact. A disappointing visit overall.

Make sure you speak to the waiter/waitress before sitting down or you can get missed out for tea/coffee. Not all breakfast items are at the buffet, you need to ask for eggs (other than fried) and they will be cooked to your requirements. They also have black pudding but again you need to ask for it. I just selected from the buffet and sat down, my own fault that I didn't know about coffee and eggs etc. I should have read the information in the room and on the table BEFORE selecting and eating my breakfast. The average rating is on my experience and could have been a lot better had I used a little bit of initiative. To be fair, I had not been awake very long.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea on Saturday 14th with a Groupon voucher. We unfortunately arrived 10 mins late but they were very accommodating and told us it was no problem. The lady offered us a choice of two tables in the conservatory area and we were offered a glass of wine or juice while they prepared the tea. The afternoon tea consisted of sandwiches, cupcakes, scones with jam and cream and tea/coffee. We asked for extra tea and coffee which they happily brought us, unlike other creams teas we have had at other establishments, The best part was they took the cake stand away and brought 2 large slices of carrot cake. We spent 1 45mins there and never felt pressured/rushed.or hassled. The staff were helpful, the hotel itself was very clean and there was plenty of parking... .

We had family visiting and went for afternoon tea as a treat. It was very unsatisfactory. The bread was cheap and so were the fillings, the size of the scones were enormous but very dry. We had to ask for a jam refill since the ramekin was so small. The picture of the tea on the advert is nothing like they serve. The beverages were served in metal pots, not glass as shown on the advert. The cakes were four cup cakes, not small fancies as shown. The room was huge but desolate, there were two other people who came in a little after us and that was it, the room was nothing like the room shown on the advert. Altogether not a good experience. If the do not want Groupon customers they should not advertise for then. I would have been extremely upset if I had paid the full price as I feel it is rather a sham for afternoon tea.

My birthday today, took our little MG Midget out for a run and decided to stop here for their advertised "Sunday Carvery Lunch"Paid for lunch and was given a ticket to give to the chef, we had a "choice" of beef, turkey or gammon and "plentiful" choice of vegetables and sauces. In reality, this is what happened.Turkey, end of beef and dried out gammon covered with tin foil on one plate. My husband asked for turkey, the chef went to carve and it still had blood running all the way through. My husband queried this, but was informed it was ok. He declined the bloody turkey so the chef then used the same knife to carve the beef. The plentiful vegetables consisted of chips, frozen peas, possibly tinned carrots. We decided for purely health reasons to abandon this lunch and take a refund. Absolutely disgusting and the wanted £10.95 for what was a health hazard and not fit for human consumption. I won't even give it a rating

We had four sandwiches each, cucumber, tuna, ham and mustard and egg mayo. The vegetarian also got an extra helping of cheese and tomato. We then had a jam and cream scone, a cup-cake as well as tea and coffee. We then had a glass of bubbly wine and another round of tea and coffee followed by a strawberry gateau. It's the first afternoon tea I've every been on and it was lovely. I guess the only negative I can think of was the cup-cake was shop-bought and not home made but it didn't really matter.

I am really astounded by the negative reviews for this hotel, I'd booked via Groupon for afternoon tea and then read the reviews on here and naturally panicked! I didn't experience anything like the service referred to in these negative reviews. The food was lovely, we had 4 sandwiches each but asked for more (plain ham for my daughter) and got them. And a scone, a cupcake and lovely carrot and walnut cake each. We were offered sparking wine but politely declined. The adults all had a lovely English breakfast tea and the teenagers and children in our party had hot chocolate. The staff were great, I think possibly Eastern European and very efficient but not fussy. The venue was clean and although it wasn't very busy didn't detract from the atmosphere, in my opinion you can't describe somewhere that isn't busy as being "without atmosphere", what do you expect juggling clowns and dancing girls? So for anyone in doubt, don't be, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time

I purchased a groupon voucher for afternoon tea here - before I read the reviews! That said, we were expecting the worse but we really need not have worried. We arrived early, which was not a problem for Robert, our waiter. He showed us to our table. There was another couple there, but apart from that we were on our own, but hardly surprising for the time I had booked - 4.30 on a Wednesday afternoon, so I'm sure most people would have already been and gone. Robert could not have been more helpful. He was very polite and attentive. The tea itself consisted of a selection of sandwiches equivalent to one each, a fairy cake each. This was followed by a scone, clotted cream and jam and then another slice of very nice carrot cake. All of this was accompanied by a choice of tea of coffee. We were also asked if we would like a glass of sparkling wine, or fruit juice (included in the price) - this we declined but happily accepted another pot of English Breakfast Tea. All in all, we spent a very nice hour, and yes, we would go back - it's not frilly or fancy, but well worth the group on voucher price.

