Sadly a disappointing Sunday roast. First of all we were shown to a table of 4. Yet there were 4 adults and two children. We then got sat in a beautifully decorated area, however it was absolutely freezing ( doors wide open round the corner and no fires or heating on) Our roasts arrived before our drinks. 2 of the wines ordered were not available. Yet they waited until the drinks came ,half an hour later to tell us this. Then one friend has to go find someone to ask for her wine as it never arrived. Roast no more than average. Cauliflower cheese was stone cold and had to be sent back. When it came out again it was luke warm at best. Beef was certainly not medium rare as advertised, in fact was the mostly the fatty ends . The staff seemed completely uninterested/untrained.(bar one lovely young girl). Wine that wasn’t available was also added to the bill. Sadly a group of locals who won’t be returning.

Tried going to Two Brewers. They told us they did not serve food. Found this place instead. We ordered the Chicken and Mushroom pie and the Fish Pie. Both were good pies. The fish pie had some chewy cod but otherwise was good. The gravy for the chicken and mushroom pie was the best part.

We have always ate at our local befeeter but now we have tried this one I will never eat at our local again. The chef is amazing food came out hot looked amazing and tasted the best I have tasted in a long time. This chef must love his job and I hope he is proud of what he achieved. We ordered a 3 course and couldn't manage it. We have to order a 3 course at our local as portions are so small. I still can't get over how amazing my meal was. And the place its self we have never been didn't even know it was there. It was just by chance that rainbow restaurant had no heating so we googled and found this place. We was worried would end up at the one near premiere inn, but this place is so lovely. Cosy, welcoming, we have said we will travel an hour just to go and have lunch again or even book a hotel to spend the evening here as such a nice place. Everything I wanted relaxed. Warm and such friendly staff. Waitress couldn't do enough for us. Wish I had room for desert.

Just had lunch at the Horse and Jockey, we were very impressed by the meals that we were served and also the fact that my friends dairy intolerance was catered for. I also had two fine pints of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord’. The service was great, Sue was very attentive and friendly.

Portway Inn, was the best place for breakfats for my family and I. we use to go each week. Todday we were turned away and was told they no longer accept outside customers only residents only. I have taken a picture of each of these. There terms and conditions, there website, their menu and when you walk towards the reception entrance from car park, no where does it say residents only can get breakfast. what a waste of time and fuel. I am so disappointed.

Very disappointing experience! This lovely pub usually serves excellent food. Not sure if they've recently lost their chef? But the outside catering they had from 'menu by leona' was appalling! Listed as 'tapas'?? The pub was noticeably quieter with very few people eating! This has to be a first in my years of experience of this usually excellent pub! I hope it was a temporary glitch just after Xmas and not a permanent thing!

Just love visiting this pub. Great atmosphere, very friendly and delicious food. There are small rooms if you want a more intimate quiet meal or the main restaurant and the bar area which is more lively though I don't think you can book the bar area. The Sunday roast is amazing. We usually pre book the rare roast beef as it is a very understandable sell out. The daily specials are always good and they have wide variety of dishes that are not the usual pub grub if you want something different. That said the cottage pie is amazing!

Wonderful experience. We were having a birthday celebration for my husbands retirement. We had booked in November for family to join us as it was 3 days before Xmas and knew it would be busy. I popped in a week before and pre ordered our meals just to help, a little niggle was that our desserts had run out even though pre ordered, but the staff were so friendly, attentive and apologetic that we didn't mind and we chose alternative. It's a really, really busy time and these things happen. The staff came out with a candle on my husbands dessert and sang Happy Birthday to him which was a lovely touch. The atmosphere was wonderful, nice country pub feel just like the good old days, warm, welcoming and lovely staff. Our party all commented on how great the meal was considering it was a packed Sunday lunch time . Thanks to all at The Crooked Billet. See you again.

Amazing price of £10 for three courses on a fish Friday. The service was efficient, food good and ambience fine. We can't work out how the Star Inn can keep the prices so very reasonable. Definitely recommend and will visit again if in the area.
