Great place to eat and drink. Highly recommend it to anyone.

I was really disappointed with the service and attitude of the manager in this establishment. I ordered the truffle beef burger, when it came i noticed it had a curly pubey hair in it. I complained but nothing was done so asked to speak to the manager. The manager was very rude and refused to do anything about it. When i asked if it was his hair as he had curly hair himself he asked me to leave. A very strange way of running a pub.

Great. Portions a little small on the nachos with sauces on the side which was a bit weird but it was tasty

We got to the pub at 8pm ish and went up to the security that were stood outside. They immediately turnt us away as my partner was in joggers (we were not aware there was a dress code). We then left and we thought that was fair enough and tried to get some service on our phones to find somewhere else as we were meant to be seeing family in there and then we saw the security let multiple girls who also didn’t look of age in wearing joggers and didn’t ID them, and then multiple men walked out in tracksuit sets and were also let in. If this rule stands then it should stand for everyone. Was quite unhappy with how quickly we were turnt away as it was our first time going here and then quickly realised that the security were clearly just pick and choosing who they were keeping this rule for.

I came here today with my friend, her mum and her son. Really nice pub, very friendly lady behind the bar and GREAT food. I am usually a bit disappointed by vegan/veggie options in pubs, but the cauliflower fritter ciabatta is ridiculously good! The chips, salads and sauces that came with it were really good too, and very generous portions. My friend and her mum both had salads and they too were really generous, with a great dressing and plenty of the main ingredients - in this case pork belly on one and olives and feta in the Greek salad. Would definitely recommend and I'm considering a trip up to try the Sunday lunches!

Came here for some food Sunday 23rd at about 4.30/5pm Both myself and the other half grew up in the area and decided to visit for nostalgia. The pub has totally changed, the outdoor area is cute and modern, and looks like it would be really great for a night out with friends during the summer months. We ordered food, both of us choosing snacks as starters and a main course, anticipating the snacks to come out first. They didn't, it all came at once but that's no big deal we still happily ate. I had dirty fries and the scampi, other half had nachos and dirty burger. The food was lovely, really flavoursome and well cooked and the house sauce was delicious. The thing that bought it down for us were the two females working on the outside bar. As we don't know the pub as it is now, we were sort of looking for some guidance. They genuinely seemed like they would rather be anywhere else than here, and that us asking about food was the biggest inconvenience to their day. When my partner went back to order it was again with the can't be bothered attitude, which when they're the main faces we see, doesn't look great. We spent almost £60 on a meal here, so feeling like we weren't welcome isn't exactly what we expected. I will say the girl who bought us our food and the guy who collected the plates were both really lovely and a credit to the otherwise unwelcome experience we had had so far. I'm also not one to usually comment on the attire of people, but there was a girl wearing a short black dress doing some sweeping. Not an issue until she had her back to us and bent over and I literally saw everything. Not really what you want to see when eating a meal

Met friends for a bite to eat. Sat outside in large garden area , packed with tables. Menu was adequate, pub grub, snacks and lots of burgers. Shared chilli beef and chorizo nachos which were scrummy. Dirty burgers were rich and chips nice and crispy but sadly couldn’t eat it all because of the nachos to start! Mixed ages until about 9.30pm when lots young people arrived and older age groups started to leave. Nice enough pub, good range of ales and wine, although on the pricey side.

Had Sunday lunch which was probably the worst one I have had in the area. Meat was undercooked and fatty Yorkshire pudding was burnt actually there was nothing nice about it. Dismal interior and uncomfortable chairs Wouldn't go there again

A good West Malling venue for a pub meal

Had lunch with some friends here today. First time of visiting. Great little pub, was quiet ( which I'm sure it's not on a weekend or evening) We chose to sit in one of the side rooms which was cosy and comfortable. Had looked at the menu before we arrived, menu looked a bit small but can honestly say the food was fantastic. Children's portions a good size. The Belly pork salad was absolutely amazing! Huge portion, nicely presented and it was delicious. Our friends enjoyed their dishes. Great service. Good prices. One tip for is us for next time is to ask for a child's portion for desert. The brownie and ice cream was huge.

