Over one hour wait for food and service was horrible. Although the food was lovely once it finally arrived, cutlery was forgotten about and then was full of water marks and bits of food. When we told the waiter, he said “it’s just water marks”. Yes i know what it is but they shouldn’t be there. Glasses were also filthy. Wouldn’t recommend as plenty other nice places nearby.

Decent hotel but don't expect a quaint quiet one. The Vaults Bar directly underneath the rooms is lively and loud, first bit of silence was at 130am. It is also the last part of the road for cars to turn before entering the small one way high street, this lead to it being a taxi/pick up spot for every pub in town, again extremely noisy late at night. No reception either, so check in or any issues, you need to queue up at the Vaults Bar (for us a busy Saturday night). Rooms were nice and the staff were friendly.

My friend and I were staying just behind this historic Hotel and came in for dinner. We were welcomed by Jo the Manager who asked us to wait in the bar so they could sanitize our table. Paul made sure we were looked after for drinks while we waited and we had a lovely chat. Dannie served us our food and she was equally as friendly. I had mussels in cream and white wine to start which were cooked perfectly and my friend had a Prawn Cocktail with lots of prawns. I then had a fish pie which was lovely and creamy and my friend had a fillet steak. Our compliments to John the chef! We enjoyed our food and had a chat with Jo about the town and surrounding areas. All round a safe and enjoyable evening. To top it all they were still doing up to £10 discount per person even though the government offer had finished so we got a £20 discount we were not expected

Two of us are here for lunch on a Thursday. We wanted to be seated outside and we were shown to a table in the back courtyard. We felt very Covid secure as there was hand sanitiser by the door, the staff wore face masks and the tables were a suitable distance from each other. The staff were very friendly and seemed happy in their work. We had the Ultimate Ploughman's Sharing Platter, which was absolutely delicious. There were homemade pickles shallots, balsamic cooked onions and a homemade pork pie which were all gorgeous. There was also bread, cheese, apple, celery and hand carved ham which were all lovely. We will certainly be back.

A lovely setting but the menu was very small with little choice, just your usual basics. The food was hot but not inspiring and not enjoyable as there was nothing on the menu that I really fancied. Would have liked a salad but not available so ended up ordering fish and chips, served with very runny mushy peas nd a wedge of lemon, not what I would have expected for the price, had better from a takeaway.

Toilets and corridor leading to it have a horrendous sewage smell which has been there for many years. One of the two toilet cubicles has no lock. The most disturbing thing was a sharps tub next to the sink in the ladies toilets. I can’t think of a good reason why it would be there?

Cannot remember the last time I was unable to finish a meal. Service was terribly slow, the casserole from the specials board was genuinely not edible. The meat was impossible to chew down to anything reasonable to swallow and the mash potato was as lumpy as my old Rover P6. To top it off, I waited for 25 minutes after we finished to speak to the staff and nobody came over (I think they know how poor the food is). All in all, a terrible end to a lovely day.

STayed one night whilst working in Milton Keynes. Stony Stratford is a nice characterful village 10min drive from the centre of Milton Keynes. I had a room on the top floor (note - no lift) which was very comfortable and clean. It was artfully decorated with a modern bathroom. Point to note - there is a church opposite with a clock that chimes on the quarter hour at all times of the day and night. Continental breakfast provided and ample off road parking. Restaurant not open on the night I stayed but there are plenty of eating options in Stony Stratford. NIce bar in hotel showing football on Champions League night.

We arrived at this pub and parked in the old barn out the back and got checked in quickly without issue. The Bull has several tables for eating then a separate room with a couple of sofas in which we sat on and had a few drinks. When you order ales the barman has to go into The Vaults bar next door to get them. The Vaults is part of the Bull hotel I believe and is a small but fairly busy sort of pub with sports on TV and a lot of locals round the bar. The seletion of ales is good.

