I understand that kitchens can be overwhelmed during busy periods but as an establishment within a popular attraction you have had much experience of planning for situations like these. We ordered a margarita pizza and waited for an hour to get it. And this when the restaurant was not even half full. During ordering we were advised that the food has a 30 min wait. After 50 mins when we enquired we were told it’s almost ready. And then we waited for another 15 mins at the counter. We saw people cancelling their orders and walking away due to the awfully long wait. Terrible experience in an otherwise good day at the gardens.

Very disappointing experience, I visited with friends and we each ordered a chicken caesar salad at a cost of £15.50 each. The salad was presented in a throwaway box with a plastic lid, mainly lettuce leaves with a minimal amount of small chicken cubes, 2 anchovies and croutons, very uninspiring, lacking in creativity and extremely overpriced. Why serve meals in throwaway boxes? We sat outside on the terrace, but this is totally unnecessary in today's society where we are all trying to conserve plastic use. We saw all the boxes with rigid plastic lids go straight into a bin with food waste so obviously they are not recycled. All water is served in plastic throwaway cups too, this is really not acceptable - the RHS sustainability strategy highlights elimination of all single use plastic on its website! I welcome your response.

I wanted to buy lunch for myself and my mother. Appalled by the ridiculous prices - over £6.15 for a simple egg mayonnaise sandwich, coffees over £4.00 each. A complete rip off, mean spirited and exploitative of visitors. The gardens are just lovely, but I would recommend bringing your own lunch and a flask with a hot drink.

We visited on the last Sunday during lockdown 2, when takeaway was only allowed. It was a very cold day so we were in need of some hot drinks. It was all very well organised with appropriate precautions in place and a selection of cakes, sandwiches and hot food at lunchtime, plus a children's picnic selection.

I rarely go to any "attraction" without taking my own food and drink - but you know how it is - you need a bag and that's a drag to carry for the 4/5 hours I usually spend viewing. So a couple of visits ago - I tried this cafe - NEVER AGAIN! O.k. it was lunchtime so you expect a queue - but you also expect some ACTION! There were two and a half servers behind the counter - I say a half because one kept disappearing backstage. One seemingly senior guy only did beverages - and in the most time consuming, impervious to pressure manner imaginable. As the queue winds its way in, one passes food in glass fronted cabinets for self service - no matter what one's original choice - it was stone cold by the time you neared the till. I and several others complained - fresh "warm" not hot plates were reluctantly produced with nonchalant shrugs. A baked potato, small salad and large tea cost a small fortune - by the time I had it - I was ready to throw it someone!Just in case you're wondering if my visit was unfortunate - I called passed last week and spied a huge queue yet again.

Visited Sunday lunchtime and it was relatively busy for a dank January day,We had to wait 17 mins to pay for food, as you had to pay the people making and serving the drinks - hence, each customer took 3-5 mins to serve. When we’d paid, there were 3 or 4 free tables to sit, but no chairs, as there were a few family groups. We then had to wait a further 11 mins to find somewhere to sit (outside was wet and cold, so not really suitable) - by which time the food was cold.I asked a member of staff if he would be able to kindly help find a stool to sit on, but he said that wasn’t his job as he just cleaned tables, and walked off.Altogether a very disappointing experience. But the food looked delicious! :)

We live locally and visit Wisley regularly. On a fairly quiet January day we decided to have lunch in the Glasshouse cafe and it was fine. Good well filled sandwiches with crisps and a tempting small trifle. Certainly not a cheap lunch, but we enjoyed our food. It does get very busy at popular times and, as always, coffees take ages, it's not a good arrangement to have to pay for food and cold drinks in the coffee queue. A good option on a quiet day, although metal trays looked worn and rather tatty.

Stopped as we had to give the baby tea and as always we wiped down the highchair the table with antibac wipes and both were absolutely filthy, more than just the previous person sitting there dirt. Found the layout a little odd for food and drinks and when we visited there was very little choice. I did however have the macaroni cheese served in what looked like a large disposable coffee cup but I have to say it was absolutely delicious but I don't think we would visit again

We had lunch at the Glass House Cafe. However there were several issues. Firstly, the selection of kids food was awful. Our daughter is vegetarian and has an allergy to milk, there was almost nothing on the kids’ menu/selection she could have. Secondly the queue for payment and tea/coffee took about 15 mins. As we queued our hot food cooled and our cold food warmed. The ‘express’ tils (for those who don’t want a hot drink) weren’t manned. Don’t. Is it this cafe on a weekend.

