Spanish Lady in Brighton and Hove

An example of when a change of manager can positively change an atmosphere and demographic for the better. What a turnaround. Previously a 'dirty pint ' pub for builders with an edgy atmosphere in my view, it's now pivoted firmly to regular folk of all ages and families & is a lot more welcoming as a result. The problems seem to have been eliminated and there's a real sense of engagement with the community. The service is great, the ale is fine and the food looked great value. Well done Toni, you're exactly what the licensed trade & the pub needs.

Enjoyed a good meal with the family here. Tasty curries and very friendly staff. Just moved to the area so it was nice to see. Will be back!

Still the same old grubby pub. Untrained bar staff who can barely be bothered to speak, tasteless roast dinner, zero atmosphere, tv’s blaring out football all over the pub, no loo paper in the ladies. Curious as to who is leaving the current 5 star reviews because no way is this merited. I really wish someone would sort this place out. Saltdean really needs a good pub serving good basic food. How hard can it be?

Esta fue nuestra primera vez comiendo en The Spanish Lady y todos estábamos muy impresionados, la comida era muy buena y abundante, el personal era muy servicial y estábamos bien atendidos. Junto con un par de pintas de lo mejor de Harvey fue un almuerzo encantador - sin duda volveremos.

Just eaten the most delicious homemade beef stew and dumplings. Amazing value if you do their current Mon to Thurs meal deal up to 5pm. Would have been happy to pay a lot more to be honest. Well done guys 😋

Ordered cappachinos but they couldn't make them properly, waited ages for them. They say dogs are welcome but have no facilities for them and ours didn't settle on the hard wooden floors. Very noisy. Food looked very good but not a great choice of food so we didn't order.

The Sunday roasts cooked now are pretty damn good and excellent value for money. New managers are super friendly and really trying hard to make positive changes. Had a great afternoon there yesterday 😊

People are so nice plus the food was so good omg I literally loved it I had a really good experience. Vino a tomar una copa de camino a casa el domingo por la tarde y terminó quedándose para una cena asada. Si te soy sincero, esta no habría sido mi primera elección de establecimiento, pero a la esposa le gusta así que fuimos. Sin embargo, las cosas han cambiado para mejor... ¿Por dentro se ve mucho más limpio y ordenado que antes, sin saber si ha tenido algún tipo de cambio de imagen recientemente? Por casualidad vimos salir el pedido de otra persona para la cena asada, lo que a su vez nos hizo pedir lo mismo nosotros mismos. La comida era excepcional! Una porción muy grande y la camarera no podía hacer lo suficiente por nosotros. Sin duda volveremos en el futuro y recomiendo encarecidamente, gracias por una tarde encantadora.

¡Qué noche tan brillante! Entré con mi hermana que es local para bebidas y comida. Es un menú nuevo, un montón de opciones y precios muy razonables. Fui por la salchicha, puré, guisantes y salsa, estaba genial y la porción era enorme! 4 salchichas, un montón de puré real y toneladas de salsa servidas a un lado. Fue una noche ajetreada ya que fue el primer partido de fútbol de la Eurocopa, pero todo el mundo fue amable y hubo un gran ambiente. Cuando terminó el partido habían reservado un dj para después y él era brillante, realmente atendía bien a la multitud y hacía que la gente se levantara y bailara de inmediato. El nuevo equipo ha hecho de este un pub muy acogedor ahora, el personal del bar es muy amable y acogedor y hay una buena gama de bebidas detrás de la barra. Gracias a todos por una noche fantástica inesperada!

Nothing like its blurb on the website! Very dull menu and dull pub. The girl who served us was nice but it's a downmarket place.

More of a locals pub, noisy with music and tv screens on full blast with everyone loud and hight raised voices as a result. I feel sad that this rip off Britain is forcing pubs to charge so much for a drink. I don't go as often as I did. Cannot afford anymore.

Haven't been for a while, when it opened up it was of course lovely and fresh and clean, went a couple of times and loved it, went back on Saturday and the floors were all very sticky, the glasses were disgustingly dirty and the bar staff are more interested in chatting to each other than actually serving your properly! A lot of people said it would go down again... it's sad though as it's such a lovely view and Saltdean could use a nice pub... what a let down..

Fantastic food and great atmosphere

Yeah - nice pub, this. Definite family vibe going on. Service quick as you like when I went in there late afternoon. A bit of seating outside, and a decent oblique view of the sea, as an estate agent may say. Food available but not partaken on this occasion due to upcoming curry. Decent pint of Neck Oil confirmed.

Went for lunch after looking at an acceptable pub grub menu on their website. On arrival availability of food was very limited and nothing like the website indicated. We asked about this to be told the menus were in the process of change. The venue was empty at a time of day (Friday lunch) one might expect it to be busy. We left and went elsewhere for lunch.

