Noisy, busy. Not for my age group - ancient!

Julie and her team went over and above to make sure that our wedding celebration was just what the bride wanted. The venue was perfect for a summer wedding reception with outside space for music and dancing. The bride and groom had a wonderful time. Thank you all.

We had a party on Saturday 15 June in Dickens 2 and the team of staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and the night went perfectly. The garden setting was lovely. Special thanks to Mario and Jack

All I'm going to say is watch what your being charged . You have been warned . It seems they pluck the prices fron thin air , charge you for 6 drinks when you've had two .

Toilets are nasty and smelt of green

After being let down by a local venue the DAY BEFORE our friends hen do The Dickens Inn came to the rescue! After contacting them on Friday night, they managed to fit 25 of us in for bottomless brunch on the Saturday. They blocked off a large section of Dickens2 for our exclusive use from 4pm to allow time for decor of the space, with bottomless brunch starting at 6pm. The staff were absolutely amazing, the drinks kept on flowing and the atmosphere was incredible! The cocktails kept on coming and prosecco was provided on all of our tables so that we could help ourselves. At the end of brunch we were told we could stay and have use of the area for the rest of the night and were given free reign of music choices and had a private dancefloor that was definitely put to use! We were so well looked after, and as the only one in the party on the non-alcoholic brunch option, the bar staff ensured that they personally handed my drinks to me to make sure there were no accidental mix ups. We all had the most amazing night and it was a blessing in disguise that we had to change plans at such last minute! We cannot thank your incredible staff enough for helping to make last night happen for our bride to be! We can't wait to return and will not hesitate to recommend The Dickens to anyone looking to put on an event! 🩷 Xx

VERY VERY RUDE Owner/leader named Julie.Surprised is still open! If there was MINUS 5STAR I would have used that. One would expect the owner of to be polite and humble and listem to customer queeries. Not good for Middlesbrough at all

Had a late valentines with my partner last night 16th Feb in one of the decorated pods. Wow , what can I say , I’ve done bottomless here many of times and everytime they are even better than the last. The women who served us were gorgeous the most friendly helpful staff, coming to check often everything was good and we were topped with drinks! Came and poured us a glass of Prosecco each, bringing blankets for my partner coz he was cold! The drinks were amazing , pods beautifully decorated, food was delicious, and the best staff! Recommend this place to anyone with 5* for everything we experienced , such a memorable night 💜

We went there for a brunch for my wife's birthday with a big group of friends and it was absolutely fantastic the service we had was sublime so wanna say a huge thank you to jenny who treated us really well and gave us brilliant service if anyone is going there for a brunch and jenny is the one serving you ya won't have any complaints at all

Came for the bottomless brunch. Although the staff were friendly. I think possibly having two reasonably big groups having the brunch at the same time stretched the staff who still had the rest of the bar to deal with as well. Food selection wasn't brilliant and there wasn't a massive choice of drinks. This was the first time I had been to a bottomless brunch and will be the last if they are like this one. Myself and my husband recently had our wedding reception at the dickens and we could not be happier with the service we received. We booked the gold room as it held the amount of people we wanted to attend and it had a great atmosphere. The staff were on hand to help throughout and couldn’t do enough for us. They catered for the 120 guests and everyone complimented the food, lots of choice and plenty to choose from. I’m thrilled we decided to book the gold room because it was everything we wanted, our friends loved the outdoor terrace and stayed there most of the evening. The team decorated the room exactly how we wanted and provided the sashes which saved us a job! I really couldn’t recommend enough - thank you to all the staff that helped us and went above and beyond. You made out night! ❤️

This is the WORST booking experience i have ever had. So unprofessional and shows no heart at all.Dickens 2 booking was CANCELLED without warning.Gone quiet and have not paid me back my refund as i did not use the service.felt racially MOTIVATED.

The night itself couldn't have gone any smoother - every single member of staff went above and beyond! Jack and Mario looked after us on the night and they couldn't do enough. The feedback i've had is that its the best party we've ever had and its all down to Dickens 2 staff. The food was gorgeous and plentiful, the DJ (Adam - you legend!) was top class and the staff were a delight! Can't thank you all enough - see you next year!

Celebrated my 40th in the dickens 2 it was a fantastic venue. Julie and the team were helpful from the beginning with my booking the hot buffet was delicious and everyone had the best time. Would recommend the venue for private functions

Used to be buzzing in here on a lunchtime. Now - the only nice thing Is the new green velvet chairs! Had chicken pitta with a minuscule amount of chicken, loads of lettuce and a pile of frozen chips - £5.50!!!!! What a shame - used to do homemade chunky chips and have good service. Poor value

I got severe food poisoning after eating in the cafe.

