I have just heard that the Rising Sun has been closed. Well not before time! I have been a regular here on/off for over twenty years but the pub has deteriorated very badly. The staff are very rude and give priority to the locals even their dogs who are totally out of control in eating areas! My partner was sworn at by a local at the bar and told to f.....g wait her turn. The general atmosphere was poor combined with swearing from locals who seemed unable to communicate normally. After this experience and dog hairs everywhere, we decided not to eat. My advice, AVOID there are so many better places locally!

The worst service we’ve experienced for a long time. No table service, cleared our own plates, got our own cutlery, staff member answered phone whilst we were trying order food, barman always on his phone , very ordinary food. Looks like new management have really let things slip, very disappointing.

Very very disappointed after coming here many years ago for fabulous roasts we suggested this place to meet an old friend the service was non existent bordering on rude we waited ages for someone to come over only to be asked if we were ready to order food our reply was a menu and some drinks would be nice first. The food was like a frozen meal the lamb was tough and the potatoes undercooked along with the parsnip and the frozen Yorkshire wasn’t much better so very disappointing, sat there for about hour and half with empty glasses not once did anyone come over to us to ask if food was ok or did we need any more drinks, when it was time to pay we had to go to the bar and ask for the bill by somebody that obviously wished they weren’t there, we paid and left never to return unfortunately.

Was extremely disappointed having been here years ago for Sunday Roast which was always exceptional we decided to meet a long term friend that we had not seen for a long time so suggested this pub but disappointingly the service was non existent and bordering on rude, we sat for a while before someone came over and asked us if we wanted to order food and we said well a menu and some drinks would be nice first, the roast was like it was a frozen ready meal tasteless with meat that was tough and uninspiring along with the veg and frozen Yorkshire, we had to ask for salt, pepper and sauces and not once did anyone ask if we wanted another drink or if food was ok, we sat there for over 2 n half hours talking and had empty glasses for probably an hour and a half of that, as you can imagine we will not be back!!

Awful experience. Pachos, which we've had before, we're soggy, and, they arrived at the same time as our main course. 8 pieces of scampi and hard chips. Rude male member of staff, we definitely will not be returning.

We visited here last year and had a great experience. The pachos were fantastic. What a disappointment this year. Especially as they came out at the same time as our main course. The poppadoms were soggy and the toppings looked like they'd been thrown on. The scampi was ok, although only 8 pieces but the chips were hard.

We’ve been to the lovely village of Hurley many times, staying in our motorhome at the fantastic Hurley Riverside site. The Indian food at the Rising Sun pub has always been good, but tonight was very disappointing. We arrived at 8-50 pm, just before the kitchen closed, and ordered two meals and drinks. My wife’s meal arrived promptly, but she had eaten half of hers’ before we asked where mine was. The server told us that he thought we’d only ordered one meal. We reordered my meal, which we were told would not be charged, to find out soon (smart phone bank apps!) that it was. The meal I was served was a hot lamb Jafresi, not the Biriani I’d asked for. I couldn’t eat it, and told them so. When challenged the server claimed that he had to charge all meals served, even after he’d lied that it would not be charged. I hate being lied to. We were given a couple of drinks, but nowhere near the value of the food, and I missed out on dinner. We will not be going to the Rising Sun again.

Was there on 02/07/24 Have eaten there before and was good. This time I was very disappointed. Pie and pint night but had no pies! So tried their curries. Samosas ok. Onion bhaji cold in the middle. Prawn curry was the worst meal ever. Bowl of brown curry sauce with some prawns thrown in. Rice and a soggy poppadoms. Ate some paid and left. What has happened to this pub?

Home made steak pie was exceptional. £20 for the main course, a starter and a pint is amazing value. Starters were OK, but the pie was the star - with mash veg and a jug of excellent gravy. . Only the limited selection of drinks was an issue, both ciders were off sale. Pleasant beer garden and dog friendly. A pub I’d happily return to.

Smashing pub in the wonderful village of Hurley. Popped in today for a Diet Coke en route to Henley on foot (stupid idea!) and was hugely impressed by the welcome from Mandi. Foolishly, I hadn’t packed a charger for my 20 mile walk, although one of the staff proffered me theirs whilst I was there. The menu looked superb, and the smells from the kitchen were amazing. I very much intend to return as a diner, rather than a trekker, sooner rather than later.

