Amazing price of £10 for three courses on a fish Friday. The service was efficient, food good and ambience fine. We can't work out how the Star Inn can keep the prices so very reasonable. Definitely recommend and will visit again if in the area.

I can honestly say the food in this pub/restaurant is amazing, the quality is top class, tasty, good quality and just the right amount of portions. The service is quick and they’re really nice. I would highly recommend this place and we’ll definitely be back real soon!

Great place, booked for our mother's birthday, there was 8 of us, food was great no complaints drinks good, we said it was mum's birthday and when her pudding came out they had put a candle in it and sang happy birthday to her, we all thought it was very thoughtful of them, had a great time, food was served quickly and very nice, definitely recommend

Shocking family meal, food awful. Shame as previous chef was very good which is why we chose to get together there.

Was looking forward to a nice beer and food after a long walk, and to relax whilst the kids played in the playground at the back of the pub. The bench seats where all really low and uncomfortable, so everyone grabbed a chair. To be fair the garden area was a bit of a mess, with litter and clutter strewn about. No ale at this point which I was disappointed about. So I asked about the pie and whether it has shortcrust or puff pastry. Was told shortcrust which pleased me. When it turned up it was a microwaved pukka pie like you get in a chip shop wtaf.... Everyone else's food was appallingly bad, it's all just microwaved.. So yes, very disappointed. Kids loved it though, they'll probably want to go back...

I like this place for its great priced menu and deals that it offers. My daughter loves this place for their ability to cook a blue steak. Service is quick and friendly.

On holiday for the first time in the area and came for Sunday lunch with friends. Glad we booked because it was full when we arrived. Obv a really popular place. Good pub grub, and well priced menu. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Cheap and cheerful, lovely roast dinner and usually stop on the way to cooden beach for a swim or passing on my motorbike. Really nice atmosphere and nice setting for the pub.

On entry was met with a smile and seated very quickly. 12 of for family lunch. Waitress who served us was excellent. Genuine, warm smile and listened. My daughter who is dairy, gluten and starch intolerant, set a tough task for them but after a discussion with the chef they came up with a special meal. Once ordered the meals were served quickly and efficiently. The only problem was the food which although an excellent price and large portions, was basic. I may be wrong but I believe that 90% of it was from catering packs, Three of the party had roast and some of the potatoes were sightly frozen in the middle. Also think some of the food was mixed, eg could smell fish on chips although none of us had fish. Overall, loved the ambience and service but disappointed with the food. The portions were huge and we felt that smaller portions with better quality ingredients would have been a better compromise.

We visited on the Tuesday evening of our holiday for a family meal. Due to social distancing we had to join a queue to eat in the garden. Then join another queue to do a kind of drive in service where you order your drinks...

We all had scampi and it was very nice. Good procedures in place for COVID. Excellent parking area and we sat in the very large beer garden. Waitresses were calm and helpful.

Came here as was just pasting throw the area. The building its self old and vintage looking. Had me three course meal with my wife and it didn't disappoint. Well cooked food I must say and not to long of wait which was even better. The price tho was amazing the value compared to what you get is not disappointing. I can't rate this place too highly. The location is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit. The menu is varied to cater for all tastes, the food on my visit was cooked to perfection and the service was first class. Value for money scores a 10/10.I live nearby and this was my first visit but rest assured I will be going back many more times.

Fifth visit and we had the £8 deal. Really tasty garlic mushrooms with Stilton. Main course fillet steak which was also lovely. All six of our party were delighted with our £8 three course meal. The girls who served us were very nice and attentive. Well done The Star once again

Cant believe how cheap there meals arefor quality meals. They had an offer of 3 courses for £8., with great choices. I had garlic mushroom starter, pork calvados, my pork was a good 1 1/2 inch thick pork steak. Dessert i had profiteroles, which was 5 large profiteroles with ice cream and a flake. Staff were pleasant and friendly.

Hav3 been here quite a few times. Just as a couple and with friends also 15 of us always good service and no complaints about food.

We had Sunday lunch here with six of ours friends and we were not disappointed. The food was first class and the service was very good. If you enjoy a hearty meal at a very good price, this is the place to come.

Staying in Sussex with my Mum and she mentions this place for us to visit. I ring to book for Sunday lunch and we get a table for 2pm.

