The best restaurants serving British food in South East

We had dinner and breakfast at Bricks and the quality of the food has improved since our last visit. The staff are polite and friendly I’d recommend eating here after a busy day in the park. The food is on the expensive side, but like any hotel you expect to pay more. Breakfast was also very good.

As a fairly regular client since 2015 we are so dissappointed that this, our one time favourite regular, has sunk to such a low state. It was a hub of warmth and coviviality when Anna ran it but now we find it cold and pretty unwelcoming even after the change of ownership. Even the new table layout seems to jar somewhat. The fish finger sandwich was good, the coronation chicken a chef should be ashamed of - a smear of sauce on the bread and chicken put on top. That is not acceptable. The service I would describe as desultory at best and not focused on the customer standing in front of him, and even if so not with a smile. It is such a gorgeous building from the outside it is a shame nothing on offer inside matches it. Going to the pub is no longer a cheap trip out and the total package needs to be on offer to justify a visit, beat the competition and optimise the yield from footfall. Plenty of better options with a few miles.

We visited today and it was lovely the greeting from both the ladies waitressing was friendly and comfortable. The food was great my husband having the calamari to start was perfect then followed by rump steak, my husband said it was one of the best steaks for flavour he had in a long time and that included one we paid for at a well known local steak house which was nowhere near as good in either quality or flavour. I had the haddock it was done in the most crispiest batter imaginable so light and the fish perfectly done. We will definitely return but has to be said could not speak highly enough of the two ladies serving the meals thank you .

Great breakfast, Chris was very helpful and friendly. Food and drink were to a good standard, we had a full breakfast and the kid eat free.

Given the options in Chobham and surroundings for Sunday lunch the Four Horseshoes needs to up it's food game quick. The sunday roast was by no means bad ...but it's not great either. The service was good, but sauces were missing from the roasts. The beef was fatty and a little overdone.. The lamb was slow cooked so no complaints there but the rest of it was just in need of a lift by a notch or two. Burger was overcooked but edible. I stopped coming here a while back and came for another chance as I heard it was under new ownership .. concentrate on the cooking of the food please - the rest - the location, decor and staff is fine.

Staff are superb. A wonderful warm Welsh welcome. My boys are always well looked after. The selection is great and the eggs (scrambled and poached) are perfect. Thank you

Some tasty dishes, but not enough vegan/veggie options. They used to have very cheap yummy veggie breakfast but not anymore. The building is very spacious and nice aesthetic.

I went with family for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised that they let dogs inside. The cooked breakfast was perfectly cooked and very nice too. The staff are very friendly and polite. The establishment was very clean and is worth a visit.

We often go for a Saturday breakfast but this was the first time midweek since they moved from just Saturday breakfasts to all week and from 8am instead of 9am. Very few customers but the food was all available. However as frequent visitors we feel we must mention the toilets , they are gross . Locks hanging off doors , flush buttons non functioning etc . And the restaurant itself is crying out for refurbishment. The food is good but the standard of the fit out with disgustingly dirty carpets etc lets it down . Please throw some money at this restaurant and give the staff something to be proud of Head Office !

Pedí un café con leche de avena y un croissant. Nunca me cobraron por el café. Ir a recoger la orden y luego me preguntó si quería una bebida. Dije que sí. Pedí un café con leche de avena. Se le pidió que pagara el café. Me preguntaron si me habían acusado dos veces. Mujer barista argumental. Dijo que me preguntó si quería café y dijo que no. ¿Por qué iba a pedir leche de avena sin bebida? Insistió en que le pedí un café negro aunque dijo que nunca pedí una bebida. Más interesado en un enfrentamiento que en resolver el malentendido. Nunca más.

Just back from our ‘breakfast with Santa’ at the Mansion House Harvester in Reading. I wanted to share amazing our experience as we were really impressed and so would defo recommend! The Santa’s grotto was really well decorated and a lot of effort had gone into making it special for children. Santa and his Elf were really great too and really friendly and went to a lot of effort. It was really well organised with bringing table up at a time to go into santas grotto and Elf did this superbly. Santa gave a Christmas stocking to the children which included some activities and a little chocolate. The elf took a picture of your family with Santa on your own phone too. There was also Christmas table activities for the children as well. The food was really lovely and presented well and really reasonably priced, food came out quickly too which is a bonus with small children. My son said his pancakes were the best pancakes he’d ever had! You didn’t have to put down a deposit to book whereas a few places you have to do this. As it’s located in prospect park you can also take your children for a run around after too to burn off some of their energy. Thoroughly enjoyed our time and we will definitely be booking again for Santa next year! Also special mention to our waitress Sandy who was really great with interacting with the children! The restaurant was really nicely decorated for Christmas and really clean. The lady on the front desk in a stripy top with brown hair was also fabulous and so friendly (didn’t catch her name but she had an accent)

Very poor, fish uncooked table staff not interested chips like yesterdays warmed up can how earth can anyone mess up fish n chips

Amazing food great service had a great evening. Shelley our waitress was very helpful very quick with our food even though she had to deal with alot of us .

Lovely meal, warm welcome and excellent service from our waitress Toni-Jane. Belly pork and chorizo skewers where very good and the kids menu had a great selection for all, my little girl loved it.

Staff coped well on a busy Half Term day when their booking system had gone down. Salad bowls came quickly and fed two hungry children. Hot food order was slow but then it was packed. My Classic Burger was a little overcooked and dry so I. The rest of the family were very happy. Bizarrely, one frozen chip amongst 6 year old's lovely hot chips.
