Toby Carvery in Windsor and Maidenhead

Lack of meat. Was overwhelmed with vegetables which was very nice. Great if your a vegetarian but unfortunately there is better puns with roasts to go to

On what was a busy Sunday evening, we arrived I time for our booking and were directed to wait in the bar which we duly did. I would say we waited around 15 mins for our table to be ready. Thankfully we found a table in the bar to sit at in the meantime. One lady seemed to be running the bar mainly on her own. No ice bucket available for wine bottle at the point we arrived. Glasses are quite heavily marked with cleaning material so we had to wipe them before use. Cutlery too. Waiting staff were cheerful and attentive and seemed to be constantly active. Carvery delivery team worked efficiently to move the queue along. Serving spoon for carrots in particular was too hot to handle safely. When we left there was still a large queue waiting to be sat. Parking was ok, with cars coming and going for spaces to become free.

The meal, I have no problem with at all. Well cooked meats, sides substantial and what you expect from a Toby. However, the service was absolutely shocking. When we arrived the place was very quiet, yet we had to wait over 20 mins for anyone to acknowledge our table after we had been seated. I went to the bar for drinks as no one was going to come to us. Whilst at the bar I noticed several staff just chatting away, having a great time... Just not aware of ourselves or another table in the restaurant. Meal was fine, yet when we asked for a desert for my 5 year old, we were told that the ice machine was not working... Things happen.. Understandable. However, when I asked if she could have something from the adult menu instead (still under the 2 course under 12 price)..the server simply said.. No. OK.. We move on, ok well as pretty much all the deserts are ice cream based..we decided to ask for the bill. The bill was wrong, and I flagged it.. To my detriment as they had not charged us for my daughters carvery.. More fool me.. I was attempting to do the right thing. I also reasonably stated that as they were unable to serve us a desert.. Would they discount (a very minor amount, basically the second course cost) for the inconvenience. The sever, a different one this time, said 'no it's not my fault the machine for the ice cream is broken'.. Very rude tone.. I was not best pleased.. She then stormed off, banged a table and left. We were left for an extended period of time.. Eventually my partner went round the corner to the staff 'chat zone' and asked if we could pay.. A manager type chap came over, I explained.. He said no, it's one price and you didn't have a desert.. Me.. You couldn't serve us a desert.. Round and round we go.. To his credit he did eventually knock some off the bill.. But not after we again sat for ages after he went to deliberate. I only managed to pay after walking up to the moody teenage server and asking to do so.. Her response was.. 'Go pay at the bar'.. Whilst scowling.. Horrendous attitude.. No need for it at all.. Won't be back. I mean you serve your own carvey plates...not knocking young people working but grow up please.

We go here most weeks for Sunday lunch even though Old Windsor is closer to home. We had so many bad experiences there that we go the extra few miles to Maidenhead. Food is always good and service is great and no queue, which takes an hour. I am always pleased when we are seated in the area past the carvery down the little steps as the girl in that area is always very attentive and welcoming. I don’t know her name but she has dark hair. We love this place.

My family and I have been regular visitors to the Maidenhead Toby branch now for over 15years so to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday with our family we booked for dinner. As we were waiting for our booked table to become available, I placed the drinks order for family at the bar. My husband joked that one of the drinks was for my daughter (because legally she is now allowed to have a drink in a restaurant with her parents). The bar lady said well if that's the case she can't have it but I had already ordered an apple juice for my daughter. At no point in the conversation did the bar lady even ask me how old my daughter was. I then took our drinks to our table where my daughter did take a sip from my glass to see what it tasted like. The same bar lady then rushed over to the restaurant table and grabbed the glass out of her hand and said she couldn't have that. No explanation was given and my autistic daughter was absolutely stunned. I then walked back to the bar to speak to the server who then told me legally she couldn't allow it. I then asked to speak to the manager and after she rolled her eyes she went to call him. He was seated in the bar area behind me but came over and stood behind the bar. I explained about the drink and showed him the Government guidelines but he said that drinks were served at his discretion as a manager and he refused. I said thank you and returned to my table upset that they have been so rude and hadn't even apologised for grabbing the full drink or even offering to return it to me. At no point did the manager mention Toby's drink policy. My mum (who is diabetic) went to the Carvery as she has to eat at certain times while the rest of us waited for table service to food menu items. After a further 30min of waiting it became clear that the staff were not going to serve us and my 10yr old son (also autistic) was becoming extremely upset and hungry. After my mum had finished eating my husband went to the bar and paid for our drinks and explained to the manager and staff that they could have handled the situation much more sensitively and professionally. The apology was halfhearted although they did offer the carvery portion for free. When we left the restaurant the manager and group of serving staff were leaning against the bar in a huddle and ignored us. I have never been made to feel as awful as that in a restaurant before. What a disappointment in Toby service and a ruin of what was going to be a great family celebration.

