This is my local and I love it!! The staff, food, drinks and atmosphere are amazing and I always stay way longer than planned because I’m having such a lovely time ♥️

We've been to the Sussex Cricketers a fair few times since it has reopened as it really offers a fresh modern environment whilst maintaining the conviviality of more traditional pubs. The range of beers and cocktails is great, the food is excellent and the staff are always friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend as one of the nicest pubs in Hove.

Excellent establishment! Have eaten, drunk, chatted, watched sport, danced and thoroughly enjoyed myself on 6 occasions during the past 6 months. The burger was as brilliant as the roast and my dessert was top ranking on my Return & Have Again list. Or Hove again?! Couldn’t fault the attentive staff - nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous atmosphere during both the football and the tennis finals. Clean and organised place …. adore the decor. Not been open that long - always teething troubles and a few negative customers but management smooth them out with willingness and charm -well done everyone - we will certainly be back soon.

This pub is fantastic. Brilliant service, staff go above and beyond for you. Decor is fab, bathrooms are jazzy and the music is always spot on. I first went for the Sunday roast (which is amazing, soo tasty and the roast potatoes are perfection!) and have been back many times for drinks. Would highly recommend the cocktails, the spicy margaritas and Bloody Mary’s are my favourite! Love love love it here.

First time here since it was rebuilt. Absolutely lovely pub. Great service, selection of drinks and ambience. Check out the pies, they are massive!

Music was insanely loud, about the same level as a club, but it's a local neighbourhood pub (?!?), the bar staff (x 3) looked like they'd need ID to get into the place, one didn't know what a 'soda and black' was and when they filled the glass with ice (bottom to brim of the pint glass) I asked for a little less ice but the music was so loud she couldn't hear me (at about 1-1.5 meters away). Her annoying colleague did see me, and I think heard me, but she just looked at me with a patronising smile and shook her head (?)... I was asked if I wanted a straw and I said no because I still had my last drink (unfinished) on my table but when I got back it was gone. I then went back to the bar to ask for a straw and the same patronising bar staff gestured to a pint glass of straws, that were on her side of the bar but within reach of the public (a pub rules no go - patrons helping themselves?), and said "they're over there".... Brighton and Hove has some great pubs, this isn't one of them, if you want a pub that's trying to be a club (again, in the middle of a quiet neighbourhood - next to the county cricket ground 😆), but succeeds at neither, then you're in luck, if you want a pub where you can talk with friends and family over a drink or two (and hear each other) and not be given 'short shrift' by a trio of school girls, then this is not the place for you I'm afraid 👍 as I found out 🫤

Fantastic local pub, great roasts, excellent cocktails and an extensive range of beers and spirits. Fun atmosphere for groups and families. I have enjoyed watching football, lunch with family and a beer after work ( I go there a lot!). Wheelchair access down the side. All the staff are lovely always welcoming and very helpful to locals and visitors to the town alike. I would highly recommend a visit and make sure you check out the loos!

Lovely dinner here, had the selection of small plates and all were great.

Popped in for a quick drink, didn't eat but the food looked nice. Till next time....

Revamped pub right next to cricket ground. Lacks character, but plenty of seating, reasonable selection at the bar and service was prompt.

First visit here since the pub has had a modern refurbishment. I really like the modern design ,the colours and art work .Pub feels comfortable and spacious .Sunday Roast lunch was very generous in portion and tasty .Well cooked and my friends agreed .Dessert also good.Felt like we had eaten well .Service was efficient and friendly .Will definitely return .

This pub could do so much better. No atmosphere at all and that comes down to the manager. Make it more community focused and sporty as it's next to the cricket ground Went in to watch a game for the euros, only sport they do, and they play music instead of the commentary Learn from the the palmeria pub up the road Maybe show the away cricket matches which are streamed on you tube Show the rugby Disappointed local resident x

Dinner with friends, music so loud couldn't hear each other. Food was terrible. Hamburger was raw in middle. Salt pepper squid was chewy and neither salt nor pepper. Fish n chips average. Service was great but no return for noise and quality of food

Great pub with large selection of food and drink, lovely atmosphere.

The stars say it all. Would definitely go again.

I went here for the first time on Sunday for a family roast. The staff were very helpful and the service was great. There was a very pleasant open feel to the place. The food was amazing, by far the best roast I’ve had in Hove. Will definitely be back again soon!

