I’ve had several evening meals at the crown, pie night is a particular favourite but the Sunday roast dinners are the best. I’ve sampled a few in the area and The Crown is the best. Great atmosphere in the pub with a lovely old pub feel without it looking dated. Natalie in particular was very helpful on every visit. Will be going back again soon.

We popped in for a drink and a quick something to eat before going somewhere else. There wasn't any healthy options on the menu so i ended up have a chicken skewer starter, it was ok but the green beans tasted frozen and the chicken was dry. Would i go back? Unfortunately not

Natalie who served us was lovely and tried her best. They ran out of potatoes so couldn’t offer a roast dinner. I had fish and chips. The fish was greasy but ok. Chips were nice. Then they ran out of crumble but offered to make one from scratch which was kind but it tasted only of cinnamon and we still got charged for it even though we sent it back. She kindly attempted a liquor coffee but was served in a wide cup and was cold. Won’t be back I’m afraid :(. Shame as this place had been recommended by a friend.

We were on a "Withnail and I" pilgrimage and had come all the way from Exeter to have lunch at the The Crown in Stony Stratford because it was one of the pubs featured in the famous and wonderful cult film of that name (although back in the 80s when "Withnail and I" was filmed, the pub was called "The King Henry"). We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch - the food was great and very good value, and the service was excellent and very friendly. After lunch we went upstairs to view the impressive collection of rock and pop poster memorabilia to be seen in the venue hall. We have no hesitation in recommending this pub.

Disappointing. Sharing a meal with friends before visiting Theatre. Took ages to get someone to take order. Waited 45 mins to be told item ordered not available, so further delay. Hour and a half from entering restaurant to the meal being served. Food good, plentiful, but put us under an unwelcome time pressure.

Lovely pub and fantastic food. Had a roast dinner the other Sunday and yesterday had jerk chicken burger and hubby had steak and fries. All very well cooked, good quality produce and nicely presented. We eat roast dinner out quite a lot around Northamptonshire (as this is where we live) and this roast dinner was up there with one of the best. The beef was cooked to perfection and was good quality. Melted like butter in your mouth. Wasn't chewy at all. It was quite pink but that's how we like it. Sundays are also great with the Irish music. Upstairs also a great room with the sport and pool table.

Good food, large portions. The Crown are missing a trick, I have to have a gluten free diet and when you look at the menu, online and in the restaurant there is only one main meal marked GF and its a vegan burger. When I asked a waiter, who was very thorough, we found out that many dishes are GF. 4 out of 5 for not labelling the menu to show allergens. This was my only complaint.

Had an absolutely beautiful Sunday lunch and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Great service too. The only 1 gripe I had was the 'pork scratching' onto the roast pork dinner appeared to be shop brought with the white prawn cracker appearance which obviously didn't come from the meat itself.

Our local in Stony Stratford, but for some mental reason the owner has a ‘no bar snacks’ policy! no crisps, no pork scratchings, no scampi fries, no cheese moments, even nobbys nuts are nowhere to be seen, nothing. When the kitchen is closed you’re screwed for a nibble. Part of several under the same management, I wonder if they have crisps in the other pubs. If you’re the management of The Crown and you’re reading this, bring back crisps you miserable sod! Otherwise a good pub and on a Sunday night they typically have a brilliant Irish band play in the bar, buy em a drink if you call in and enjoy their music.

Came into this pub this evening for a few drinks and was served by a young girl with darkish hair and tattoos and unfortunately she was quite rude to myself and my wife. She wasn’t helpful when I asked questions and I witnessed her roll her eyes at me several times. I asked another member of staff and they mentioned she was in a management role which makes this even worse. I will be coming back to this pub as I like it there and i’ve been before but just this time i’ve had an unpleasant experience and thought I would share ! Hopefully next time will be better.

Group of 8 eating. We were the only people eating in restaurant. Service very slow. Food in some cases not as ordered. Only told of changes once food had arrived. Two chicken dinners were raw once cut into and returned for something different. One dinner completely forgotten. One diner whose chicken dinner was returned decided not to eat at all. No excuse for undercooked food. Will not be returning, and would not recommend.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but the experience I just had eating here is probably worth the management reflecting on so they can improve. We came in for dinner, and happened to be the only people in the entire restaurant. After ordering, I was later informed that the steak and Guinness pie had run out so chose something else. From here it was a very long wait for the food, despite only one other table of two arriving and the restaurant being empty. When the food arrived it was presented quite well. Unfortunately the standard of both meals was poor. In particular the mashed potato I had was hard and lumpy, like it had been microwaved. No one came to check on us during the meal, nor did they come to collect our plates. After a long wait, we just paid the bill at the bar on the way out. Very odd experience, hopefully not representative of how things are normally done at the Crown. The quality of food alone was enough to put me off coming back, but the empty restaurant and staff simply abandoning us in the restaurant just showed no care for what’s going on. Music was alright.