Had a lovely meal here for my daughter’s 8th birthday. Great atmosphere, loved the outdoor bar and background music. Service was excellent. Not too ‘in your face’ but attentive . Considering there was 17 of us, food and drinks were prompt. Food was fantastic. Will be returning in the future.

Popped into the pub for some late lunch/early dinner. The sun was out, which meant we were unable to find a seat outside. We were approached by Cameron, the manager who had lots of tattoos, we asked to be seated. Cameron explained they were full outside, but walked us inside the pub, (which was empty, so a choice of seats). We ordered the Dirty Chicken burger and the Fish Finger Ciabatta. Good god the food was piping hot, the quality of food was exceptional and the taste of the ingredients blew our taste buds Into a different dimension! Amazing Cameron popped over to talk to us, made sure we were happy with the our choice Of seats, did we require any more drinks and was the food to our satisfaction/expectation? Very pleased with everything. Will most definitely come back. Staff friendly, polite. Atmosphere and environment were both very nice, welcoming and comfortable. Thank you Cameron for looking after us :-)

We (two couples ) Stopped in this pub for one after a lovely meal in the high st to wait for our taxi , we managed to get half way through one drink before being abused by a rowdy group one of who was openly taking cocaine , the door staff seem to think they can police the pub from all standing outside and a landlady who obviously oblivious to what’s going on. I would not recommend this pub later into the evening . No idea what it’s like normal hours as this was the first and last time I’ll set foot in here. - Happy to respond but not to a private email- this was Friday eve so whoever was the loud lady that was insisting we left after this incident leaving the above mentioned group to continue their evening gave the impression she was the person to do this as (again the door staff were all outside) I’m aware of your reviews but this is an irrelevant to my (our) experience. I would hope you would investigate . Your door staff were made aware when we got outside considering that’s where they all were their response “ well we’ll probably catch them in the toilet later “ heavy set guy big beard. as for staying inside and try to report to a staff member I am not going to leave my wife in a hostile environment while I try tell a staff member.as you know this women isn’t a staff member so you’ll also know the incident, in which myself and the other couple defused by leaving with no retaliation to this unsavoury group especially the short guy in a blue flat cap who was openly taking cocaine he was the aggressor . I get you don’t like a negative review but that’s exactly what it is for a good reason. It’s just a true account of the situation. My account is true and accurate, no staff member spoke to either of us nor the the door staff just one lady I described but you said wasn’t a staff member- we are two couples , you say I was aggressive without knowing who “I” am 🤷🏼‍♂️. I’m pleased you have the incident on cctv please do post it. I get you’re unhappy with a negative review but this is an accurate account of what happened , no one came to our aid at all . For your reference I’m in the pink shirt and blazer and at no point was either of us aggressive especially in front of our wives. I fail to see how being verbally abused and potentially physically is innocuous , as for not getting my own way that makes no sense & childish! far from a childish situation, In this occasion your door staff failed customers. Name calling how professional. Good grief, your handling of this is as unprofessional as your staff on the night of the incident. May I suggest a customer service course. The End.

I am a regular at the Five Pointed Star and the reason for this is because it is a cracking pub with fabulous staff, a great regular crowd and is what can only be described as an extended family. However, I have come to write this review for a more specific reason. I sadly lost my wife recently, who was also a loved regular here and the support that I have received from the staff family have been truly incredible. From the very first day to Friday 12th of April when we had her wake here. Every member of the team has been kind, compassionate and gone out of their way to look after me. Not only that but Tom the owner took it upon himself to show what a remarkable community landlord he is. He provided us plenty of space, arranged for an incredible spread for over 100 guests and worked with his team all day to ensure that everything went without a hitch. What landlord does that? A truly remarkable one, clearly. I truly cannot express my gratitude for the kindness and service provided by all and I hope this gives an indication of the type of establishment you may want to visit. A huge thank you to the whole team for everything past, present and to come.

Friendly pub and staff. Only had a portion of chips and a coffee one afternoon but it was pleasant. Very old pub looking out on a very old high street.