A dear friend booked a surprise evening out for my wife and myself to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary. His intention to pull out all the stops with a champagne reception and nice meal. His efforts were ruined by a poor service from the hotel. Despite him booking well in advance and the waiter spending a considerable amount of time taking the orders practically everything on the menu was off. It was a 7:30pm booking and unbelievable, I thought it was part of the surprise and Jeremy Beadle would appear from behind the scenes, then I remembered that he was dead and it was in fact a nightmare for my poor friend and very embarrassing for the waiter as there was no duty manager to complain to.My friend had even gone down to the hotel earlier that day to pay for the welcoming champagne in advance and finalise arrangements, so your service can only be assessed as poor. You could have least informed us at the door that your food stocks were depleted and we could have gone elsewhere. But no the waiter went through the farce of taking orders then reordering 3 times until he admitted he had nothing other than bar meals to offer. I can't even say my chip shop pie, frozen veg and cold potatoes were palatable.HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME OWNERS

Wrong, everyone alse was paying and leaving while we were having starters. The staff repeatedly got things wrong and one even tried to tell us they didn't have the wine my wife had already had. Soup starter was fine, if a little watery, desert very average, looked like a cheap supermarket apple pie. However, at £14.95 the roast was very poor. Meat was cooked OK but portions varied from plate to plate. Veg also varied from plate to plate and had the appearance of leftovers. What we believe were roast potatoes had obviously been cremated several hours before we arrived. I could list numerous other faults and niggles, but suffice to say we wouldn't go back if it was free.

We has soft piano music playing in the background which was really nice. the food and tea was gorgeous I would most certainly recommend afternoon tea here and we are even thinking about trying the sunday roast which i hope also doesnt disappoint.

4 of us went for afternoon tea. Our tea and coffee came quickly but the sandwiches and cake seemed to take ages, so much so we had finished the drinks. Ok they did top the drinks up but we were expecting it all to come out together. The food itself was ok. you get 4 finger sandwiches each, egg mayo, tuna mayo, cucumber with cream cheese and ham. One scone each with jam and cream (or butter) and one cup cake each. Later on we were then give a slice of black forest gateau each. It was all a bit fragmented but still nice non the less. I have to be honest though I've been to other cream tea places which were a little more organised and seemed to offer a better selection on the cake front. Cannot fault the waiters very attentive. Topping our drinks up and making sure everyone was happy. Will probably return so I can compare

Like some other reviewers we too used Groupon vouchers for afternoon tea at Larkfield Priory. We were treated to finger sandwiches on 'plastic bread', meagerly spread with butter and with even less filling. The cupcakes were shop bought as were the scones which must say a lot for the skills of the chef and kitchen staff. To add insult to injury we were then presented with a slice of shop bought Black Forest Gateau which was still frozen in parts! Service was slow and impersonal. When we requested a top up of the tea it felt as if we were inconveniencing the staff.Having enjoyed afternoon teas in other establishments this was by far the poorest quality we have experienced. All in all a bitterly disappointing experience and interesting to note that we are not alone in our views.

As with other reviewers, we had been given a voucher for afternoon tea as a present. We were not expecting much and, as such, were not too disappointed! The tea was very poor quality, sandwich fingers of cucumber, tuna, ham and egg all of which were tiny and the fillings only just identifiable such was their paucity. Shop bought cup cake, dry scone and a bit of frozen black forest gateau (still partly frozen!). No table cloth, paper napkins and no milk to go with the tea. The full price would have been £50, but even at the reduced groupon voucher price, it was barely worth it.We have enjoyed afternoon teas at a variety of lovely places, but this was not one of them. Please, save your money, or just go to an M&S cafe, you will get better food for the same price.

Bought a groupon for afternoon tea and went with my mum on a Tuesday afternoon. We got a small selection of sandwiches which were nice, a scone each with clotted cream and jam (the scone was still warm and was really lovely!) and a pot of tea or coffee each and a cupcake each. The cupcake tasted shop bought and not very nice. As we finished the waiter said we also had a slice of cut cake and we asked to take this away as we were full. It was definitely enough for two people but im glad I didn't pay full price as wasn't worth it and the atmosphere wasn't very nice either. The waiter was very helpful and polite though.

