The Stag Inn in Chichester

The Stag Inn is a great find - a little off the beaten track but well worth finding. The Stag is a great pub in the finest British tradition - warm and friendly, very accommodating and efficient staff, great food at good prices and a wonderful experienced all round. Thoroughly recommended, we will definitely be back for more.

Our party of four had an excellent lunch which was served by polite, attentive, professional staff. The cook clearly knows what they are doung as our meals were well prepared with attention to detail. For mains we all had the Pie of the Day, pork with cider, which was exceptional. The draft bitter, is in my view, very well kept and its not often you get a good head on a pint these days. The Stag Inn is a real find and if we lived nearer would definately be our local. Well done to the excellent team at the Stag Inn. We shall return.

Really lovely, warm, friendly, busy and authentic place. Team was amazing and very accommodating, great food and really inviting atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Great pub stayed down nearby for Goodwood and went on consecutive nights. Really friendly staff and a great English pub with good food. Will definitely go back next time we are in the area Recommended!

Did not go in, very disappointed that they did not have a beer tent at the steam rally field. Maybe next year if not only one star next year.

We’d been diverted off the A272 and had to find a way to Petworth to complete our journey. It was lunchtime, so we also needed to stop. Here we are, a great little pub that more people should look for and probably a lot of people know about. There were a few people in when we arrived and I ordered drinks (cask beer and good wine) and asked for the menu. There’s a good selection of dishes and clearly the chef knows how to put together a good menu. As much as things like the oven-baked sea bass looked tempting, we only wanted a sandwich and there was a selection of 7 different ones. We opted for the Sausage and Onion; and the Brie, Bacon and Cranberry. Both came with chips and salad. The bread was nice and soft and my sausage had great flavour and was nicely cooked. It was enhanced by the soft onions - very tasty. The chips were really nice and hot and the salad well balanced. Service was good, although the poor lad serving had forgotten napkins, knives and forks and quickly redeemed himself. We sat in the beer garden which had 10 bench seats, so could seat quite a few people. Some good areas of shade too as well as big umbrellas.

Delightful welcoming landlords who serve delicious homemade food. Came with friends for lunch whilst visiting Petworth House which is only a 5 minute drive away. We were tempted by this hot brownie dessert with salted caramel ice cream - amazing. We will be back.

A lovely village pub, food good, welcoming.

Cannot rate our Sunday lunch at The Stag at Ball’s Cross highly enough. The roast pork with all the trimmings was delicious and the biscotti cheesecake was out of this world. The staff went out of their way to be patient and friendly towards my frail elderly parents and helped to ensure that they had a relaxing time . It was their first meal out in many months, since my father came out of hospital. A sincere thank you to them all!

Have been to the Stag several times and it is consistently good. Popped in again last week for lunch and a pint. Food was great and there is a good choice of beer.

Great pub great Sunday roast good price good service and staff

A lovely pub that has great service and great food and welcomes walkers, there are some good hikes from here. Phil is very organised and made sure everything went smoothly for us. Everyone in our group enjoyed our Sunday lunch. The Sunday Roasts all came with the relevant condiments in a small pot on the plate, which is a small thing but it saves you waiting ages after you have been served your lunch for horse radish etc. All in all a really nice end to our walk.

We stayed locally at an air BnB. I had been to The Stag, many moons ago as a child. This pub is so beautiful. We had dinner here on Saturday and had the best meal. The chips, were the best chips we’ve ever had. So much so we decided last minute to eat here the next day also. They managed to squeeze us in on Sunday for a roast, which was amazing too. Really friendly pub and staff. Totally would recommend to others. We will be back.

Had a lovely meal here tonight. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. We had the Camembert starter which was the best I’ve ever experienced (and this is coming from someone who orders Camembert from every pub they visit!). Locals were friendly and the service very efficient. I highly recommend The Stag and will be back!

This is traditional, rural pub complete with eclectic decor. It's a tonic from all those gastro pubs and chains. Its simple and unpretentious but very homely The roast dinners we had were really good. My kids' burgers were pretty decent. The pudding was a little average with cheap tasting vanilla ice cream. The service was very friendly. The food took about 35 mins to arrive, so just be prepared to wait. This was nearly a 5 star review. I'd definitely go back

Your true English country pub… not too fancy and wonderfully authentic! Had a great lunch there today, good food, lovely staff and great ambience, what’s not to like! We also loved the fact that they had sandwiches available at lunchtimes, if that’s what you fancy as opposed to a full meal, although the sandwiches were hearty too… desserts were delicious and just the right sized serving… 👌🏼🤗 Thank you again, we will be back for sure, and thank you for laughing with us!! 😁

Tucked away, peaceful, family, English country pub. You know a place is a hit when your children wish to return when asked where we should go for dinner! Our girls were so well looked after, and we were thoroughly taken care of. Delicious food, obviously (from the comment above) fantastic service and we are looking forward to return soon! This is a proper country pub! Big inglenook fire, cozy little bar room, nice restaurant area. Good food at reasonable prices in a beautiful village. Love it!

Fantastic country pub. Attended the Boxing Day meet which was a fabulous display of trail hunting within the law, a chance to meet friends and make new ones in a wonderful rural community. The staff were lovely and made for a great day. Will certainly return.

A superb catch up with so many friends at the annual Boxing Day trail hunt meet. Everywhere I turned there were locals enjoying a drink and supporting their rural pub. Everyone was welcomed by this quaint, friendly establishment and I thank them for hosting the meet. We will be back for dinner very soon.

Busy Boxing Day annual Boxing Day legal trail hunt. Visitors from far and wide all ages all pleasant and great weather Doug M I don’t know what pub you were at but there was no violence or threatening behaviour!!. Everyone I met or spoke to was friendly and courteous!! Maybe your view would change if you visited the pub they do a nice vegan burger have tried it !!

I entered this pub on Boxind Day and I was horrified to discover they were hosting a fox hunt. Fox hunters are cruel criminals who torture wildlife. Surely no respectable pub should welcome these shameful relicts from the past?

This was a half way meeting point for Lunch with friends. We booked a table by the fire and arrived promptly at 1230. Our initial seating was not in line with our booking, however, that was quickly resolved with a table adjacent to a lovely open fire. From then things just got better. The service was charming and helpful with a nice but sensibly limited menu meaning that our choice was simple and quick. We opted for a Main & Desert with all 4 guests delighted with their choice. The food was both homely and very tasty. Equally, the Apple Crumble would be our preferred selection - particularly with Ice Cream & Custard! All very good value with a great pub atmosphere.

Was going to book my works Christmas do here but have since heard that they host the Leaconfield and cowdray hunt. Such a shame because the menu looked good but out of principal I could not spend my money in a pub that’s supports the ripping apart of foxes for sport. Obviously not animal lovers

I've stumbled upon this place twice now and it is yet to disappoint! Super quaint, lovely location with a really nice/quiet garden to the back along with its much more buzzy front area. A Good Find Brilliant find ! I needed a pub to meet with friends but we all live in different directions - Chichester, Guildford and Leatherhead, on searching for a good location I found The Stag Inn. On arrival the staff were friendly and welcoming, in this traditional old style village pub. Service was excellent and the food was of good quality and very reasonably priced. We chose the prawn and avocado sandwich which came with salad and good quality homemade chips - all for £10. If you need a good friendly pub which is a little off the beat and track then try this one, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Cannot wait to go back. Perfect fish for me and roasts for the family. Staff efficient and friendly. Bravo to you all, no niggles at all.
