I called today with my elderly mother for a little something to eat, a poached egg on toast and a scone. It was quite busy but we found a table (you need a table number to order food) and I went back up to join the big queue I waited here for a little over 10mins and when I reached the till they told me I couldn’t have the poached egg as they were now serving the dinner menu I took out my phone to look at the time and it was 12:01 honestly I was gob smacked, i asked to speak with a cafe Manager ‘Jackie’ who I explained it was only 1 minute passed and I had been waiting in a long queue to which she abruptly said well it’s 5 passed on my clock. I am disgusted in the lack of common decency shown and due to this the garden centre lost out on custom :(

Went for lunch with my mam and one year old granddaughter. Once reaching the till to order our food and drinks the lady told that we couldn’t eat the little bag of food (for the one year old), as she had just been told we had it. The bag consisted of a babybele, a yoghurt and a cheese straw. There is nothing appropriate on the menu in the form of a meal or snack to order for a one year old. We had purchased a drink for her. Wont be returning in a hurry. Staff should use common sense and realise it’s not one rule for everyone. Fair enough, adults and children not eating their own food but it’s ridiculous for a little one.

We have been to this cafe several times, however we will not be back. All we wanted was a tea and coffee with a nice cake. The slices of cake were so small and tasteless and expensive. We saw plates of food left on tables. The chips looked disgusting, I would say they had been cooked in oil that needed changing. The place was a mess. The few staff were pleasant enough. Won't be back.

Went with friends for lunch but the prices are now so ridiculous, an egg mayonnaise sandwich was £8.50! and they have even stopped putting prices on the cakes which doesn't bode well. We decided to forego lunch and have scones and coffee, not that these are cheap. Scones are now £3.60 and the butter, and jam if you are having a fruit scone, are doled out at the till. 2 small wrapped butter pats and a plastic pocket jam. One of my friends asked for one extra butter and was charged 12p. The scones were OK if a bit overcooked and the cheese scone was a very peculiar shade of orange and did not taste very 'cheesy. This used to be a lovely place to meet and enjoy a lunch or snack but there are so many lovely cafes in the area that serve good food at more reasonable prices that our visits here will now cease.

I have been a loyal customer to Cherry Hill for the last 5 years and it seriously has gone downhill! The garden centre has gotten so quiet every time I am there now and I’m not surprised why. Starting from the staff members to the staff making you feel like the day is done at 2pm. Closing the conservatory in the afternoon is a joke, cleaning it and not allowing people to use the toilet?! My 6 year old needed a wee and the staff member said no to him using the loo inside? That we had to walk to the front of the store? They start cleaning the area when you are in the middle of eating your food as if you need to get out it is ridiculous. There is no other way I can explain this as I don’t know the ladies name but the older staff member with blonde hair is so miserable and moody. Never smiles and is extremely rude. She always looks so hard done by just don’t work there if you hate it so much. Makes customers feel so uncomfortable!! The only reason we go is so my son can play out. Would never recommend to anyone.

Arrived at 2.30 pm with my elderly grandparents it was very hot inside and sunny outside however the conservatory part was lovely and cool we went to sit down and were very abruptly and rudely told we were not allowed to by a young man as he was cleaning up and it was shut!!! I politely said it was very hot inside and too sunny outside and there were lots and lots Infact nearly every table empty could we just use one away from where he was cleaning but he said no !! How absolutely ridiculous is this? What an awful attitude to take towards the elderly and to start cleaning halfway through the day! Never again will I go to such a hostile place!

Staff are literally watching you like a hawk it’s uncomfortable. We bought 3 cakes and 2 coffees on Sunday sat outside. I literally pulled out my 3 year olds drink from home when a lady shouted over you will have to put that away if it was not purchased here. I’m sorry but I’ve just spent over £15, and you’re whining about a drink I’ve brought from home. I’m not going to purchase a drink for no reason when I have one in my bag. She also told someone else off that was sat outside. I hope she sees this review because when she disappeared he had the full thing anyway and a snack.

