What a unique and quaint English pub, the owners are lovely people with taste, and a love for chickens of which there are 10 or so just roaming free in the garden (the garden is clean and well maintained) Everything about my trip was great and I really can't wait to visit in a more leisurely capacity as unfortunately I was just stopping by

My partner and I called up to ask if they served takeaway pizza - lots of photos on Google showing pizzas & on the menu...the lady answering the phone (the owner) laughed at us & was so rude & very condescending - totally unnecessary - she even hung up on us! Way to bring new customers in!! 👌🏻

Four of us dropped U.K. for lunch in a Saturday. Really nice outdoor space and tables definitely well spaced apart. Sensible tried and tested menu with excellent English dishes that really doesn’t change and doesn’t need to. They may not have a huge menu but what they do they do very well. Good selection of local beers Excellent parking recommended

No vegetarian or vegan options - very odd in 2024! The beer garden is stunning, however, the locals (not bar staff) were rude and created an unpleasant atmosphere. We were a group of 10 and left after one drink without ordering food.

Quintessential English country pub with food and service so inviting you'll want to visit again. If you'd never been to a country pub and had only an idyllic picture of what it would be...look no further. Cosy fires, real ale from the barrel, friendliest of greeting, garden with beautiful views, food to tell others about. Dog friendly and car park. Although recommended (long) walk from Harting Down. But if you want a table and food you really must book ahead. Dont look for fancy web site booking; pick up a phone and speak old school!

I was told this was a a delightful country pub, having grown up in the countryside and having moved to the city I thought all wonderful, friendly and welcoming pubs had vanished. This is a treasure as it is the archetypal British pub serving great food and fabulous bitter. The liver and bacon was perfectly cooked and served with nicely crisp broccoli, the service was friendly and the pub had a lovely warm atmosphere. I would recommend this pub to anyone who doesn't want plastic food served by staff with artificial smiles. I truly great British pub.

Hands down the WORST pub food I’ve had in my 57 years. I had the steak and kidney pie which arrived with a large crust, no side or bottom and a few pieces of steak and kidney. The vegetables were soggy and microwaved and my dog gratefully received the atrocious ‘meat’. My daughter’s sausage and mash tasted chemically , onions sloppy and overdone BUT the sausages were OK. T’wife had duck salad which was just thrown together with no care or presentation. Pudding of sticky toffee pudding FAR too sweet - try Cartmel- and my second lager tasted of just cleaned pipes. AND we were only brought eating irons- NO salt , pepper, brown, red, mayo. I’m still shocked at what I paid for this absurd disaster. Give me a reply and I’ll double your turnover…… Have to say I LOVE the setting and the drive there but jeeeeeeez. How hard can it be?!!!!! Brakes have a lot to answer for…..

When the owner manager is as tuned into and as motivated as the publican at the Three Horseshoes it makes a huge difference. The attention to detail in every aspect is superb. Local to the heart but welcoming to trade from outside the region this in the best pub in the South Downs. Food and drink excellent, an array of carefully selected locally artisanal food products add to the sense of this place being integral to the village and the area. If there's a pub with a better view of the Downs from the outside sitting area I'd be amazed.

The reason I am only giving two stars to this lovely pub in a great location is that they don't have vegetarian or vegan option on their menu. I just cannot understand this nowadays when everyone is eating less meat for health, animal welfare and environmental reasons. I was astounded when I looked at the menu when I arrived. My only options were a cheese ploughmans or a concoction suggested by lady behind the bar and created from an avocado and bacon starter without the bacon and a roasted peppers and duck main course without the duck but with some extra cheese. As I was hosting guests and didn't want a fuss, I just opted for the latter but the result just was a greasy mess. I felt sorry for staff as they must be asked for vegetarian food all the time. On the plus side the view from the enormous garden is terrific, the roses in the garden are georgous and well tended, there are lots of outdoor tables, the staff are friendly, the service is good and the indoor section is quaint and cosy. (and PS My meat and fish eating guests all enjoyed their main courses, thank goodness!)

Oh, this is how a pub should be, shame we live a fair distance away. Glorious views, fantastic roses this year, and tables spread out all over the place. Wonderful if you need a quiet space or have reactive dogs that don't particularly want to be near other dogs. Cannot comment on the food other than the ploughmans as that's all we ate. Just what you want from a ploughmans and an excellent sized chunk of cheese for the cheesists like me! Inside looks delightful and traditional, but again we only popped in to order and collect beers.
