What a dreadful place. I would never eat here again. We ordered 2 portions of fish and chips with mushy peas and 2 portions of lasagne. The fish and chips arrived first without the peas.When I asked where the peas were they said " Oh we haven't got any but you can have baked beans" The fish batter was nearly black and the chips were even worse. The lasagne arrived 20 minutes after the fish and chips and was just about bearable. We went in the next night for a drink as we were staying in the hotel next door. There were kids running around completely out of control, climbing over furniture spilling drinks over tables and worse Further more there was a chap vaping whilst others were eating. The tables were that dirty I had to fetch someone to clean one before we could even sit down. The only reason it got two stars is because the price of the drinks are reasonable. I would warn everyone to avoid at all costs.

Cozy tent, with life music and a nice space, although the chairs could use replacing, sitting was a crime, everything was possible, sofas, high tables with chairs, sitting areas and tables with (bad) chairs, but very noisy by Dutch standards. You could also play darts (of course). Only drank during the day.

Fawlty Towers at best Reception fine, polite and efficient, Spa staff polite and efficient…. That’s where it ends unfortunately. The staff in the Poste House have not one clue regarding customer service, less than amateurs is all I can say. The only one who seemed to know what happens in these places was the lad taking table orders, as for the rest…. Stick to burger vans if you’re lucky.

Went for a works dinner on a Friday. It was empty, no one else in the whole place. Half of the menu was unavailable for selection, including the parmo.... Come on. Went for the chicken sizzler, it was just ok. I would say not worth the £15 price tag. The lit up darts board was good though! Plenty of parking too. The venue looks smart and the wine walls are impressive but our experience was a disappointment.

Me and a work mate have stayed here all week, the food in this place has been amazing. I can't fault it and the service from the staff has been amazing.

Mediocre food. My veg was barely cooked. Meat so so. We were 3 groups ordered together. The food came 10 mins apart. Go figure.

Met up with a relative who was staying at the adjoining hotel early on a Friday evening for a couple of pints and a meal. Had fish and chips. Good portions and very tasty. Service was speedy and very good. Good choice of beer and the IPA was very refreshing. Intended to have a bit of a catch up but unfortunately, this was cut short due to the intrusive loud music being played by the DJ. There was hardly anyone in the pub but music so loud we couldn't hear each other at all. Such a shame.

My first time away from home for a Christmas dinner I was very sceptical, because I do like my lunch at home, but from start to finish service was impeccable me and my wife are a bit of a foodie, and the food quality was excellent could not fault, anything at all I will be there every year from now on I have it in the bar area a few times before this and the food is excellent don’t believe all the reviews A pat on the back to all the staff for Christmas Day

Great place for a night out with friends.

ABBA, NIGHT ABBA was ok but so loud, it was unbearable, when the food was served the music was still to loud that I could not hear the person next to me, bass was on max. Food small portion of very poor quality. Chicken dry, parsnips under cooked, carrots good, sprouts not bad, Yorkshire flat and tastless. A few roast potatoes not bad. No mash, don't know if they had run out. My wife has an intolerance to black pepper, we called well in advance, and we're told that they would not use BP that night. When the food arrive, they had just removed pigs in blankets, stuffing and roast potatoes. No alternative given. We will not go back, it was terrible.

Really impressed, as a vegetarian, I had plenty of options to choose from, you can build your own meal and add your own vegetarian I option, and they have wine clearly marked on the menus. Food was good. Service was great, thanks to Lisa, the deputy manager, who was very friendly, helpful, and offered to get our drinks for us too. Great atmosphere cos I love sport and they have sport screens everywhere.