AWFUL & UNEXCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE So staying at the Olde Bell Inn for the weekend, we thought that we would have a few drinks in the Rising Sun pub next to the hotel. We arrive 5 minutes early. So we saw a sign saying entrance via the garden, so we entered and sat in the garden waiting the 4 minutes to open. 11:59 hrs the doors opened and I walked towards the entrance Only to be questioned by a male member of staff ; Why was I there sat in the garden Sarcastically say can I help you….. I responded Yes I would like a drink. He responded by saying you shouldn’t be sitting in the garden , we don’t open until 12:00hrs . Awful mannerisms and attitude. I felt that I was unwanted. So myself and wife walked away. Disgusted at the way we were treated. Rude and unacceptable , licensing officer to be made aware . I’m not sure if the person I spoke too was staff or the landlord. But he didn’t give a welcoming experience. CERTAINLY NOT ONE I WOULD EXPECT FROM A LICENSEE OR STAFF. I have never experienced anything like it. Therefore I would not go there again or recommend this place. .

Visited Friday night for a drink with friends and to see a band that they had on! When we got to the venue we found out that the band had been cancelled which I found strange we had travelled a fair distance to see the band! Drinks were a reasonable price service was excellent and the Landlady and Landlord were very welcoming! As we were staying in the area we returned to eat on the Saturday food was very nice and well priced steak pie & chips and “for the daring” pizza hot but very nice plus soft drinks about £30ish great value for money! My only complaint was no WiFi in this day and age it’s an essential offering to have for your customers! The pub is a bit of a dead zone for mobiles made worse by not being able to WiFi call!

We went for the take away option which was a bad choice. Food was of a basic fast food service standard and definitely not pub grub. Scampi was processed and not whole tail which I'd expect from a pub, especially being in Hurley. Kids nuggets were pale and rubbery, curry was basic microwave standard. We did not get the free drinks or desserts which you would if you ate in and they also forgot to give us the 10% discount for collecting the food as stated on the website. I did however call them to ask about the discount. They apologised and I was refunded but this did mean I had to go back out to get it.

Table booked for 7 eventually got served at 8.30! Fishcake starter was rubbery and tasteless and did not resemble fish cakes at all. Satey starter came with chilli sauce as they'd run out of satey sauce so was not actually a chicken satay! The lamb curry tasted lovely and the lamb tender but half the dish was filled with 2 huge chunks of potato and a quarter of a large tomato. The rice accompaniment was a solid rubbery block. No steaks on menu the twice we went there. Definitely not the standard of food we've enjoyed on previous holidays. With friends visiting we decided on the Rising Sun for Sunday lunch as we'd had very good meals there on several other occasions but hadn't tried their Sunday roast. Well what an excellent choice! The service, as always, was attentive, the Rebellion beer excellent and the food delicious. Various starters were chosen including garlic mushrooms, soup of the day and a novel yet very tasty take on Bubble & Squeak, served wrapped in bacon and topped with a poached egg & hollandaise sauce. This was followed by the main event, roast lamb for half the group & roast beef for the other half, both of which were faultless. Served hot with plenty of veg, excellent roast potatoes & Yorkshire puddings, a generous helping of meat and topped with a very tasty gravy. Meals at the Rising Sun are also excellent value for money, with the two course Sunday Roast costing £15.95. Highly recommended but make sure to book as it was busy and we saw several people turned away due to no tables being available.

Dropped on here after a walk last Saturday and even though it was busy the staff found us a table outside (which was reserved for later on) - The garden is nice and dog friendly. The menus are pub classics however their salad offerings were a little bit different - I can vouch for the Moroccan Falafel Salad and the Mango, Parma Ham and Halloumi (ok mixing 3 different cuisines but it works and that's the main thing) They did a good job serving us under the busy circumstances and I' recommend you give it a try

We visited for lunch on the off chance during a sunny day out walking the Thames. We had a lovely table in the sheltered garden. Service was excellent - friendly and prompt. The pub was Covid safe without being over the top like some pubs. We both had the Rising Sun burger which was superb. The Rebellion IPA was one of the best cask beers we have had for a long time. This lunch made a great day even better and we will definitely visit again soon.

We recently visited The Rising Sun for the third time in the last month, and yet again had a lovely time. The food is always very good, particularly the pizzas & burgers, the service is excellent, the staff polite & attentive and the social distancing & Covid measures very well managed, so a previous comment about how this is being managed is very much wide of the mark. Highly recommended!

We had a long and lazy lunch here during a recent trip on the Thames. We had a lovely table in the garden that easily accommodated us and our two large hounds, and the service and COVID arrangements were well thought ought and implanted. We enjoyed our lunch in the sun, washed down with some good beer. It was great to be able to do this again and feel normal. Good pub grub, good beer, lovely pub. Thank you
