Three of us, we ordered one steak medium rare, two lamb, one medium rare one medium. They turned up all hopelessly over cooked. My friend kept her lamb as very hungry but afterwards agreed this was a mistake as lamb was cooked to leather. Sent steak and other lamb back. Next time the medium rare lamb was still over cooked and was at best medium. The steak was if anything more over done than before and was abandoned. When we complained about the cooking the Duty Manager, Gwen, claimed the food was over cooked because of the lighting difference between the table and the kitchen. Intrigued we pursued this for more detail, was there a problem with the kitchen lighting? Apparently that was fine but the meat was over cooked because of the poor light where we were sitting. We pointed out we were sitting by the front window with the light streaming in, eventually she backed down and said she had been mistaken to mention the lighting as an excuse (I guess this bizarre story has worked for her before when people are sitting in a darker area). We asked for the bill, the waitress brought it and literally threw it at the table and stomped off. Clearly complaining about poorly cooked food is not popular with some of the staff. Terrible meal though the evening was entertaining with a flustered Gwen trying to explain how the lighting stopped the chef cooking meat properly.

A friend and I had lunch on Monday 19th August we had pie with seasonal vegetables, the pie was really lovely, the vegetables were green beans and tender stem broccoli, the beans were over cooked, the tender stem broccoli had only been shown the water they were hard and unable to cut, they were replaced with carrots and green beans, again the beans were soggy and overdone, the carrots were so hard you couldn’t cut them, my suggestion to the Kings Arms is find a chef that is able to cook vegetables, I like my vegetables el dante not raw

Recently visited the Arms of the Kings. I must say it was a truly eye opening experience. Never had one experienced such attentive service. The food was akin to that of a 3 start Michelin restaurant. Every bite of my pork belly was pure heaven. I will be back with immediate affect. The kindest of regards, Thomas Sewell (MBE)

We went to the pub for a celebratory lunch. We had to wait ages to be served disappointing meals all round. Burgers and sandwiches were served on stale bread. The prawn sandwich was stuffed with battered prawns… strange combo. Overall very poor and disappointing experience.

A lovely, welcoming location with plenty of character in a good way. The only slight surprise, given its cultural significance for those who know, is that there didn't seem to be a plaque commemorating the fact that popular Thunderbirds character, Parker, was inspired by a wine waiter that used to work at this very pub

A big pub with lots of different alcove, areas and dining spaces. Thursday evening very quiet around 6.30pm Very few staff on duty Ordered at bar, paid on ordering 45 minutes wait for food, once served no check back to see if everything is OK. Sat with dirty plates till searched for staff to clear away A £4.59 wilted side salad was served in small pot, slightly bigger than a garnish that would expect with a sandwich. Very poor Appreciate hardship of hospitality sector but over all disappointed 😕

We've always enjoyed the King's Arms in Cookham but this time I found the restaurant was cold but the service was incredibly warm and friendly. Food was underwhelming and I was glad we had a 50% off voucher as I would have been dissapointed paying full price. Rotisserie chicken was dry, Fillet steak had no seasoning and served with a disc of frozen butter. Belly pork was mostly fat although the whole plate was changed when asked for which was appreciated. I feel the food used to be of high quality but last few time we've left feeling dissapointed.

Unfortunately for the money we paid for Christmas dinner it was somewhat disappointing. Overcooked vegetables (they weren’t green anymore!), roast potatoes weren’t crispy, very thin gravy and it was clear that everything had been plated up in advance before service as it wasn’t hot: The scallop starter had been left under the heatlamps on the pass too long and had gone a dark brown colour without any sauce left, and the soup was also tepid. If you are going to charge over £100 for a Christmas lunch the quality of the food needs to be greatly improved. I couldn’t fault the service on the other hand, everyone was really friendly and attentive. Just a shame the food didn’t meet expectations for the price. It wasn’t even up to roast dinner standard and this was supposed to be a special occasion!