The pastries where a bit soggie, we where offered more sandwiches but the fillings very plain, the rest of cakes and scones where fine (scones where warm). The tea came in a metal teapot bit dissapointed,as it did not look the part but tasted fine (plenty offered). It was not very clear on the table what you are entitled to on the voucher scheme but one the waiters explained, we are having "Priory Afternoon Tea". The service was good, always asking if everything is OK.All in all a very pleasant afternoon.

My partner booked an Afternoon Tea for us here as a treat before Christmas and we arrived to a deserted restaurant with no atmosphere at all. a young man served us , he was very polite, but this not make up for the dissmal tea we recived. The tea was not cheap by any means and we have had a large number of afternoon teas all over and is was by far the worst in value for money ad quality. As many other reviewers have stated, we recived porr quality sanwiches , three thin slices each, one with jst two half slices of cucumber and butter, with stale cheap white bread, one shop brough cup cake and and an awful dry scone. We had no choice of tea and a leaking tea pot. I really dont mind pay top money for a tea, but to be met with a sub standard tea, which i would not even dream of serving at home is totally unexceptable. As we left we were confronted with a man smoking cannabis right outside the front door.I have told numerous people not to bother booking here and am appalled that they can offer this as a tea and even when numerous complains have been made, choose to defend their actions and not take on board what is offered, maybe the manager should visit some other local places and see the above standards being offered for less cost, before being so quick to decide that it is a great service and does not need changing.I will definatly never be returning here and reckoned others to not bother even with a voucher it is still far below par.

I was so dissapointed.myself and my wife went there on a sunday afternoon for tea.it cost just under £50.00 for 2 people.all we had was 4 very small bread finger sandwiches which i have to say would be more at home being dunked in a boiled egg ! A small muffin and 1 small scone with a pot of cream and jam to share...oh and a cup of tea.In total of about £2.00 per head at a stretch. I dont mind paying for quality but come on guys.this is a rip off.

I bought a friend a festive afternoon tea for Christmas and we went today. Surrounding nice. Staff friendly. But standard of food below parr. Scones looked liked they had been bought at local supermarket. Sandwiches were very boring. Cup cakes with jelly sweets on top more suitable for little children than two friends enjoying a treat. We had cheap paper napkins even though the tables set for lunch had fabric ones. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Wouldn't recommend and won't go back. I felt the standard was low because we had bought a group on voucher.

Came here for afternoon tea with a group of friends, the food was fresh and tasty although there could have possibly been more sandwiches provided, only 3 fingers per person and fillings not very adventurous, the down side was there was 6 of us, 4 wanted tea and only 2 small steel tea pots provided and very small cups, equating to not even 2 cups, we had to ask for more. Would have been nice to be checked on abit more frequently. It wasn't very busy so this could have been possible. We came with a voucher offer so this was good value for money, and it was ok for a quick visit but I wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion. Baby change facilities provided here, room big enough to get a pram in if need be but the changing mat was dirty, looks like it hasn't been cleaned, I always put my own on top! It's nice to provide one but I would say don't bother if you don't maintain it, there was also rubbish underneath the mat! How often is this area cleaned properly?

Food wervice incredibly slow. Beer was £8 a pint which for such a slow fiood service was awful. We cancelled after 50 minutes.

Good; lovely fresh food, cosy decor, easy parking, plenty of menu choices. Bad; INCREDIBLY slow service. Arrived at 6.15 for our pre booked table, told it wasn't ready despite the restaurant appearing fairly quiet, we were then seated about twenty minutes later. It was about another 15 minutes before we got to order drinks and about another 20 before they arrived. One of our party ordered a water once our drinks arrived and it was again another lengthy wait. Our jug of water never turned up! We ordered food which again took ages to arrive. It arrived about 8pm which considering we arrived at 6.15pm was very late. When we finished our meal the waitress asked if we were finished, we replied we were but then she went off and never came back to clear our plates. It took ages to receive the bill and nobody came over to take payment so we ended up going up to the bar to pay. Overall some positives but the amount of waiting time let the side down considerably. Not sure we would rebook.

When this first started I went with friends and it was great. Went again on Friday it was a real disappointment. Too much batter, very little fish and both over cooked. Such a shame - sadly won’t be risking it again.