Very, very rarely eat at anywhere like this as I don’t trust the staff to foster the processes in place to stop cross contamination. So it was 17:30 and I decided to order a vegan option- rice noodles, tofu and black bean sauce. Staff were polite and went into the kitchen to ask if it was definitely SFV. Asked for a portion of ‘hand cut Chips’. Paid my money and took table 6 as I was only waiting to collect food to go back to room. At approx 6:14 (45 min wait) a rude male, member of staff said ‘you can’t have the noodles as we’ve none left’ he went on to ask if I wanted the chips and asked if I wanted anything else, then told me the steak was good. I explained I was a vegan and was laughed at. No refund was offered upon bringing this to the wonderful staff member at the till. The female staff member refunded me, save for the chips. I asked if I could have 2 portions on account of waiting 45 mins. She said yes and sent someone to inform kitchen. Within a matter of 3 minutes, the same male staff member walked up to me with a takeaway container, the white lid, literally covered in greasy finger marks. I asked if this was two portions of chips, he said yes. I asked because there was no weight to the product. Upon opening it, I spilt whatever grease it was, all over my jeans. The box contained 13 chips. 13! They were cold, they were burned and they were greasy and soggy. This is similar to cooking chips in oil that’s not hot enough and they just boil in oil. Probably my fault as I don’t usually put cheap product or any oil into my body, thank goodness the manager walked by- she took them from me and asked me what was wrong! No words were needed when she saw inside. She took them into the kitchen and I just walked off. I paid £15 for noodles and chips. I got a £10 refund and so paid £5 for nothing. I wouldn’t allow my dog to eat from this kitchen. I know this review is scathing and that’s because I don’t review anywhere as there’s only a very small circle of establishments I trust. Two are fully plant based and the other serves meat, but has amazing procedures to combat cross contamination. I am glad I did not put any of the fatty, greasy, limp, soggy and burned ‘hand cut’ chips into my mouth.

Good Food and Beer. Good Prices

We stayed at the Sporting Lodge and used the pub for a night of drinking and also for breakfast the next morning. Bar staff were great, very friendly and chatty. The bar manager runs a great team and I would recommend here if you stay at the Sporting Lodge.

Ordered a pulled pork burger. Had to remind staff twice about my order. After 1hr and 10 mins it arrived and im sorry it did. Chips were burnt and the burger was so burnt on the outside that i coldnt cut into it. The inside had to be scraped out and it was just warm. Definately a frozen burger that had been microwaved. Disgusting. When i complained to the waitress she simply laughed and walked away.

Awful experience from start to finish. Would never eat here again. Girl on the bar was clueless. Food came we ordered ribs. Absolutely terrible. Ribs were freezing cold, tasted sour! Sweet potato fries were hard & also cold. Corn on the cob looked like it was a week old. Couldn't bite it it was so hard. I'd be ashamed putting that Food in front of anybody! Made the waitress aware she started almost laughing. Then said she will mention it to the chef. She then went off and never returned. Would highly advise to not eat here! Disgusting

Very loud and very busy. The barmaid/waitress helped us tremendously with my wifes gluten free needs. Our food arrived hot and was delicious. I did ask one of the other waitresses if I could have another drink and rather disappointingly was told I'd have to go to the bar as it was too busy. I didn't bother as I wanted to keep eating hot food and not queue for 10 minutes. That lost the 5th star. If I'm eating with table service, I like to drink with it too.

Me and my partner went to the post house today 3-5 -2023 for a few drinks bar staff where so miserable and looked very miserable and unhappy when stood at the bar they made us feel uncomfortable and not very opening and welcome to our approach when trying to conversate with them . Me and my partner ended up going elsewhere for a more friendly atmosphere We won't be going back to this establishment

The restaurant was cold and was playing music really loudly. Not many customers in at the time. The steak was decent but no garnish. Likewise the starter of garlic bread was 2 small squares. Stick toffee pudding was average. For the price paid it was average at best. Staff were friendly and helpful but it was overall underwhelming.

What a great place! Character of the restaurant is unique. Gallery of wines - may not be real bottles but the look is definitely something different. The food was brilliant. Had my first Parmo yesterday and my first Parmo hot shot tonight. Excellent! And real home cooked chips! And the special dessert - Lime Cheesecake with Rum - sublime. (pun intended) The real stars of the place are the staff. Lisa, bar manager was very funny and sooo much banter. Neive, one of the waitresses, was so funny and pleasant. And thats just the two who I remember the names of. Everyone was super helpful. It makes a world of difference being made to feel welcome. I will be staying at the Sporting Lodge again and spending time in the Old Poste House!