I'll be honest, I did consume a little bit too much falling down juice, so my memory may be hazy but from what I can recall it ws very clean, the bar staff and security were all total sweethearts, the karaoke was very entertaining and everyone there seemed friendly and just out for a good time.

Dogs allowed, pool table, darts, sky sports and reasonable selection on tap. What more can you want?

New owners have taken over this pub and they are doing an amazing job. Food is fantastic, you get loads for your money. It has free juke box and pool on a Monday. They show all sports. The owners have created a great community feel to the pub. I'm really pleased we have just moved here - my new local!!

Draught real ale is in good condition and it’s very pleasant sitting outside on the terrace with stunning seaviews

Came in this evening to see what it was like as I know it’s been opened around a month and wanted to check it out! Enjoyed a few ciders. Was good and the place looks good too! Nice atmosphere and music. Overall pleasant. However the girl on the bar was on her own and I couldn’t see anyone to help her. Not sure if they are still finding their feet and need more staff? But she was rushed off her feet and a queue formed and got a bit busy for one person. Hope the staffing issues are sorted soon and she’s not left lone working.

Visited more recently. This pub has had a massive refurb and is now a much better place to visit. It is close to Saltdean beach and has a lovely outdoor seating area. Friendly and welcoming staff.

Our roast gammon was great, then unfortunately the feeder tank upstairs leaked and we had to vacate the building for our safety. And they refunded all the meals

Worst place, worst food we have ever had. This is not a family pub. Foul language from groups of drunken men. Bouncers on the door says it all. Sad, as it’s our local but will definitely never go back. Its not a good advertisement for Greene King.

New ownership means better food and service. Went and really enjoyed it. Its joe in a different league!

The kitchen here "Union Grill" produce delicious roasts, (I recommend ordering a board which has a mixed roast), really good burgers (Monday 2 for 1) and is a great pub with regular live music and a fantastic enclosed garden! For veggies, they have a 'Mac fritter' burger made of macaroni cheese - its really good!

Ollie the manager and his team were great they saved the day for my dads 86th birthday we booked over a week ago at the Saltdean Carvery and they had forgot to write are booking down so my niece phoned Ollie at the Spanish Lady and he made room to accommodate 17 members of my family. The food was amazing I had the roast beef and my family had many dishes from their menu all the staff were very friendly and professional.

Ollie the manager and his team saved the day for my dad’s 86th birthday we had booked the Saltdean Carvery over a week ago but when we got there they had not written our booking down the week before so my niece phoned the Spanish Lady and spoke to Ollie who accommodated 17 of my family. I had the roast beef and my family had many dishes from their menu the food was amazing. Ollie and the team were friendly and very professional I would recommend the Spanish Lady to all. Refurb is great, staff are very welcoming and friendly however on two occasions of visiting it appears to attract the wrong clientele. People wanting to cause trouble and confront other with potential to violence. Not a pleasant way to spend an afternoon/evening relaxing with good friends.

Always driven past this pub in the past, but after refurb, thought I would give it a try, friendly staff, asked which sky channel I would prefer, food very tasty prepared in house and very reasonable prices well done, but please move one of the TV's away from the pool table.

Nice clean pub. Staff are nice and we got a nice welcome and goodbye from the security guy at the door. Our visit was slightly spoiled by someone with a dog and it just constantly barked and yelped. Some people even got up and left. It should have been the owner and the dog that should have left.

Has had a lovely returb, had high hopes, such a wonderful position by the sea but same old clientele…came in.for quiet drink, all I can hear is a group of lads effing and blinding…this is what I was hoping not to hear for once in this pub…

Well decorated with a Nautical Theme. Bar staff very helpful. Bar menu wasn't extensive but there was sufficient to decide what to have to eat a reasonable cost.

Atmosphere varies, a large venue it really needs people. The couple running it work hard, but they also have the Telscombe Tavern and one or the other is bound to suffer.

During the day a quiet bar .. very nice Spanish style building with an outside seating area with a view of the sea. Drinks were quite expensive .

If i could give it a negative score i would. Horrible cliquey place bad vibes. Give it 6 months it'll be a dive.The barmaid served some Lads ahead of us when we had been waiting 10 mins. Definitely don't recommend The Spanish Lady and we won't be going there again.

I keep hoping this place will one day get better but it seems to be going the other way. Poor service, terrible food, 1 pint was way past its best. Won't be returning until someone decent takes over.