We didn't stay at The Bull, just had lunch here on a bit of a whim as we passed through town. We will be back! The food was typical pub food but much higher quality and better value than in most places. My husband had a burger which was packed with flavour and obviously came from a decent butcher. I had the cajun chicken which was a proper butterflied chicken breast, beautifully succulent and tasty with spices. It came with good homemade coleslaw, big crispy chips and our side of onion rings were some of the nicest, lightest ones I've had and homemade, not out the freezer. The bar area is quirky and attractive and our waitress was really pleasant. Overall we were extremely impressed and we look forward to returning.

I had the misfortune of staying here. Upon arrival there were no staff at reception. The car park was littered with rubbish and broken bottles. Two of my first choices of fish on the menu were unavailable and the tuna I was served up was poorly prepared. The wifi was an "unsecured network" so would not permit me to connect without security risk. The secured network was unfortunately not available for guests only being for the general manager get who was not there? I wasted an evening when I could have been catching up on work. My room was a disgrace. It was freezing cold and was musty. The bathroom stank. The shower had a brown stain and dead moths in it. The shower also did not work switching itself between hot and cold whilst running. The top of the tiling at waist height was also very dirty with dead insects and a layer of dust. The bedroom wallls were filthy and damaged. The bedside light had no bulb. The bed also had hairs in it. I was too annoyed and tired to complain and the staff were obviously not engaged enough to register the situation. To top this off the scrambled egg served at breakfast had the consistency of curdled or reconstituted egg. Despite having a reservation for longer I checked out after one night.

Lovely 12 bedroom hotel, when we arrived we were greeted by the manager & barman who were both friendly & helpful, the manager explained that our room overlooked the courtyard and the Vault Bar next door which would probably be noisy late on, he did offer to move our room (we stayed put). The room was a double en suite not the most spacious of rooms but we were only using it for somewhere to freshen up & sleep, but it was clean and had drink facilities, hairdryer, safe & toiletries. The bed was really comfortable and the noise wasn't that bad (for a Saturday night) we ate in the hotel restaurant and although they were extremely busy with a function the service was fantastic and the meal was brilliant I had garlic mushrooms, then Steak followed by cheesecake I was not disappointed with this meal.

Arriving and looking from the outside, looks oldie worldie wanna get inside. Bar and restaurant area is well decorated, though on, not to closer inspect, ceiling has water damage. Bear with.Bedroom, was at first impression, well decorated, smallish but ok. The Toilet and shower were adjacent to the room again, 1st impressions were good. Now spend some time and relax, mose around and then things ain't looking so fine. Shower cubicle, the door was hanging off one of the wheels so it didn't shut properly. You shower to keep it away from the door, but it doesn't matter because the shower tray has gaps around it, where it hasn't been sealed properly. Hence stains on ceiling in bar area. Windows were filthy on the inside which the wife picked up straight away. Believe me, we have lived in worse, but expect a certain standard if you are paying good money. Then there are the Church Bells that continue to chime throughout the night till 6.30am.Bed: worn, kept on rolling to the middle, nearly suffocated the wife. There is a kettle and the usual complimentary tea coffee milk (though only one real tea bag) can live with that.An iron and board, safe and strangely, a fan (it was about 2 degrees outside) fan not needed. We can all pick holes, but on reflection, worth about £60 per night for 2 with breakfast. Location and area love it, old and full of stories.