The queues were huge but, never mind I thought, I'm sure it will be worth it. NOT. The layout is really bad, you can't see where everything is. I found things I'd much rather have that were hidden behind the hoardes of people. I had a tasteless tomato tart, with even more tasteless potatoes (how is that even possible). There were no forks. Tables were cleared but not cleaned. There weren't enough staff. They should have known it would be a busy day as it was a show day. The gardens are wonderful, I will return and bring my own food. I should have heeded earlier advice to avoid. Please be warned.

Save yourself from the boring selection, the horrendous queues, the dirty tables, bring something edible and instead of ending up back on the A3, M25 at rushhour go into Cobham, Google a pub, book a table and have an evening meal instead. We will never eat here again. I have eaten here twice and this time I can honestly say that the quiche was rubbery than a tennis ball with the most off putting flavour, the olives were as near to off as they could be, mushy and wrinkled, like, let's not go there! RHS Hyde Hall cafe and food arrangements are so much nicer. I have been a member for about five years and this time was even worse than the last experience. I have read scathing reviews in the past, and I am not a fussy eater, but I am a good cook, and your food standard is not great. Meet up with exhibitors from the recent Flower Show and they asked me to leave an honest review for Sue Biggs, Director General. This and the Honest Sausage are a complete rip off!

Visited Wisley today with my daughter and baby grandson. We stopped at the Glasshouse Cafe for a bite to eat and both ended up eating a couple of bland savoury tarts with a few herbs in. I’d assumed it was meant to be a quiche and my daughter said it was a caramelised onion tart. I returned to the counter afterwards to check and she was right, but we’d had not a shred of onions. I told a member of staff who appeared to be a manager and all he said was “okay”. Really not okay and I won’t be visiting again. £15 spent on two tarts which tasted awful!

Self-service cafe where your hot food is on a disposable plate, your knife and fork are disposable and your salad/ couscous/ coleslaw comes in a lidded disposable container. Not cheap - £6.95 for a hot sausage roll but if you don't notice the sign on the shelf and just read the shelf-edge label you probably won't know that it comes with salad/couscous/coleslaw until you reach the till and the cashier tells you this. Then you'll need to hold up the queue at the till, push back into the queue for the hot food, and grab your inclusive side dish. With all this confusion, it's no wonder the queue is outside the door! Food was ok but who-ever 'planned' the customer experience did an awful job!

Separate review applies as well, gardens disappointing in size and scope. We decided to have lunch in the Glasshouse cafe, which was a big let-down too. Absolutely heaving with families and kids, it being Easter holidays, which we could accept, but the overall organisation and layout is sadly lacking. No signage indicating how it works, resulting in large crowds at each food shelf and even longer lines queuing up to pay and get their hot drinks. Nobody seemed aware that if you just had food taken from the shelves, then there was a till to pay for that separately, without joining the long line waiting to get hot drinks and pay. Food itself (jacket potato, filling, salad) was acceptable and edible. And we did at least get a seat and table, which was a result in itself.

What a shame! We visited on a very unsettled day, but that did not deter the crowds. This cafe was close to full and clearly the staff and manager were finding it difficult to manage-the cafe's disorganised approach to basic things like milk supplies for tea and coffee, and an 'open' approach to 'help yourself' food (same as last year?),seems to lend itself to possibilities of petty theft. Kids could grab some food and head for the exit with impunity. By contrast the other cafe was much better managed, although still very full. My view-bring your own picnic!

I was looking forward to eating at RHS Wisley having read that there were many different food outlets. Maybe my high expectations made the reality seem even worse than it was. Despite it being a gloriously hot, sunny day the food vans we'd read about were closed. The Glasshouse Cafe and the Coffee Shop serve exactly the same food. All of which is not labelled with ingredients. I try to eat little gluten and have a nut allergy. I struggled to find any savoury dish without gluten (lots of pies and bread based items) so settled on a packet of crisps and side salad. The salads have no ingredients stated so I asked two members of staff if the one I'd chosen contained nuts. Both replied 'probably not'. Do they not realise that 'probably' is NOT GOOD ENOUGH for people with nut allergies? I'm lucky in that I am only violently sick if I eat nuts but I have been warned not to take chances as it can change to the type of allergy where you go into anaphylactic shock and can die if you don't get medical attention fast. Peanuts being the worse. I took the salad to the till and said I wasn't buying it until someone could tell me definitely what it contained. Someone got a file which listed ingredients of each item sold. This told me that it did contain nuts but they still couldn't tell me what nuts. So useless as often people say this if it's pine nuts or chestnuts which are fine. So a packet of crisps it was for me. I think I'm generous in giving it 2 stars actually.