We came here for lunch. It's just steps away from the Sunday market. The staff greeted us and got us a seat right away. I had bangers and mesh, it's delicious. I noticed the people seated next to us had the Sunday roast with chicken, it looks good too. There's additional seating outside in a private courtyard.

Instantly greated with a warm welcome, friendliness and super service! The gentleman behind the bar (who I'd hope to say is the landlord?) Was a pure gentleman, made us feel at ease and couldn't be more friendly! Me and a friend visited yesterday, not knowing where we could do with 2 small children and have room for pushchairs. We anticipated this pub thinking we would be looked down on walking in with prams but we had the most wonderful greating and throughout service, this particular was brilliant! Provided us with highchairs, came to us to serve and chatted with us. 1000% will return (without the babies so we can enjoy wine!) Wonderful place, and vert impressed so thank you! :)

The staff here are the MOST hospitable you are ever likely to find in a pub. So friendly and proactive. The drinks and good are very good. There's so much outdoor space, loads of heaters, sports inside and out. A roaring fire in the winter! Love it

Attended the Five Pointed Star with two friends for a meal at 7.30pm on a Monday evening in December. The table had been booked 10days in advance. On arrival we were advised that 6 items were off the menu, with a small menu this left approx 10mains to choose from. When ordering drinks unfortunately 5 of the white wine options were unavailable. We were advised that it was Christmas so they often go out of stock after a weekend. We ordered our mains, one guest requested to substitute mash for chips. The food arrived promptly & was delicious but it came with mash rather than chips requested. This was promptly rectified. We were then offered more drinks at 8.45pm, to which we asked for the pudding menu. We were then advised that the kitchen had closed 15minutes earlier with no pre warning. On making payment they had included the service charge on the bill! On paying the first person was advised that her card had been declined twice. To which it was actually the signal to the machine, as when we went to pay it went through straight away. All in all, food was lovely when we could get it but the service & the choice of food/drink was extremely poor & we most definitely won’t be returning again.

It was a good experience. However, as it was Thursday evening, I didn't get a real atmosphere, as probably it is better weekends

Some two months ago i came to 5PS with my son and ate a Chicken Shwarma , which was absolutely delicious, so i was looking forward to experiencing it again this time. However, on arrival, i was informed that the menu had changed and the Shwarma was no longer available. So, after some deliberation chose the (Homemade) Chicken Balti pie. Needless to say, when it arrived, it was a huge disappoinment - pastry was soggy (obviously cooked in microwave), and the filling was just a mush, whilst playing the spot the chicken game. Advised the waitress of my disappointment, and advised that i get better Chicken pies from LIDL - considering the price of it i was expecting far better.

The roast here is absolutely delicious!! I’ve had it loads of times on busy, and quiet weekends and it’s always top tier. They have food for kids too. There are two open fires (I think) and a lovely warm atmosphere. The people inside are nice and welcoming and all the staff are all nice. There’s an outdoor seating area which is covered by a tent which is perfect. Dogs are also allowed here which is good. There’s parking directly outside the pub, and a massive carpark less than a minute walk away too. Love it here!

Great vibe with a large selection of drinks and food. Sport is on in the evenings and the locals are friendly and accommodating. Perfect for a Friday or Saturday night out.

This place never fails to disappoint. Came here a few weeks back with friends from work, today I was with some other friends. From the friendly and brilliant helpful staff, to the food and atmosphere. It really is the all round place to be. I had the Sunday roast today, was absolutely lovely. If you’re with friends, as a couple or a family with young children, everyone just blends in effortlessly. Would highly recommend and of course, I’ll be back again very soon.

Loved it. From the front, you would never believe this pub. Massive back garden, huge covered area with two large screen TVs . Another covered area plus tons of seating in the uncovered garden area. There is an outside bar and plenty of staff around to look after you. Food is available and prices are fair for the area. It has a nice ambience, lively music playing in the back ground, nice crowd, definitely a place you could bring your kids or your granny. Plenty of younger people there, having a good time but being respectful. Inside the pub is oldy worldy but has a charm. As the day was a pleasant one, most people were enjoying the autumn sunshine. First visit here but will return. Staff were friendly, food came up in good time and was good quality.