Wandered into The Bull at Stony Stratford with an old friend on sunny autumn day and it could, almost, have been 1915 not 2015. I say 'almost' because we were greeted with a slightly odd announcement that the till wasn't working. I don't think I have ever had that as a first line before but it was delivered with feeling and expression by the young gentleman in charge of affairs at the time.Having established that payment could still somehow be made we took our seats and perused a decent and inexpensive menu. As much as the content of the menu might have impressed, I was particularly taken by the excellent cover thing that contained it. So often otherwise excellent descriptions of what's on offer can become quite unpleasant to handle or look at by virtue of age or being chucked around or frequently needing to be fiddled with for some reason. This one had a really solid wood-like cover and felt great.Inside the list had something for everyone and we choose a pretty traditional and satisfyingly fattening sausages and mash and baked potato with chilli con carne. The seats were comfortable which was just as well as the food did take a while. We weren't bothered, though, and I was quite relieved not to be continually asked whether we wanted 'anything else' or drinks as can often be the case in some places.Basically we were left in peace apart from delivery of said items and a bill somewhat later. People came and went as we chatted and there seemed to be a selection of tourists and local people. One was glued to a laptop for most of the time and looked a bit incongruous amongst the curtains and tablecloths. None of the decorations, incidentally, matched anything else, in a style reminiscent of the early 1970s with substantial patterns glaring at us from all directions.I was particularly worried by the swirly grey and gold wallpaper adorning a stairway and felt some sympathy for residents who might need to descend from their rooms that way before being fully awake and without any alcohol to deaden the senses.None of this, however, detracted from the copious amounts of potato, sausage and carne. I might have appreciated rather more by way of chilli in the aforesaid con carne but it was still reasonably tasty. The sausages had that random appearance of locally made rather than bulk manufacture and an excellent flavour. Three in total, too, making a hearty lunch even without the mash. My baked potato lacked the crispy skin that I feel baked potatoes ought to have. and generally the huge potato did seem to have been somewhat swamped by the chilli. Amusingly, I was presented with two wrapped squares of butter with the meal. I am not quite sure how I was supposed to apply them - putting butter on top of chilli is not really on, folks.Full marks to the staff we encountered there and I am more than happy to commend a visit for food and beverage. You step back into the traffic outside and feel as you've been away for ages!

I stayed here for business purposes on 13th and 14th of July.I was in the Stateroom. This is a lovely hotel, full of history and quite clearly recently renovated. The hotel and bar share the same parking facilities and you actually check in at a table under the stairs in the bar, all convenient and very quick. The room I had was big, well appointed and just lovely. The bed was fantastically comfortable and the original windows provided just the right amount of ventilation.Toiletries and tea/coffee tray were well appointed and the tv worked. The toilet and shower room was well set-out and modern. So... why haven't I given it 5/5:The bin in the bathroom hadn't been emptied from the previous guest - not normally too much of an issue - but based on what was in there, completely unacceptable! Obviously an oversight as it was clean on the second night.I would stay again.

I should start by stating that I have spent a significant amount of time at the Bull, or more specifically the Vaults, about a decade ago. It was always my favourite pub on Stony High Street, so when passing through with my family we decided to stop for a spot of lunch in the main restaurant. On entrance it all looked good, the refurbishment since my last visit was tasteful and well considered. Things took a slight dip when we found the highchairs to be somewhat grubby, as well as the tables. Never mind though, so we ordered. My wife had a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, which was only just over the line of 'cooked' and if asked to guess we would say it was microwaved. My sausage and onion toasted sandwich firstly turned up on the wrong bread, and when this was resolved the sausages were also approaching undercooked. No matter though, as they simply couldn't be tasted over the pungent yet one dimensional onion dressing. Lastly the cheese roll we got for the little one was almost certainly a shop bought roll with a chunk of cheep cheddar, whilst the chips tasted like they had never seen a potato, let alone been one.The final straw came when we asked about baby changing facilities, and were directed to a mat on the women's toilet floor, flanked by a sanitary bin as well as a waste paper basket. Let alone the idea the frankly mediaeval attitude that only a woman would change the nappy, this is simply disgusting. The Bull could hardly claim to not be a place for small children, providing high chairs as they do, yet we couldn't have felt less welcome if they had tried. The bar staff seemed a nice pair of lads, yet management couldn't have cared less about what we said and spoke to staff to relay what he said rather than speak to us (about a yard distant...). Looking around at this point, the signs of poor maintenance and management were evident with damp stains on the ceiling.Overall the visit was a real dissappointment, and really soured the trip back from our holidays. Whilst I hope the vaults is still as good as ever, I cannot overstate just how poor an experience we had on a high street with lots of competition. Would really recommend avoiding, particularly if you have kids.