We recently went for a family roast here. The service was great. So helpful and friendly. We were recommended a starter and I have never tasted anything quite like it. 10/10 It was amazing. My daughter isn’t a fan of roasts so she opted for pasta. There was a good range of options for her which she was happy about. The roasts were so full of flavour and the meat was cooked to perfection. It was also a nice touch that we could see the chiefs working away. We posted pictures on social media and my friends liked the look of the food so much they went the same day. We will definitely be returning soon.

Nice looking place but the food prices are outrageous for the quality served.

Style Over Substance Pros: - The decor is lovely, with great design and decoration. Cons: - Paying £6.95 for a non-alcoholic beer is outrageous; it should be no more than £4.50. - The beef patty in the burger was good, but the bun was overly fluffy and chewy, which was unpleasant. For £18, I expected better quality and a drink included. - If this pub were in London's West End, I could understand the high prices, but it's in Hove, so it feels overpriced. - When a pub is nearly empty, I'd expect the bar staff to serve customers promptly, but instead, they were ignoring patrons and serving their friends free drinks.

Very expensive and very average.£6.40 a pint of standard larger and £24 for roast beef.Restaurant prices in a pub,would not return.

Nice place to have a drink. Good music, service and a really nice outdoor area if you can get a table.

Roasts to die for! Decent portions and utterly delicious. Our group tried all the different roasts on the menu and everyone was really impressed with the quality and what good value it was. We’ll definitely be back for more and would highly recommend 😋

Nice interior decor, bar staff are friendly, quick service, and prices are reasonable with deals on cocktails 2 for £16. Outdoor seating is lovely on a sunny day (although uncovered).

The first thing is probably the most important! The Sunday roasts which honestly are delicious and one of the best Sunday roast lamb and sides I've eaten!. For a first time coming into the pub it was disorienting and confusing due to how busy it was and the size of the place, I feel this could easily be improved by having a host on the front door directing booked bookings to tables or helping with any further customer queries. With the food quality I feel this place should or could offer full table service with maybe an added optional service charge which would enhance the guests experience and generate a higher hourly rate for the chefs and front of house staff. I defentley will be returning and highly recommended!.

Beautiful decor but nothing like it used to be unfortunately!!. Staff very pleasant and good service however the food was very disappointing. Soggy gnocchi & chips that tasted like they had been reheated!!. Will go back but not for food.

Called in for a beer on a Monday afternoon. Very quiet. Nice pint of Guinness, couldn't see any real ale. Apart from that, a good selection of beers. Nice comfortable pub, clean and bright. Great for a large party of people. Also comfortable bays. Menu looked OK. Disabled access at the back. Pleasant staff. Will try the food next time.

I booked a table for myself, my two sons and my parents yesterday for Mothers Day. However when I went to order my food, I was turned away as I have food allergies. A member of staff informed me that the Council had visited them recently and advised them anyone with a food allergy cannot be served. As you can imagine my shock and sever disappointment that mine and my mums Mother’s Day was completely ruined. Later that day I checked their website and there is no mention of this. I am absolutely furious and deserve a more detailed explanation. Please be warned anyone with a food allergy not to waste your time visiting this restaurant.

Really good, tasty food with a vegan option. Staff are great and they have a good choice of ales and wines.

The SC went out of their way to accommodate severe allegories on our group. The chef prepared a specific menu suitable for the variety of foods that needed avoiding. The waitress asked specific and relevant questions, and served his food first, to ensure no cross-contamination. They even went as far as to ask if all okay with ordering drinks etc from the bar. Outstanding attention. Food was really good as was the atmosphere- really lovely lunch. So appreciative of their attentiveness and professionalism. Great for dogs and babies too!

Very well designed new pub. Stylish mix of Scandinavian and New York architecture. Excellent jazz on weekends that is totally free.

Average food, poor service and v expensive. Been here twice, the venue is big and sparse, food is about average but expensive. The service is mixed, we had a problem booking a table for 8 (Inc children) and being given a high table. Explained it wasn’t fit for purpose, so empathy or solution offered. Head to good companions at the dials, more atmos and better food

I haven't visited this pub since the refurbishment, and I was so impressed with the decor and ambience. Really stylish and lots of different styles of seating. Liked the fact they have "old pub-style" rugs, nice little nod to the pub's history. We booked specifically for a roast via email, and changed out booking time to be earlier as were told from 4pm onwards would be the normal menu (not roasts). On arrival we found it was the normal menu with the addition of 1 roast as the kitchen had a sudden change of plan that morning. Initially disappointing as I'm vegetarian and 2 of the party didn't want beef. Alas, they ordered the beef and I ordered a roast with no meat, and a confit duck ordered by another of our party...The food was excellent! We all cleared our plated and would certainly go back again!

