I didn't like the meat of the carvery or the salad buffet. One of the employees (a waitress) wasn't polite or welcoming.

come in for lunch with my mum was greeted by Sean at the bar who served us and waited on by Kaylie :) both so helpful and welcoming. Very polite staff as well as kitchen staff. Great team here will defo be coming back thankyou :)

Reasonable prices but food was cold, no salt on table and not enough staff. Stuffing was dry and crumbly and at end of bowl but no one available to ask for refill, beef was tasty but fatty and the vegetables were over cooked and bland. The only food item that was hot was the roast potatoes but they tasted like they had been reheated. This is not the first time we have had this experience and we have visited twice before at different times and it has been the same. We decided to give it one last try as it is priced well and there are not many alternative venues locally. Not sure if we will return again. Sweet menu is overpriced

Kaylie is a lovely server and kept up topped up and was ready and waiting to take our empty plates. Such a joy and definitely coming back again.

Well where do I start. Upon arriving at the sportsman it was not very busy however not one member of staff acknowledge our arrival which was a bit disconcerting. As a family of six we made our way to the table and sat down. I haven't got a long time to write a full review however here are some bullet points. 1: we sat in a booth and they had some electrical works going on so the light kept getting turned off and on. 2: we had no waiter/waitress come and ask us if we needed anything. 3: when we went to order drinks the bar person kept yawning (although was polite) 4: we could see our food was ready and although the chef kept asking for service no one came so we decided to get our food ourselves which the chef said "I'm sorry this has been the worst lunch service I have experienced" 5: suddenly there was a loud drilling noise that disturbed and you could tell others around us. 6: we had no salt on the table(surly a basic) I went around all the tables close by to find some, eventually I found some on a table where an elderly couple had finished there meal and they were very polite saying they had to search for some themselves. Ironically we had 4 tables approach us to ask if they could borrow the salt from us, this is totally unacceptable. 7: my burger was a "dirty Philly" it was supposed to be topped with pulled pork, bacon cheese,onion rings and hash brown. Sounds nice right however it was missing the onion rings and hash brown, the chips were dry and there was no sight of any kind of garnish or salad. 8: not once we're we asked how the food was. 9: upon leaving not one person acknowledged us nor said thank you, in fact the women I assumed was the manager was head downing her laptop, while the staff were running around obviously oblivious to what was happen around her. We are local to this pub and don't get me wrong have had some food experiences but today has definitely given me second thoughts about going back. Maybe it's a change of management but customer service went out of the window today.

The food is good the service is fine and the atmosphere is pretty good.

I went there for breakfast this morning and I had bacon sandwiches and marmalade waffles (sorry if that sounds weird btw). All of it was amazing!!! That's why it deserves 5 stars!!!

No eggs! Posting this time because it’s happened a few times in the past 10am and no eggs Theres a supermarket not 5 mins away the manager should have gone there and got some to tide them over.

Been to some good Stonehouses. But unfortunately this one was a bit like school dinners back in the 90s. Wouldn’t rush back. Plus the staff are miserable as hell. Such a shame

I had the house buger and cookie sundae and very friendly staff and lovely hot food and I was very impressed by the quality and lovely food and staff I will be back in the future

Normal I love coming here but me and my other half came here today didn’t have much what I ate ordered 2 cokes and didn’t even fill them and then my other half ordered a cheeseburger and end up getting a vegan burger ! Very upset as it was my birthday

Really needs a few low patio heaters on the back patio then more locals would use it all yr around. It's ok for cheap food and a quick drink.. Could do with being a bit cosier in in the drinking area.Breakfast are good.but staff hang around when lots of things could be done. The place is dirty and dusty.

Food is good value for money and if you get the app the kids eat for£1. The stand out for us was the waitress, what a lovely young lady, she couldn’t do enough for us. Alison was her name. Give that girl a pay raise. Thanks for having us and down to Alison we will 100% be back and recommend the sportsman.

Went in quite late, so food was limited. The chef was great, though as we are veggie and there weren't many roasts left, he brought more out and the mash had run out so he offered us some veggie sausages instead and brought them over to the table. 5* service. Thanks

I got served by an outstanding lady named Sophie, her bubbly and overall presence was more then welcoming to a nice atmospheric Olde English style pub with lovely food and reasonably priced drinks highly recommended!

If you want Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings and Roast potatoes, look no further. I won't be returning to spend good money on something I would knock together at short notice when I couldn't be bothered to cook a proper roast. The men in whites carving should not call themselves Chefs when all they have done is microwaved vegetables and heated packet food! The decor has not been upgraded in over 30 years and that was the last time I visited when the meal was outstanding!