My daughter took me and her foster sister here for Sunday lunch today, and although we arrived 30 minutes late for our reservation, the staff couldn't have been kinder. Although the menu isn't very large, I feel that in an area abounding with restaurants, hotels and takeaways, any small business hoping to survive with any credibility to providing GOOD food doesn't need an extensive menu. The waitress was very accommodating when 2 of us asked for 'bread and butter' as a starter. They got both white and wholemeal, while I had the very nice pate. Main courses, although a bit slow to arrive (probably as all the veggies were freshly cooked to order),were very generous portions of 2 roast beef lunches, with plenty of fresh, piping hot veg - broccolli, caulieflower, carrots, roast parsnip, and mashed swede, along with the usual roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding. The beef was well marbled and nicely cooked. The 3rd main was ham, eggs and REAL chips cooked to perfection! We were too stuffed to eat desserts, unfortunately, but next time, we won't pig out on the mains so much. All in all, the Bull Hotel meal was a lovely experience in present day 'pub dining', where there's usually too much choice, re-heated from frozen, where we tend to accept mediocre meals, cheaply, as our palates become jaded. My thanks to the wonderful young waitress for her very ubeat service, and kind acceptance of our tardiness.

The other had a Prawn Cocktail to start..tasteless tiny prawns served on a bed of 'mixed leaves' (sadly no crispy lettuce) with a non-descript Rose-Marie sauce and accompanied by a slice of bread, very dry on one side, with a still wrapped pat of fridge-cold butter plopped on top. Main was Fish and Chips...tasteless fish...just overall not very good.

We dined at The Bull on Thursday evening the bar/restaurant was busy with diners and those having a drink. Our waitress was Kylie she is a great asset to the Bull, friendly, efficient and very customer focused. We had seafood starters followed by one of the best steaks we have enjoyed in sometime. If we are in the area we will revisit for sure.We can recommend this location for excellent food and service

Don't expect anything like fine dining: this is bog-standard basic pub food. Quite acceptable but nothing to rave about. Service was friendly, though we had to ask for cutlery. Possibly the best thing about the Bull is their fantastic Stable Bar with a great range of real ales, frequented by real ale drinking locals of a certain age (definitely not a kids bar). The waiter was quite happy to bring us a couple of pints over to the restaurant to have with our meal.

Groupon voucher not as described, tried to book a table and there is no time after 4.30pm in the next few months, not as described and looking at previous reviews its not good. Tried calling and was told they would contact Groupon and check the booking times and call me back but nothing, will try getting a refund before more disappointment beware!!!!

We tried to book for a groupon on Sunday evening to be told they did not serve food. (Although it was advertised as such) ended up with 4pm. Groupon was for 3 course a la carte but we were given a set menu with 3 choices. Groupon stated mains up to value of £12.95 but all offered were £8.95. One of the party was vegetarian and was given option of veggie sausages. Had to ask for gravy then there was a long wait and food went cold so had to ask to get it reheated. No apologies. Had to ask for wine that was included in offer. Asked for glass of water and was given glass with lipstick marks. Asked for replacement and was grudgingly given another warm glass. Asked for a cold one which was given even more grudgingly. Poor service. Would not recommend. No food doing a Geoupon to attract customers then make false statements and shortcuts on food. Shall be reporting same to Groupon.

Myself and my wife met for lunch and both had a hot sandwich each and a bowl of chips. They both came out piping hot, I had a sausage and marmalade sandwich and my wife had the tuna melt. Both came out with a salad garnish. The chips were chunky chips and were well cooked. It was a very nice lunch and most surprised at how nice it was having never been there before for food.

Before I begin I should say that the waitresses tried their best and were very friendly and helpful, if a little haphazard.A party of us had Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago and arrived to a fairly busy restaurant. After eventually being acknowledged as being present we were shown to our table and waited, and waited. We weren't asked for a drinks order so went to the bar instead. After another wait our food order was taken - all but one had the pate to start, and we all had one of the three roast options on offer. The mains were just about acceptable but we've had better for the cost of £8.95.The deserts were average to quite poor. I haven't mentioned the starters because of the very unpleasant after effects all those who ate it suffered. Everyone had an awful stomach upset with the symptoms lasting through to the following day. A couple of us were going to contact the hotel but in the end didn't bother. Needless to say we will not return and do not recommend others try it.