Very tacky. Booked a table by a window for my partially sighted mum and was allocated a table in a corner with no light or window . Ended up sitting in the bar. We were there for over an hour and not once was any table cleared from the bar. Dirty plates and glasses everywhere. When asked if they could be cleared was told they were too busy. It would have taken 5 minutes to clear and clean tables. All in all not a nice experience.

Just walked in without booking. Exceptional service by waitress Hannah E who seated us promptly and brought our drinks order straight away. The Turkey and Lamb were outstanding. Overall a really nice meal and great service. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

I loved going here, but a few years back I went there and I must of been waiting for a table for at least 20 minutes, by the time someone came over they said they could not find our booking and then we booked online again for the same time slot and it said we had already booked. We finally got seated and didn’t get asked if we wanted drinks for 15 minutes. Also bearing in mind our table was almost like someone had covered it in glue. We got our food and the beef looked like it had been through a tumble dryer. We sat down started eating and realised there was a side of rat. The beef was extremely chewy like an old boot.I honestly thought we were eating in a barn. They said they were really busy and apologised later to find they were the least busy of the week

We arrived at 6.15, a group of 5 adults, on a Tuesday evening. Admittedly we hadn't booked, but this hasn't been a problem before and they were not busy with plenty of free tables. We were told that they were not taking walk-ins as they were short on MEAT and they turned us away! Unbelievable - it's a carvery! Appalling service, or lack of.

We booked the Toby Carvery, Maidenhead for 20.15 on a Saturday night for my daughter’s birthday. There were 4 of us in total. When we got there at 8, we waited to be seated but it took a number of minutes for staff to even acknowledge we were there. A very nice gentleman said we hadn’t booked so we showed the emailed reservation. Then he said he didn’t think they had enough food to serve us. There was no genuine apology or explanation. I would question any restaurant that didn’t have food for a confirmed booking on a Saturday night. Perhaps staff want to get away early? We usually love to visit but this experience was not up to their usual higher customer service standard.

We were served by a fantastic chef called Paulo who went out of his was to make sure that we were comfortable as guests and our dietary requirements were met! The Yorkshires were amazing too!!

Visited after 2pm. Joints and vegetables were not as fresh as it could have been. Service was poor due to waitress ending shift and we were forgotten. Shame because overall we had a stisfactory lunch.

Proper toilet, hardly any staff, cold food, very poor deserts, took ages to get a drink. People were walking out We shall never return.

O)n thursday19th October we went to this Toby Carvery , all the signs were lit showing it was open, we parked and noticed no one in the dining area near the door but the rooms were lit as usual. The front door was locked , and no signage telling people that this venue was CLOSED. This is a disgrace on behalf of the management.

Food was amazing! Turkey was really nice and tender, service was brilliant, and I didn’t catch our waitresses name but I think we was sat on table 22. Everything was great. Thanks guys.

The only good thing about here is the potatoes!! We booked our table for 7.15 arrived on time and was there until 9.30! Its absolutely atrocious, we waited half an hour to even be seen and then we had to ask the server for the bill then she continued to wander off and pay off another table who had arrived after us. She then continued to talk to that table for the next 15 minutes. I understand that conversation making is a part of being a waiter but people have things to do other than sit and stare at the wall!

Format ruined by lack of staff, dirty floors, surfaces. No serving staff using gloves. When launched this was an interesting alternative to Sunday dining. My guess is that the restaurants are not staffed or designed to cater for the online as well as on premise customers. Management need to rethink

We went to celebrate a birthday as a family and the celebration was ruined by the rude service. The tables were not clean, we had to look for waiting staff for service and food from the carvery was dried. I will not go to this restaurant again.

Lovely food. Really helpful as I visited my 2 year old and my mother who has difficulties walking. Helped me with getting their meals which I really appreciated. Really accommodating to us which you don’t get everywhere.
