Came over from Portsmouth for a little holiday, stayed locally, and had a lovely meal and drinks, great service from the bar staff and our waitress sophie looked after us through our stay! Would come back again.

Went there today for a carvery… well the guy serving me was very rude. I asked if there was new beef coming out and he was very smug telling me that the beef was fine and gave me the dry end bit. Hardly any veg, I paid for pigs in blankets and had to wait 20 mins for them to come out. Had to keep walking backwards and forwards to ask how long and no1 could give me a straight answer! Then I ordered a bottomless Sundae for my 4 year old, the machine was out of order so we had to order at the table. I asked two different members of staff about the sprinkles and sauces, and I was told it would come ready done. It turned up with just a glass of plain ice cream, no sprinkles no sauce. So I asked the lady who brought it, and she said oh I’ll make sure there are sprinkles. So I waited…. And waited…. And no1 came back. So I went up to the station and no sprinkles available, only a dispenser with smarties you had to pay 50p for. So I asked someone AGAIN! And I was told people take them to the table, I said well I was told it would come ready done! My daughter is getting distressed because she wants her ice cream!… The lady finally brought me some sprinkles and by the time I got them the ice cream was melting everywhere. Why not bring them to the table with the ice cream!!!!! So much hassle that could have been avoided!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a fantastic experience at Sportsman Stone House. Our waitress Sophie was absolutely brilliant—friendly, attentive, and wonderfully kind to my kids. Her warm, personal service really made our visit special. I highly recommend this pub for a great atmosphere and excellent service.

Very good place, carvery can fill you up. Now carvery has reduced choice. Free parking and cheap never ending ice creams!

We popped in for a carvery at Withdean and it was delicious. The guy behind the bar was very welcoming and the two chefs were so lovely. They had run low on cauliflower cheese, so as soon as it was ready, one of the chefs brought over a big bowl of it to our table. Excellent customer service

Met up with an old friend at the sportsman and had the 5 starters deal everything cooked well, hot and delicious especially the hand made garlic flat bread had a good banter with Paul and Lou the managers Great time great food great service 5 stars

I recently visited Stonehouse with a group of friends for a carvery, and I have to say, Sophie’s service was outstanding! From the moment we arrived, she made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic experience. Sophie was attentive, friendly, and incredibly efficient, even though the restaurant was busy. She took the time to check in on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and was so cheerful throughout—it really made the meal even more enjoyable. The food was delicious, as always, but it was Sophie’s excellent service that truly stood out. She’s an absolute credit to the team. We’ll definitely be returning and recommending Stonehouse to others. Thank you, Sophie, for making our visit so special!

Really good coffee. There is a sign as you go in asking you to wait to be seated. We waited over 5 minutes and then the lady behind the bar told us to sit wherever we liked. We moved from the original seat because it was really cold. I had the carvery, it was ok, nothing special, my husband had a burger, he said that was nice. Free parking outside for 3 hours

Everything was good the surprise is the PARKING CHARGE NOTICE to pay £100 or £60 on 08-01-25 now I pay but I think to go again with family or friends .Im Brazilian journalist and write reviews on Google. Last Sunday we try to book online and was so busy . I went in to Pub and we book for 4.30 pm. I delivery driver for Uber and deliveroo so I know the staff very friendly. I take my daughter Sarah and her Husband doctor Nicoló and my wife and my other daughter. I went after 4 to watch football from Liverpool and Manchester early and drink beer. After my family 4.30 join me to have dinner. Thanks for Jordan and all staff that was very friendly.

We enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch at The Sportsman. Ver kind staff. The meat was excellent, perfectly cooked by Wesley. So was was the potatoes and veg. Would highly recommend.

Easy access. It seems like a poorer version of a Toby(same group). The carvery was OK but the food was not hot and some of it seemed not cooked. You place your order at the bar for everything, waiter/waitress service was minimal. The dessert was lovely. Opted for what they call a Chouxnut. Best part!

The carvery was all dry. Half of the parties food came out 45 minutes after the rest of us. We couldn't add on pudding to the kids meals after payment so had to pay full price for those. No one cleared our table between courses. There were no apologies for the food being so delayed. The kids were so hungry that they were picking food off of those that had the carvery. The ice cream machine wasn't working for bottomless ice cream. We took the kids into the garden whilst we waited for food as it took so long, which was like a wasteland and my brother in law stepped in poo.

Waited 20 minutes for a mug to make tea. Breakfast was awful. Bacon and eggs were tough and looked like they had been sat there for ages. Nothing was fresh. Ran out of mushrooms. Beans were mostly sauce. Fried bread was overcooked. Wouldn’t recommend

During our recent visit to Stonehouse Carvery, we were very impressed, thanks to both the food and the impeccable service provided by Kaylie. The roast meats were undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. The pigs in blankets were another standout. The red cabbage was also pleasant surprise Adding to the experience was Kaylie's outstanding service. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure our visit was nothing short of perfect. Her warm demeanour and genuine enthusiasm made us feel truly welcome, turning an already excellent meal into a memorable occasion. Thank you, Kaylie, and to all the staff at Stonehouse Carvery.

