Was very impressed with how our large event/meet up, was catered for last night. We were unable to give a precise time of arrival, or exact numbers, or our menu choices. However we were all seated together, and our orders were dealt with quickly and everyone got the food they wanted and at the same time, not an easy task with more than 30 in our party. Very friendly Landlord and staff. Would definitely recommend.

We went for a family meal today to celebrate my husbands birthday. We all (4 of us) selected the carvery, but unfortunately the food was just warm. We mentioned this to the waitress who didn't seem surprised at all, and she also said that we were not the first to have said this! It was a shame as the food tasted very nice, but was very much let down by the temperature. The waitress explained that the food would have been warmer if we had eaten earlier in the day, but the food should have been hot, regardless of what time of time we had ordered it. The staff were all very welcoming and made us feel very welcome.

Lovely meal to welcome in the new year. Our friends loved it. We had scotch egg, mushroom and terrine starters. Followed by lamb rump, chicken and pork belly. Finished with Baileys Creme Brûlée, Eton Mess and bread and butter pudding. All lovely. Bottle of Sauvignon was nice too. Only £29 but very nice.

My visit was not good, we had a booking for 3pm which i paid £50 for 20 people (was told we can get in 20mins before to set everything up) but was not able to get in until 3.30pm, also we was told we could order separately 'as there was 4 families paying' so when it was time to pay the payment was added altogether so the manager had to divide it all as each person had to have their deposit taken of their bill, there was no communication between assisting manager and manager, And next evening nearly everyone was vomiting and had diarrhea

Had a 3 course Christmas meal food was amazing 1st course goats cheese warm salad with walnuts and roasted beetroot 2nd course beef on mash potato with side vegetables (beef was so tender it just fell apart) 3rd course Christmas pud with custard and my husband had orange cheesecake. Food was so well presented and the new chef is top class also the staff were efficient and so friendly well done Vicki and Ash this is certainly worth a visit either for lunch dinner or a Sunday roast so get yourself along you won't be disappointed.

Went for this years team lunch. So we all chose from the set Christmas menu. It is acceptable to produce food to a price for set menus. However if they are, then make them enjoyable. My ‘ slow cooked beef brisket’, instead of being what I had assumed would be slow cooked and fall apart. Was a tough lump, as if it was an inch cut from last Sunday lunch left overs. Those that had the Turkey faired better, but one twig of greens on a dollop of mash, with five strings of red cabbage ! My pint of beer was good but, Guinness from a can ! If I had been with family I would have sent it back. But we were on time constraints to return to work. In past years I have been retirement drinks here, then stayed to eat. Shame.

We've been twice in two weeks, just because the food is so amazing. We've come here for years, the food has hi's and lows. Currently the best it's been, the Miso roast chicken is superb, the ham hock too. Calamari and humous starters delightful. Service is great, even when busy. Only thing spoilt our visit was people letting their toddlers run up and down the length of the bar, using it as lunchtime playground.

Play area always closed!! indoors and outdoors closed. Staff said they’re not earning enough to open the play areas, last year they cancelled my nephews birthday party on the day of the party (due to staffing issues) the place is a let down. Should be sold to someone who can actually run a restaurant and play area as normal. Taylor waste of a venue. Also the food is crap 💩

I love toby carvery and it’s refreshing to actually find one with such friendly staff and not feeling rushed to leave as i usually come late because of work commitments. Id like to mention andrew for being so outgoing and polite, id also like to mention olivia, ruby and tasha for their amazing table service and was sure to ask how our meals was and if we needed anything else. Because of this id happily travel from pontypool where i live to come here over going to closer ones. Thank you all.

We stayed one night in the Maiden's Tower and ate in the restaurant in the evening. We enjoyed the meal but the gnocchi wasn't all that - nor, sadly, was the frangipane dessert. I would definitely swerve those! The staff were really friendly and efficient. We had the full English breakfast the following morning and I would disagree with the negative views as we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast as all was cooked well and very tasty. The pastries were nice and warm and still flaky - very nice!
