Lovely little pub, nice food, great service. Not a gastro pub though and location is only convenient if you're driving or are based somewhere really local. Food was good, Guiness not so good (watery and way more bitter than usual), wine was lovely. Nice play area to keep the kids entertained.

Really lovely country pub with friendly staff that are very easy to chat to and offer top notch service. Excellent menu with quality food. Decent amount of parking available, and is walking distance from the village in case there aren't any spaces left. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available, and a children's play area is on site too. TVs for live sports/music inside, and a darts area. I had The Cherry Tree Stacker burger, it's not often I'm beaten by the size of a meal so you definitely get your money's worth! Flavour was well balanced throughout, and the chips and coleslaw that comes with it were nice too. There is also a decent selection of drinks at reasonable prices.

Unfortunately my partner and I had a bad experience hear, after searching for somewhere for lunch for a while we finally came across this pub and it looked hopeful. We ordered the chicken kebabs and at £17 each we had high hopes. After waiting around half an hour we were told the food will take a little longer to ensure its cooked properly as its fresh. When the food finally came out , after taking a bite of the kebab we discovered it was raw inside. The lady was apologetic and explained her husband the chef doesn't normally do things like this. A real shame really as we left hungry and disappointed so won't return.

It was a cold Saturday afternoon in April (that awkward time after lunch & too early for dinner) when we walked in to The Cherry Tree Inn at Ticehurst. I suppose I was hoping for an open fire and a nice atmosphere. There was a fire, but it wasn't lit, and two tables if other guests. No background music, so a slightly awkward silence, and the sign in the car park had said 'gastro' pub! At that point I wanted to walk straight back out again. We had a look at the menu and my family convinced me to stay. I'm so glad they did, the food was excellent, and I suspect all cooked fresh. Fish with rustic chips and an excellent pea puree & generous sized burgers full of taste, just what we wanted. Really great food, just needs a bit if atmosphere at quite times.

Had lunch at the Cherry Tree today. The barman was great. He had just the right degree of banter with the customers and was really helpful and professional. But, knowing that this pub is under new management, we found it a great shame that the new owners did absolutely nothing to engage with their customers, in spite of flitting in and out of the bar. Pizzas estaban 45 minutos tarde. I've been here for Sunday lunch on a couple of occasions and rated it well. I've since had reason to come in on a Wednesday lunchtime with four girlfriends and our babies after being at a local mums group, we often look for somewhere for lunch and coffees afterwards. We arrived to find a young girl being shown how to pull a pint which in itself isn't alarming but perhaps explained things. There was one other party of four who appeared to be dining for lunch. I can honestly say the service was embarrassing. I ordered the "homemade sausage roll" and a cup of tea. The food was meant to have homemade chutney and salad. It arrived minus these accompaniments and two very pathetic parsnip crisps only. The tea also arrived incorrect as was earl grey and we hadn't ordered that. They replaced it but then forgot the cups. My friends soup arrived with burnt bread and the same incorrect tea. My other friends cauliflower cheese arrived after we had eaten ours. We complained and the staff did try to rectify. The gentleman that was apparently in charge was very apologetic but seemed in such a flap with only a few people to serve it was a bit ridiculous. I appreciate a group of women with babies aren't great spenders but would have been a regular weekly lunch/drinks for the pub which could have been welcome of the trade.

On Monday 26 October, we twice (just before midday and again shortly before 7pm) walked the half mile or so from where we were staying to the Cherry Tree. On both occasions, it was closed, although, according to the boards outside, it should have been open. In the evening, we repeatedly tried to call the advertised number but were cut off after the first ring each time (possibly a signal problem?). Presumably, it's very recently gone out of business. Alternative eateries in the village are the Greedy Goat cafe and the Bell Inn - both very nice.

This was the fourth time I had visited the Cherry Tree for dinner and as usual the food was delicious. However other issues let it down badly. The table needed a wipe and the floor needed sweeping - perhaps they had a busy lunch - normally I could let this go no one is perfect after all.... What I can't let go is the fact that I paid to listen to people shouting and occasionally swearing as they were hopelessly drunk at the bar and obviously linked to the restaurant. The place was empty and this was really not on. The lovely waitress seemed embrassed and given the fact that it was empty but she was chatting at the bar whilst we sat there after finishing for ten minutes before she came over indicates that that her motivation has been reduced . Everyone lets their hair down sometimes I know I do but it's a shame if you let it spoil the experience for your customers.Won't be going back which makes me sad as the chef is really talented and the place (apart from the scruffy tables that need a refurb) is lovely.

