A café inside the hotel overlooking the River Thames, an excellent place to stop and rest and enjoy a tea session with some pies or small sandwiches and cakes with English tea or coffee, during your trip in Melrow, and enjoy the river.

The restaurant location and the view is amazing, but the restaurant manager is dealing with customers like they going to eat for free, the way he dealt with us was disgusting.in the other hand the hostess “Hulya” was amazing and trying to help us through the situation.. Anyway if that manager still there I will not come to this place again

We dropped into here for lunch yesterday as we were in Marlow anyway. We didn’t specifically plan to have lunch here but glad we did. The staff were pleasant, attentive and our waiter (Om) greeted us and made us feel welcome. We both chose plant based dishes from the menu, I had the cauliflower steak and my partner went for the grilled aubergine, both were really good…… We’d like to return and maybe have dinner instead next time. This place has an amazing location next to the river.

Both food and service were exceptional. Hulya went above and beyond to cater to every need and took some amazing photos for us! Absolutely will be passing on the recommendation to friends and family alike.

I visited the place in the morning, but it was serving breakfast even though I had breakfast at the hotel. Thank God, the employee helped me and allowed me to have tea and pancakes on the river.

Lunch in the Riverside restaurant was good, with attentive service. The location right next to the river is lovely and in fine weather outside seating is available. The location of the hotel next to Marlow bridge is very scenic.

The service is surprisingly shockingly bad, and the food mediocre, for such a beautifully located restaurant. Staff were not particularly welcoming (defensive and asking where we were going rather than offering to help us find the restaurant and table), the service was phenomenally slow given there were four main meals on the Sunday lunch menu, including for drinks. Inexplicably the children’s food arrived about 15 minutes after all the adults’, on piping hot plates and the food itself was overcooked. One main order was incorrect, not switching mash for chips. In one hour and 45 minutes we managed to order and eat just one course, and as a result skipped coffee and dessert. Loved the location, might go back for drinks, but will give the restaurant a miss. It’s definitely far from what it was several years ago.

The waiter was in a hurry and I couldn't even tell him the order he was making. He took the menu from my hand and left. The food is very bad, there is no taste, and it comes according to what the chef wastes. There are no options, and the amount is very high for the quality of the food. I booked online. Why do I have to pay 90 pounds because I will be sitting on the balcony, which was very dirty and had cobwebs everywhere, and the sun was shining, and there were no umbrellas?

The staff, service, views, atmosphere, all great, and the price tag is set to match. The food was very good, I’d skip dessert next time as it’s bought in and not fresh.

Frankly, the service is very bad. I saw a veiled woman change her table and let her take her things, cups and tea??!! We waited for half an hour for him to bring the menu, and when he gave it to us, he quickly said, “Order.” He left and never came back. We did not sit down. The place was very, very bad. The view was beautiful, but the waiters were all dry and bad. I would not recommend it.

A nice and nice experience, but the menu has no prices, which is strange and the prices are very high, but the view is nice and I feel that the place needs cleaning and more attention in the outside area because many places and lights are covered by spider nests.

Dire… came to the Compleat Angler here several years ago before they opened the Indian Restaurant and started receiving bus loads of tourists coming in and the place had lost its spark and finesse. We ate in the Riverside Restaurant. The waiters are polite but the food is average at best and the prices steep. A simple Pimms and Lemonade was £14.50 which we thought was too off. The men’s toilets were also a disgrace… Much nicer places to eat but if you want to sip champagne overlooking the river as an experience then it’s worth a visit but Sunday Roast was poor…. Sadly will be our last visit here…

I was taken to this restaurant by a friend for a champagne tea as a birthday gift. All I can say is if you have any kind of mobility issue definitely don't go here. I was confronted with a ramp up a step several inches high. Very difficult to go up – impossible to come down. Of course, no handrail. The solution was distressing and humiliating. The food and service was not much either.

Nice sitting on the river. The most important thing is that you must book before you come so that they will give you a table on the river. Tea with baked goods per person is £40. We are 4 people. We ordered two and they agreed.

Setting of restaurant lovely but the main course of roast beef at £28.50 per head was shockingly poor. Meat tough and almost inedible, everything else soggy and tasteless We bought two glasses of wine which cost more than a bottle. The whole meal was grossly overpriced and frankly I was embarrassed as I had two gentlemen guests from New York and had been told the food was good. The staff at the hotel were exemplary - kind and courteous.

We had a pleasant afternoon tea in the Riverside Restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was good. However, our afternoon was spoiled by the fact that the disabled access was very poor. A steep ramp was provided for my friend to get up the quite high step to the restaurant. My friend uses a rollator and she was left feeling humiliated and in a lot of pain trying to get up/down the ramp. I feel the hotel was paying lip service to their obligations to provide disabled access! Won’t be going there again!

Hulya was brilliant, we watch short video about the place and then came here. It was better than expected. Really worth the trip

We went there for brunch/afternoon tea. The place is amazing. Right next to the waterfalls. But, the service was so slow and messy, the food was ok.