Had 4 meals here. 2 breakfasts, 1 fish n chips and then 1 burger meal. Food was OK, many choices for breakfast. Service was mediocre on an evening and worse at breakfast, with staff not explaining buffet and not asking if we wanted tea or coffee until we had eaten. A smile would have helped too. Atmosphere, none at breakfast, no interaction from staff. Evenings were a little bit too loud for our liking. Please don't read this and think it's bad. It's not. Just could be much better.

I went for Sunday carvery with my family. The value for money was excellent. Two courses for £9.95. The quality of the food was very good and portion size huge! We will definitely be back.

A family of nine of us arrived Christmas day for lunch the party included my Son In Law who had only been discharged from hospital three day previously after having major surgery for cancer we did attempt to cancel 6 weeks before when he was diagnosed with this awful disease and it was refused we arrived on time the starter was awful the main meal dreadful and we sat 45 minutes waiting for dessert before we had to ask for it be boxed up to take home because the Gentleman who was ill needed to go home.We booked in 2021 no problems but it will be our last booking The Family booking was arranged because it was a chance to celebrate Christmas lunch as a family I am 82 years of age the whole experience was a disaster and it is our last visit unfortunately we attended regularly for Sunday lunch it as affected that also Customer Service on reception was disgusting when we tried explain the reason to cancel awful experience from day of booking

Busy little spot. Good for watching football. Attached to a hotel so does get regular contractors staying. Not table service but one of the best steaks with peppercorn sauce around. Staff are great.

Excellent quality food at reasonable prices. We opted for cajun chicken sizzler and a parmo. Both arrived within 20 minutes, fresh/piping hot with separate side plates for wraps, salsa etc. and home-made chips. Very well presented and tasty.

This hotel is situated close to A19, and ideally situated for visiting either Middlesbrough or Stockton, there are several large car parks, parking should never be an issue. Facilities wise there is a bar and restaurant, and an extensive gym, pool and spa, the gym is modern with a recently fitted TRX station. The rooms may be in need of a refurb, but they are spacious and clean. There was always scorching water available and shower over bath was powerful. We stayed for a fortnight without any issue, the staff are friendly and helpful and made us soo welcome. Hotel is also dog friendly.

Staying next door in hotel, pub has a good selection of food, with specials available each night (very nice) Prices are fair and food is good quality. The staff in the bar are all very friendly and hardworking the asst manager Lisa creates a nice atmosphere, plenty of seating and screens for sporting events, made our work stay much better.

We stayed the night at the hotel the pub is attached to. The food was good value for money and well cooked. The place could do with a refurbishment as it looks a little old and tired. One of the leather sofas was broken. The staff were great really friendly.

Went for a wedding of a friend it was very nice the setting was good food was really nice drink was a bit expensive we stayed in the hotel the room was comfortable the breakfast was very good it was included in the price there was no rush as was served 7 till 11

Our order was wrong even though we went through the list and asked the barmaid to read out what she had put in to double check it and we were supposed to have a spaghetti bolognese brought out for my daughter and they brought lasagne instead so everyone else on our table got their food and she had to wait for hers. Our food was lovely but the portions could of had a bit extra, on mine I was supposed to have 'herby' mash.. there were no herbs in sight. When my mother came previously she was told by staff if children want to play in the "SMALL" play area then she would have to sit near the area and keep an eye on them. When we came this time there was loads of children in the play area and not one parent to be seen... hmm... The fire alarms kept going off all the time aswell just to be told "they're faulty".. I suggest you get that sorted ASAP before a real fire happens and noone takes any notice!

Great place with iutdoors sitting and spacious inside. Good prices and selection of food. Burger was huge, but I didn't like the meat flavour. Not sure why... texture wasn't too good I think. But all the rest was good.

