The Crate and Apple

Chichester West, Chichester, 20-30£
12/11/2018: It was a rainy Saturday in Chichester and we wanted to take our puppy for a walk and stop for lunch. We saw that the Crate and Apple was dog friendly and a foodies pub.
11/11/2018: Visited here for Sunday lunch (3 of us). The food was amongst the best quality I have had for lunch in some time and service was pleasant. It was however very slow - drinks, food courses and the bill did take a long time. They didn’t appear particularly short staffed - just a bit slow to recognise we were ready to move on. I suspect this is a one-off and would definitely go again.

The Sir Roger Tichborne

Plaistow, Chichester, <20£
12/11/2018: The Titchborne is always very welcoming the service always brilliant as is the ambiance and the food and pleasure to visit
07/11/2018: I’ve been coming to this pub for a while now and can honestly say that no matter what the occasion I always have a great experience. The food, service and ambience is second to none and I can’t recommend this pub enough!

The George

Chichester North, Chichester, 20-30£
09/11/2018: Stopped here for an early dinner on our way to Chichester Festival Theatre. A very warm welcome from their amazing staff who fussed over our two dogs. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the decor is quirky and fun.
07/11/2018: Lovely atmosphere, very clean, roaring fire. Food absolutely marvellous but long wait. Apparently some people turned up late and it all went pear shaped. Very popular place but probably best to visit on a week day. Staff very helpful and so cheerful even under difficult circumstances. Would definitely recommend.

The Stags Head

Westbourne, Chichester
06/11/2018: Having not been able to make a booking somewhere else , we rang The Stag’s and they were happy to oblige even though it was late and they were busy. The roast lunch was excellent and the patron is genuinely interested in his guests.
04/11/2018: We decided to try out the carvery after we experienced a fabulous breakfast several months ago and wanted to impress our friends we hadn’t seen for a long time. The owner and staff were very accommodating starting with the phone call while booking our table. Nothing was too much hassle for them when we arrived. We were made to feel so welcome, even with our three children ranging from 1-8yrs. The children’s food was on its way out so the chef himself came to tell us that the carvery was ready when we were; so friendly and considerate. The food itself was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious. We are so glad we chose this place to impress our friends as that is exactly what they were, very impressed. The decor is fresh and tidy and unlike other pubs; modern and really light inside. We will definitely be coming here again but won’t leave it so long next time. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.

The Gribble Inn

North Mundham, Chichester
02/11/2018: Third visit within a month, journey 70 miles round trip well worth it.
25/10/2018: Popped in for a quiet drink. Lovely little pub. Friendly staff. Real fire on the go. Perfect for a couple of drinks.

Riviera Restaurant

Selsey South, Chichester
28/10/2018: I had an operation on my foot last Wednesday and was delighted when my son, his wife and daughter arrived at my house for Sunday lunch bringing four ready plated dinners from the Carvery. The food was fantastic, four different sorts of meat (all tender and very tasty), roast potatoes, wonderful roast parsnips, stuffing, carrots, beans, cauliflower, separate containers of gravy. Then rhubarb crumble and custard to follow. An amazingly good lunch - thank you so much staff at the Rivera Restaurant for doing that for us.
22/10/2018: Recommended to us by a local and we all enjoyed our meals. Good size portions which make it very good value. Vegan options available - my daughter tried the cashew paella which she enjoyed and gets the added bonus of the salad bar followed by the frangipane tart. My husband was very happy with his steak & kidney pie and opted for the roast potatoes and vegetables from the carvery roast. People who chose the carvery option were piling their plates high! And I enjoyed a fresh crab salad again with option of adding anything extra from the salad bar. We also had drinks and coffees and the bill was £50 for all 3 of us.

The Boulevard

East Wittering, Chichester, <20£
03/11/2018: Good, friendly and efficient service. Food was very good and arrived quickly. Lots of food on the menu.
30/10/2018: We stopped here en route home to Essex, having spent an overnight stay at a caravan park in West Wittering. The portions are huge, delicious and reasonably priced.

Billy's on the Beach

East Wittering, Chichester, >100£
08/11/2018: Visited last week for breakfast, it wasn’t as good as many other places around the village and was a bit of a disappointment...
07/11/2018: We came to East Wittering for a weekend away in early November and came to Billy's twice. Once for lunch on a very busy Saturday and then for breakfast on a quiet Monday morning before we left. Both times were fantastic and very different experiences, the bustle liveliness of when it was busy and the relaxed, laid back vibe of a morning. The food and service were wonderful and the views over the beach and to the sea were beautiful. We would highly recommend stopping by and watching the world go by. For food the avocado and poached eggs were delicious and we would recommend ordering them.