11 of us went for a birthday, table booked for bottomless brunch £30 each, weeks prior and no knowledge of what food we'd get. Expected, like most places burger etc. No. You can choose 2 items each of the "chuck it in the fryer" list. Chips, cheesy chips salt and pepper chips, sweet potato fries, tempura prawns, chicken goujons, onion rings, spring rolls, mozzarella sticks and hallomi fries. The chips are advertised as "gourmet chunky chips" We asked if these were home made or frozen.. Told home made. They weren't, cheap bog standard frozen chips. We complained and just got told sorry staff didn't know. No cutlery or condements offered. Meant to be bottomless drinks however we were waiting ages for the drinks to turn up. One member of staff for our party of 11 and another party behind us. The poor lass was run ragged and stressed to hell. She was also working behind the bar. Staff issues desperately need addressing. The toilets, where do I start.. It was also retro which was a ticket event so busy. Upstairs toilets were closed and the downstairs ones were disgusting. No toilet roll in any cubicle, the floor was awful. Filthy and soaked. Rubbish and empty cups scattered everywhere. Queue for the loo was horrendous too. Definitely will not be back and do not recommend. Sort it out dickens!

Went for a bottomless brunch not long ago & the staff didn't seem to know where they were half the time. The same drinks orders were taken twice everytime before being made & had to wait a good amount of time in between drinks, so it's not really a 'bottomless' because staff definitely make sure you're not getting anymore than around 6 drinks. Lovely place but definitely over rated and over priced

Lovely evening venue with outside seating

Went tonight for evening meal with the family. Abdullah took care of us, especially our little girl, even asking the kitchen to prepare something not on the menu. Would recommend and thanks to Abdullah for the great service. Thanks Martyn

I eat out regularly and I would honestly say this was the very worst experience from beginning to end I've ever had at any venue. We booked for friends birthday, found it overpriced for value, very limited options on the BB menu, freezer food and only 2 cocktails to choose from plus spirit mixer, beer and cider. Rude argumentative manager with unclear rules, you won't get your deposit back if you decide to change your mind about going there but you don't have to sign anything and they don't make it clear that is the case which I have never dealt with anywhere I've been before . £90 for a few bits of chicken and a few vodkas, wouldn't go in there again unfortunately unless management were to improve drastically.

The guy who speaks Italian and has the grandfather Italian is very helpful and very kind. We enjoyed the music and the company. Excellent Negroni! Thank you Vanessa & Rishi

Lovely afternoon tea with a friend for my birthday. Staff were incredibly helpful and the afternoon tea was delicious. I would definitely visit again.

Very clean and nice the staff was very polite and helpful. The cocktail did not seem have much alcohol a lot of ice, the cream tea where do I start presentation none sandwiches was thrown on the stand could not make out what was what, cakes from supermarket and the scones never tasted one like it. The first and last time. Never again.

This overpriced pub plays music so loud that it is heard from the silent study area of the university library opposite. Despite it being on university campus, it is out of the student price range. The type of crowd this pub attracts is those obsessed with image.

Went to celebrate a birthday/baby shower, service was very poor, staff seemingly no knowledge of what they were assigned to do,the host was stop start taking guest drink orders, likewise with food orders(afternoon tea) which had been pre ordered, the food(sandwiches and cake)was poorly presented,bland ,sparse no balance, cream sponge,and cream scones,no variety,if you have allergies,no options, very poor, would not recommend

Had a function in Dickens2 which was arranged at very short notice, the staff who arranged it for us were brilliant. The food was very good, and the people who attended enjoyed it.

Had a great time yesterday at the Bottomless Brunch. Our group of four were looked after very well by the lovely staff who couldn't do enough for us. Special mention to Danni and Sharon, thanks guys, you were great! Lovely food and the drinks were flowing, really good value. Highly recommended!

One of the liveliest restaurants of Middlesbrough located at the city heart just beside Teesside University. Soothing ambient with dj and music along with both indoor and outdoor sitting arrangements. The staff team is friendly and welcoming.

Bar staff fabulous but food not good, stating fabulous parmo I don't think so I have had better take aways. Sorry

This establishment is located in Middlesbrough but has London prices. 2 pints of lager came to £11. £5:50 for a pint is way over what you would eXpect to pay in this town.

Went there for a birthday do, everyone was very excited but it soon all went downhill. We were shown to an outside table even though we had specifically booked inside. The staff member showing us to our table was very rude and had no people skills. It took 28 minutes to get a drink and this was the quickest of the 6 rounds we had. We asked for same again but the order was incorrect every time and the costs varied from £36 - £42. This was for 7 drinks so between £5 - £6 each drink on average. The staff were all young, no knowledge about what the place sold in terms of drinks, kept getting the orders wrong. The last round of drinks got lost twice and we waited over an hour for a drink. The staff had obviously failed their Wetherspoons exams! The bouncers were power mad and throwing people out at any opportunity. Oh and local ‘celebrity’ Amelia Lily turned up 3 hours late for her table and the bouncers let her in and disregarded it. Anybody else would not have been allowed. The place was also charging £10 for a thin blanket if people were cold. 10 bloody pounds! Rip off, poor service, awful behaviour from staff. Will not be back.