Went there for an Xmas dinner Food was OK, service a little haphazard. However, as a venue, not really suited to dining, tbh, it's designed more to be a beer hall

1st time visit after total refurbishment. Spacious and nicely done up, feels so much more modern and welcoming. Staff were super friendly, polite and professional today at 12:30pm. 10 out of 10. Special offer on the Espresso Martini, 2 for £16, spot on with the coffee liquor. The beers were very nice too. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked to requested medium, juicy and tender, and portion size is definitely very generous. Not a huge menu to offer, but it helps massively in better food quality and cooking to perfection. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back sooner next time.

Newly reopened this is a nice pub /bar. Trendy decor. Nice summer terrace. Food and beer selection is as you'd expect.

Excellent modern boozer with a great selection of craft beer. Only one cask but it was well maintained. Friendly staff, plenty of space. Haven't eaten here yet but the menu reads well. Cheers!

Fabtastic roast! I booked a table for myself and a few friends - I then needed to alter the booking and it was all done without any hassle. The food was delicious, the mulled wine was great and we will definitely be going back again!

Preferred the old style of the previous Sussex Cricketers and the new one had a lack of atmosphere.

We had an amazing meal yesterday evening. The roast meals were delicious and no complaints with the portion size. 20 min wait for food after ) orders placed was good and food arrived together. Staff very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back again.

Beautifully decorated new pub! The staff is very nice and friendly and the food is great for pub food. They had a really nice vegan roast and I was so happy that this would become my go to pub for sunday roasts! Unfortunately they no longer serve it! It's no longer on the menu and I don't understand why... They have a veggie roast but I'm really intolerant to dairy and it has feta in it so can't have it... I'll never understand why so many pubs and restaurants have 4 or 5 meat roasts but can't cater for veggies AND vegans and in my case dairy intolerants... My husband was quite excited because they added a lamb roast which he loves and I was quite happy for him but I had to go for the fish and chips instead...

My husband and I always come here since it’s been refurbished.. whether it’s a weekday or weekend, the food and staff are always amazing! The food is phenomenal and with the change of menu on a regular basis gives you more of a reason to keep coming. The decor is lovely and has a chill vibe to it. They’ve started doing mulled wine which I need to say is prob one of the best I’ve had! The food is literally 10/10 and is way more than pub food.. the small dishes are just next level!!!!

I love this pub, it has a really chilled vibe during the day (in fact I'm making use of the large tables and comfy seats with my laptop) and has a nice atmosphere in the evening with all of the open space. The food honestly gets better and better. I don't think I've ever eaten so well in a pub - possibly one of my favourite meals I've eaten. (I had the pork chop with caramelised onion jus, crispy potato and hispi cabbage)

Amazing Sunday roast dinner! The beef was cooked to perfection, My sister had the pork which she described as one of the best bits of pork belly she’s had in a long time. The Yorkshire puddings were crisp but fluffy baked to perfection we topped off our meals with a sticky toffee pudding each which were divine and the perfect way to end the meal. one of the best roasts I’ve had in Hove !

Absolutely fantastic! The Cricketer is a great pub since the refurb, nice interior and balcony, good drinks but since the change in kitchen and menu this is the place to visit!! The food is sensational, if you’re a foodie you have to try it. Great selection, top quality cooking at its finest. You cannot go wrong. Seriously impressive.

The all new Sussex Cricketer is totally different to it's previous incarnation. More trendy bar grill feel about it than local pub. Not that that is all good. No rear garden any more but the front terrace works well and is comfortable and being raised didn't have a side-of-the-road feel about it. Decent food. Good range of beer. Nice decor.

Visited a couple of days ago for lunch, staff were very friendly and welcoming, service was quick and efficient. The food was up there for the best I’ve ever eaten and it came out quickly. I’d definitely recommend and I’ll definitely be back.

