I booked a large party of 17 for food on a Sunday afternoon. This was for my daughters Birthday. The landlord was so accommodating and friendly. The food and drinks ordered was superb and served very quickly by the friendly staff. We really liked the venue and everyone had a relaxed and happy time. Thank you.

While the staff were polite and friendly, the food was quite limited. This is now really just basic fish and chips fare, rather than pub food. The fish was nice and golden but had a slightly funny taste, and the chips were average at best and not on par with a chip shop.

My husband ordered fish and chips; the fish was enormous and there was a good quantity of chips. He says it was really good. I had roast beef; there were loads of fresh veggies and roast potatoes and it was all really tasty but I was disappointed in the portion of beef. I got just 1 slice about 5" in diameter that was about 0.5" thick on one side and wafer thin the other. I would go back because it was very good quality and maybe I was just unlucky...

The Master Mariner pub in Brighton Marina is a gem! It's got a fantastic selection of beers, and the location right on the marina adds a lovely touch to the whole experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it a great spot to unwind. The only downside is that the place looks like it could use a bit of TLC. It’s got that charming, lived-in feel, but some parts definitely need some care. Despite that, I absolutely loved it. The character and warmth of the pub more than make up for it. If you're looking for a cosy spot with good beer and a great vibe, The Master Mariner is definitely worth a visit.

i don’t think it was for us this time i dunno we popped in to warm up and have some food , some of the menu items weren’t available and everyone else said they’re food was nice i had a problem with mine and never ended up eating nor was i refunded ,! it was supposed to be tomato soup (soup of the day ) but it smelt like it had curry powder in it and tasted like tikka with two slices of everyday brown bread , it didn’t look like soup either it was like purée (baby food) texture !i have a hernia and can’t eat spicy food had they of said it was spicy to start with i wouldn’t of had it ,they went to check and never came back . i think one of the staff thought we’d already eaten and came and took all the sauces off our table after we had just been told to grab what we wanted , and don’t ask for coleslaw because it is just red cabbage with a not so nice sauce ! The rest of my party ate up and left , i was disappointed as we’d been before and it was amazing i don’t know if this was an off day or what but we will probably take our time before rushing back there

First time visiting for a Sunday roast, and it was lovely . The staff couldn't have been any more welcoming , warm , friendly and so helpful. There was a warm blazing fire 🔥 which was perfect and the atmosphere was buzzy friendly and relaxed . Dogs were more than welcome, too, so dog owner', if you struggle to find somewhere to go, you will have no problems here . Food was good portion size and great value for money . There were enough potatoes and gravy, and the cauliflower cheese was delicious. Veg was seasonal and cooked perfectly and in all was really tasty 😋. Saw another table had ordered fish and chips, and I did get food envy it was huge and the battery looked so crispy and fresh. Only gripe is that they need to invest in some sharp knives , even cutting potatoes was hard work which then made the meat appear tough when in reality it just needed a sharp knife to cut it as it was thickly sliced. I appreciate a roast dinner is hit and miss according to the time of day you book (earlier is always better) and how busy the food orders are. I'm looking forward to the next roast and think this could become a regular visit, especially with everything they have on during the week , from open mic nights to pub quizes 😀

Overall this pub is cold, lifeless and in need of some good old sprucing. The fire is never lit, the candles are never lit, the furniture is old and scrappy… To top it all off drinks were served by an older, grey haired man with attitude. This afternoon I asked if I could light the fire and he said yes but he doesn’t have a lighter. So I went round the pub and asked anyone if they might have a lighter. To then the grumpy rude man shouted at me saying “that’s my place to ask!!!” Everyone was shocked at the way he so spoke to me… We were about to buy another few rounds of drinks but after experiencing appalling customer service from him we left…

Very disappointed lunch today. I ordered tuna sandwich. It looked like it was bought in the local Asda with a bit of garnish and chips on side. The tuna filling was very salty. I was expecting a bit more for £9. The fish and chips were not good either. Fish wasn’t the freshest and 1/2 of it was left on the plate. Again price wise it wasn’t thf cheeper meal £15 per portion. In retrospect we regretted not returning food back and not asking for our money. We will not go back there and also we would not recommend the place.

2 out of 4 toilets with no loo roll at 5pm on a quiet Saturday. One cubicle didn't even have a toilet roll holder, and no toilet roll anywhere inside. Glasses left on the floor and on the sides of the bathroom. Toilets clearly don't get checked regularly - they can't be checked daily, else there would have been toilet roll. Toilet roll and rubbish all over the floor. There were at least 3 members of staff on, including a bloke who just leaned against the bar on his phone and speaking in a poor tone to the staff. They didn't have lime cordial, so charged £2.50 for just soda water! Queried it and was told soda water was expensive to buy in. Not from my experience of working 6 years in a pub. They should review their pricing/change suppliers if soda is so extortionate to buy in from their current one. Beer was OK priced however considering the location. Very dimly lit inside. Perhaps a few bulbs need replacing. Made a nice summer's day feel very gloomy.

The staff member I dealt with didn’t know how to put a drink together, had to talk her though it (it needed ice and a glass 🤷‍♂️) low on ice ended up with half a glass of water not ice , Care or training ? Furnitures has seen better days plastic sofas in side dark and dingy seems a bit sticky unfortunately needs a brighten up, out side furniture at end of life, the planters are falling to bits with dead plants a good judge on the whats it’s life is like here. The men’s toilets were over flowing with sh*t truly disgusting! It’s a real shame as this boozer used to be buzzing at the weekend it’s a fantastic location over looking the boats could really be something of note. The customers were discussing between them that an ex staff had been sacked due to goings on with the cleaners for not not nice reasons!! Maybe the management should be more discreet. Cant see this boozer lasting unless it has an injection on money and staff training.