We were surprised to find that the place was nearly empty on a Saturday evening but now we probably know why... We're eaten there half a dozen time before and it's been pretty good. Tonight the food was exceptional. I haven't had such a good steak in ages. BUT sadly the table and floor were far from being clean, there were cobwebs and spiders in every corner and, to put a cap on it, there was a family group at the bar who appeared to have been in there drinking all day and were shouting and swearing the whole time. If you are going to masquerade as a gasrto-pub you need to run the place as such. Behaviour such as this would get you thrown out of any other pub in the area that I know of. We were given a discount off our bill when we complained but they didn't seem to grasp why we were so unhappy. We won't be returning any time soon which is sad as the chef knows his onions...

We had heard great things about this pub and had always wanted to visit , we read their menu online which sounded wonderful, interesting and unlike a pub and decided to treat ourselves. We had noticed recent reviews were not good but decided to judge for ourselves. On arriving a friendly girl showed us a table , gave us menu's and took our drink order. The menu bore no resemblance to the online menu , gone were the interesting nuanced dishes and some rather dull sounding unexciting food in it's place. The girl who had taken our drinks order was chatting at the bar and then wandered off , no drinks on the horizon so we decided to leave and go elsewhere , there was only one other table of customers so our drinks should have arrived and really your online menu should be what you actually serve not what you wish you could. We went to another pub in the area which was heaving with lunchtime customers, got a table and drinks in minutes and had a decent pub lunch.Very disappointed as we wanted something different and we felt very let down.

Whilst staying Ticehurst for a couple of days I did some research to see where we could walk to (after a couple of afternoon drinks) to eat that evening. The Cherry Tree did well on Trip Advisor and I looked at service times and the menu online first to see if they were doing food and it was something that we would like. So we walked 15 mins to get there within plenty of time of last food orders to be told that they had decided not to serve food on Mondays now as it was too quiet (despite turning some people away earlier in the evening too). As a table of two on a Monday evening I had not called to book, we would have been happy to wait if needed, a shame as it would have saved us 30 mins in pointless walking. Not updating websites is bug bear of mine as it saves misrepresentation. Anyway we went back to The Bell and had a lovely meal there instead!

We needed a stop for lunch, somewhere on the road towards a weekend near Hastings, and Trip Advisor came up trumps once again! We were welcomed by the girl behind the bar, who also waited our table. She was very engaging throughout, which is always a bonus. Later, we spoke with the owner, who happened to be the chef's father, and complimented him (and his son), on the experience we'd had. All 6 of us had 3 courses, and the choice was impressive, without being daunting. All the food was of a very high standard. The beers and wine flowed, and it came in at around £35 a head. Pretty fair, by any stretch of the imagination. A little bit off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. Will definitely visit again, if we're ever passing that way in the future.

We placed a drink order and went to our seats. We ordered our food and it was served to us promptly. The food was delicious. We asked for some Mayo and it seemed a little to much trouble for the person serving. We weren't asked if we'd like any more drinks even though our glasses were empty! When we left we all said goodbye but the guy behind the bar seemed a little to busy to say goodbye even though the place was pretty much empty. Overall good food but I suggest employing someone who doesn't need an attitude adjustment with a little more personality. A smile goes a long way. Employ people with personality who can smile and you'll probably see trade will improve. I'd recommending the Bell not much further up the road :-)

The staff rearranged set tables to accommodate our party of 2. The menus were a choice of a la carte or bar but you can mix and match. The food was excellent but didn't always match the menu. Don't be taken in by the landlord and his promise of an exotic leftover game curry to wet your appetite only to be told later that there was none left . I recommend this pub for its atmosphere, good ale, good food and hospitality. I wish we had one in our area.

The bar menu is quite restrictive and their burger is home-made and huge, but the dinner menu contains more interesting choices. Evidence of further investment at the pub which, nice to see, retains a pub identity as well as trying to provide good food.

I have eaten here twice in the last 6 months. Both times we have received friendly attentive service. The food has been good although my Sunday roast beef, which I had last time was a little tough but this is minor. The good service and good value for money are highly recommended. On the first visit we ate outside in the garden which makes a nice area and inside on the second visit.

Visited the Cherry Tree today and cannot speak highly enough of the restaurant. We ordered the steak burger and triple cooked chips, and everything tasted fresh and was beautifully cooked. The staff were friendly and very helpful too. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.

