This place needs sorting out, getting decent chefs for a start. We had a carvery here and by 7pm they had started to run out of meat, when we got ours we had 1 this bit of gammon and even less turkey. Potatoes were all hard, they must have been there all day. Nothing was fresh, mostly cold. They need to close down and refurb the place and the staff. Its gone right down hill. Felt sorry for the manager, as there were so many complaints.

Shrinkflation has arrived. And all for over £30 a head. If you have an appetite, do not come here. The only thing they have in abumdance is lettuce. One of us wanted to have their Chicken Caesar Salad as a main. Oh yes, they said. Out came a small plate of an egg, with lettuce covering something. Not an anchovy, parmesan, nor crouton, in sight. And all for a mere £15.95 Mains price. Another chose their Steak Pie. Out came pie, chips,,,,, and letttuce and gravy. Then to cap it all, we chose (old school) Spotted Dick. Your mind goes to a pile of suety currants, swimming in custard. Out came a small disk of sponge, a few centimetres across, covering a dab of custard. And for that they charged £7.95, or about a pound per cc. Yes, let us leave this.

My 5-year-old Son was worried Santa was the only person who did not get presents from Santa so spent hours making him a little book of Christmas drawings in. We went to video him giving his book to Santa, upon which Santa aggressively shouted for us not to video, which we immediately complied with and said sorry. Then without us saying anything other than sorry proceeded to have massive go about it to us, banging on about the small sign behind us stating no photography. He scared and deeply upset the children. He is a horrible man. We told the children that he was not the real Santa which working on the 5-year-old but his actions ended the magic it for the elder. After his upsetting rant he casted my sons gift it aside without looking at it, order the kids to have a photo they did not want with the now scary Santa. My Son’s first words when we left the grotto were “Mummy, why was Father Christmas so mean and angry ” This is worst grotto ever.

We went for lunch and sat in a cosy room - one of several scattered around the pub. As it was a Sunday I had to have the roast. This was the only pub from the Picked Egg group that we hadn't visited and we weren't disappointed upon completed the set. The front terrace looks inviting for a warm summer's day too.

Building and Rooms lovely. Room was excellent in terms of size, appointment, cleanliness and comfort of bed (unfortunately it was a bit stuffy; noisy when kitchen fans were on; and, strangely, no-where to hang towels). Unfortunately, the Downstairs (bar and Restaurant) is tired and has a 'grubby pub' feel; e.g. crockery not clean, 'restaurant' waiting staff were super friendly but not knowledgeable nor efficient. Barman actually quite brusque and pulled cork from £30 bottle of wine out of sight of table and plonked on the table like a bottle of ketchup.

We have had breakfast here a few times over the years and are usually fairly impressed. I did notice the prices has increased since we visited earlier this year. Today I ordered a Sauage sandwich and my husband had the full English with an extra of black pudding. The food arrived at the table within 2 minutes of ordering so was obviously pre cooked. The breakfast arrived without the black pudding but this was delivered straight away. As they only use margarine I asked that I do not have this on the sandwich. When the sandwich arrived it was just 2 sausages one in each side so didn't fill the bread. I felt this was not worth £6. My husband was happy enough with his food and the coffe was nice. The staff do seem to go above and beyond in helping the older less mobile customers still, which is good to see.

We read the reviews and decided to check out the experience. The pub has recently been taken over by a new couple who are doing an incredible job. I’d like to say at the start I don’t base my review feedback on just the food it’s all about the experience from start to finish. The atmosphere in the pub very relaxed the food extremely well cooked and very hot. The environment extremely clean ❤️literally spotless especially the toilets. The staff were all extremely nice.We ended up having a bit of banter with one of the customers who actually ended up being one of the bar staff, a top man. It’s not very often you visit a place and feel like you’ve had an absolutely fantastic time, but we did. Some advice to anyone reading this review make sure you pop in and check this place out it rocks. Good luck for 2025 you’ve certainly made an impression on us best wishes Darren/Dawn.

We like HASKINS & over Christmas took many of our visitors to see the excellent Market and of course the new LAKELAND department; however, but it is let-down by the poor Restaurant. You guys have known the problem for years, so many reviews mention cold food maybe there is a great display of food but because of the slow checkout system and obtaining drinks after the food selection it is always cold by the time you reach your table. Why don't you look a little further along the road at the Highdown Garden Centre who have solved the problem by having table service with hot plated food arriving at customers table by waiters/waitresses.

Usual tap beers available. I had a Guinness which was very nice. Music being piped through which was very pleasant. Wooden floors throughout and a mix match of tables and chairs. Staff were friendly and polite. Descently decorated. Enjoyed my visit.