Despite prebooking no reserved table. The waitress didn't know what the specials were. After 1 hour a jug of tap water finally arrived, after 1 hour & 20 mins our starters arrived with drinks. After many requests for help our main courses arrived after 2 hours, perhaps left standing as overcooked & barely warm & fish appeared to have been frozen. Desserts took over 15 mins to arrive. Lastly the ladies toilets were disgusting,overflowing bins & a wet floor. The cost for this dismal 3 hour experience was at least twice what we would expect to pay for quality food & this wasn't.

After having been told that Dogs were ok Especially if you’re a hotel guest . It transpires that means only in the bar and the gardens. These are both a risk because the service falls through the floor in the bar and the weather 🌦️ in this country unreliable at best ! Food was nice , parking was easy ( you must register when entering though very simple ). Staff pleasant ! But it’s not an event is just nice 👌

The Turkish employee when she sees Arab people being offered the most expensive prices I saw in the online menu the price of afternoon tea is 30 per person and we paid 40 for it and she said we can't sit at the outside tables until you order a lot of things

We visited the Riverside Restaurant this lunchtime and really enjoyed our afternoon there. We were particularly impressed by the very friendly and attentive service from Arjun and Abin, who we felt are a real asset to the restaurant. Thanks to both of you! An excellent meal at The Riverside Restaurant on the 4th March with a superb table overlooking the river. The experience was topped off with our efficient and friendly waiter, Chanadru, who provided an attentive service and engaged in pleasant conversation with us.

We spent a week at the Compleat Angler Hotel. Downstairs is a pretty restaurant with views of the historic Marlow Bridge and literally on the Thames. The service was amazing, everyone was so helpful and kind. My husband and I would like to especially recognize Hulya. She made our week extra special. Her positive attitude, beautiful smile and suggestions made our meal times extra special. She is such a wonderful asset to the establishment. Amazing customer service. Wonderful service from Vincento and Raj as well. A sincere thank you from two happy Americans!!!

Having suffered nausea, uncontrollable shaking and violent vomiting after having afternoon tea at the Riverside restaurant my complaints have been ignored despite several emails and phone calls. Apparently an independent company were supposed to look into the incident but I have heard nothing. I have given the restaurant several opportunities to apologise, to refund the cost of the meal and ensure this never happens to anyone with allergies again. They have failed in every respect. Do not eat here if you have any allergy or intolerances.

Very disappointing breakfast experience. Based on our visit, I would not recommend for dinner. Shown to table but not provided a menu. After a few minutes I had to go to the front desk to request menus. Waited at least another 5 minutes before staff came over to take our breakfast order. Coffee (cafetierre) was extremely weak (waitress whispered to us that it was cheap coffee). Cooked breakfast was terrible. Bacon dry and over-cooked. Sausages burnt. Grilled tomatoes burnt. Beans lacked flavour. Potato "scone" tasteless. All served on a plate that was barely warm so food was soon cold, though most was not eaten. Other guests were also complaining about the over-cooked food. Not a great advertisement for a restaurant that is supposedly high quality. Will not be returning.

Service was very good . David the maitre d’ was very attentive and friendly. Location by the weir is fantastic. It would have been nice if lights outside had been on. The food was overall good. The starters were really nice and well presented particularly the cullen skink. Most of the main courses were great particularly the Aubergine and Sherherd’s pie. The fish and chips weren’t great the batter being soggy and the chips being tasteless frozen chips Overall however a pleasant experience with a good range on the wine list

What a lovely treat afternoon tea and champagne in the lovely riverside restaurant. Wonderful service, particularly from the delightful Hulya who helped to make it such a special birthday and anniversary celebration.

For our 59th wedding anniversary, we went for lunch at the Compleat Angler, Marlow on 30 October. We were served by a delightful lady and shared news of her family and life in Marlow generally. We chose the Compleat Angler as it was somewhere we used to go over 60 years ago when we were courting! Oh but how times have changed! When we returned home yesterday from our anniversary holiday, there was a PARKING TICKET for parking in the hotel car park for just over an hour! With a fine of £100 if we didn't pay up! We did not see any notices and there was no-one on Reception - to either greet us or tell us about the terrible and expensive crime we had committed. It's gone 11am and the Manager Sarah Murray has yet to arrive. The UKPC organisation has no way of disputing other than by letter or email. What a terrible outcome to a once-happy memory of the Compleat Angler at Marlow ... so very sad indeed (and also a bit cross!).

Booked for lunch, and due to the weather we were able to have a table on the terrace overlooking the Thames and the Marlow Bridge. We were warmly welcomed by Franco at the bar, who certainly must be a great asset to this hotel, he was so attentive and very informative as to the local beers and lagers available. Halula was our waitress who again was very attentive, and gave first class customer service. The food was well presented and of a good standard. We enjoyed our experience so much that we have since booked for Festive Lunch prior to Christmas.