We had cheese toastie and what pretended to be a coronation chicken panini. The coronation chicken had never visited any curry flavouring recently. The toastie was made with the cheapest cheese and to add insult the cheapest salad ice berg lettuce was used for the salad I noticed most people were having drinks and avoiding the menu food, obviousy the customers had taste which we certainly did not experience. I was astonished at the price of this appallingly food. Surely you could do better Needless to say we will never be back You should be ashamed to call this a cafe It could be good ,have a think wake up to the possibilities don't take customers for granted

We arrived early to allow our two three-year old grandchildren to play in the outdoor play area, prior to purchasing our planned lunch for four. After purchasing two coffees we sat at a table close to the play area to observe the children. We were the only two adults and the only two children present in the whole area. I then heard one of the children say ‘I’m bored now.’ To distract, I called to ask the children if they would like some sweeties. Both happily ran to sit at our table and I passed them each a tiny 12 gram packet of healthy sweets of reconstituted fruit. It was my intention to distract with the fruit sweets for two minutes and then send them back to play and allow us to enjoy our coffees in peace. I was then shocked to hear a female shout across the seating area that if the sweets were not purchased from the premises, then the children couldn’t have them. I turned to see a staff member sweeping out a hut. I said ‘it’s sweeties and they are only three years old!’ Once again, she shouted across to us, if they were not purchased from the premises, they could not have them. I actually said to the children ‘I’m sorry but you have to give them back to Nana, the lady won’t let you have them.’ Despite hearing this, she went on sweeping. Fortunately on this occasion both children complied and handed them back. Perhaps on another day there could have been tantrums. They are only three years old. Whilst I fully respect all businesses wish/state for patrons to only eat food purchased on the premises, to stop three year olds from having sweets is ridiculous and extremely mean. We went on to purchase our lunch for four, including two further coffees but the morning was spoiled. Management clearly need to refresh their staff training in respect of customer service.

Avoid at all costs! After reading previous reviews it appears I am not the first to experience extremely rude staff. Embarrassing me in front of a very busy cafe for feeding my 15 month old daughter a tiny home made sandwich after spending nearly £40 on food and drink from the cafe. I mentioned she has allergies and i was told as they cater for that I can't take my own food in and there are signs all over to this affect. Which there isn't. Refused to refund me so I could leave and feed my daughter outside. I asked if i could breast feed as i didn't purchase the milk from there and i was assured that would be ok...yes thats how pathetic it got. My first time eating in this cafe and definitely my last. Over priced and miserable staff, heard staff being rude to other customers as well and refusing to make toast for someone just because it was 10 minutes after 12. The cafe needs to cater better to families with young children, or maybe employ some staff with some actual care and manners. Left a bad feeling on our day out, shame.

Called for lunch yesterday and managed to get a wooden but outside as it was starting to drizzle. Sandwiches are pre made and wrapped in cling film, bread was dry and I could taste cheap margarine, you would have thought given the price they would at least use butter. The salad on the plate was brown and wilted and the cucumber actually tasted rotten. We shared a portion of chips, dark brown and burnt. 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and a tea and coffee £22 certainly not cheap but deffo not good quality, won't be rushing to return.

We went to this garden centre to find some items that we wanted. Once we’d had a look around the shop we were ready for a cuppa and a snack. As my sister is Caeliac she cannot have wheat, there were some large cakes and a couple were suitable for her. It was stale but she said that’s the problem with baking gluten free cakes, they go stale very quickly. They need to make smaller cutting cakes so that they stay fresh. I didn’t have a piece of cake as I thought they looked rather dry. This place isn’t cheap but the staff were excellent and if they improve the cakes and have a smaller selection it will be much better.