Had not been to this restaurant for quite some time, previously it was adequate but slightly lacking overall. However this time was a different story, it has been acquired by another well thought of local concern and the general improvement is noticeable . We were a fairly sizeable party of 14 people with an age range between 1 year and 75, the attitude and helpfulness of the staff was superb and coped with all our needs and requirements cheerfully.

We went for Sunday lunch, not the most posh romantic place to dine, but cheap, good food that is served with a smile. Can be crowded as coaches come to visit at times.

I must have gone to a different venue to the review that said it was really poor. I don't like paying a lot of money for a little bit of cold nothing on a plate. I like value for money. We had an excellent three course meal. Mine was £8 . This was good value. Nice food and the waiting staff were pleasant and attentive. Cheap food doesn't have to be rubbish and my meal proved this. I am a cook and cook from scratch and it came up to my high standards

I guess much depends upon exactly what you are after when you go out for lunch. Many people will like this kind of place because its cheap and in their worlds, fish is fish, a burger is a burger and ice cream is ice cream. There is no difference between any different types and therefore the cheapest one is what they seek. That theory manifests itself well at The Star as they have an ongoing offer of a three course meal for ten pounds from a set of available food options. Sadly for us, we were taken there by my in laws and I’m afraid to say that there is nothing at all to recommend about it. The ten pound business model necessitates a need to keep costs down and that means poor quality food and poorly paid/trained staff. It’s all there to see. I started with pate which came with two limp pieces of packet bread and a slice of orange. It was awful. I then had cod fishcakes with chips. The fishcakes were clearly Iceland style frozen and deep fried, as were the chips and it came with a pot of a kind of Ratatouille sauce which had no place whatsoever served with fishcakes and chips. I then had ice cream which had crystallized having clearly been left out of the freezer too long. From the outside it looks like a nice old fashioned pub, but as soon as you go in there will be a massive queue for drinks due to lack of staff. If you think £62 for four people including a drink each is good value and you couldn’t care less about the quality of the food or service, then this is the place for you. Otherwise............keep away.

Went here for a family lunch time meal.3 course meal for £10.3 of us had garlic mushrooms and 1 had tomato & pepper soup for starter.all very nice .for main meal we had nutroast ,steak cheese and bacon burger & chicken stacked with bacon.all excellent meals .came out very quick and hot.for pudding we had ice cream , lemon cheese cake , chocolate brownies. All very nice .could not fault the place .very quick to take the orders and to bring food out .freindly staff.will definitely go back again

Friends took us here while we were on a visit to Eastbourne. It's a lovely old pub full of character. The food is very good and so is the service. The value for money is excellent with plenty to choose from on the menu. Would certainly visit again.

Fitted in for late lunch even without a booking. Amazing great menu choice with great serving staff and such a crazy offer - currently 3 courses for £10. Well worth a visit. Large seating area outside for when the weather is nicer - currently cozy indoors tables in knooks around the buildings' layout. Very quirky,

When I saw the menu saying a three coarse meal for £10 I had second thoughts most be small portions and not going to be very good Well was i wrong big portions fantastic tasting good all 4 of us had a different meal and all were great we live over a hour away but will be back a lot

Great historical pub steeped in smuggling history with great atmosphere.Food excellent & service friendly & quick considering full to capacity! Would recommend go week days as easier to book.Good parking facilities at rear & childrens' playground- very useful for parents/grandparents with children in summer.

Visited here many years ago. Not a great experience. Family get together found us here again. Glad I came back to this lovely little pub/restaurant. The food was exceptionally good value. Didn't realise that it was three courses for £10 not just the main meal. I ordered breaded prawns (delicious). Roast chicken with veg (huge portion) & Waffle for desert. Quick to the table after ordering. Hot food. Just a shame I couldn't eat it all :( The only thing that let it down were the seats. They sank when you sat on them & a few had their springs hanging out. This would not put me off going there again though.

Had a family meal yesterday from the discounted menu. Fillet steak was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. Prawn starter, very tasty ending the meal with sticky toffee pudding. Great food and good service.

We booked here for a 3 course meal and a valentines cocktail for £15 each. Was a lovely meal, the dessert was to die for. A good deal for what we got. Staff were all great however it did seem very rushed, some people were in and out in less than an hour and had their starters within 5 minutes of getting in the restaurant. It did seem like the staff just wanted us to eat our meals as quick as possible and leave to make room for other customers.

Nice old traditional style pub with good value quality food ideal for family's and couples always busy as great value food nice location with country views and garden area .