Chose this well-regarded restaurant for a Sunday pre-birthday lunch, and it was a crushing disappointment. Dry roast chicken, undercooked vegetables, tasteless and a very poor selection,. £22 may not sound unreasonable for a roast chicken lunch, but if it tastes like a TV drummer from a foil tray, it’s not good. The monkfish was tasteless, the selection was poor, and it took 20 minutes to bring the bill. Very disappointing!

My mum and I went for afternoon tea at the riverside restaurant, and we’re waited on by the most loveliest waitress named Hulya. She was so attentive and friendly and really made our experience so special and memorable. Thank you so much, I would highly recommend you visiting and if Hulya is working you will certainly have a great time!

The waiters were helpful but the food was disappointing, the 35 day dry age steak had very little flavour and it was very hit and miss with a gluten free option. The pudding was disappointing, overall it was a disappointing experience and will not return.

Despite reading the recent not so good reviews I decided to bring the family here to celebrate Mum's 98th Birthday. It was our first visit and chose this venue as the location looked lovely. The menu choices were quite standard, I chose a very good calamari and my brother had an excellent vichyssoise. For mains we went for the monk fish & pork belly with several sides. All good and mains priced between £20-£30 as expected for such a venue. The staff were great and made Mum's day, especially when they brought out a nicely decorated dessert. I look forward to returning to this venue.

A little disappointing overall, it is definitely a great setting and the service was good but the food on this occasion was nothing to shout about. I have had better from our local Indian restaurant!

A-V-O-I-D / In the spring of 1979, I had my engagement party at this restaurant/hotel. It was a great venue, then. Over the years I used this place many times. Occasionally the service was not excellent, but certainly not as lousy as today. We turned up at 14:15 (Sunday afternoon). I asked for a table for 4 people. “Have you booked”, the manager asked!? “Sorry, I didn’t, but the place is empty”, I replied. To which the manager said “you don’t know if it will fill up later on”!?!? [See pictures]. It sounds like he didn’t know himself but he certainly didn’t want to work. We sat in the garden at the front of the hotel and bought a few drinks. We paid, at the bar, £32 for one gin+tonic, 2 tonic waters and one bottle of local beer. We asked for the menu – we never got one. Our table was also not cleared from the previous customers [see photo of wine bottle and coffee cup]. We were totally ignored by the staff and even those at the bar were very unfriendly. One hour later I took more pictures (place still empty) and we left to go and eat at the St George & Dragon in Wargrave, where we received an excellent service.

Terrible food… the crispy squid was soggy, the Monkfish was small and just sitting on some cold raw vegetables. It was like stepping into a restaurant of the seventies, dark, drab. The seating area next to the river was narrow with no umbrellas. We were kindly refunded for our lunch

Just a brief note of sincere appreciation for the kindly and courteous personal attention we were given yesterday by our waiter dealing with our large party for tea. He would be a credit to any organisation and I would certainly come again .

Have not been to this hotel in 8 years so I was looking forward to revisit. We had a reservation for Sunday lunch and was immediately welcomed upon our arrival by reception staff. The restaurant has stunning views of the river and the food matched. The Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding was delicious and they kindly provided me with lots of extra gravy. The service was excellent. As soon as we were seated they took our drinks order and provided fresh bread rolls. All the staff were just so friendly and engaging. Only thing missing was the sunshine. I hear they are having a refurb next year....can't wait to go back

Let's start with what this restaurant is not, a high street set menu place. We arrived when the chef hadn't decided what will be on the menu and was giving his ideas. That culminated in a 3 by 3, 3 course meal selection that was beautifully cooked and presented. If you are looking for a chef plying a craft and respect that in order to do that the choice must be based on available ingredients and a reasonably small choice then you will love this restaurant and its setting. We did and would definitely go back.

Went for Sunday Lunch only had set menu had no children’s menu for our 6 year old granddaughter and charged £45 for food that she did not enjoy. The menu was very poor and had to wait 15 minutes for the bill which was £260 for four of us 👎👎

We sat inside near the open window overlooking the river. The views are amazing and the staff very friendly. Food and wine were delicious. Can definitely recommend this place although the lunch menu was limited.

We went for afternoon tea very disappointing my friend is pescatarian she asked if the chicken could be swapped for plain cheese the chef refused so she doubled up on cream cheese Her sandwich came with one made from the crust of the bread . Some of the cakes were very bland. Waiters were lovely and helpful and kept the tea topped up but I have had far better afternoon teas elsewhere and I won’t be going back

1st meal out since the easing of lockdown. A wonderful afternoon tea, sat outside overlooking the river/bridge. Such good value, great service, attentive but not intrusive, very friendly. The food was perfect, not too rich, very good choice of teas, the Assam & Fig were perfect. Every effort was made to be welcoming right from the meet and greet when we arrived. Had to alter the sandwich choice slightly due to an intolerance issue, that was dealt with extremely efficiently with no disruption. I would definitely visit again, a perfect start to eating out!