Visited here for my birthday on 5th October 2023. Service was very good, food came out quickly, presentation, temperature and taste of the food was divine. Varied menu with lots to choose from. Would definitely recommend and will be back asap

Came for a pint to watch the rugby which was shown on a large projector. Decor is industrial/ maximallist. Feels like an airport bar, quite fancy but more face value fancy. Large space with plenty of different seating at different heights. Didn't buy food but it looked pretty good.

lovely small plates and nice room. Great toilet decor! Really friendly male server. Would benefit from a wider selection of non alcohol grown up drinks e.g. fake gi. etc. Squid and burrata small plates delicious.

Coming again on Sunday this week. Last came for Sunday lunch a month ago. Loved the food. Best roast in hove. Looking forward to the 24th September

A brilliant edition to Hove, how anyone can rate this below 4 star is beyond me. The food and staff are great and the bar is brand new with a cozy relaxed feel and to top all of this, it has a south facing terrace! My new local bar :)

This is a great looking venue. Unfortunately it’s understaffed and food is abysmal. We had a burger and the Sunday roast. The beef was inedible the veg overcooked . Yorkshire pudding ok. Not great value for money. Smoke from outside terrace wafted in and very unpleasant. A lost opportunity to create a great venue . Won’t go back

I ordered the fish pie which arrived quite some time after my friends food. It was completely dry and overcooked. I mentioned it to the staff who were indifferent and rude. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Very disappointed

Only pop in for a pint first visit very impressed love the feel of the place, menu looked good and prices reasonable. Will be back to try the menu and Sunday roast. Feed back later. Update: couldn't resist had a portion of chicken wings and chips, really nice. Great flavors and fresh. Most definitely be back

I recently hired part of the Sussex Cricketer pub for a 30th birthday and I was blown away with the service that Ben and the team provided. We planned the day over the course of a few weeks where I was given a variety of small dishes to choose from. These were made fresh on the day and every one of our guests commented on just how good they were. (I highly recommend the ‘Nduja Arancini’s). Our family and friends enjoyed great food, drinks, sunshine on the terrace and the use of a photo booth which the team kindly let us have on site for the event. I cannot thank everyone involved enough for such a brilliant day!

My family and I booked The Sussex Cricketer on Sunday 6th August. We were told waiting time was half hour for food. I went to the bar to buy drinks for my family . I politely ask the lady behind the bar for a gin and tonic for my wife. She gave the drink to me and I asked if she could remove some of the ice please. The then turned her eyes up as if I was being a pain. That was the start. We eventually got our meals to our table 1 hour and twenty minutes later . We had two young children with us getting restless. I myself ordered pork belly roast. I had no more than a table spoon of meat on this pork belly. I was asked if the meals were OK and I said no meat on this pork . The waitress replied well I'm afraid that is pork belly. I replied,I've eaten in many places and had good pork belly and said chef should not have put this on a plate. I will not be going to The Sussex Cricketers again.

I've been coming here a few weeks and have been impressed by the service and the friendliness of the staff. When The Who concert was on it was amazing to see people served quickly and politely. Great place, great staff

Nicely designed pub but it was very loud and busy. Only one person working the bar which meant it took nearly 15 minutes to get served and then it cost nearly £7 for a non-alcoholic beer

No better than a polished Wetherspoons. The acoustics are terrible, the music playing had a lot of echo and everyone’s chatter bounced around the large open plan bar. The food was very expensive and mediocre at best, the fish pie was inedible. Plus the benches in the booths are hard and uncomfortable.

Ordered the child's portion of the roast, was just enough for me and delicious

Has been dine out nicely lively outdoor area and good selection of drinks. Food menu not extensive but what they do they do well and good for burger and wings type eating.

Went here for a surprise birthday celebration on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was really good, the place was buzzing! The service from the bar was pretty good, but there was no one chap who, when bringing out some food, was quite sarcastic with his comments! I didn't think they were warranted, considering we had chased up on this order due to being much longer than other food, which came out far quicker. Everyone that ate seemed pleased with the food, but I didn't eat myself as I wasn't keen on the menu... a bit too 'fancy' for my tastes. Everyone had a good time and will probably return.

Great looking pub/bar with a sunny terrace table space. Not much in the way of food after 3pm, beware I ordered 'house nuts' for nearly the price of a pint and got a little bag of peanuts...

This place is totally soulless and dull. Plus security insisted on searching our bags on the way in. It’s a suburban pub not West End club!