The Berkeley Arms

Bosham, Chichester, <20£
31/10/2018: Staying in Bosham for half term, we booked for Saturday night, even though it wasn't necessary. Welcoming and attentive staff, food was lovely, portion sizes are decent but too much for me. Definitely worth trying.
29/10/2018: We had fish, chips and mushy peas - it was the best battered fish ever - light and crispy, not greasy at all. The tartare sauce was lovely too. We had a lovely meal and would certainly return.

Cockburn's Tea Rooms

Midhurst, Chichester
05/10/2018: Top service in a wonderful atmosphere. Afternoon tea was amazing, Great selection of sandwiches and cakes. By far my favourite tearoom.
26/09/2018: My wife and I have just had the most delicious afternoon tea at the Arundel tearooms. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty while the sweet selection was an absolute delight. Too much to eat at one sitting but they were more than happy to box up the remaining pastries. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Won't be long before we return. 5*****

The Fox Goes Free

Boxgrove, Chichester, <20£
12/11/2018: Visited for Sunday lunch, very busy, which reflects on quality of food. Huge, tasteless, yorkshire puddings, hard roast potatoes and tough rib of beef. Had to request gravy.
07/11/2018: Great little pub, very traditional, has traditional values, value for money, great service, great food and large portions, could have done with a better choice of desserts, otherwise could not fault the service, food or atmosphere

The Hollist Arms

Easebourne, Chichester, 30-45£
09/11/2018: We received a friendly welcome from the barmaid/waitress at this charming village pub, recently upgraded under new ownership (also own Noah's Ark); it strikes the right balance between pub and restaurant. Farrow and Ball type decor with old pine tables, pictures and succulents in small vases. An attractive, tempting menu delivered tasty enjoyable plates of food and the peppercorn sauce which accompanied the chicken Milanaise (in panko crumbs) was the best sauce I have ever had. Well done, Chef! The black bean, chorizo and jalapeno croquettes' first course was a large portion and for my taste should have been spicier as they lacked any punch. Also a fresh salsa might have been better than mayonnaise to accompany the rich croquettes. However, it was a good starter for a hungry walker. Crispy shredded beef salad was well presented, attractive and tasty. Good selection of wines and beers, and draught cider excellent. Nice, relaxed atmosphere with daily newspapers to read and there are several areas in which to sit. There are various deals on different days ie Tues: pie and pint £14 and one Weds a month: 2 course lunch with 125cl glass wine £15. We shall certainly go again; next time I'd love to see a couple of more slimming options on the menu which doesn't include any deep fat frying. Do pop into the well-stocked Lodsworth Larder, the village shop run by volunteers next door too and have a walk at nearby Black Down.
27/10/2018: A magical find, and worth the drive. Simply one of the best hidden gems around. Warm welcome from all the staff, beautiful yet cosy interior, especially with the welcoming log fires! Exceptional food and service. If you like the Noah’s Ark in Lurgashall, then its sister pub you will absolutely love.

The Elsted Inn

Harting, Chichester, <20£
31/10/2018: We visited this lovely pub at 2pm on a Sunday for my husband’s birthday. We were a party of 6, comprising 4 adults, two teenagers and a two year old.
26/10/2018: Only stayed for a quick pit stop on the way to Portsmouth, but everything there was great. Fantastic food, great atmosphere and the surrounding area was perfect for an after meal walk!

The Stag Inn

Petworth, Chichester, >100£
09/11/2018: We have been intending visiting the Stag Inn for some time (about two years!) following various recommendations from friends. Finally we did so on Thursday only to find that the pub had changed hands...but we need not have worried!!
06/11/2018: Very friendly pub, welcomed our golden retriever with dog biscuits and water. The food was good and lovely friendly service - all in front of a log fire.

Cassons Restaurant

Tangmere, Chichester, >100£
07/11/2018: Unfortunately not the “wow” factor dinner we were expecting - particularly after reading previous reviews & dining guides. I noted with interest the owner's comments on these guides in the restaurant’s “autumn newsletter“ - which seemed to suggest that the guides under rate Cassons - maybe not in our opinion…
04/11/2018: My partner decided to take me for a nice meal without the children ,We have been to cassons twice now and both times the food has been full of flavour and well worth the money. The owner greeted us with a welcoming smile and took us to our booked table. I decided on the quail start and roe dear main both were full of flavour I highly recommend,my partner decided on the scallops start and suckling pig main my partner described both as beautifully cooked (huge compliment from him being a chef), we both had the quartet of desserts which was amazing because we just couldn’t decide.