We recently held a family wedding party/reception at the Cherry Tree with 8 adults, two babies and a couple of Jack Russell's. We chose to use the small private room just off the main restaurant and it was beautifully laid out, just right for the occasion. Everything was just as we had requested and nothing was too much trouble. The food arrived hot and was excellent, as was the wine. Having arrived at lunchtime, we stayed well into the evening and were made very welcome. We have eaten at the Cherry tree on many occasions and are very grateful to the staff for making this such a special occasion.

Having never written a review for a restaurant or pub before, after our visit to The Cherry Tree on Saturday night, I feel compelled to do so, because we had such a lovely time! We visited for a relaxed evening meal with my in-laws, and our 3 children (6,4 & 1) and from the start were made to feel welcome (not always the case when eating out with children - even if they are well-behaved!). When booking our table reservation we were told that there was a party booking of 20 that night, so we might experience a delay. This un-deterred us, but it was nice to be told upfront. On the night we experienced an ever so slight delay on our order being taken as they got the starters out for the party booking, but this was no problem as we had been warned in advance. Even so, we were brought bread and olives on the house and an amuse-bouche by way of apology, very impressed! The landlord also came over to welcome us and chatted about how nice it was to see the children and how well behaved they were - such a nice personal touch. The food arrived promptly after ordering and was lovely. Portion sizes were just right and the ingredients locally sourced and of great quality. Particularly impressed by the homemade ketchup and mayo which the kids loved and it tasted so much nicer than out of a bottle/jar.If you are looking for a welcoming local pub with great food then this is it!

Lovely pub and great atmosphere. Great choice of menu especially since one of us is vegetarian. Food superb. Service was very slow but the landlord did speak to all the guests and explain that one of the chefs had left and they were having problems in the kitchen as a result. We were spontaneously offered free desserts which was generous especially since we did not complain. We will definitely be trying this place again and would recommend it. They deserve to recruit another brilliant chef soon.

We arranged a buffet for family the night before our wedding at the Cherry Tree. The staff were incredibly accommodating with different people arriving at different times. Everyone commented on how great the atmosphere was and how lovely the food was - thanks Cherry Tree! We'll be back I am sure.

We read all the amazing reviews and decided to go here for Sunday roast today. The place looked lovely. Unfortunately, it didn't however live up to expectations... We placed our order and it hadn't arrived 45 minutes later so we enquired as to where it was. It turned out the order hadn't even reached the kitchen. No apologies.. 15 minutes later, still no meal. We asked again and they hurried it along, promising bread while we wait. No bread, but the meal arrived. Sadly it was not very warm and lacked any gravy. Bit of a shame, because it was generally very tasty. Even took us 3 requests to get a jug of tap water! A nice apology from someone more senior, which was appreciated, but that was it..

We had a meal here the night before our wedding with 31 friends and family from the UK and Australia. Michael the chef organised a special set menu for our party as it was such a large group. The food was delicious, I had the chicken thighs to start and the pork belly as a main. Very tasty! The staff and service was great and Michael didn't mind when I emailed two days before to let him know we had 31 instead of 20!I thoroughly recommend this place to anyone and make a trip out to Ticehurst to enjoy this place!I would like to say thanks to the staff for such a great job dealing with us rowdy Aussies!

Why wasn't I told about this place sooner! A great atmosphere, with a real buzz. The staff were young, friendly and polite. The food was outstanding, the portion size did seem a bit small at first but by the end of the meal I pleasantly filled. The cost of the meal was reasonable, it won't break the bank! All in all this a must.

We had the set menu for £20 and I had the duck liver pate to start and the pork belly for a main and it was truly delicious! This was the best pork belly that I have ever eaten- it was absolutely wonderful. Great value, great staff and the manager was so lovely! He recommended all of these different gins for us to try and we did end up spending a lot on gin but it was so good and we had a lovely time. Thank you!