Tbh I didn't want to get into the nitty gritty of it all because it felt petty to write it all out when the main reason we left WAS due to RUDE CHEF but going by your response it now comes as no surprise as to why he felt so comfortable being so rude. Your response is totally ignorant to the details but I've got the time this morning so you can have them. 'You were told we needed to pre-order a week before' - Not entirely true. 08/08/23 at 20:30 I requested the booking for 13th 09/08/23 at 11:34 you emailed me, your email states 'we will require a pre order for the food, or at least an indication as to whether you are looking to have roast dinners or other food'. I called, said we were all having roasts. I asked about a vegan option for the roast because there was 1 in our party. Correct, you didn't have the full details but you, at least, got the 'indication' we were all having roasts that you requested 4 days before our booking. My call back was fairly soon after receiving the email because I can see from messages to my family re the pre order items which was on 09/08/23 at 12:13 I say to the vegan 'they apologised & said they're not the best when it comes to vegan options however they can make the falafel burger vegan, they have vegan nuggets, they also said if you wanted a roast they would be pleased to give extra veg & potatoes, gravy is vegan, Yorkshires are not but said if we brought some in they would be happy to cook for us'. 'if you weren’t happy with the vegan options we would have happily made you something else from scratch' - I waited on the call while the member of staff spoke to the kitchen. There certainly was no offer of this! This would have been amazing. 13/08/23 I did call to confirm everything that morning because as with most large bookings, you worry last minute. When I called I was told they didn't receive our pre-order. I asked what they could do & they confirmed x amount of beefs, no chicken, mixed were okay etc. It was here I asked if it would be okay to bring the vegan sausages, 'yes bring them in we will see what we can do'. They WERE very accommodating, there was no issues. SIDENOTE: This was a complete first for me, I would never normally take food to restaurant & ask them to cook it especially without asking beforehand. So yes I agree it was a bit 'ridiculous' however no 'demands' were made & would have totally understood if they said no. We arrive, taken to a very cosy very authentic room, we were all pleased to be there, ordered our drinks. waiting for a few others to join and ordered some starters. I handed the sausages to the waiter, he didn't seem surprised, annoyed or anything. He came back a while after looking nervous, he was extremely apologetic and said that the chef is refusing to cook them and that the chef called the owner who has stood by the chef not cooking them. Our response 'Oh don't worry, it's fine! Meatless roast would be just fine'. I was told on the call in the morning there would be x amount of beefs, by the time we come to order we were told 'sorry there's only 2 beefs left'. No problem, we switched to Fish N Chips - 'sorry we don't have Fish n Chips', (what pub doesn't have a staple like Fish n Chips) but we still opted for other options that were available. We couldn't have been more cooperative, so your comment 'being rude and uncooperative made it very stressful for our staff' is total utter BS! It was your chef who could be heard shouting and swearing (about the fact we ordered a roast with no meat might I add). It was at that point we decided this wasn't the place for us. My original review was fair, I gave 3 stars for service, 1 for atmosphere (it's not everyday you feel so unwelcome that you feel you have to leave) and I didn't rate the food because we didn't try it. For anyone reading this far, you can check all reviews I leave, 80% are positive. The only people who need to feel embarrassed is you and the chef but you won't.

Just popped in for a drink and was a great little pub.

Great service, great quality food especially the house sauce. Small criticism would be the cblt sandwich was requested without tomato and they forgot and too much lettuce and needed more chicken but that's being picky. Would definitely return.

Great little pub. The truffle burger is unbelievable. I never had it before, but I will deffo get it again. The staff is very polite and helpful. The family was very happy with the food. You will 100% enjoy the food here without a doubt.

Rude bar service. no please , no thank you, slap dash abrupt and plain rude. £50 spent on 2 rounds, won’t be going back , sad that the management employ such rude young bar staff. Instead of standing there trying to look glamorous and self important, give them sone training in basic manners.