Booked a table for 6 people for a celebratory meal with friends on a Saturday evening. The main restaurant area was empty but we were shown to a side room which was cold (radiator turned off) and seated at a round table which could easily seat 10 people. Cosy and warm it was not ( 2 friends kept their coats on for the entire meal). I assumed the other tables in the restaurant were reserved otherwise I would have asked to move but it turned out we were the only diners the entire evening. Looking at the menu we decided to skip starters and for mains there were 2 orders for fish, 2 for chicken and 2 for steak pie. We were told on ordering that although the chicken came with cole slaw there was no cole slaw. I half-jokingly pointed out that there was a Tesco’s store about 200 metres away. The waiter returned to say that there was no fish and only 1 steak pie available. I asked to speak to the manager and was told there was no manager. I asked to speak to whoever was in charge and was told no-one was in charge. We should have left at this point but the hassle of finding another table for 6 at another restaurant on a Saturday night dissuaded us from doing to this. So 3 of us ordered a second choice. To be fair, when the food arrived it was nicely cooked and chef had actually made 2 portions of cole slaw. Except when one of us who had changed from the fish to a burger asked for cole slaw as well she was given an empty bowl and told to take some from the other plates. Not surprisingly we decided to skip desserts and coffee. The bill was £154. I was embarrassed at having taken friends to such a place when here are so many much nicer restaurants in Stony. Next month a pub in Stony is putting on a Fawlty Towers dinner. I think we may have been the dress rehearsal for that.

What an excellent pub&restaurant The Crown is, We were warmly greeted and taken to a lovely table in a nice part of the restaurant, We were left to settle for a few minutes then our drinks order was taken both drinks were refreshing, I can recommend the Tribute Ale, we then ordered our food , we starters which were both magnificent, I had the soup of the day which was served in a lovely bowl, the soup was Broccoli&Mushroom which was beautifully thick and full of flavour, my other half had the fish cake which was excellent fish&in a crisp delicous crumb served with a chunky and full of flavour tartare sauce, we then waited a little while then our trio sunday roasts arrived both plates were delicous and faultless, the carrots were the most excellent we have had,the parsnips were perfection, the roast potatoes were spot on, the cabbage mixture was first class, the gravy was full of depth and character, we had a side of cauliflower cheese which we can both highly recommend so both plates were cleared, Last but not least the Brilliant desserts, I had a first class Chocolate fudge cake with Ice cream presented not in a ball but a lovely circle , the presentation is faultless the amazing,my other half had a Jam Rolly Polly which was fantastic with a delicous tasting custard which was lovely&thick so a very successfull and enjoyable visit, We will without question be back in the future! we booked for Sunday lunch at The Crown with friends, there were 5 of us. we received a super warm welcome from Madison and shown to our table and then asked what we would like to drink. We took a minute to soak up the atmosphere, it was buzzing with activity and was warm and inviting. We immediately felt at home. The menu was just enough, not too big but with enough choice for everyone. We all opted for the roast. I had the beef which was melt in your mouth, and the roasties were out of this world, super crispy as they should be. We all shared some pigs in blankets, which were cooked properly not undercooked like in some places, and a cauliflower cheese which oozed cheese !! They even had an option for an all-meat roast so you could have a bit of everything. The gravy, which is super important and can make or break a roast, was excellent, proper homemade, and the perfect finishing touch. The portions were mega and only one of us could manage the desert. This was a chocolate cake with ice cream....lush, and literally finished us off. All of this was washed down with some great beer and wine. The service is also an important part of eating out, and this was 10 out of 10, Madison and Freddy were great and couldn't have looked after us more. Big shout out to chef Emilio as well for what has to be one of the best Sunday roasts we have had in a long long time !! The manager, Kelly, has done a truly amazing job of putting the Crown back on the map as a foodie destination.....best roast in Stony? best for roast miles we say......can't wait to come back !!

We come in for every Sunday and are always satisfied with their service. The food is excellently prepared (as always) and consistently delicious and delivered with smiles. We have been to many restaurants for our weekly Sunday breakfast and have endured rude and unpleasant experiences unlike what we’ve experienced at the crown, who have always been welcoming and friendly. This is our favourite place for a fresh breakfast and we have also gone for Sunday lunch too in the past which is equally as lovely. I would definitely recommend going to the crown and having something to eat on a Sunday. Thank you Sunday team and keep up the brilliant work.

The Crown is by far one of the best pubs in Stony Stratford. After new management, the food is of an unbelievable standard for a local pub. Negative reviews are clearly by people maliciously trying to trash what is a fantastic and historic pub, please ignore these as this is never my experience and I am a regular customer. The management are excellent, staff are extremely attentive and welcoming, they are suprisingly quick at service even when the pub is rammed at the weekend evenings. It's the perfect pub for both dining in for a tasty meal, as well as a few casual drinks in the evening. We host regular daytime business meetings here too which it's perfect for in the weekday days. Very ambient and lovely place. Function room with regular live music upstairs which is a nice touch to an otherwise quaint little bar. 5 stars all round keep up the good work