I was really looking forward to eating here after such good reviews on TA and also a long conversation with the owner when I made the booking to take friends along for a good night out.I was hoping to find a local venue that we could visit every couple of weeks. It was moderately busy when we turned up on the sunny Saturday evening in question, in June. Luckily it wasn't full because despite the booking conversation there was apparently no record of our reservation for four. After a bit of confusion a table was found but it was undressed and in a corner where it didn't feel like it had any connection to the venue or any ambiance at all really, which was a shame. It seemed we could have just walked in off the street on spec, or we could just as easily been sat at home in our kitchen Perhaps this coloured my opinion of our visit.I would say that the Cherry Tree is currently firmly in the local pub rather than the gastro pub category. My husband's brisket burger was extremely dry and he struggled to eat it. It's not a dish I'd replicate at all, there were no accompaniments that eased its progress and the food generally was not any more special than we cook at home, so despite our desire to find a really good local restaurant to return to regularly, I don't think we'll be back any time soon and I'm disappointed to think that. We didn't complain however, because on a night out with friends when there's nothing absolutely wrong that the restaurant can correct, to complain spoils your evening more than just biting your lip - so I'm not criticizing management on that, just commenting on how it was.In fairness, looking around other patrons seemed satisfied. I think perhaps I'd rather built up the restaurant in my mind and it failed to deliver to my own personal expectations. It's been refurbished nicely (didn't check out the loos though) and has a good outside garden space, but I really do feel they need to up their game a notch or two so that they deliver on menu/cost expectations and the impression given by the (lovely) website. The pricing is a bit odd actually, with a cheese plate equating to central London restaurant prices - maybe the management could look at the pricing more carefully, we felt we'd paid a restaurant price but eaten in a pub that you'd pop in on the off chance. In conclusion, nice enough, trying hard, definitely a potential gem for the area, but just not quite on the money for me hence, the review title and no further visit. I wouldn't normally be so negative, there is no malice intended, and hopefully my criticism is deemed constructive as I would like to see this venue do well.

We have now eaten at the Cherry Tree pub 3 times and loved it every visit. Coming regulary from London to see family, it is a delightful addition to our trip. The pub is beautifully decorated and the outside space, especially in this recent good weather, is great. It is clean, well managed and maintianed. It is a family run pub with two sons in charge of the kitchen. The food is cooked to an amazingly high standard for a pub, much more like a Michelin star restaurant, with lots of variety and great puddings, but it also does basics such as great chips and home made tomato sauce which is perfect for our 12 year old son! Open for lunch and dinner I would recommend to anyone for a countryside treat.

We had an excellent meal on a Tuesday evening, which was presumably not an ultra-busy night, although the restaurant was nearly full. If service was not fast, as mentioned by others, the food was worth waiting for. I would suggest that the service was not at all at fault, but that well prepared meals, cooked from scratch, simply take longer. That said, we were in no rush and the courses arrived with a comfortable pause in between. Scallops were excellent as were the vegetables that accompanied all the courses. For us the servings were generous enough but you leave nothing behind, ending each course with the feeling that you could eat just another mouthful, for the taste. Coffee, a bit weak to my taste, can be improved. The area has many competent run-of-the-mill restaurants. The Cherry Tree Inn offers that something extra in refined taste.

We had an amazing meal at this small pub/restaurant. The food was delicious, good service. Only downside was that it was a bit quiet so not much atmosphere for a Friday night. It did get busier towards the end of the meal. Overall it was 9/10 and will be returning soon!

We visited The Cherry Tree on Father's Day for lunch. We had a bit of a wait but, the staff apologised sincerely, the food was well worth waiting for as it was absolutely delicious. It's not trying to be a super duper overpriced Gastropub like another pub in Ticehurst, it's just good quality , local food that is very well cooked. Congratulations on turning this pub around, it's just what Ticehurst needs!

We booked The Gallivant back in July for our wedding anniversary but had to move the date to October due to personal circumstances. All the way through staff were very accommodating and were only too helpful in helping change the date and ensure we were rebooked for the room, dinner and morning yoga. Communication at all times was fantastic!! So we at last stayed at The Gallivant and wow what an experience!! On arrival the staff were so welcoming, booking us in and showing us round the place. The shared spaces, such as the bar the reading room and restaurant are completed to a really high standard and the bedroom was really comfortable with a fantastic shower!! Pre dinner we enjoyed a few glasses of lovely English wines and then had an excellent two course meal which was cooked to perfection! We slept really well in a really cosy comfortable bed and woke to a relaxing yoga class with Katie followed by one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. Real shame we only had the one night… I could have easily stayed all weekend. Thanks to all the Gallivant staff for making our stay so memorable!! What a wonderful experience!!

Went especially for my sons birthday. Ordered a roast that we were all looks forward to and it was awful:( The chicken looked liked it was microwaved, so rubbery I put it in my bag to give to my dig. Even then I couldnt cut it without scissors in the end ! Everything looked limp and just nit nice . Didn't eat mine and left hungry . Just sad for my son as he was looking forward to it. I explained to the bar manager the situation as he insisted I told him what was wrong with the food , in front of other customers. He apologised and understood the issue . Won't ever go back

A proper cosy old fashioned local pub. It's nice to have three veggie main meals on the menu without resorting to mac cheese or curry which are the standbys elsewhere.