Saturday evening 20;05.23. Ok if you enjoy being Served by a zombie. A young lady who served me (twice). Looked straight through me, she had no manners whatsoever, no please no thank you, slapped the drinks on the bar with liquid over spilling , nice wet sticky glasses ! I think she was far too over concerned with self beauty importance to be lowered into communicating with customers. I hate this pretentious behaviour, spent £50 on 2 rounds, and WILL NOT be returning. Be warned you plebs out there !! You’ll be treated with contempt !!

Really so expensive for drinks now, preferably on a number of trips there in a week. Pop over to tesco? wine by the glass in the pub ridiculously to high. Get a couple of bottles for less than a third of the price. I love the pub but come on not everybody got the money these day's. This post won't bring the prices down but just saying. I'm a manc.

Having been here for lunch in April we again booked a table having enjoyed our last experience. However today was an entirely different experience the food was disgusting 2 meals returned one having been rewarmed in the microwave one burnt to a crisp the waitress was rude surly and we felt like a nuisance being there this was such a disappointment as we believed we had found a central place to meet up with good food and service after our first visit will not return again or recommend. The manager did apologise and removed the cost of the offending meal from the bill. But still not satisfactory as the whole experience spoiled our enjoyment

Booked for Sunday roast had a selection of chicken, lamb, pork and beef , roast potatoes seasonal veg, Yorkshire pud stuffing and gravy …delicious would come again

Such a nice pub, will recommend to anyone and everyone. Went for dinner and had the most delicious chicken ever. If you go to the Five Pointed Start make sure you order the Chicken Gyro! Its superb and i am sure you wont be disappointed! Ah, and make sure you choose to seat outside. The garden is just amazing, perfect to enjoy the sun!

I traveled to the UK for business and we wanted to sit and watch a game when we ate dinner. I had the steak and it was excellent! It's served with homemade onion rings on top and those may have been the best I've ever had. To top it off they had a special for dessert. It was waffles with biscoff butter, bananas and ice cream. It might be the best dinner I've had in my life.

Went for lunch with work colleagues on a quiet Tuesday. The food was served in a prompt timescale and was both hot and tasty. Tried the Biscoff Burger as it was something I've never seen before and I enjoyed it. All in all a good time was had by us all and would definitely recommend.

Staff were so friendly and accommodating!! Really interactive with the children in our group.. The food was perfect. Quick and no long wait even though everyone from our table of 9 had something different. The food was probably the best thing I have eaten this side of the year... and I can honestly say the best meal I've had since covid lock down!!! We live 2 hours away and was visiting family which is the only downside as we cannot return every day!!! Football was playing on all tellys but was still a quiet atmosphere which was enjoyable! The garden was beautiful with the teepees and Christmas trees!! Looks small from the road do not be fooled!! It has alot of seating available. The prices where completely fair and not expensive at all! 22 pound for a sirloin steak meal! the quality of food is higher then you'd think for the price. I would return if we could!! I urge you to visit!!! You will not regret!!

Arrived in the evening, I ordered truffle burger and my daughter had Lasagne, both were hot, very tasty, well presented. Great price compared to other pubs in the high street. We then both had the waffle and caramel chunk ice cream for pudding. So good! Bar staff were really helpful, attentive and friendly, made sure everything was OK. Thank you.

We came to West Malling for a wedding in a nearby village and were looking for somewhere nice to eat on the Friday night. How pleased we were that we found the five pointed star! It was like the tardis - a small cosy looking pub at the front, but walk through to the garden and you'll find a huge marquee style awning with tables and heaters. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. And the pies were not only tasty, they were proper pies - pastry all round, not a dish with puff pastry on top. It was a lovely atmosphere sitting out to eat and a wonderful way to spend the evening before the wedding. Highly recommend it for portion size, great quality and good value - plus the beer was pretty nice too!

First visit to The Five Pointed Star but I am sure it won't be my last. Very friendly staff offering a great service and supplying excellent food at a reasonable price. Parking not great but it is available within walking distance. GF & V options on the menu.