15th December 2024, was a remarkable service and experience for my family and friends. Excellent communication and understanding from the manager Paul and his staff in withdean... I have personal struggles with organisation, a clear communication was made and attended to to the best of the teams abilities to help our diverse group several Neurodevelopemental differences ... so appreciated thank you all xxx

If you want a nice friendly place to have a carvery meal , STAY AWAY. The staff are rude and spend most of their time swearing, they are unhelpful and have never heard of customer service. We ordered with the on table app , after 20 minutes I managed to ask a member of staff were our drinks were and the tickets for the Carvery. Her reply was go to the bar. When we finally got to the carvery , the 2 chefs did not have a clue how carve a slice of meat. They were more interested in complaining what a long day they had had , starting at 1200 , we visited about 1800 , not that long in the catering industry. The portion of meat was paper thin and small that a credit card , vegetables were cold , we had to wait over 10 minutes for roast potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings. We have been to other Stonehouse carvery's in the past and they have been wonderful

Stay away , if you want a decent Carvery meal.

The service was great, Kaylie was lovely and very friendly. Bacon and hash browns ran out but we did arrive at 11 so not really surprising .

We popped in on Friday evening. Very lovely warm welcome from Jonathan. They had a good selection of beers and ipas. We both had the carvery and our son had a burger. Exceptionally good carvery. All piping hot veg and sides and delicious gammon. The young man serving the carvery was helpful too. We were all very pleasantly full up with the generous portions. Great value for money and a good clean pub.

7 of us ordered a roast, 1 ordered a sandwhich. Ordered through the app which was a slow process as still had to wait for the tickets to be brought to our table, its much easier to order the old way directly from the bar, saves a pointless trip for bar staff. Gammon and beef were lovely. Nice portions, cauliflour cheese was lacking cheese but it all still tasted good. Wes who served us was very friendly and brought over our pigs in blankets as soon as they were ready so lovely and hot. Sandwhich took a while to be served and plates wernt cleared from the tables promptly but we still had a nice lunch

Staff miserable, went there for breakfast, however will not again. Trays of food not full, food dry and sone of it looked as if it had been there fir a long time. Waited so long for some of it gave up in the end. No bread in the bins provided. Dirty plate and no little plates. Only tea with your food, and you have to pay for coffee. VERY POOR

First time we've visited the sportsman and what a delight, staff helpful but Chef Mick was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! so so helpful at every step. So much so that we couldn't finish our food so he kindly got some takeaway boxes and even made sure that I was able to have the cauliflower cheese that wasn't ready when I first plated. His motto seemed to be treat everyone with respect, kindness, and to make sure you enejoyed you experience .I will definitely be returning . Thank you so much to the staff kaylie and Jordan but especially Mick who made us feel welcome and appreciated as customers

Lunch with a friend at the carvery was a great surprise. Much improved since our last visit when it all seemed to be going downhill. Luke warm dry meats and soft overcooked veggies. BUT TODAY... WOW! New management and kitchen staff retrained. Excellent succulent meats, crispy toasties and bigger choice of properly cooked veggies. Well done! We'll definitely be returning. Very friendly, polite staff too. Just a suggestion...little wooden toothpicks on the table would be a welcome extra! Also, perhaps some roasted parsnips...tis the season. Yum 😋

Absolutely first class. The improvement is amazing. Wesley the manager has turned the carvery around, big portions, lovely fresh vegetables, all perfectly cooked. Jordan who I think is the bar manger was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the Sportsman if you want a beautiful dinner in nice surroundings.

Our main courses sat under heat lamps, in the restaurant area, for ages. We were obviously expecting them to be brought over as it wasn't self service. I went and got another drink, and when back at the table, the food was still sitting, drying out, under the lamps. I eventually went to get them myself when a reluctant looking member of staff then started taking them to the table, with no apology. Also, most deserts were unavailable as they had no ice cream.

Had carvery, meat was great and most other accompaniments, but the cauliflower cheese had no cheese, was not very nice. I personally prefer the saltdean Stonehouse but if you like a cheap carvery, this would be fine. Staff as usual are great.

This is the 2nd time I have visited when almost all of the food had run out- no beef, no Yorkshire puddings, no mashed potato, no cauliflower, no pigs in blankets. The roast potatoes were so hard that you couldn’t cut some of them. This meant having to wait for that to be cooked and brought up meaning the rest of the food going cold. In addition, the turkey was so dry it was inedible unless smothered in gravy- my daughter had to spit it out because she was chewing it so long it made her gag. I appreciate you get what you pay for with a carvery but this was bad

The carvery was absolutely awful. everything was dry and rock hard. Never going back.