Lovely place for pub lunch and evening drinks with friends

Having lived in Saltdean for 14 years, I now have a place to go where I feel welcome and comfortable, a true local pub in every sense. Brad arrived as the GM just over a year ago, the latest in a long line, nobody wanted to take on this difficult task. He did, he saw the potential, what’s not to like about working in a place with the most incredible sea views? He’s built a quality team. We have Jamie, Sophie, Shana and Leah to tend to our every need, great regular offers too on the Greene King Season Ticket app. Now Fleur has also arrived to oversee the kitchen, lovely ladies all, ready to serve with a smile. Give the liver a try would be my advice, my absolute favourite, although the Thursday rump steak special runs it close. Sports fans can enjoy the two Sky boxes, football, rugby, golf, cricket and horse racing are always available, just ask, the staff are only too pleased to oblige. Indeed we’re planning a Cheltenham Festival preview evening from 5 p.m. on Friday 6th March, come along and exchange your thoughts on all the big races the following week, just latch on to one winner and it could pay dividends? The Festival itself begins Tuesday 10th, always a great occasion, all races live on the big screen TV’s. That Friday 6th also offers the chance to get involved in a Fantasy Pro Golf competition, the “draft” will take place at 7 p.m. Every Thursday evening the KwizzBit Interactive Pub Quiz has become a weekly highlight for many people, myself included. It’s grown significantly, a chance to get together and pit your wits against a friendly crowd, just great fun, give it a try. Thanks to Brad the evening has also evolved into an inspirational event for those who struggle with their mental health. Indeed, he’s taken it a step further by encouraging “Let’s Walk, Let’s Talk” morning strolls along to Rottingdean, those who have participated enjoy it tremendously. Tragically, all thoughts of mental health were affected in the worst possible way this past weekend. Having nowhere to run and nowhere to hide is a hauntingly real situation for so many. Thanks to Brad and the Spanish Lady that is no longer the case for the residents of Saltdean.

This was mine and my partners 1st visit to The Spanish Lady today and we will deffinatly be back. The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. The pub itself had a very inviting feel and in all it was a very nice experience

I have been using this pub on and off for years, however since the new landlord has been in place for about a year now, it has seriously transformed into a fantastic pub. The service the staff the food the ambience all have improved immeasurably. I particularly love the Thursday quiz night as well as the food offerings which has really improved. Bradley and his team are just the best we've ever had in the pub for years. Fantastic work and may the Spanish continue to thrive and soar.

I have frequented this establishment occasionally over a few years, and noticed that there are new members of staff. The new landlord, not sure of his name but he is South African, is extremely friendly, and goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. Where this place has had a bad reputation in the past, he has done his upmost to change this. It was refreshing to see at Halloween that he had a session, where children were carving pumpkins also that one Sunday, he held a craft fair, involving many people. This establishment has definitely improved and the standard of staff is exceptional

One of the very few pubs where I am happy to visit on my own. Welcoming staff, lovely landlord and an excellent selection of beers, wine and gins. Nice seating area outside when the weather is fine, overlooking the sea. The best pub in Saltdean and surrounding area by far.

Stopped off at the Spanish lady on our way home from football. Friendly welcoming staff, good choice of beers, great burgers no disappointment at all unlike our team crashing out of the FA cup!

Popped in for a lunchtime drink and decided to grab a bite to eat. Limited menu with pretty basic items (pizza, burger etc). A few things weren’t available on the menu. Fries were nice - the quality of the rest was pretty poor. How hard is it to provide a decent pizza? I’m assuming the food is not home cooked but shipped in and heated up. A shame, as the pub is in a nice location and could be great with a more inventive menu.

The four of us all had good food in here and the service was excellent. The decor is lovely and the prices reasonable. There were a couple of items unavailable from the menu and bar and the toilet seat was lose but apart from these minor things we all had a very enjoyable lunch. Will definitely be back.

Después de ver las increíbles críticas recientes, decidí traer a un amigo junto con mi papá para algo de comida el domingo. Feliz de escuchar la cocina estaba abierta. Pedí la hamburguesa Hi - Steaks en su increíble menú de hamburguesas (qué elección más increíble) con papas fritas sazonadas. La comida llegó a la mesa muy bien presentada (en cuanto a hamburguesas) las patatas fritas sazonadas eran increíbles y la hamburguesa era increíble. Caliente, se derrite en tu boca hamburguesa. Sin duda volveremos a probar los demás en el menú. Además, el personal fue muy amable y educado, no te molestó, pero estamos allí si los necesitabas para algo. Seguro que vendremos para un almuerzo de cumpleaños con las chicas el miércoles.

Mi esposo y yo vinimos a este pub en algunas ocasiones el año pasado. Principalmente porque podemos llevar a nuestro perro y es local a donde vivimos. Nos pareció que el pub estaba un poco mal y sucio, aunque el personal y los clientes eran muy amables, no era nuestra taza de té.