We visited one afternoon after Christmas for a family catch up - 3 coffees each and 3 hours later! plus slices of cake! But we did not feel at all rushed by staff, even as they were getting ready to close! My parents like it here as lots of comfy couches/arm chairs and cosy little nooks to sit in - although you do need to be in the main area near the radiators as the conservatory type extension in the back is freezing in winter!! People were sat through there with their coats on! although there was plenty of space in main cafe area.We think the cafe excellent value compared to other nearby garden centres and the portions of cake etc are also large and scones are ginormous. Service is fast and friendly, although it did take 5 minutes for the staff to check the ingredients of one of the cakes, it was appreciated that they went to the effort due to my allergies. The toilets are warm, very spacious, clean and modern. This was our very first time at cherry hill cafe and we loved it, yes it was a bit chaotic but hey it’s Christmas where isn’t it chaotic this time of year, we will definitely be coming back because it gets you into the Christmas spirit with it’s fantastic Christmas display and there’s so much to see from decorations to lights to ornaments everything you can shake a stick at beautiful displays that really put you in the Christmas mood but most of all it fills your mind with great ideas, I’ve seen the reviews on here and think these people need to get a grip and ignore the queues and delays to the cafe because isn’t that expected when your seriously busy at Christmas, for example the metro centre is huge but at Christmas time there car park is massive but can you find a place no you can’t can you find a place for lunch no you can’t because they are all full so come people if your all going to converge on cherry hill cafe all at once then expect no car park spaces and cafe delays see you next year cherry hill and keep up the work

Pleasant surroundings although very cold as there is access to the attractive outdoor play area directly from the cafe area and the door was almost constantly open. Food ingredients seemed to be good quality but were served up rather greasy. Quite expensive so I would have expected better, and better service. My coffee was cold by the time the food arrived and, when I asked our server if the coffee could have a heat up he seemed baffled, but after clarifying he took it away and microwaved it! They stated the wait would be 30minutes for food but it was actually much quicker than this. However, when our food came out, it was cold. The cheese hadn’t melted as it was described because of this ‘a chicken melt’ and the panini wasn’t toasted. If it was cheap I wouldn’t mind as much but when it’s £6.25, I’d expect far better. On the way out with friends there was no friendly goodbye like many other cafes do to all their customers but instead a glare of the Young girl that served us , appears the management speak to their staff like children to like we heard several times while sat in there. Won’t be returning. Wouldn’t recommend. Avoid unless you want to be spoken to like a naughty child.

Cold food, burnt chips and the pastry on the quiche was like leather. The cafe was far too hot they need air con. Asked if they could clean the dirty table so we could use it ..... the guy comes and takes away the dirty plates leaving other used pots/rubbish so I had to ask him again, he took the rubbish and left a dirty table so I had to ask again ... he wiped the table and covered the seats with the crumbs SUCH ENTHUSIASM! Certainly would not recommend or return.

I had visited here before but just for coffee and was determined to go back. I am so glad that I did. my friend is a vegetarian and ordered the Mediterranean Quiche and she loved it. Hubby the Shepherds Pie and myself the Quiche Lorraine. The meals were very filling and cooked beautifully. No room for gorgeous cake, however next time and it will be difficult to choose. The scones were enormous. Yes the tables were not being cleared as quickly as they should have been and they are renovating, however this did not dampen our enjoyment. We will certainly be making this a regular visit.

Often call in for a bite to eat and a coffee. Whilst the prices may be a little more expensive than the competition the portions are much larger and the staff friendly, especially the lovely young man who is the cafe manager.

Staff friendly, I used to work in a cafe and its a hard job would never do that again. Toilets not so good but think they are doing new ones.

Due to not being able to reply to the manager, this is the reply. After writing a recent review based on the attitude of the manager and how he approached us in an unacceptable manner over giving the dog a bit of cheese, BY HAND in the cafe. To which we said if he approached us in a polite manner it would not have bothered us. To then get a reply accussing of feeding the dog off their plates, which was not mentioned at the time of the complaint. Absolutely disgusting that we are accused of feeding the dog from the cutlery and crockery. We do not feed the dog off our own, never mind anyone elses! When you approached us their was no mention of this accusation. You should know your facts before approaching a paying customer and degrading them in person and on a honest review. If you have CCTV in your cafe check it please, as we dont stand for this type of accusation.