We went here for a family meal to celebrate my Grandaughters 21st birthday. (One of many celebrations). The food was very good with a varied menu. We were tucked out of the way for the celebration (our choice) as there were about 18 of us and wanted to be on our own. The food prices were very reasonable. Everyone had a really good time.We have been again since and we will be going back again.

The service was really bad, waitress didn’t offered specials of the day, then ignored us when we asked for bill. £10 for all dishes that’s why quality of food very poor :( (very dry duck and pasta- misunderstanding) Not recommended

Cannot fault the food or service here. 3 courses, this included 2 6oz fillet steak mains for £12.50 each. The steak was cooked perfectly, it just fell apart, no knife needed. Staff very attentive, without hovering over you. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Deals always available but maybe an idea to book.

I try to visit The Star a couple of times a month. Real value for money and fast service in a comfortable pub in a quiet location, being set on a winding country lane.

Their business model seems unbelievable but I guess it works as they are thriving and have been doing so for several years. We arrive on a Monday for lunch at about 1 pm and expected to find it quiet but we secured the last table in a packed pub. The reason is the pricing. All main courses are £10 and if you want a starter AND a desert they are free. If you just want a starter they are all £5 as are the deserts. If your think that means you must get small portions, you’re wrong. The food is very good and the hardworking staff are efficient and pleasant. Booking is essential and they have customers who are bused in by coach. Even with their pricing they must still make money. Worth finding

Made the great mistake of calling here on spec one sunny lunchtime. We chose from the outside menu. My wife had fish and chips whilst I went for what I thought might be a slightly healthier option; seafood platter and salad. We weren't expecting haute cuisine but the food was terrible - soaked in fat, piled high with chips and peas like cannon balls. The so called salad comprised two small strips of cucumber, two baby tomatoes (halved) and a few shreds of lettuce. Without doubt the worst pub meal we have ever had.

Had lunch sat outside there today. I ordered half a duck and the wife had something else. The £10 each deal was for a small drink, a main course and ice cream. I must admit the waitress served us before I'd even had a chance to roll a fag, which rang (microwave) alarm bells. Duck was quite nice, three roasties OK, but inedible rock hard peas. Wife ate all of hers but wasn't overly impressed. The ice cream was a cone the same as you can get in Asda for a quid for six. Waitress very nice, but an apparently quite surly bloke that takes the order and gets the drinks. Won't bother going back until things improve. Made Wetherspoons look like The Ritz.

We travelled from near Newhaven east Sussex and decided to try the star inn at pevensey. On the way I rang them to see if they had a table,, at first they were very busy I explained how far we had come and would be very disappointed so they said if we could give them 20 minutes they would try there hardest to fit us in. We arrived earlier then that but decided if they weren't ready we would just have a drink while waiting but we were ushered to our table straight away. The menu pricing great best value for money and meal in the area. 3 course meal for £8.00 ! I had pata starter , salmon in sauce with new potatoes and vegetables and the most delicious fruit crumble ever tasted with ice cream. My husband had salmon for starter, fish and chips main and ice cream to finish. Could not fault food, service and decor in any way. Well worth going.

Came here for lunch whilst camping nearby. We booked a table for lunch and the Star was doing a special (3 courses for £8). The food, service and the whole experience was phenomenal. Good portions and perfectly cooked meals. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection as was the roast dinners and the specials. The Harvey’s was excellent and well kept. My only disappointment was that we weren’t staying for longer as we would certainly eat and drink here frequently. An absolutely great find

We travelled from Hastings for lunch, got parked and went inside. We were seated at a table for two, and five minutes later a waiter came and asked if we wanted drinks - we ordered two Cokes. Ten minutes later he came and took our food order and we reminded him we had already ordered drinks. He checked and said they would be there soon. Ten minutes later, still nothing. So we had been seated for 25 minutes and not even had a drink. At this point we got up and left. The waiter saw us leaving and I just shrugged my shoulders rather than make a scene. The waiter was friendly enough and the staff seemed busy, but doing what I do not know. Also the two tables closest to us had not been cleared of plates all the time we were there. Better communication or more staff needed. We will not be returning.

Went for lunch, great value and the food was very good. There is a good selection on the menu. Only drawback is that it is hard to find, we went with family who live locally otherwise we'd never have found it!