In response to my friends reviews below, I need to clarify what happened as the response from the manager is not the true turn of events. The sign downstairs said that the restaurant was in use - no entry but there were no signs upstairs to say that we could not use the door to access to the garden area. Just so the manger is aware, other customers were using this door to access the garden also, so of course we did not think twice about this. Whilst we were outside, members of staff came to collect empty glasses and nothing was said on all of these occasions. The issue isn’t that we were told we weren’t allowed outside - it was the way that we were spoken to that has led us to write these reviews. We met up at the crown to celebrate a friends birthday and it really put a downer on the evening. The manager came down the stairs already shouting at us, in front of a family and swore multiple times. We explained that we didn’t realise this - we did NOT challenge or argue against the manager but continued to receive rude responses. We said that she could’ve said this in a nicer and non-aggressive way, as we would’ve happily gone back inside. When returning upstairs, the manager said she had this issue with other customers last night and was extremely frustrated - however we did not deserve to receive the brunt of this and have this taken out on us in an extreme and patronising manner. We are regulars at The Crown and have been for years, we love this pub but we are so shocked at how this was handled and the approach that was taken towards customers - which is why these reviews have been written.

We were in here to have a few drinks the restaurant was closed due to a function. We then proceeded to use the door upstairs to leave to the garden so we can drink and have a smoke. The sign downstairs was not clear saying the garden was off limits through either entry. I appreciate you can’t go through the function so upstairs was not signed to say we couldn’t after an hour the manager came screaming down the stairs shouting profanity telling us to leave had she asked me and my 6 friends nicely we would’ve left. This was the first we had heard or had been told. Unacceptable and was gobsmacked that we were treated like this being regulars every Friday and Saturday. No excuse even the family whose function it was were concerned with how we were treated. Unacceptable.

Another VERY disappointing visit. Went in at 11.30am for breakfast to be told no breakfast on Monday. This is NOT mentioned on the menu from their website. We were told instead the lunch menu is available from 12 noon. Ok, so only half hour to wait. We had a friend with us from our of town who needed to be away by 12.30pm, so it'll be tight but should be fine. We wait until 12 and try to order lunch. We're now told the chef isn't in till 12.30pm. FFS! Well that's it, we had to leave without any food at all. The last disappointing visit it took an hour and half to get food (poor procedures) but at least we got food. Not this time. So, so disappointed as it has a lovely atmosphere and a ton of history. Further disappointed as although there's some great pictures and info of local history on the walls, there's no mention of Withnail and I, which is the reason our out of town friend wanted to come here.

Visited with friends for a quick dinner. Food was fantastic. I had the fish and chips. Quiet atmosphere, could have done with some light music? Server was a pleasant chappy but forgetful, maybe new? 🤔. Would deffo go back as it was all clean and friendly with good simple pub grub.

Great food for our golfing group on Saturday, food was absolutely amazing, Yorkshire Puds with roast beef and horse radish sauce, Buttermilk Chicken with dips, sausage rolls and an amazing quiche. Great friendly staff. Thank you, Emma and Kelly

Since Kelly took over this place has been great. The change in food, management and all sorts has been fab. The addition of a pool table is fantastic as it keeps the blokes form annoying us ladies 😂 well done Kelly

Booked for an evening meal in what is described as the ‘restaurant’. There was our table and one other in use with all the other tables empty which I thought strange for a Saturday night. I soon found out why. The ‘restaurant’ is a walkway...

Have been to over 1000 pubs, restaurants, cates etc in my life and this one ranks in the top 5 for worst service! 3 young staff, inexperienced and unknowable, tried hard but were overwhelmed! The manager totally lacked in interpersonal skills, and was arrogant! Had...

Awful service! Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy!!! Took 2.5 hours for the food to come. The manager/owner was rude and had no customer service experience. Shame because the food was actually ok. Young staff were polite but incompetent.

Great service and food. Walked in on a Sunday lunchtime. Food was delicious, and the better half tells me her nut roast was amazing.

Awful service and would never come back again! Took 2.5 hours for the food to come out. Shame because food was actually good. Young staff were polite but incompetent and manager was rude and had absolutely no customer service experience. And when it came to pay the manager/older lady took forever to take payment and was rude when we asked to pay.Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy.

To some extent you know what you're getting with Nando's, but nonetheless the customer experience can vary between branches. This is one of the good ones. Despite being a very busy branch (with delivery orders also adding to the pressure on staff), they do their best to greet and seat you promptly. The food usually comes out quickly and cooked to the usual standard. Last time we went, it was served inside of ten minutes! You can see the staff here work damn hard! My only criticism is the constant bang of the kitchen door as people go in and out of it. It could do with replacing for one that closes more quietly. A very well run branch of Nando's overall though. 👏

The Frog and Nightgown had been recommended to a group of 10 of us for a few drinks to start a Friday night out in Newport Pagnell. The pub was warm and characterful and we stayed for a few rounds of drinks sitting around one of the tables near the bar. Some of us then stood at and around the bar area near to the table talking. We were asked by a very rude member of staff (we assumed the manager, with short curly hair) to please “sit on our seats as we were blocking the staff’s walk way”. We were simply standing around the bar finishing our drinks. We swiftly moved on to receive a lovely welcome at the Cannon pub nearby but were all shocked at the previous request and its delivery. I’ve never been asked to sit down in a pub before like a child at school. Won’t go back anytime soon.