Came last week for lunch all 3 of us had Corned beef stew which was absolutely delicious and very hot decided to return this week ordered 2 buns 1 with chicken/bacon and BBQ sauce complete with salad 1 with pork and apple served with chips, They were both huge so ate chicken bun, which was warm, between us and brought other bun home with us. Staff are all very friendly and efficient particularly the Manager Jason who was making sure tables were quickly cleaned as well as orders processed as soon as possible. The cafe and surrounding area are in the process of renovation so fewer tables available. He also provided us with take out container for our food, so impressed with everything bought a take out scone too, Will be back again soon good value for money,

Met a friend here today after not visiting the cafe for a while. The cafe has been refurbished but still the toilets remain outside. Seating area has not been very well thought out either. Now the food ... £7.25 for a sandwich/toastie, £6.25 jacket potato .... £7.25 for quiche the list goes on. Obviously the prices being charged are paying for the renovations. This is not a high end cafe but they are charging high end prices for what I witnessed was meagre portions of unappetising looking food. The service is so slow and they ask you to use both tills err hello you only had one till on. The tables are left full of dirty pots and staff standing around on mobile phones. I ordered a coffee and asked for it to be extra hot but this wasn't done and the coffee was like warm and the cakes are so dense you could use them to block your sink. Management here need to read through the multiple negative reviews on here and sort out the problems which are repeatedly mentioned. I for one will not return here I'd rather spend my money on decent food and drink and sit at a table not waiting for to be cleared.

I am currently sitting in this establishment having difficulty believing what I see. It is busy and popular and I cannot understand how so many people can be happy to waste so much of their time for so little benefit. Customer service is absolutely appalling! Queue is huge, service is INCREDIBLY SLOW, we were a group of seven and very dissatisfied. Some have been here before, it is always like this. Not enough staff, poor operating systems. Only one person collecting from tables. Only one person washing up. Management in a meeting, which I suppose is better than being on Facebook - which, I'm told, is another frequent option. NOT ENOUGH STAFF!!!! Only come here if you don't mind wasting time or rigor mortis setting in!

So we visited here today, stood in the queue for 15mins finally ordered at 13.05pm the food arrived at 13.55pm. After just over 40mins of waiting I asked what appeared to be the lady in charge (who was dealing with someone else who had been waiting 45mins) only to be met with rudeness and a complete lack of care that customers had been waiting for so long.

Very busy during midweek lunchtime. Two queues but had fairly longish wait to get served. The food itself arrived very quickly and was delicious. Beautiful views from the dining area. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. This place has changed from a garden centre with a cafe to a cafe with an attached retail centre.

We popped in last Saturday for a quick lunch, the place was heaving and there was a long queue into the cafe. There are 2 separate tills, one on the left and one on the right but most people queued to the till on the left and no one in the cafe advised people to use both tills, we used the right one and were served fairly quickly. I ordered a panini and my wife ordered the spicy parsnip soup. The panini turned up after 5-10 minutes whereas the soup remained absent. We asked after 20 minutes and were told it was coming but still nothing. Then after a further 10 minutes we were told there was a problem with the soup so we changed our order to pea & ham soup which should have arrived quickly. We then had to ask again about the soup 10 minutes later before it eventually arrived. The soup was lovely but should not have taken 40 minutes to be served.

My Mam visited this Cafe on 25/10/18 this is her review of the Cafe. Felt it was to post on my page.To Warn other people not to visit this place.I visited the cafe this morning with my family as a birthday treat, however it turned out to be a nightmare, first of all my niece was served with her breakfast while the rest of us were left waiting when we enquired as to where our breakfasts where we were told it was our fault for ordering 10 mins apart which was a lie, there was a 3min gap from the first and the last order, then we spoken to by the so called manager Jason who obviously never received any customer service training, when we mentioned his attitude he said it was us giving him the attitude so he was going to give it back, we asked for a refund and left, disgusting attitude and service, won't be going back again!