Staff pleasant, environment average. Beer choice, limited. Food quality poor. A casual Saturday lunch: three small dishes for £25 -- not cheap and not good -- hummus and flatbread, nachos and "southern fried chicken" pieces. The hummus was OK, but the flatbread was soft and bland. Now it gets exciting: the nachos' cheese wasn't properly melted and it was slathered with two rather gross ~sauces: some gooey green gunk that might have been intended as a guacamole, and an equally cheap and nasty "salsa". Finally, the chicken: barely cooked and very oily and not that much of it. Half the nachos went untouched (when does that ever happen to nachos?); the chicken I "drained". The hummus gave the flatbread something to do. I might drink there, but I wouldn't eat there again.

Kitchen was temporarily closed for a couple of hours due to there only being one chef working. When we finally did order we paid for two nut roasts and received two vegan pies. When we questioned it we were told, "Ah sorry you should have been told we didn't have any nut roasts left". Not really an excuse. We'd waited so long for the kitchen to re-open and were so hungry by that point that we ate it, but it certainly wasn't what we wanted and had we been informed when ordering we would have ventured elsewhere. The roast itself was fine, the pies were clearly just bought in frozen and then reheated, and the cauliflower cheese is some of the worst I've ever had. The service was nice and friendly and sitting by the water in the sun was lovely, but they really should warn people if they've run out of something instead of just serving up something else.

MY FAVOURITE PUB IN BRIGHTON (by non-pub person) 1) Food – typical English menu, similar to the many other pubs. Nothing negative nor spectacular really, so basically it is definitely not the food that attracts me to this place. 2) Customer service – that is a huge advantage of that place. Whoever is on the shift, always pleasant to deal with, easy going, helpful, talkative, bonding. 3) Interior – I love every inch of that place in terms of space, comfort, red-brick traditional design, Brighton Marina location under the cliffs, next to Yachts and Live Music of course. 4) Price – similar range to a many other pubs. Nothing surprising here.

We didn’t receive a warm response so we paid full price for another bottle (making sure we tasted it this time). The cauliflower cheese was fluorescent in colour and the food was cold when we received it. Nobody knew what they were doing and half of the tables weren’t cleared even tho lots of staff were working there and it wasn’t busy. A total shame as the venue over looks the water and allows dogs. I was about to move a 3-person table out to fit more chairs around (there were 5 of us). The barman came over and aggressively said, "Don't touch my f**king tables." It turns out he thought we were there to watch the England game (which was in 2 hours) and was worried about space. When we explained we weren't there for the game, so he said we could sit anywhere. My Husband spent time at her majesty's pleasure and swears the food was 10 times better then here .there was 10 of us and all our roast dinners was truly awful, lamb was undercooked if not raw and the roast chicken looked anaemic , we will never return

My daughter has been going to this restaurant and has had lovely lunches, she lives at the marina and has always been so pleased. Today was awful, I ordered the fish finger sandwich and she ordered the chicken and bacon sandwich after an hour of...

Nice venue and location. Plentiful parking at the Marina. Event catering was good; basic buffet but done quite well.

A good sized pub, although when we went there weren't many punters, which seemed odd for a Friday evening. There was, however, a karaoke which was loud and used by a small party of people! Still, the bar service was pleasant and timely and the place was clean!

We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. The atmosphere was a tiny bit dead but the food and service was very good. We both had fish and chips, the fish portion was huge and incredibly fresh. Mushy peas were nice and minty. We were quite impressed for a local pub. Worth a stop if you are in the marina!

Unfortunately this pub is far too expensive for me. Food poor and pub always empty and uninviting

Very nice venue, welcoming and really friendly staff, good pub grub fairly priced. I would have given them 5 stars, but the fact that they have a cocktail list but then turns out they haven't got the faintest idea of how to make one (but will still charge £8 for a beverage that doesn't look or taste like cocktail you ordered) made me take one star off. Sorry, I try to be as impartial as posible and write my experience as it was. I would definitely go back. But I'll stick to wine next time!

Nice quiet pub just off the main square. Unfortunately their beer prices are now expensive - menu selection is reasonable but again prices high. Great shame.

Had some issues with my order being forgotten; but the staff were brilliant in sorting it and got me a complimentary drink whilst I was waiting. Very tasty pizza and it was huge!

We'd popped into the Post & Telegraph around lunchtime just to have a coffee and saw a couple of diners eating steaks. They confirmed they were excellent so we decided we'd come back in the evening to eat there, which we did as it was Steak Club (Tuesday) night. Yes, the steaks were really good, the best we've eaten for a long time and I would definitely come back here on a Tuesday! Although the pub gets quite busy, we easily found a table and I was served quickly at the bar.

Can't believe I've not been here sooner... from the outside you may not be drawn in but the stories of its greatness are filtering across the city. £3 a pint for some good hand pull ales. A fine selection of hot dogs, beautifully prepared and brimming with taste and all for a super value price. Nice surroundings, great music, chatty bar staff, live bluegrass on Monday evenings. What's not to like...?! You must try this place, it deserves to be busier that's all that let's it down.

Great pub that lets you take dohs in. Food isn't bad at all and a good selection of beers. Love a Nicholsons pub!