We came here at 1 o'clock as we were given lunch as a present. We would not come again, The waitresses were disorganised - we were asked by 2 different waitresses if we were ready to order after our initial order was taken and the same 3 waitresses came to take our dessert order. The plates were cold so the vegetables were cold. When this was pointed out no interest was taken in remedying the situation. The cook brought in the starters although the bar was not busy. We had factory made pate and frozen breaded mushrooms to start and the roast dinner which was not the best cut of meat, the potatoes were burnt on one side and not crispy on the other. Dessert was a choice of chocolate cake, something called chocolate fondant and orange cheesecake. It seems to me that someone needs to take charge of the staff.

Visited The Bull Hotel restaurant for Sunday lunch using a Groupon voucher. Initially surprised by the friendly reception we received by the staff which continued all through the time we spent there. Three courses we had were of excellent quality followed by coffee. A relaxed atmosphere added to a very enjoyable meal. Well done.

A large number of family, including my family, had stayed at the adjacent Cock Hotel - that's a separate review! Met up with a long lost friend and had coffee and sandwiches at lunchtime at The Bull. I have to say that the staff here were incredibly welcoming and friendly - compared to their counter-part next door. Several members of my family had also spent Boxing Night in the Bull accommodation and had no complaints whatsoever - note to self to try this hotel next time! The decor and ambience seems far brighter than 'next door' but unfortunately I can only go by my family saying that they were perfectly happy with the accommodation and breakfast the following morning. Ample parking to the rear, easy access to Milton Keynes. From what I saw, and heard from my family - would certainly recommend.

Poor service from moment we arrived, being told they had crammed loads more people in this year and they hoped it goes well was not what customers what to hear. No where to have drink before being seated for lunch as tables crammed into bar area to make numbers, nowhere to hang coats apart from back of chair, last year it was special as down in barn area. Special dietary instructions ignored, main served without veg for over 5mins, were not going to offer cheese course, forgot our mince pies with our tea/coffee course had to ask if something was missing...special day tarnished. There are much better places to eat on Christmas day we won't be returning to the Bull for any further meals.

Stopped by for a light lunch and chose the fish cake. It was greasy, and the batter was hard and overcooked, as though it had been kept warm for a long time. Service was slow. Altogether, disappointing.

Absolutely terrible, really! This was supposed to be a night out for my wife and myself, celebrating our 20th anniversary, and trying to do our best for local businesses. Never again. The service was non-existent, the food awful, and the ambiance absent. In the end we cut our losses and left, given that, by this time, dessert seemed but a distant dream as the bar was packed, and would probably have been as dry and unappetising as the main course. The waiter we spoke to seemed like he was aware of the problem but there were no apologies. We were not the only people having problems.I will be taking this up with the management as it was such an awful experience. For now, bottom line - don't bother. Did I make it clear I was disappointed?

Stayed here for just one night. We had a meal in the bar on arrival, quite late and we were probably the last meal served. Food was good and service was quick. The bed room was really comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. Breakfast next morning was very slow. It took over half an hour to serve us. When it came it was very tasty.

Called in here for an unplanned evening meal for four. Generally OK but ranked average as the meals were OK but staff were clearly overstretched, possibly because they seem to gear up for wedding parties rather than passing trade.Menu is reasonable and actually very tasty and we had four tasty meals.Another restaurant where a small amount of effort from the manager would make a world of difference. Beer was good so worth risking it for a pub meal but avoid if you are on that romantic or special night out!!!p.s. the most interesting thing was the back of the menu which explains how this is one half of the 'Cock and Bull Story'.