Booked a pizza party for a 6 year old. Was brilliant and excellent value for money. The kids were entertained with making their pizzas which they then ate, followed by ice cream. They even provided party bags (we added a few sweets and chocolate bits to them, but they other than that they were great) Was a stress free day

The main course was delicious and food was very fresh. From previous experiences at this Carvery, I know it can be a little bit dry or stale on weekdays when it's less busy but on this Sunday, The beef, cauliflower cheese, sausages, potatoes etc were very good, but particularly the gammon! The rocky road sundae I thought was a bit mid. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure the portion size used to be larger, and this time, it was very creamy. The waiter also seemed a bit unsure as to where to seat us, despite booking the table in advance. After a bit of confusion on the way to the table, we were placed at a table still in need of a wipe down. Service from here on out was great. Beyond this, table behind was a bit noisy (forgivable, particularly on a weekend) and my knife was a little dull. But for the price, the food was great value and I will go again.

Visited here on Tuesday for a carvery with friends. It was amazing, Sophie showed us to our table and helped us with everything we needed. We had an amazing meal and were very pleased with the service.

I came here with 2 of my girlfriends, our server was Sophie! She gave us an amazing warm welcoming and let us pick where we sat. Her smile makes me want to be a returning customer. I definitely recommend the hot honey sauce! Also… the carvery is to die for! Yum yum

Only the barman seems to be working, the rest were nowhere to be seen. My group were repeatedly ignored by the catering staff and the barman had to go into the kitchen to get a so called chef to come out and serve us. When we ordered desert to the table, it took more than 35 mins to arrive, again the barman has to chase it up. He did apologise and offered us a free drink as a guesture of good will.

Came for mother's day, usually go every year but we were all disappointed this time! Food overcooked, all dry, black in the carrots, had to wait ages for a extra dish. Their gluten free range is quite disappointing. Although i enjoyed my strawberries and ice cream! The service was good. Nice guy behind the bar who tried to help with the food. Sophie is a charismatic employee, full of vigor and enthusiasm. A meal here is made more memorable with Sophie's delightful hospitality. Never rude and dedicated to her craft, will one day no doubt be general manager of the entire restaurant.

The food was cold I had a southern chicken sandwich with chips the chicken strips was like warm the bread was dry and the crusts was quite hard chips was cold husband had a gammon and mustard sandwich which was cold and roasties which was like warm son had carvery which was like warm and didn't look nice won't be coming again

Great place especially after a workout. Low key easy going atmosphere, no pretence. Sunday roast one of the best in town. Note there is no large beer garden .

The carvery at the Sportsman has always been of a very high standard. Get there in good time and don't forget the tasty Cranberry on the side. Well done to the staff.

I love a traditional carvery meal and this one really delivered in every way. Superbly cooked and with a good portion of meats and all the vegetables you want! Great!! Sophie was also very helpful and courteous. 😃

Served by Sophie this evening who did a great job of looking after us. The food continues to improve and tonight's beef was melt in the mouth. A 50 year old birthday celebration done and dusted.

Unclean, dust and big cobwebs every where, toilets dirty and smelly, makes you wonder how clean the kitchen is, they need to up there house keeping. ☹

Had a family get together there. Food was good and reasonably priced. Service was prompt and friendly. We ate from menu on this occasion but have enjoyed carveries on many visits. Well worth a visit.

Come this morning alone, lots of parking, breakfast was nicely cooked gutted no tomatoes, also had veggie sausages- but definitely worth the price I paid

We visit here frequently but our recent visit wasn’t up to their usual standards. The chef appeared to struggle cutting the meat and the vegetables weren’t very hot and needed replenishing. At least the gravy was hot. Hopefully it’ll be improved by the time we next visit. I would like to compliment the waitress, Kaylie, who was very helpful and friendly.

Sophie is a wonderful bartender! Such a joy every time! Love this place. The best after a climb when all you need is a beer!

She is a real asset to the Stonehouse team and management are really lucky to have such enthusiastic staff members. Reasonably priced and a good atmosphere. Would return.

We were served by Kaylie, she was very hard working, friendly and efficient. The food here is always fresh and of excellent quality.

Upon arrival to the bar, we were told that it was closing in ten minutes so we needed to rest and drink up quickly. The reason was that there hadn’t been any customers for the previous hour. I wasn’t allowed to order a pint but only a half. We were told to book for a drink ahead of arrival. However after some twenty minutes after sitting down, new customers were served pints and other drinks. As regulars on a Tuesday evening we are used to a mixed level of service but last night was unacceptable. Our choir hires the adjacent building and we attend the bar afterwards every Tuesday. We always pop in and spend about £20 or so, depending on who joins us regulars for a drink.

Very poor service had traditional dinner the meat was very thinly cut only had two meats gammon and beef they were both thinly cut and only one slice the dinner was cold no veg only mash with tomato and one mash with cheese peas were cold As we were leaving I asked the customer on the next table and they said dinner was not hot her husband's pizza was not cooked properly would not recommend this place very poor
