Portway Inn, was the best place for breakfats for my family and I. we use to go each week. Todday we were turned away and was told they no longer accept outside customers only residents only. I have taken a picture of each of these. There terms and conditions, there website, their menu and when you walk towards the reception entrance from car park, no where does it say residents only can get breakfast. what a waste of time and fuel. I am so disappointed.

Had Sunday lunch for my sons birthday but I thought the service was a bit slow and when I asked if they did bottles of coke one waitress said yes but when I was ordering drinks the other waitress said we don’t do bottles of coke which I thought was odd for a pub. Cut a long story short after I ordered a different drink I was then told they had them. The nut roast wasn’t good nor the pork loin I had but everyone else enjoyed their food apparently the beef was lovely. In hind sight I should have taken the service charge off the bill but I didn’t.

One of those yo-yo pubs that seem to go between excellent and awful (different owners) over the last 25 years I've been visiting. Pleased to say its back to excellent under the current proprietors! Wednesday night dinner for a birthday and the food was top notch. Really buzzy atmosphere for a midweek and the service, whilst a bit on the slow side I guess because of the busyness, was all in all very good and friendly. Special call out for the suet steak pie, not often you see this on a menu and was lovely! Highly recommend and will be returning with friends next month!

Amazing price of £10 for three courses on a fish Friday. The service was efficient, food good and ambience fine. We can't work out how the Star Inn can keep the prices so very reasonable. Definitely recommend and will visit again if in the area.

There was no atmosphere in there, the decor was in poor condition with wobbly tables and dirty upholstery. In fact the restaurant area could do with a thorough clean. Loos are also in poor condition. When we arrived the waiting staff just waved in the direction of a few tables and told us to sit anywhere. Waited too long for drinks, which were simple enough and surprisingly expensive (£5 for a glass of OJ). Also waited for over 40 minutes for our meals to arrive: My mash was cold My father in law couldn’t eat the stodgy lump that was supposed to be stuffing, nor his peas that were like bullets Mother in laws chicken was rather dry. We weren’t offered any condiments nor did any staff member ask if our meals were ok or if we wanted anymore drinks (which would have a been a ‘yes’) We decided against any desserts and we didn’t think it would have been served before closing time! All in all, a disappointing experience and we’re unlikely to return

Went today for the first and last time. The ‘system’ of queuing & ordering food at one counter, then queueing some more before ordering drinks at a different counter was PAINFUL. We queued for about 20 minutes in total before reaching the till to pay. As we paid for our orders we noticed a lady who had been wondering around with our food - presumably trying to find where we were sat! The thing is - we hadn’t even sat down yet and you were looking for us to deliver our food to our table! By the time we sat down our food was stone cold. Throughout the whole queuing escapade we did notice the younger staff members were trying their hardest to keep up. However there were three older (balding & bearded) men who were presumably the ‘managers’ who just seemed to be standing around full of self importance supposedly ‘supervising’ the younger workers. These chaps need to realise that they are not above serving customers during busy spells and they should be more ‘hands on’. Instead they just walked around constantly behind the counter giving out smug looks and not helping the girls who were run ragged trying to keep up with the demand for coffees. Very bad service and the managers/supervisors could do with going back to basics of customer service & rethink how this place works. It was sheer chaos and other customers were equally frustrated at the disorganised set up. And before you reply with a smart comment, I have worked with the public for over 30 years, so yes, I do know a thing or two about how to exceed customers expectations. I expect better when paying YOUR prices. Why not just do table service? You have enough staff!!

This lovely pub has just enough space to squeeze in between the busy Banbury Road and Oxford canal. Inside it's warm and welcoming, with open fires and friendly staff. We had a delicious Sunday lunch. The food is delicious, very generously proportioned and excellent value. The carvery Sunday roast was terrific. It's also a lovely place from which to walk along the canal, up to Thrupp or back towards Oxford. Very highly recommended

We are regulars but today was somewhat disappointing. The portions of meat for a regular carvery was tight and I have had more in the past from a small carvery. Added to this the gammon was extremely tough and impossible to cut without industrial tools. Even the curly kale was hard to cut and very chewy. The staff were, as ever, very friendly but it was not very professional to overhear a manager say to the server “ easy up on the beef as we are running out”.