I'll start with the positive..... I laughed so much during the course of the evening that my face hurt! Our waiter was new (I hope) and didn't have a clue what he was doing. He was almost laughing at himself by the end of the night because he knew how useless he was. There are too many things to write down but the funniest was that one of our party didn't get their main course and when we asked where it was the waiter replied "I wrote down the burger but didn't order it, so in reality, the burger doesn't exist"! It was so bad it was funny! I had to chose 3 different main course options before I found one they actually had and my starter wasn't great. A memorable night but for the wrong reasons!

Nice quiet pub, friendly and welcoming staff. They appear to have had problems that day, when the food stock was severely depleted due to the fridges going off. However, they soldiered on and even this limited fare was excellent. The beer battered fish is superb.

Had to ask for a clean glass, which took a while to find. Waited 45 mins for just a meal, not complicated, for two. I eventually asked how much longer as we had been just ignored and was told another 10 mins, making nearly an hour wait. Not acceptable, so went home hungry.

We sat down at 7.30pm and it took about 2 and a half hours to get our starter and main course. When we complained how long the main was taking, the reply was "We have have other tables to server, you know.". One of our party commented to the waitress about how greasy the spaghetti bolognese, she replied "Well, I didn't cook it". Stony Stratford is a lovely town, and certainly has many other and better restaurants. I would not recommend The Bull Hotel.

Over the past month we have eaten here twice, and both times the food has been okay. The bar is nicely decorated, seats comfortable and service good. Unfortunately the food is just a bit average. On the second occasion I had fish and chips, which were incredibly greasy, giving me a dodgy stomach the next day. This pub could be amazing - they just need to improve the food,

We've been twice to the Bull in the last month for dinner. Both times it's been a very average experience. On both visits we chose tables which had to be cleared before we could be seated. Not ideal, but doesn't give a good presentation. On our first visit our seats were directly in front of the doors and we were subjected by a cold draft by the walk in trade. The menu was suitable for bar food with reasonable prices and the service on both occasions was good and friendly.Food though, was below par. One of the items on our first visit had to be changed as they'd run out of an ingredient (understandable, but showed a disconnect between the waiting staff and the kitchen). The food was okay, but not inspiring and generic pub fare. On our second visit the fish & chips were very greasy which left us all (three) feeling quite rough the next day.Hopefully it will improve, but needs a shake up to impress.

We stayed here for two nights. Got a good b&b deal. Breakfast was of good quality and cooked to order (if a little too heavy on the hollandaise). Staff were very eager to please and were pleasant. Food was reasonably priced and of a reasonable quality.Rooms are on the smaller size but this didn't bother us as the price is appropriate (for what we paid) and furnished nicely. We are visiting again later in the year.

I am actually writing this while sat here as I am in shock. Start with the dessert of home made cookies and ice cream. 2 large cold dry cookies! Ordered the breaded brie to start for £8 I got two cm wide slices of cheese. Not at all value for money! The pate came out and on the plate was foil wrapped butter portions. They are charging proces of much higher standards and quality than they are acheiving. Service was slow And not great

We dropped in for a bar meal and saw Chilli and Chips on the Specials Board. I asked if I could have Chili and Rice instead, a moment later cook appeared and said "yes but it will take a little while to cook" As we were not in a hurry I said OK, When the Chilli and Rice came it was superb! Cracking chilli with just enough bite. Highly recommended!

I've stayed here twice in 2 months and much prefer the village pub style to the MK city centre monolith chain hotels. This a genuine ancient pub on the main old coaching route London to Birmingham. It's in a large village called Stoney Stratford along the street from the Cock and it's from these two that we get the phrase Cock & Bull Stories. If I can find a way to review it as a hotel it'll get 4/5 stars. The food is pub grub and it's ok but not spectacular. Breakfast is a bit utilitarian but again ok. They do however serve up to 4 excellent real ales...

It was nice but sadly the cakes that we got were not part of the deal and we had to pay extra. Even though they diddont tell us what was part of the deal, the food was good though. But the portions where small. THE PLANTS ARE AMAZING!!!