Terrible! "Food Hygiene Rating of 2/5 - June 2022" Starter was more salt than Potato Skin. Carvery was awful. Beef tasted like it was off, and veg was all overcooked, with much of it not having been refilled once empty. When I asked if there was more gravy they just poured a new jog in the container on top of the dregs of the old gravy that had bits of veg and a sausage floating in the bottom. Certainly regret coming here when there are many places nearby that do far better Carverys! They did refund half our food cost, and admitted the meat was "a bad joint", but I felt they did so very begrudgingly.

Not a bad place food is good. Do have some good deals on food and drink. Staff are friendly all but the so called manager (Leanne) big bum big breast big lips loves her self. Shame the clothes she wears (size 6) don't fit her. Her attitude against customers is a disgrace. Dirty looks. Customer skills 0... also allowing toddlers into a busy kitchen. Stayed a few times

We booked a table for our 10th anniversary as we actually met there. There was no booking and the restaurant is not there (or was not open) we were offered a table in a cafeteria type area which was not what we wanted so we left and had our meal elsewhere which was lovely.

Really helpful staff especially Lisa nothing was to much for her. The food is of a reasonable standard, dependant on which chef is working. I recommend the peri peri chicken burger it is absolutely amazing. Also the sticky toffee Sundae is delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit. My only negative is when busy you can wait a while for your food and a definite lack of vegetables, but everything else is A OK. 😀

They serve one beer. Namely John Smiths Smooth. Its cheap and nasty and has really put itself bottom of the beer connoisseur's choice. Probably since it was taken over by Fosters! Anyway. Back to the pub. Bad selection of ale with one draught option as mentioned above. Could be so much better.

Very nice selection of pub grub at modest prices. The local delicacy (chicken parmo) is well regarded and matches the hype! Very nice burger you’d pay a lot more for at a fancy smokehouse. All the food is a credit to the chef & team. Decent spread of standard fayre beer and drinks, plenty of entertainment with live TV / football etc. It’s annexed to the Sporting Lodge Hotel and ideal for on-site meals if you’re a guest. Only negative is some ambiguous signage for the specials board. Lots of advertising but unclear as to when it was in place, also the menu online didn’t match the actual one. No big deal though as the food was excellent value for money.

Just ordered fish and chips, nothing quite as expected . The chips were hidden under the fish as they were burnt, the tatare sauce was off....no apology, no offer to replace or refund 🤔 A very disappointing experience.

Staff were really nice and helpful and it's a nice bar and restaurant. I'd love to give a better rating but I can't as the food was really poor. Me and my wife both got fish n chips. The fish was cremated and the chip were also burnt. The fish was so badly burnt I don't understand how they let it leave the kitchen then serve it. Could be a one off but u have to leave a review on our experience.

Again service from bar staff extremely slow, lack of attention to customers at bar or tables needing cleaning yet you look in the top corner nearer glass cleaner and there is always average of 5/6 staff stood/sat chatting. It is common knowledge that the staff are lovely just lazy or have no idea what they ate doing. It is the lack of attention by staff to customers that let you down and as a manager I would be mortified that was the standard of my staff

Was ok.... Although out of town has more of a town centre feel to it. Had a carbonara which tasted fine, if a little too salty, but gave me an "upset stomach" the next morning, so not sure on the quality or hygiene. If you're just out for the booze, this is probably the place for you though.

Noce friendly lady on the bar. We called in for Coffee and Cake. Little disappointed with the Coffee it was tasteless and more like a glass of hot water. My colleague had a latte which again was hot but tasteless and tiny milk. The cake tasted cold like it was still frozen. There were only 2 other people in here, yet we waited 20 minutes for our cake. It tasted stale. The tables were sticky and furniture scuffed. Maybe give this place one more chance as it was cosy

Went for a Christmas do in the main hall. The event was good, canny entertainment, friendly staff. I thought the food was very good. Main bar area albeit didn't see it much seemed nicely decorated and comfortable. Decent crowd in.