Myself and table of 6 guests WANTES to leave because the food took so long to arrive & when it did arrive (at different times for everyone at the table) it was cold and/or tasted awful. Disappointing. Even the potatoes were dry. Edit in response to the commend by the owner: So you're sorry I did not consider the dry potatoes and Sunday roast acceptable but you do not consider a dry Sunday roast a problem that needs to be addressed? We started with drinks in the bar which were served quickly and with good customer service. After being seated our food order was taken promptly. The food came out shortly after and it was hot and fresh. I had the pizza which was really nice with a side of crispy onion rings. They were so crispy and stayed this way for over half an hour. A lot of people went for the Dirty Burger with raving reviews. The atmosphere is very cozy with real fires to keep warm. There are various rooms so suitable for small or large groups. I was in Cookham for the first time in 30 years for my father's memorial service. In the 80s and 90s The Kings Arms was our family's favourite restaurant and we had lunch there most weekends. In those days it was a Beefeater. I was very impressed by the sympathetic, beautiful interior decor. I was particularly amused to find the Ladies' lavatories in exactly the same place! They were significant to me for two reasons: first because they were the first toilets I had to be brave enough to go to on my own as a five year old dining with my newly divorced Father and brother (so unable to use the Gentlemen's lavatories) and second because I used to hide in them when my Father gave the staff feedback on how they could improve (frequently highlighting the fierce competition between Beefeater and Berni in those days). It was the perfect venue for my cousin's family and my family to relax after the service. We were very grateful to be able to eat a cooked meal at 3:30 before a long drive back to Devon. The menu was broad enough to cater for all ages in our party (of 8). The food was delicious. The staff were delightful. If were lived closer we would be back regularly. Thank you so much.

Worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had. We booked for 6pm - when we arrived, only roasts left were pork belly and veg option. We ordered pork belly and one veg. Pork belly arrived with an inch deep piece of fat - when removed there was little meat. Veg was overcooked, potatoes were small and dry and Yorkshire pudding resembled a small frisbee. All was cold and tasteless. When we complained, we received a replacement meal, this time we got pork crackling. The meal was much like the previous one although warmer with the fat removed from the pork. The potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were truly awful. The pork crackling was good but that’s where it ends. We’ve eaten here a number of times and it was always ok but the quality this time was shocking.

I do not normally leave negative reviews but after 4 weeks of complaining to the brands Head Office with no response from the Regional Manager I am left with no alternative. A Sunday lunch booked for 10 to celebrate a family members 30th and her return from Australia for a visit. Food was absolutely awful, the Belly Perk was inedible, Roast duo of beef was a slice of Sirloin served with a small piece of the top piece of rib, Yorkshire Puddings flat, Vegetables watery, bottomless gravy non existent as came at end of meal, no accompaniments offered with the roasts and overall a terrible experience. I complained to duty manager who tried to fob me off by saying she would note my criticisms. Asked for Head Offices number which never materialised. Had to complain further to ask for an explanation why such a place like this could serve such food. Was talking to manager and head chef in doorway to kitchen, as opened by the manager, to raise my concerns further about quality and also a date sticker found in vegetables , when a young waiter came up to me and stood in my face calling me a a rude name. Seeing red I asked for his name and was told we do not give names in the event of a complaint, as they would deal with if I raised further. Again I demanded the name of the Regional Manager and was given the details on a torn piece of paper by another duty manager . When challenged to ask what she thought of the food, she admitted it was not good, so I asked why she served it to us. No response. At this time I was then threatened by another customer inviting me to take my complaint outside. Yes I was angry, I will admit. I am 65 , been in the Hospitality Industry for over 50 years, starting at the Savoy and ending up as a regional director for a division of one of the largest catering companies in the world. 2 other members of the family also in the hospitality industry. To be abused by a young waiter who obviously does not understand what the word he used means with no respect for his elders was the final straw.

We were given menus, so we made our choices only to be told one of our choices wasn’t available. Made another choice but that wasn’t available. This was 7.00 p.m on a Friday evening and a booking not a walk-in. The squid looked more like pork scratchings and was hard and chewy. Main course (special) seemed to be lacking the accompanying vegetables but perhaps they had run out of those too. The rib eye steak was greasy with a strange soggy, what appeared to be a lump of onion on the plate. For the cost is was very poor. We made our opinions known and whilst given profuse apologies we observed other guests were complaining too. It’s particularly sad as this was a gift bought for us for a special occasion.