We hadn’t been here for quite a few years so had no expectations as to how it would be. We booked for 4 adults and 2 children. As it was a Sunday, they stop taking orders at 5pm so we booked for 4.45pm

Pub is set in lovely grounds, but service and food wasn't great. The menu advertises £10 deals, but when you go inside, they make out its a restaurant, and not a pub. The food, well, the burger was a cheap tasteless , and plan looking, in a cheap white bun, and the duck salad came with more potatoes than duck, not sure why a salad has to have potatoes? The plate was overflowing with lettuce, and just wasn't appealing. For somewhere that advertises cheap food, and pretends to be a restaurant, not allowing dogs in- I think the have their marketing all wrong.........................

What a beautiful venue for a wedding my Grandaughter has just had hers there and it was poverty,All laid out to perfection and the sit down meal was lovely ,could notfault it .The Buffett was also laid out nice, I would highly recommend it

We went for Saturday Lunch , although we were late due to roadworks they had kept our table. A nice quiet corner table . There was plenty of choice and variety. I do not know how they do it for the price. The quality of the food was excellent and the service very good.

Had mushrooms starter, poached salmon main and lemon pudding on Thursday evening by the morning I had diarrhea and not feeling great, still ill on Saturday morning having been awake with stomach cramps all night. So won't be eating there ever again

I have to say value for money was well spent. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We went there for a meal and a catch up with friends. I can fully endorse this country pub/restaurant. Three course meal with a free drink cost £10.

This has the potential to be a real gem. However the cheap and cheerful £10 for three courses says it all. If you want cheap nosh then go for it but we didn’t enjoy the main menu either. Clean and cosy with cheerful staff.

Frequently go here for cheap meal, good amount of food. No complaints with their food. Staff friendly.

Just been out to Sunday lunch a family of 7. Cost £70 for main course, an ice-cream and a drink, 2 of us had filet steaks - lovely - 3 had alcoholic drinks so excellent value. We were able to sit in the garden with our dogs. We used to go here a lot when children were young. So glad we have tried again. Highly recommended.

Have eaten here a few times and came back again because of the special offer. Owned by the same people that have The Moorings. Food is very good value, but we find the surroundings dingy and the floor looks (but I'm sure isn't!) not very clean. Parking is OK. Just not interested in further visits, although we know a few friends that love it. Personal taste I guess.

Whilst the service was good, and the deal for a cheap meal is great, you have to serve decent food to warrant it.

The quantity is huge and the quality is spot on, just maybe too much. Stopped off here after a walk on the nearby beach. The fixed menu is way too underpriced for the quantity you get! My wife ordered cod and chips and got 2 X cod and a large plate of chips, and so it goes on. None of us could complain about the quantity, quality or service if we tried. We went for the £8 three course menu and it was amazing. This is truly bonkers and deserves 5 stars from a true critic. Well done.

we went to the star first time last year and oh what a find,we have now been with all our friends as the food is the best and has never let us down.if any one has any complaints about this place then all i can say is you try and find where you can get a 3 course meal for a tenner any where.i have been about 10 times now some times afternoon some times evening and it has allways been the best.we have eaten inside and out and no complaints. i use to have a bed and breakfast no matter what i did i use to get moans especially on this site.there are so many sad people out there that this site is all they look at you sad sad people

Stopped here for some lunch. We sat outside and chose something off the menu. When my husband went to order we was told we were unable to order off the main menu and it had to be off the garden menu. This had a choice of about 5/6 meals and came with a drink and an ice cream all for £10 p/p. Was a bit disappointed and felt like was penalised for sitting outside really.

The food isn't Michelin Star but it is good and filling. The service is not brilliant because it is busy and they employ too few staff. Good if you want plain food cooked well.

Visited this pub yesterday and I was made about as welcome as a turd in a pool. Had a pint of cider and one of larger. The bill came to 9.80. Never again.

The Star Inn has so many amazing offers on at the moment. We have just had another beautiful gastro lunch. The choices are so good. You can choose any starter from the main menu, then Fillet steak, or half duck,poached salmon or sea bass,and much more,then a desert from the main menu,all for£8.00. Service is superb, everyone so helpful. Food is unbelievable for the price. The Star is an 15century pub,that has been refurbed. Car park at the back.

Just went for a cycle and stopped here. Had burger and chips for around £12. Great burger and meal filled me up. Nice little Traditional style pub out of the way on Pevensey marsh. Not far from Eastbourne and Bexhill. Loads of parking.