Visit this cafe once or twice a month usually for lunch food is always delicious and varied. Today tasty bacon and sausage bun followed by toffee apple cake, now very full. Staff are always very polite and helpful despite them often being put under pressure when very busy. Call in sometime I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

The manager in the cafe Jason has the worst attitude I've ever seen in a customer service role. Shouting abuse at us just because we asked how long our breakfasts were going to be. Told him I didn't like his attitude his response was if I get attitude I'm going to give it back. Firstly I wasn't giving him attitude I just won't be called a liar when I had proof. Mine come first then 15 mins later my mams and auntys still hadn't come so we asked and got called a liar infront of everyone. We had the receipts to prove we ordered together a minute apart but this didn't mean anything to the manager. I will be telling everyone to avoid this place just because of his attitude. I'm disgusted I've been spoke to in this manner. I really hope Jason sees this review and tries to justify himself. I will not be letting this go until he has been talked to about his attitude. Thank you for ruining my auntys 50th birthday treat!

I have visited here twice with a friend. The self service queue was slow moving both times. Apparently they open up the other side when busy but they didn’t when we were there. The coffee and scones were both good and it was lovely to sit in the conservatory.

Called in yesterday to meet a friend over a cuppa and scone. Busy little cafe, you can get quiches and baked potatoes etc but we opted for cheese scone and tea. Very generous sized scone, staff warmed it when requested and butter plentiful. Tea pot supplied me with a cup and a top up, decent brew, cost us about £8 for the two of us, plenty of tables either inside or on patio, pleasant staff

First time at this garden centre & will definitely return. A visit here is as much about the homeware department & cafe rather than just the plants & shrubs. Found it a little more pricey than other local centres but a stop-off in the cafe is a must. Staff (in all departments) were very helpful, speedy and knowledgeable. Difficult to choose which cake or scone to have. Just setting up for Christmas so look forward to seeing the garden centre when that area us up and running.

One overburdened person serving and operating till. Two people chatting by the coffee machine. When asked (from a long queue) were they serving, they said no amd indicated to the girl on the till - (too much demarcation and not enough service !). Meals were nice enough and generous however.

We have been using this cafe for as long as it has been opened, but gradually the standards have been slippping. If you want a drink and a wedge of cake I suppose it is ok, but today our 'meal ' was dreadful. Cappucino lukewarm, chips looked as if they had been pre-cooked early morning and left out, very strange colour and cold, panini cold, hot dog all dry bun and very little 'dog' and cold. Very poor value for £17

Me and my friend visited the Dickens Inn pub for lunch. We are students at Teeside University and regularly visited the Dickens. We were greeted at the bar by a man called Mario that seemed to have a nice attitude and welcoming but that very quickly turned. We ordered our food at 12:20. I ordered a ham and cheese panini and my friend ordered a chicken wrap. As we are student we only get 1 hour dinner break but usually we have more than enough time to eat. We waited patiently till 12:45 I then went to the bar and asked where the food was. The staff member Mario then rushed off and came out and shouted from a far distance “2 secs!” I then went back outside to my friend. It then got to 12:55 and we decided there wasn’t going to be enough time to eat and get to my next lecture which was at 1300pm. We then went to the bar and requested a refund as food shouldn’t take this long as it is a pub on campus I would’ve hoped food would be delivered in a more timely manner. The staff member (Mario) shouted from a distance again shouting “Oi, girls” we looked round in shock we had just been called out so rudely as he had the food in his hands but by this time it was too late, we explained to him we didn’t have time to eat it, he then turned around and walked back into the kitchen with our food. Mario then started slamming objects down shouting to his colleague that we wanted a refund in anger which made me and my friend quite frightened and uncomfortable when he did this. He then started waving his arms in the air making us feel scared. His colleague then came round the bar and gave me and my friend a refund in cash however I paid on card but didn’t get given the option for a refund via card. A scary and belittling experience for two young students.