Lovely to know that the leaves are all grown on site. we did our best to appropriately recycle the containers afterwards but at some of the bin stations te labels had worn off so it was not clear what went where & they were also a bit full

I've eaten lunch here a few times now on visits to Wisley with my children (see separate review).I'm consistently impressed with the size and layout of the cafe, both inside and out; the taste, freshness, quality and portion size of the food, and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Although it's self-service, the food is still hot and fresh. You help yourself to various options off the shelves, and mysterious hands come from the back to top up these fresh items! There are good children's and adults' options - for example when I was last there a week ago, there was freshly-prepared soup, jacket potatoes, a spinach and ricotta bake, and many more wonderful, tasty options which all seem to include extra bits like slaw or salad etc in the price, plus children's options such as a good children's pick and mix lunch box.Compared to some other attractions, such as Kew (though they are by no means the only culprits and I could name more!) who outsource their catering to outside companies, thereby pushing up prices, and therefore decreasing quality and service, Wisley has it spot on with their 'Taste of Wisley' catering. Please do not change this, Wisley, I beg you! It's good food at a proper price for the quality and service. The Glasshouse Cafe is very useful for families, having a little inside play area for toddlers adjacent to it, plenty of inside and outside seating (where ducks may roam around you), and excellent proximity to the glasshouse itself, toilets and a playground. Recommended.

We just wanted a quick drink to refresh ourselves whilst walking around the beautiful gardens. Staff were quick & thorough and able to pick up on demands of numbers through the tills at a busy time of day!

We visited on Sunday and luckily although a fine day, it wasn't very crowded. The choice of snacks was reasonable and the cost was moderate.

On the day we visited for tea and cakes towards the end of our walk around the gardens, there was hardly anything left - a couple of scones and a few unappetising looking cakes. It was probably around 3.30 pm. There was no milk either for our tea and I had to ask somebody serving behind the counter to stock up the jugs.

The café has indoor and outdoor seating and serves very tasty food: we shared a two-seed cake, for example. The coffee and hot chocolate are OK, but I do think they could be served in crockery rather than paper cups and plates, for the prices charged. I do understand the logistics, but I can't help feeling the environment is better served by washing crockery than disposing of paper and plastic. It's a handy place for a quick snack or coffee, but not somewhere you'd necessarily want to linger.

Got a nice table in the shade outside, and a little family of ducklings quacked their way past. Great views of this lovely park.

We had a light snack of a sandwich and coffee, not cheap but very good. It was 1.30 so no que for the till. There was plenty of table and chairs inside or out.

Food expensive for a sandwich and a coffee but it seemed fresh and edible which is not always the case in these places. Staff were very pleasant and hard working, tables and trays clean and clear. If I had a family with me I would take a picnic.

The Glasshouse Café right next to the glasshouse with its lake in front is in a great setting. Plenty of seats inside and on a hot day a great place to sit under an umbrella outside. The tea was good, despite being in a paper cup and the Rock Cakes were excellent - not overpriced as well considering we were a captive audience.

This restaurant is always very busy and a good place to meet. There is always lots of variety to choose from, my only complaint would be, that it is quite expensive, in comparision to other places.

This is for approximately a year ago so things can have improved. Service was alright but slightly overbearing. This is a place where the food should be outstanding, it was not. The paucity of other diners gave testament to this and the four of us said we would not use the restaurant again. Food and drink are the weak link in an otherwise excellent venue.

We came here to watch the rugby but left pretty quickly. Dirty toilets and rude bar staff, when asked why the beer is being served in plastic cups, we were told that only regulars get glass. One way to ensure that I don't become a regular I suppose

The food was absolutely horrible. Only just this side of edible to be honest but we were hungry and the place was packed so didn't want to raise a fuss

Very disappointing visit as used to be a lovely pub. No precautions in place for covid - no details being taken from visitors and just 1 small token bottle of hand sanitiser on the bar. Big groups of very young people (made me feel old in mid-30s!)with no attempt at social distancing. Toilets were dirty and smelly. Won't be going back!

Excellent Sunday lunch, Roast beef and all the trimmings for four. Very well cooked and good value. Staff friendly and welcoming. Will be back soon