The place itself is nice, due to current rules we were sat outside and they have done a really nice job and it looks quite nice. My main issue with this place is the cost of a drink, a pint of very average lager was £5, which for this area is about £2 too much and really unjustifiable. The staff are on the whole decent, however you are constantly under pressure to finish your drink if you have a quarter of a pint left by the glass collector. This happened to us several times. Toilets were pretty disgusting. Summing up, this place has your eyes out and I can't imagine it will go well for them charging £5 a pint in this area.

Have never been so ashamed and disgusted! Staff immediately stopped us and were really judge due to the way we were dressed, then we were told to go sit “somewhere over there”. Then we were blanked when we asked how we were to order. After 10-15 minutes of waiting to be served, a rude young girl simply asked “what ya want”. Four drinks were ordered which came to over £20. As for the safety side, nobody was wearing masks and the bouncer was too busy trying to act “buff” instead of actually doing his job! This establishment has for readily downhill and I hope that management sort something out.

Honestly the staff that work here especially saffron and Hanya and Kelsie and Sophie are the best staff, they were very fast with our orders and very helpful!!!

Sorry it's the wrong Dickens. My review was for the cocktail bar in Costa Teguise Lanzarote Great cocktail bar, usually open late but not sure with the virus about. Will call when I am there in January

They have a table booking system which they charge £20 for (then you get £15 off bill). But when you arrive, have to queue for over an hour. Got in at 9.40pm when we booked for 8.30pm

No safety measures in place whatsoever. Ran by a bunch of kids who dont know what they're doing tbh. A young lad was sat having drinks then coming round abruptly taking glasses which we were stunned to realise he was staff, and if you weren't finished he would ask you to hurry up. Girls taking orders at the table need training in customer service, when we asked to pay separately as we were in a group we were told no because 'the bar staff get fuming over it'. Ok well they're staff and I'm a customer so i couldn't care less if they're fuming about it. A double gin and lemonade was £6 one minute and £8.50 the next round? When questioned the girl didn't want to know, said its £8.50 and always has been. Wouldn't return if it was the only bar in boro open.

Great night out with a vibrant atmosphere the bar has multiple rooms playing different styles of music.

What I witnessed last night at this place was shocking , rude bar staff to the point of aggressive, doormen making young girl wait in the freezing temperatures as she waited for taxi as doormen did not believe her age and allowing this poor girl in a slinky ,dress to stand on pavement while laughing at her. On my way out overheard thug doorman saying F off you fat c to another young woman , honestly in this day and age ,had this been my daughter, the owner s would be facing a law suit against them .

Strange, I used to drink here many years ago, during my student years. And it was a really cool place. But now? I'm not that keen. Staff seemed angry, and impolite

First time coming in the middle of lectures and my Lord it's lovely. Had the fajitas for like 5.60 and double rum and coke for 4.60 and wow fast service friendly patient staff and even a personal touch of the owner coming to clear your plate and ask about the food !! Amazing truly amazing place.

I've enjoyed a light lunch here with friends on a few days when worked nearby and can't complain - pretty tasty if on the pricey side as portions were smallish.If I go out around town, which is rare now-a-days! I do like to pop in to the cocktail bar for a few drinks - always busy but you generally don't have to queue too long and you don't want it to be dead! Main bar area is always much busier, so can wander through for a bit of a dance if want to bump with the crowds.Toilets are the usual disgustingness on a weekend night, but then again aren't all bars pretty much the same.

Walked in and ordered our drinks. Place smelt awful. Toilet drains. Couldn't finish our drinks and left. Won't be returning.

Great day granddaughters christing food good, staff excellent

First of all, the place stinks. There’s an awful smell in the entrances. Secondly the lady serving at the bar had no manners at all, point blank ignoring what people have ordered and then when she’s put the food through the waiting staff are having to come to every table cause she hasn’t told them where anyone is sat. They are having arguments about where food is going in front of customers. They food came out randomly. We ordered chips with our food and they didn’t come out until 10 minutes after the sandwich. No apology no nothing. Not welcoming, another unhappy customer looking at the other comments.

They have vast choice for such a cosy place

Good atmosphere but stinks! Smells like a dirty sewer - they said it was down to external plumbing but the venue's nextdoor didn't seem to have this issue! Ironically, their toilets smelt great!
